This week I had to do something I haven’t done in over 4 years…  I ran out of butter while trying to make mashed potatoes and was forced to pay almost $4 for stick butter.  If I weren’t so southern I probably could have suffered through mashed potatoes with no butter, but that is just wrong!  Butter needs almost a stick… or if you’re Paula Deen it needs two sticks!

The lesson from it all – - never run out!  Butter freezes and I should have had at least one package in the freezer.

Publix:
Total Spent: $3.89
Total Saved: nothing…

I made up for it at Kroger the next day stocking up on FREE cereal.  You still have another day of this great sale so head out if you can.

Kroger:
Total before sales and coupons: $44.10
Total Spent: $15.71
Total Saved: $28.39 or 64.3%

I only grabbed cereal, milk and some of the free toothpaste and other unadvertised deals list in the post above.

    wow we must be on the same wave length Jenny.. I did the EXACT same thing.. ran out of butter. Although, I got mine at Winn Dixie it sure wasn't any cheaper!

    Caller: “I am making some mashed potatoes and (sob , sob)

    Butter 911 “Maam, I am going to need you to calm down… We have dispatched a unit and they are on there way”.

    Caller “Oh thank you, you just don't know how grateful I am!!!!”

        PS in all seriousness, Aldi's butter is $2.49, so I practically have to hold my breath when I break down and buy Publix butter at $3.49.

          If the mashed potatoes weren't for company that was supposed to be there in 5 minutes I would have gone the extra 10 minutes to Aldi… they can be great for emergency moments!

            A couple months ago, I ran out of toilet paper. (!!!) I made my family wipe their bottoms with little pieces of paper towels for a day, until I was able to restock ON SALE. This is a sickness. :)

          It used to be $1.99 at Aldi and the supercenters. Now that (and bacon) are going up.. :-(

I know it's crazy making so many trips to the store, but they're only a couple of miles away and, for various reasons, we never seem to get everything in one trip. Lol.

      Fri @ Bilo I Spent $16.25 and saved $40.74. I never seem to do as well at Bilo as I can at Publix, but thanks to this site (Thanks Jenny!!!) the savings are incredible anyway :)

    Went to Kroger today and bought 4 boxes of General Mills Cereal and 7 BIG bags of Chex Mix plus a book of postage stamps(regular $8.80) and my total was $8.60! Praise the Lord! Thank you Jesus!! He is so GOOD!

    I hit Publix on Thursday after work. I saved $50 and spent $23 out of pocket. If it weren't for my obsession with the bakery & deli I would do much better. I guess with a sandwich and some pumpkin spice donuts 68% savings isn't too terrible.

      I have the same problem.MMMMMM!… Hard to pass that bakery with out buying something! But what I save with coupons allows me to buy those things, and stay well within my budget, without breaking the bank.

    I just started back with using coupons after many decades of not using them…WOW loaded coupons on my Kroger's card and it worked!!!You website and tutorials are great tools! It is nice to be saving again and it is so easy!

    I used up a bunch of rain checks to roll extra bucks and I ended up with $24 more than I stated with!

    total saved: $70.18 or 98.5%
    started with no ups, ended with $1

    My best trip was to HT this week. Bought 4 martha white muffin mixes b1g1 for $1.15 and used two $0.55 coupons that made them about $0.02 each, 5 banquet pot pies @ $0.57 each, 1 bottle of HT anti bac soap @$1.57, and one pompein red wine vinegar @2 with a $1.00 coupon. Total before coupons was around $14. Used a $4 GM Catalina and a $1.50 McCormick Catalina, and paid $0.18 OOP! That includes tax :) so I was pretty happy with free food!

    Target and Walmart have un-advertised sales on Similac Ready to Feed bottles. Target they are on sale for $3.86 and Walmart $3.84. Not sure how much longer this sale will last but Coupons.com has $3 off Similac coupons.Today I bought 18 bottles at $3.84 which should have been $69.12 but with 18 $3 off coupons (I had everyone I know print them off for me and I went to multiple libraries to print these coupons) and I ended up paying $15.12! If I would’ve bought these at the regular price, which is usually around $5.60 each, I would’ve paid $100.80…So, I saved $85.68!!! Such an exciting day for me!

      That is awesome. I didn't have to buy formula (I nursed), but I couldn't believe how expensive formula is. You got a wonderful deal. I love to get good deals on baby items, especially the expensive items.

    Publix B1G1 plus coupons…total bill $131, spent $75 saved $56….43% saving. I just recently found this website and to date this is the most that I have saved at any one time. Thanks for the great tips on savings.

    I understand about the butter. It seems that prices vary from $2.50 to $.4.15 almost weekly. Last year, just before Thanksgiving, Wal-Mart had their butter on sale for $1.50 per pound. I don't remember how much I purchased and froze, but I have less than 2 pounds left, and I haven't purchased butter since last November! This was one of my best bulk buys!

    I saved 81% at Kroger this week – I spent ~$26 and saved $111 (if memory serves correctly, I don't have my receipt handy). The cashier who helped me is always super friendly and encouraging, but today was hilarious…she was trying to get the attention of all the other ladies in the checkout area to let them know I only paid $26 for all those groceries!

    Well, I got excited after the seminar and decided to hit Walgreens today. Got messed up right off the bat b/c the Contac was out of stock – sale price $6 with a $6 RR. So I asked the manager about a raincheck- I was buying other items (with rebates for FREE and others with RR and coupons) so the manager said he couldn't do a raincheck for the RR but would give me $6 off my purchase. OK – rings up $34 (I'll get $26 back in rebates) but then my $5 RR didn't print – it only came out $3 even though I bought 3 participating items – so nice manager gave me a $5 gift card. I then bought Diapers and toothpaste and a stocking stuffer for DD and paid $2.50 – then got $4.50 in RR. All in all – not perfect but I easily got $60 (before coupons) for $6.

    I have learned so much from Southern Savers and just want to say THANKS.

    For the month of October I saved $525 and only spent $226 total. Cost would have been $751. Cumulative savings of 70% To me that is unreal.
