Update: Their website is having issues with coupon codes, I just spoke with customer service after staying on hold for 30 minutes.  This is what an automated message is saying:

Place your order online now, without the coupon code, and then call back or email during the week and they will refund the $25 back to your card.  I would not recommend calling today or Monday the current wait time is over 1 hr!!!

“Questions about your order? Call us at 1-800-3STAPLE (1-800-378-2753) or email us at support@orders.staples.com .”

I placed my order Sunday evening, and arrived home today to find a package waiting at my door containing both the sharpies and the batteries. When I completed the order, I was taken to an on-line survey on my purchase at which time I noted that he coupon code did not work for the Sharpie deal. Received an email today from customer service stating that the refund had been applied to my card. Will be returning next week for more batteries!
  • Bobbie
I did get my email confirmation and then also email stating they were having trouble with the coupon code on the sharpie markers and would give me credit for them.
  • Rebecca
I just called customer service to get my Sharpie deal and they told me that the deal was only a Monday MORNING deal from 6 AM to 10 AM. So if you placed your order after that, then the deal is not valid so of course the coupon code didn't work. I just canceled my whole order.

    Good luck!
  • Marissa
I went to 2 different staples stores today and both of them honored the promotion in store. And both stores had TONS of sharpies left, so I got my pick! Going twice, I got 34 sharpies for like $3!
  • Bobbie
I placed my order yesterday and still no email for verification of order?????
  • amanda
Just called Staples to have them fix my account for the Sharpie deal and the recording says that the Sharpie deal is no longer valid! Guess they had too many problems. Oh well maybe next time.
  • Rachel
I just spoke to a customer service rep at Staples and he said the sharpies are all sold out. So the deal is over.
  • Natalie
My local store honored the deal no problem (I did call first to verify). The manager had a printout and they entered the same coupon code (96140). It was incredibly easy and I was in and out in less than 5 minutes!
  • I don't get how the offer can be "over" since the web page states "Deals end 11/30/09." I put my stuff in my virtual shopping cart before work this morning (about 7 am) but didn't get to finish checking out until I got home, about 1:30. I hope they will still credit the coupon code. Otherwise, I guess I will be returning the Sharpies to my local store.
  • weslie
according to customer service all orders place before 10:30am today will still get the $25 credited to their account but all orders after that time will not.

I politely argued with the girl and let her know that the offer is still showing on the site and she finally agreed to put in the credit but warned me that they may call me back and say they won't honor it. I asked if when they call can I have them just remove the sharpies from my order and send the rest of my stuff, since I don't NEED them and she said yes.
  • Zonya
I just saw your update on the coupon codes, AFTER I placed my order without ordering the Sharpies. Oh well. I still got a new phone to replace our old one with the dying batteries, plus one laundry pen, for $1.93, including tax, by using my $30 staples rewards coupon that we got by scavenging ink cartridges and turning them in for $3 each. You can turn in 10 cartridges a month. If you have access to ink cartridges that others discard, this is a wonderful way to get things you need!
  • Toni
FYI....finally got through to customer service and the offer is officially sold out....

So don't order and hope for reimbursement!!! They said the offer is over!!!

    I'm sad ;( 11:10am Monday.
  • TINA
I just did the staples sharpie markers deal. I got 26 markers for $1.79. Thank you so much.
  • Sue
FYI: While browsing the Staples site, I found Norton Anti-Virus for $9.99. Priced at $79.99, instant coupon for $30 & easy rebate of $40. When I called them to get credit for my Sharpies, I added this to my order.
  • Sue
Completed my order this morning around 9. Got an email about an hour ago that the ones I had ordered were out. I called and had them remove the smaller pack because the coupon no longer applied. At first I was upset that they did not notify me earlier so that I could have chosen something else before they dis-allowed the coupon and I possibly could still do so. However, after thinking about it for a few minutes, I realized that I was thinking about making a fuss because they were not going to give me something for FREE. I still get free shipping because I ordered the Norton anti-virus for 79.99 with their instant coupon for $30 and easy rebate of $40 making it $9.99 and I ordered 2 packs of Duracell, for which I will be reimbursed through Staples Rewards. And then I want to argue because they weren't gonna give me something else for free!? I don't think so! I think that would be taking this couponing thing too far. However, I do believe that their website should have stated: "While supplies last".
  • Jessica
I just spoke with customer service regarding the code for the sharpies, the full amount will be charged and a credit of $26.75 will be credited back to your bank or credit card within 3-10 business days depending on your bank.
  • Kathy
Staples in NC will sometimes take Online & Phone order coupons in-store, just ask. I have used several in-store.
They also offer price match in NC, not sure about other States.
    Worth asking.....
  • Michele
    Everything is out of stock!
  • Natalie
I just bought batteries and sharpies with no problem at 10:30am on Mon. 11/30 EST. Maybe they restocked? Still didn't let me apply the code though.
  • Erica
And now it says the coupon has expired if you try to use it.
  • Kristie
I just used my Staples rewards from this summer to pay for my batteries. I was able to get free shipping by selecting the "pick up in store" option. Also, thanks for the Ebates reminder. Every bit helps!
  • Mandie
Does anyone know if Teacher Rewards is the same as Staples Rewards?
    TIA
  • Vanessa
Staples.com is currently under maintenance. Hopefully they are fixing problem now.
  • if anyone used ebates, staples has 2% cash back
  • Sandra Stark
I am entering 96140 in the coupon code, but it won't take it. Help!
  • Jenny
It won't take any coupon code, you will need to submit it and then file an email with customer support to get credited after placing the order.
  • Claire
Anyone else not finding the easy rebate number for the Batteries? It's not showing on my confirmation email...
  • Sue
I do not think this will show on easy rebates. It is Staples Rewards, which is a different program.
  • Claire
Oh silly me. Of course! I was getting confused with the two different promos (I picked up the markers and the batteries). Thanks!
  • Snellmom
I've been doing Staples rewards for quite a while, and LOVE it. The bonuses will be mailed to you as a Staples check in January. The battery deal is good for 2 packs per customer per week! We got two packs last week and will probably buy two more packs this week. We have lots of toys in our house needing batteries!

While you are in there, take any used ink cartridges you may have laying around for a bonus of $3 each. You can turn in 10 per month. I'm already looking at different things I can purchase come January.
  • Natalie
From now until 12/19 they have a promotion going where you get double rewards on ink cartridge recycling. That means for every ink cartridge you recycle there, you get $6 back in Staples Rewards instead of $3. (Dang, I just recycled 3 last week!) Also, if you buy $50 worth of HP ink, you get 20% back in rewards instead of the usual 10%. I found this on their website.
  • Kathleen
FYI: You have to buy $50 in HP ink AND recycle HP ink cartridges in the same day to qualify for the doubling deal
  • Sue
I just called Staples in Columbia to check on this and they told me these resrictions do not apply to recycling cartridges. You can recycle any 10 cartridges today and receive $60 in Staples Rewards without buying anything. Then you can recycle 10 more before Dec. 19 and get $60 more. I called twice and spoke to two different people and they both told me the same thing. And they do take Kodak!
  • Teresa-QOCD
I think the offer is good til Dec. 19th.
  • Sue
Do you know if they will take any cartridges? I have a Kodak printer and a lot of empty cartridges. Office Max has had this offer for a long time but they do not take Kodak.
  • christa
Yes, They take Kodak. I take Kodak in monthly. They don't look at types of cartridges, they just count them and credit your staples rewards acct.
  • Tina
They have taken every type I have taken in....Any brand printer ink cartridge and any brand copier toner cartridges. I have not had one problem (knock on wood). It's a great program. I purchased a $150 shredder for our school using sale/rebate/staples rewards for $5!!
  • Sue
Is this a check that can only be used at Staples? My closest is $45 miles away. If you have to use it at Staples, how soon after issue does it expire?
  • Elizabeth
Hey Jenny - I am trying to check out and have yet to give them a credit card number because my Sharpies are not coming off the total. I know the batteries should show up for now - but thought my total should be $25.00 not the $50.00. What should I do? I don't want to check out with $50 on my card. Thanks for all you do.
  • Tina
Now that I think about that..........it probably won't work for the coupon code! Dangit!
  • Tina
I would think that you could go back into your Staples Rewards account and enter the receipt just like you would if you went to the store and forgot to scan your card........what do you guys think? That would be much easier than having to call CSR, I would think.
    Tina
  • Teresa-QOCD
    currently a 2 hour telephone wait-wow
  • Risa
Me again! When you say, credit YOUR CARD - do you mean my credit card I used to pay with? Or does Staples have a Rewards Card? This is my first time shopping at Staples, we don't have one locally, but on-line is awesome!
    Risa
  • janice
Jenny- will they put the money back on your card or will I get the money back in staples rewards? That will be a really great deal if they put the money back in my card.. wow!
  • Kristie
Can you use your staples rewards to pay for the batteries?
  • Jenny
You can if you already have some. It lets you enter that online where you would enter the coupon code, you can enter staples reward check #'s
  • Risa
Jenny!!! Please advise- I just placed my wonderful order, checked out - BUT FORGOT TO USE THE CODE!!!!!!!!!!! Should I go in right now, cancel the whole order, and do it again? Or, because of coupon code problems w/ website (I didn't even TRY to use the code!), do you think it doesn't matter, as long as I call or email?
Thanks so much, you are AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Risa
  • Jenny
It wouldn't have taken the code anyway so no worry. When you get your confirmation email, copy the order number off of it and email customer support right away asking to be creditted the amount of coupon code 96140 and they will handle it.
  • Meredith
Thanks Jenny, I just made the same mistake and was ready to email you to see what I should do. You beat me to the punch-as always. When should we hear back from them? Will they credit our cards for the 2 packs of batteries? Thanks for all you do!
