week 2

Most people have goals to save money and lose weight. One of the common myths is that products with coupons are all unhealthy. Each week, this list will provide you with some tasty, good-for-you frugal meal and snack ideas based on sales at the grocery store. The prices listed are the deal after coupons – to see how to get that price, click the store name at the top of the site.

I have a ton of great menu plans to look at. To see the current week’s go here.

    • Robinknight7602

This is great! I LOVE this!!! But do you have to join WW online ot get the recipes?

      • Coupongirljill

No you can search their recipes without being a member.

    • Momsdumplin

Is this the old points or the new points plus points that are listed?

      • Central Florida

      • Momsdumplin

Never mind. I see it's the new poitns now. Oops..

    • Cyberspacechris

awsome idea to make menu plans!!!!!

    • ElizabethSWynn

Does Kroger accept the “Target Web Coupons” printed on Target.com?

      • Tnjcent

No, Kroger does not accept Target or any other store coupons. They will take a Kroger store coupon stacked on top of a Manufacturers coupon. I think you can also use the coupons stated above on top of a e-coupon which you can get added to your Kroger key tag. You have to sign up for e-coupons, though. Sites like cellfire, Kroger.com among a few others will help you.

    • Gowest27

This will be real helpful since I just joined ww and about 1 month in to couponing. Hopefully next time some of the items will be from grocery stores that are in my area.

    • lalapinski

BLESS YOU for doing this! I joined WW last week and I am determined to continue to use coupons AND lose weight.
      This is AWESOME!!!!!!!

    • Currentlysunny

      Are these points or pointsplus??

      • crazycouponlady

Last week Jenny said they are points plus

    • Kb

Yeah! Thanks!!! yes, are these point plus or the old system? I re joined and have lost 4 pounds since sunday….I love the new system…so easy to stay on track!!!!!

    • Leighann Howell

This is really awesome :-) I just wish that the stores mentioned for the sales items were actually stores that are in my area. What I wouldn't give for a Kroger or a Publix!

      • It's really meant to be a guide to show you that healthy items do go on sale. You might not have these exact things on sale this week, but at some point you will. When you find them, be sure to stock up and use these ideas for tasty budget friendly dinners that you can feel good about!

    • KelliS

Has anyone else tried e-mealz? I was using it before I learned about SouthernSavers and I saved some money. Now, I use the two sites together and it's great!

    • Tchr450

FYI–the popcorn is not 3 pts, not 1 like it was. It is an error in the food companion book and has since been corrected, but the new printed materials won't be out until March. Online you can download the 8 pages (yes 8!!) of corrections.

      • Sheri

Ok, I meant the popcorn is NOW 3 points

    • Mackay1st

Well I just wanted to say… I found what I am going to do with all that Quaker Oatmeal from last week : )

      1/2 c. butter
1 c. firmly packed light brown sugar
      1 egg
      1 tsp. vanilla extract
      1 c. sifted all-purpose flour
      1/2 tsp. baking soda
      1/4 tsp. salt
1 c. uncooked quick cooking rolled oats
      1/2 c. chopped walnuts
      1/2 c. raisins

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Cream the butter and sugar with an electric mixer at medium speed until light and fluffy. Beat in egg, vanilla, flour, baking soda and salt. Stir in the oats, walnuts and raisins until well mixed. The mixture will be very stiff.
Turn the mixture into a greased 9 x 9 x 2 inch baking pan and spread evenly. Bake, uncovered, for 12 minutes. Cool in pan, then cut into 24 bars.

For this recipe from cooks.com in desparate need of tryingto figure out how to use my stockpile wisely : )

Thanks so much!! I have started back on WW, and i am always looking for meal ideas and this proves that weight loss can happen on any budget)

    • Bronxbabe2

are these the new points plus values?

    • mel

      You are so awesome! Thanks!

    • WynetteC

The spice pork chops with pineapple salsa looks good. Hopefully I will find all the ingredients I need to make it work at Kroger tomorrow! Thanks for this post Jenny, huge help to me! I struggle with coming up with healthy meal choices and this makes it a lot easier to browse through your selections. :)

    • Gazley1

Jenny…you rock!!! I am going to join WW in a couple of weeks…just had a baby, but WOW thank you for doing this!!!

    • Tabitha

This is awesome. Thank you so much for doing this. I really may lose weight and stay on budget!!

    • guest

Is this from Dave Ramsey's EZ Meals?

    • Thanks so much for adding these – they make it easy to eat well and inexpensively. I made the Turkey Chili Verde for my family tonight and they LOVE it. Absolutely delicious! I did have some trouble finding tomatillos so I used a salsa verde I found in the Mexican foods department that just had tomatillos, onion, peppers, and cilantro listed as ingredients.

    • Bambie511

Thank You so much for doing this!!! I was on WW for 2 months and was doing really well. When my husband lost his job I had to cancel the online WW as part of our cutbacks. The ONLY thing I missed was the recipes. Are you going to keep doing this each week?
      Again THANKS SO MUCH

    • Raenjustin

I have also noticed that coupon-cutting foods are very unhealthy. I am an organic consumer. Most of the foods I prefer do not have coupons. On the other hand, my son (21-years-old) and children in my in-home child care facility love the convenience and taste of coupon-saving foods.

    • Proleary2004

Thanks so much for doing this!!!! It is the little extra I needed to keep going!
