If you are scurrying to find fuzzy little things by Christmas, you have a new chance.  Walmart is going to have a 3 day sale on Zhu Zhu pets starting at 7 am December 21st.  Each store will released 20-60 little hamsters each morning for 3 days.

They will be on sale for $8 each and there is a limit of one per customer.  I would recommend getting there much earlier than 7 am if you want this. (Or just stay in bed and find something else…)

(thanks Phyllis and i4u!)

Did they say what they were going to charge for them or if you have to stand in line and get a ticket??? Anyone know?

      • DJ

they told me that they would hand out tickets at 12 midnight and they would not hand out the zuzu’s till 7a.m. but you can’t leave the line. Good luck to you

      • Lisette

If Walmart really gets them in they are $7.99 a piece.

      • Naomi

Kim, if you click on the i4u link that Jenny put in her thanks, there is a snapshot of the details. From what I can tell, they will be $8 (reg. price), limit of 1, and you have to get a ticket.

I am so grateful that my children know nothing of what kinds of toys are out there and what is popular. How we have escaped this thus far is a miracle.

      • Laura

        i agree with u :)

      • LarissaW

Me too. I didn’t even know what they were until my mom mentioned them the other day. I’m having a Cabbage Patch Kid flashback!!

      • Esmelda

Same here. First time I heard about these. One of the distinct advantages of homeschooling!

        • Jamie

haha….. oh the good memories of being home schooled!…. I remember when I was small, not knowing what all of the new “fads” and “in-toys” and “the worldly cartoons” were….. I can remember my brother got a brand new set of “Ninja Turtles” as a gift from an aunt… My brother had no idea what they were…. and my mom and dad explained that they were “evil” and so in the trash the new set of Ninja Turtles went :) …. I now thank my mom and dad for keeping me so innocent during my childhood.. and now as a college student, I wish they could keep me from knowing some things that I now know!

        • Sarah

My kids are homeschooled too, and have no idea what these things are. Thank goodness. If Zhu Zhus turn out to be a great toy for people, I will just wait and buy some for the kids’ birthdays next year. :)

    • Nicole

Also, I saw on Facebook that Toys R Us will start getting daily shipments of them starting tomorrow (12/16).

Honestly, my daughter got a couple for her birthday and she has hardly played with them since.

    • Jennifer

I don’t see how these are rare. Every time I went into Toys R Us around 2-4 PM they always had them (about 3 times), even though they said they only had 100 for the 1st customers, they had at least 40 left when I was there. Just don’t pay $30 for them, if your kid wants it that bad tell them Santa gives out New Years gifts too if you are extra special and get it after xmas (it worked on me growing up!)

    • Tammie

I actually picked one up this morning at Toys R Us for an old co-worker in MI and now I am shipping it out 2morrow. I didn’t realize how popular this item is this season. Good thing my little one has no interest in one.

    • Neka

I got 2 at CVS about a week ago. It sucks that Walmart is giving a limit of 1, that isn’t worth waiting for. Now if someone can tell me where to find the accessories so that my daughter will actually play with this $9 rat, LOL!

      • DJ

Target was suppose to get in zuzu pets , however they didnt’ but they did get a shipment of accessories in. I hope you can find them.

    • Dawn

Unfortunately my kids are aware of these things and it was my 6 year olds wish from Santa. I wasn’t about to put in tons of effor to find these little rodents (I’ve looked when I could, but didn’t go out on special missions or anything). Well, yesterday I happend to be at Target when they opened (just good timing for me before my preschooler’s school opened) and low and behold they were just setting them out. And they were only 7.99! It was really weird, though. Only 1 pet per “guest,” so I asked if my 4 year old was considered a separate guest and they said yes, but the employee had to hand my 4 yo the second zhu-zhu pet (I couldn’t touch it) and she had to hand the money over! LOL Talk about overkill! I hated jumping on the band-wagon of this year’s “hot item,” but I guess we sometimes give in for our kids’ sake!

    • Charlotte

I’d like to have one for myself. How sad is that (I’m in my 40s). LOL

But I’ll wait till after christmas. Damned if I’m gonna fight for something frivolous like that.

Nearly took someone out in the parking lot several years ago on Black Friday. I decided no sale is that important.

    • melissa

I’m not sure if I want to purchase this or not after what Good Morning America said about them. I googled Zhu Zhu pets recall and there is alot of scary info about these cute little rodents. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

      • Jamie

I heard something in the news last week about there being “high levels of such and such” in the “rats”.. and “high levels of that”… but of course the company is stating that by their standards, the levels (of whatever it is) is not near the limit… But personally, I would rather be safe than sorry… so I prefer not to touch the little rats! :)

    • Phillis

I purchased these today at Target, they are adorable. They have been running around my house making all kinds of noises and entertaining my maltese two year old. She is just beside herself. Also picked up some for my neice and nephew can’t wait until christmas eve to see all of them running around the house. So so cute. You gotta get one, well worth the 8 bucks.

I get to pass on this one too. I never new they existed. Have fun hunting.

    • Leah

I have worked hard to find the four little guys I found, as well as the entire set of accessories. So hoping my daughter will be pleased as this is what she asked Santa for this year !!! However, I didn’t pay a penny over retail, but hated not to be able to get them on sale :(

    • We have a real hamster.. Her name is Lilly. If my daughter wants to have a hamster run all over the house, we’ll put Lilly in her ball and let her go to town. She’s already paid for, I don’t have to stand in line to be entertained by her, and the best part is- She will be played with for longer than an hour! Go Lilly!!!

    • Jenna

I feel sorry for those of you who did not get them any sooner. Me I got mine in oct when a friend went to Texas on a business trip. Thanks Kristen :)

    • AC

I got a couple over the past 2 weeks even though my kids never said anything but I didn’t ask because I didn’t want them to start asking if I didn’t have some. So I finally asked my oldest and she said they were silly and they don’t do anything and she didn’t want one. So on that note I will be returning the couple I have because they were $10 at TRU, so I will get something else.

    • Melinda

Ladies, Make really good friends with your CVS employees and ask them to call you when they get a shipment. My son works for CVS and his store limited their customers to two, but they also called their frequent customers first to give them the first chance to buy. I don’t think they necessarily know when they might get a shipment, so it’s a good idea to know your CVS employees well.

    • Veda

Just left Target in Snellville, Georgia, they have a ton of Zhu-Zhu pets. You can buy as many as you want. I bought 4 for 7.99 a piece, I was shocked to see them, since everyone was talking about how hard they are to find! My daughters want real hamsters for Christmas, This is as close as it gets! They didn’t have any accessories does anyone know where I can find some!

    • dana

Just got home from Toys r us in Spartanburg. There were about 150 different zhu-zhu pet items. In the front by the service desk. Ranging in price from 9.99 to 39.99…

    • It’s funny how the hype works. I just saw these elusive little rodents at CVS. I almost bought one just to say that I have a Zhu Zhu pet (and the pink and white one was kind of cute). I’m still trying to talk myself out of getting one for the dog :)

Just in case anyone in the Orlando, FL area is still looking for one, they are at the CVS at the corner of Lee Road and 17-92 (Kmart plaza) spread across the check out counters. Nobody seems to know that they’re available there. I didn’t look too much but about 12:30 today they still had at least 9 of them in three colors: chocolate brown, mustardy-tan and pink & white.
