Walgreens Weekly Ad 8/02

on 8.1.2009 at 5:25pm

This post may contain affiliate links. Read our disclosure here.

This is one of the best weeks we have had at Walgreens in a long time. I’m loving the Ragu & Skippy deal and the Tylenol Cold! It might not be all free like CVS but they are great prices. I’ve tried to make a few deal ideas for you for the big deals.

I will work on a plan to roll them together, but I need to get Rite Aid finished first so tune back in for the big plan. Thanks to Beth for help with the coupon matches.

To see the full ad scan go here. Don’t miss the month long deals too.

If you are new to Walgreens please read the getting started guide and the further tips and tricks post.

In the Raise your hand for savings booklet, found at Publix (Back to School) there are two coupons. 55 cents off 1 Skippy Peanut Butter and 55 cents off 1 Ragu Pasta Sauce. This could make the deal even sweeter.

    • Shannon

Skippy and Ragu qs in Unilever Raise Your Hand too. :)

    • Denise

Does any one know if Walgreens will honor a CVS $4 off $20 coupon? I live near one that’s brand new and right across the street from CVS.

    • JennyM

    • Amanda

If you’re buying Kraft Deluxe Mac, I would get it from Publix it’s 1.99 B1G1, use your coupon $1.50/2, makes it .49 cents for 2 boxes.

    • kristie

      use zip code 33907 at coupons.com for a $1.50/ 1 speedstick

    • Leah

For everyone having trouble with the Tylenol link go here and fill out the form and you can print the coupon:

    • Denise

My Publix had a pull off coupon on the Velveeta Mac n Cheese for free Kraft BBQ sauce when you buy 2 Velveetas or Kraft Deluxe Mac. BBQ sauce was also B1G1. All qualified for the Kraft, Publix Rebate.

    • I can’t find the Breyer’s coupon. Is there something I’m missing??

    • Vanessa

Wouldn’t it better to do Fuel for School at Walgreens using the coupons since Walgreens is giving in RR $5 if you spend $10, then plus the Fuel?? In your web is posted for Publix but not here…

      **Jenny here**
Remember fuel for school is 10 items in the same transaction not $10.

    • Michele

What is the $1.00 pop tart Q you are talking about which is only good Sunday?

    • Sandy

Where is the $2 coupon in coupons.cam for Irish Spring Bodywash? I looked everywhere

    • Angela

Sandy, I used zip 45435, but I was only able to print 2. How do you get the 5 to use for the deal?

    • raye

I’m new to Walgeens. I want to do the Crest/Oral B deal and I have a 10$ RR. How do I do it?

    • Check here (http://thecouponhigh.blogspot.com/2009/07/free-or-cheap-at-walgreen-starting-82.html) for a couple more coupons to go with the deals. Sandy, you’ll find where to get the Irish Spring Coupon there too.

    • Jennifer

Just got back from Walgreens and the Ragu is ringing up at $1.50 instead of $2.00. I asked the manager about the mistake and showed her the ad and she allowed the lower price with no issue.

      So, I bought 8 Ragu @ 1.50 each

      $12.00 Ragu
      -$4.00 (4 of the -$1/2 Ragu Qs)
$8.00 OOP and got back $10.00 RR
      $2.00 profit!

Very thankful and very excited about that!

    • Anne

Can not locate the Irish Spring Bodywash $2 coupon? Can you help? Thanks!

      2 POPTARTS

YOU WILL GET $ 7 RR

    • I am new to what my husband refers to as the coupon cult. He loves it, we have 4 kids. I am having problems finding some of the coupons to match the deals. If Jenny has them list as RP, some of them did not come in my paper(s). Is that a regional thing? Thanks for any help.

    • hilary

so, i’m not able to roll my RR at walgreens (if i am “rolling” right). i try to pay with a RR on a deal that offers RR. and it will not print another RR on that deal. and, i’m using it on totally different deals. am i the only one??? wondering if mgmt is doing something wrong that i need to bring to their attention???

    • I think it is, there is two papers in dallas tx that come free on saturdays, both of them have coupons RP AND SS, BUT PG only comes on one.

    • ALso, coupons vary by area, like the suave deodorant, ours is 75 cents off 2 instead of one.

    • Jenny P

Hilary–My local walgreens told me that was a new policy with RR. In the past you could use a rr to pay and the new rr would still print (if they were different deals) but no more. They are phasing out the rr program entirely by the end of summer, to be replaced with a new customer loyalty program. I don’t think the mgr can fix it for you, if the rr doesn’t print in the store, you might try customer service?

    • $5.02 spent for toothbrushes, shampoo, 6 jars of Ragu and 2 jars of skippy. check out my blog at http://www.keepingourcash.com

    • Dana

I am so frustrated! I had my plan all worked out and had the nicest cashier at Walgreen’s. In my first transaction I got 3 RR deals. In my second transaction I got 3 of the same deals BUT I got different products…i.e. in the first transaction I bought 8 Suave deodorants to get the RR and in the second I bought Skippy and Ragu. I used the RR’s from the first transaction to pay for the second and the RR’s didn’t print for the second. I thought this only happened when you tried to buy the SAME products. Am I wrong? If so, I need to take this stuff back tonight so I can get my coupons back….ARGGGGHHHH! I thought for sure I have rolled like this before.

    • Bobbie

Hillary and Dana, my Wags printed out rr for items that I used other rr’s for today. Maybe the Birmingham store hasen’t gotten arnd to changing it yet. It doesn’t seem right to not let you use the rr on any item you want except for the same item you received the rr from. The rules change every week it seems and it’s really confusing. I do hope Wags changes to something better than what they have now.

    • Jason

At the walgreens that i went to today Mangosteen & Yogurt Vitamin Shampoo was on clearance for 3.49 and the RR that printed was for $4.

    • just me

For dallas, tx (post #24): I did the same kind of deal with the Kellogg’s products. My Wags was out of a lot, so we ended up with a lot of poptarts, but all the other things we got will be eaten quickly!! I loved walking out of there knowing I’d gotten so much stuff for FREE!

    • Michael Odell

      Clearing up the RR!!!

If you look at the RR it will have the manufacture listed. That needs to be different each time or you will not get a rollover print.

E.G. Dana bought “Unilever” Suave and then tried to buy “Unlilever” Skippy. NO CAN DO!!! You would need to buy G.U.M brushes and Vitamin Shampoo with the Suave (Uniliever) RRs and then use those Manufactures RRs to buy the Skippy (Unilever) and then switch again.

      Use Different Manufacture’s RRs!

    • Dana

It wound up working to my benefit. After seeing that I probably couldn’t argue my way to getting the RR I decided to return the items from the second transaction that I should have gotten RR for. The manager was again, not very nice. I told him that I would like my coupons back as well and he informed me that he would have to go through all the paperwork in the back to find them. I said, “Thank you! I sure do appreciate that!” Before heading to the back he gave me a full refund for my items. When he came back with the Q’s I said, “So, I owe you $6.20 for these coupons”. He said (in a “I’ll do anything to get you out of here” voice) “You don’t owe me a thing. Those belong to you.” So, I got a refund for full sticker price AND got my coupons back to use again. Theoretically I could go back tomorrow and re-purchase all the same items, use my coupons, and now get the RR. Next time though, I will purchase all my RR items first and then use the RR on other items.

    • Meg

      Hey Jenny,
Just wondering if you’re still putting up the grand plan? thanks bunches!

    • Blakely

I bought 6 items but only got $2 RR with the following deal: $10 RR wyb 8, $6 RR wyb 6, $2RR wyb 4 of the following:
      I got
      (1) Dove Cream Oil Body Lotion, (2) Vaseline Intensive Care Lotion (1) Pond’s Skin Care wipes (1) QTips and (1) $1 Skippy Peanut Butter – on receipt all listed together.

Any ideas how to get my other $4 RR? Thanks in advance!

    • hilary

thanks ya’ll. i had a long experience in walgreens today and, by the end of the trip, the manager (and my toddler) weren’t very happy. she said that i am the only couponer that they have! jenny p, you are right — the new policy is that you can’t use a RR and get a RR on that order. stinks. i’m looking froward to hearing the new program, and hoping it’s more like rite aid’s, where you get CASH back!

    • Tersia

Walgreens will take expired coupons up to two weeks old. Does anyone else know who takes expired coupons?? I used an expired one at Bilo, they took it but it would not dbl.

    • Tersia

I have had an experience with Walgreens where you cannot use the RR and get a RR for the same product. You have to use a different RR from another product to get the RR for that product. Now that is unless they changed the rules in the past 5 days.

    • Tersia

When you do not get all you RR that you are due take it up with the manager right away. They have given me the cash out of the cash register before because it did not print my RR.

    • i had no problem using my rr’s at all. Hopefully will be the same today when I walk in there.

    • Juju

Just thought about this money maker:

You can buy 10 Keebler or Cheez-It Crackers, the $1 ones, and get $5 in RR also get the $10 Kellogg’s Fuel for School Rebate.

    • FYI – to qualify for the fuel for school rebate you have to buy the bigger size or cheez-it or keebler, the $1 ones don’t qualify.

    • Juju

      Oh, thanks for the information.
Good thing I checked back here. I was about to go get the $1 cookies from Wags.

    • Val

I am new to Walgreens, but so far I VERY MUCH prefer CVS. Today at Walgreens I had a $2 and $5 RR before shopping. My plan was to get 2 Sudafeds at $5 each and use 2 Manufactur Coupons at $2.00 each. Also I wanted to get the Vitamin shampoo. To pay for it all I was going to use the $7 in RR I had and then pay the overage oop. So I had 3 products and 2 Manufactur Coupons and was going to use the 2 RR, but I was told that the RR work as coupons and the amount of coupons cannot exceed the amount of products. I didn’t understand it. (I guess I am used to CVS where the ECB’s work like cash.) Anyway I left frustrated. Then realized that if I had bought a piece of candy then I would have enough items to make it work. So I went back and tried it again. It worked and I now have $9 RR. Don’t know how much longer I will be shopping there. The deals don’t seem nearly as good as CVS and it gets confusing when you want to use Manufactur coupons. It is almost as if they don’t want you to use regular coupons. So frustrating.

    • janice

How do you get multiple coupons on the printables? I am only able to print to most of the time. I noticed that Jenny you were about to get 4- $1 off for the soft soap and 5- $2 off for the Spring Body wash.

      • Jenny

The only way to get more than 2 is to have access to more than one computer. In our house we have 3 if my husband brings home is work laptop so total I can get 6 if I really wanted them and we had ink…

    • amy

      Thanks for the tips.
Just went to Walgreens in Tennessee.
Purchased 8 jars of ragu ($2 each). Used 4 coupons ($1off/2). Received register reward of $10. Total cost $2×8=$16-$4coupons=$12-$10 rr= $2 (divide by 8 jars= $.25 per jar.

Also, purchased 8 soft soap on sale this week 2/$4.00. Used 6 coupons $1 off each. Received register reward of $5.00 total cost $2.00 each x 8=$16.00 – $6.00 coupons = $10.00-$5.00 register reward = $5.00/8= $.62 each.

Also purchased 2 tylenol cold relief 24 ct on sale $4.99. Used coupons of $2.00 off each. Received register reward of $5.00. Total cost $4.99*2=$9.98 – $4.00 coupons = $5.98-$5.00 rr = $.98/2=$.49 cents each box.

      Thanks for all the tips.

    • Samantha

I bought a ton of cereal, pop tarts, rice krispie treats, keebler, etc. Got home and took a close look. Not such a great deal in Southern Virginia.

Eeewwww this stuff is OLD — within mere weeks of expiration dates!

They must have bought this second hand, dusted off the boxes and put it on the shelves.

My bad for not checking before I purchased! I’m returning ALL of it to the store. Does anyone know if they will give me back my coupons?

Thanks Jenny, that helps alot. Sometimes I will have my husband print some at work, but it is not my favorite thing to ask him to do in the middle of his day. Maybe we need to get multiple computers! Do you know any good deals??? Ha! Ha!

I am not pleased with my wags either. I went to two different locations and every time it goes bad. I had $1/2 bic last week and tried to buy the 49cent highlighters with many other items and they said the coupon exceeded the cost, So they would not take it. It’s like that little devil beeper thing on the cash register beeps every time. Then when the RR doesn’t print the manager told me to mail out for it. For a $1 RR. I said the stamp is half the price sir. He did not care. There trying to compete with CVS and not succeeding in my opinion. Hope there upcoming new system is more fun :)

    • to JANICE, with the fuel to school, you will get a $70 off coupon off the mini dell. I check price on them and I believe they are like $269-$70 coupon, should it make a good deal.

    • SAMANTHA- I’m with you on the walgreens thing!, they did have some already expired! And some that were about to. I had to go back and look for more once I got to register and noticed it. Luckily there was more but I did ended up with one box of nutrigrain bars that expire next week. Luckily my kids love them, so half of them are already gone.

Ok, so far I’m not liking Walgreens. I’m a nurse and already don’t like dealing with their pharmacy to call in rx, but went today to take advantage of some freebies and RR’s and it was not good. I had no RR going in. Bought a bottle of the Vitamin conditioner, got my RR for that and was going to roll into the Tylenol buys. Got 2 boxes of the Tylenol sinus, used my 2 $2 off coups. The subtotal was more than the RR from the previous transaction and the computer wouldn’t let me use it. They said since I only bought 2 items and had already used 2 coups, I couldn’t use another. I told them to keep the Tylenol. The bad thing now is that I have $4 RR and don’t really want to go back.

Went into a WAGS for 4 Ragus with 2 $1/2 coups and $5 RR. After using my 2 coups it would not take my RR. I remembered your tip about using the RR first. I asked the cashier to take the RR off first. She did and then it took both coups. I got 4 jars of Ragu for .25 ea. Woo Hoo!!! Thanks for the tips.

Heather- I had the exact same problem at Walgreens this week and it put me in a terrible mood – I used a bunch of manufacture Qs and tried to get my RR for the purchase- I was supposed to get $ 10 in RR for the first transaction and it only printed 6…then once the total got below $7 it wouldn’t print any RR at all. The manager gave me a story about how the manufactures make sure they still make money and the computer that prints the RR won’t print them if the total is too low. I told her to then please adjust it herself and give me the RR b/c that’s how her store advertised it- and she refused. So I ended up spending way more than I had planned…and very mad I think I’m just going to be a CVS girl b/c I can’t figure out this Walgreens thing to save my life- any help would be great –

I managed to get the $5 RR on the Kellog’s products (using lots of Qs!), but the $2 RR for the 2 boxes of Kellog’s cereal didn’t print. The manager told me that was because I used a Q on the cereal. I told him I had used Qs on the other deal, and that $5 RR printed just fine. I asked if this is in writing somewhere, so I don’t waste my time, his time and my Qs on such a thing. He said even he doesn’t know when “they” (not sure who “they” is exactly) determine that using a coupon voids the RR deal. Frustrating! This store also won’t take internet coupons. (Rockbridge Rd. in Stone Mountain/Lilburn GA) I find that amusing since Walgreens actually links to internet coupons on their very own website. Anyone know a Walgreen’s around here that does take internet Qs? I think this experience makes me like my CVS even better. All the locations around me are SO nice!

Just received a $5 off $25 in my email.
When I clicked the link, it goes to the Wags website.
So you can also get it by going to their homepage :)

BTW, it is only for today and tomorrow. 8/5 and 8/6

Thanks Jenny I had a wonderful experience at Walgreens (Moncks Corner)today. I got a total of $20.00 in rewards and used each on my next purchase with NO problem!!!!! I love you Jenny and all that you do.

I am new to Walgreen’s also, and I did not realize it was so tricky to use RR in Walgreen’s. I do know that my local Publix accepts the Walgreens RR’s with no questions asked. So here is what I plan to do after I get the paper on Sun. morning, compare the CVS and Walgreen adds and see which is a better deal for me, ECB’s or Walgreens RR’s, which I will only be using at publix now.

I just wanted to add to the Keebler deal. They are $2 each and if you buy 5 that makes it the required $10 to get $5 RR back and you can use (5)$1/2 and they would end up being free! Just thought I would mention it since I did the math. Am I wrong because no one has posted anything on this deal?!

When using your RR at Publix, please make sure your cashier knows to SCAN THEM instead of entering as a competitor coupon. RR are actually manufacturer coupons that Publix can get reimbursed for, as long as they are scanned into the system. More often than not, cashiers see “Redeemable at Walgreens” and enter them as competitor coupons. They lose money this way. If they will scan the RR in, they can get reimbursed, same as with other manufacturer coupons. It is a privilege for us to be able to use RR at Publix. Let’s do our part to ensure that privilege remains!

The Ester-C is a fantastic deal if you have the $5 coupon from SS 6/28. A 90-count bottle is $10.99. With the $5 in-ad coupon and the $5 mfr coupon, it’s only $.99! Or do what I did and take both coupons to Publix, use the Walgreens $5/$25 and get a great deal!

    • I went to two different Walgreens in north Alabama today. I had the same issue that many others are having. If I used a RR in a transaction, the RR for that transaction would not print. The manager at the first store claimed that this was always the policy. I told him that it was not how it had worked last week. The manager at the second store was perplexed on why the RR did not print. In both cases, the manager printed me a RR from the cash register and apologized for the inconvenience.

Is this the new system? If it is, then I don’t see how they are going to compete with CVS.

I did get some good deals, though. I used 3 of the $5/$25 coupons.

Went to Wags today and got:
      6 Ragu Sauce
      1 Sikpy Peanut Butter
      1 Hellman’s Mayo
      1 2pk Gum Toothbrushes
      1 Vitiam Shampoo
      2 Jello
After the 1.36 Wags coupon on jello and 5.00 off on 25.00 I had 4.25 in mag coupons. Then used 12.00rr’s. Owed 4.22 plus 1.23 tax for a total of 5.45. Got back 17.50 in rr’s.
I felt I did really good and was really surprised they had all the items I was looking for.
Thanks for all your help Jenny.

    • I am already working on Sundays sale. I have total of 3 RR equal $17 dollars. Iam planning on purchasing 13 items with 8 manufacture coupons should they take them and all three of my RR. I read somewhere that # of RR and manuf coupons had to be greater than the number of items purchased. I will also recieve 6 more RR for other products than the RR that I will be paying with. Please someone let me know if this right or wrong. Walgreens can be confusing

    • Michelle

I went to Wags in Chattanooga this week and bought 7 skippy peanut butters and 1 ragu, had coupons for all but no register rewards printed. The manager tried again ringing up 8 peanut butters and still didn’t work, but then he went to a different terminal and rang up 8 peanut butters and RR printed, then he voided the transaction. So sometimes it may be a specific cash register won’t print.

Well…I KNOW I didn’t do so well. But, here is what I got. The Kellogg’s, $5 RR didn’t print. I got $2 instead. I was so confused, that I didn’t even worry about it. You guys do such a GREAT job with your coupons…I’m inspired. Jenny…Thank you! I’m so addicted! Anyway, I spent right at $50…I got, 2 tape dispensers, 2 boxes of mini-wheats, 2 boxes of raisin bran, 3 ponds wipes, Dove hairspray, conditioner and shampoo, Q-tips, 2 boxes of Club crackers, a box of cheez-its…I think that is all. I saved $7.75 in coupons and got back $12 total in RR. So, my next trip will be even better! :) So, without splitting everything out, I spent on average, $3 per item….Definitely not great! But, now, I’m armed with RR!!!!
