This week I have been in Haiti! It has been such a great experience, but of course did not allow for any coupon shopping (I could barely communicate but did get good at bartering). It has been so fun to give out the Operation Christmas Child boxes and see what’s going on there.  I hope to have a full synopsis and fun video done by the end of the weekend, but for right now my brain is still processing everything.

You guys came to my rescue yet again though and had an awesome shopping week! Check out all the savings pictures sent in by Southern Savers readers of their purchases.

Total Before sales and coupons: $2785.55
Total Spent: $837.60
Total Saved: $1947.95

How did you do this week?  Leave a comment or link directly to your posts. (We are using a fun new system and if you link to anything other than your savings post it’s not gonna be fun).

    • I accidentally put my name in the box for the title – oops. Well, I saved 50% which wasn’t great but not too shabby!

Did not fair to great this week, though did not need a lot of items, have a big upcoming weekend of coupons and sale papers so we will see what the weekend brings.

I did pretty great this week. didn't do a ton of shopping and still need to get out tonight/tomorrow but so far, here's how I did.

      Rite Aid
      total before sales/coupons: $349.37
      total oop $3.06
      total saved: $346.31 or 99%
I also ended up with $10.87 on a gift card for being overcharged for a few things, meaning net cost was -$7.81. I'm also going to get $55.96 back in SCR!! I LOVE turning +ups into cash!

      Kroger
      total before sales/coupons: $17.59
      total oop: $1.81
      total saved: $12.78 or 90%

      CVS
      total before sales/coupons: 10.29
      total oop: $.12
      total saved: $10.17 or 99%

I also spent $3 on papers

HOW? expecially at Kroger, with only being able to use MFG and Store (and I do not have any store) I have a hard time saving alot of money there. I went there last night and I got $268.00 worth of grocerys for $124.00. but I want to figure out how ya'll are getting all this for just a few dollars.

Everytime I go to Rite Aid I do not get the right uprewards back or there is always a problem, How is it possible to get $349.37 for $3.06.

I wish I could understand this,
Oh and is it true Kroger only takes 2 coupons for a like item?

    • msbos

Very new at couponing… second week at it. We went to Kroger and shopped the mega event and had coupons. Total 138.31, after coupons it was 67.50. I'm so glad I attended your couponing workshop! Thank you.

    • Christy12

I haven't taken pictures yet in my coupon journey but wanted to share…
January was the first month I have “tracked” my store savings and overall I bought $1147.10 worth of products and paid $383.41 after sales, coupons and rewards!!! That is a total of 67% off of retail and 50% off of sale price!!
This is EXCITING (and that is only getting 1 paper a week) My best was a trip to Walgreen's were I took home $80.54 worth of products AND $34 RR for only $36.65 out of pocket!!!
      Thank You Jenny :)

I messed up & had a time this week at Kroger & it really upset me. :( I tried to use the $5 off Zantac coupons at Kroger, but the cashier said they were fake b/c they didn't have some kind of box bar code thingy at the top of the coupon. she said she couldn't give me back my coupon & said she had to rip them up. I was in shock! so of course I didn't want the 2 boxes of zantac if I couldn't use the coupon, so I told her I didn't want them which threw off my whole 10 mega event deal so I had to pay the regular price for 8 of my items. I was sooo bummed.

      • Sdavisva

You can return to Kroger customer service – buy two additional mega items at thier 'sale price' – and then they will refund you your $5. You just need your receipt. If you can't go back tomorrow, you could call and see if they would let you come back in next week to correct the problem. I've messed up a bunch of megas over the past year and a half and never realized that it could be fixed. They even have a special barcode to scan to give you your $5 refund. HTH!

        • treyNkadesmom

awesome! I didn't know that either! I think I will go tomorrow & do that b/c it's driving me crazy that I didn't get the sale prices. Does anyone know if it's true about the smart source coupons being fake if they don't have the little black box code thingy on the coupon? I think the cashier was just a crazy coupon lady who didn't want to take my coupons. She didn't even try to scan it but just rip it up.

          • Ginger

If I were you, I would have asked for a manager. She had no right to keep or destroy your property. She is not the police, and had no legal authority over you.
Also, if you personally printed the Qs off of smart source, I don't see how they could have possibly been fake. Smart source isn't going to put a fake coupon up on their site.

    • kate

well don't i feel dumb… i'm number 34 there. it said name. i thought it meant my name… not what you'd like to name the link. LOL

    • kate

      er, 33 (geeez)

    • I like the new way to post our deals with pictures. too cool! :)

    • Mickiegibbs

I think this was my best week, yet (I'm still in my first month).

      CVS: Spent $6.20, Saved $24.95
      Kroger: Spent $84.20, Saved $69.13
      Publix: Spent $12.95, Saved $11.67
      Totals: Spent $103.35, Saved $105.75

Spent $24 at Earth Fare ($0.99 savings AND they were out of the free wings!!!). Earth Fare is the only place I can find the creamer I use (I need to ask Kroger if they can start carrying it) and bags of organic apples.

Went to Staples after the grocery store, got my free $11 sticky notes and $10 off printer paper (rebates coming) since I'm using up all my paper printing coupons, LOL.

I got an email today that a $5 rebate is on the way and I think I have enough to send off for another $7.

I'm loving this process! I haven't felt well this week and had to make myself make out my list and gather my coupons. Would have rather not gone shopping today. Started thinking, “It's over. I'm tired of this already.” But after the Kroger trip, I was having FUN!

    • SweetSavr

How do you get $10 competitor coupons??

      • katie

I wondered that too, but then I saw a $19 dollar on one of the receipts. How is anyone getting that kind of coupon?!? Please inform us!

    • Jessie E.

I'm still new to this and am already hooked on the drug store deals!
Last week I spent just over $10 and got back $26 from Walgreens. I then used that $26 to stock up on bottled Dasani and B1G1 fish oil capsules. (Didn't save that receipt though, so I can't count it up in my totals)
Today I spent $25, saved $55 and got back $22 (the way I see it, I spent about $3!)

I spent about $23 saved $35 and got back $10 from CVS. My best deal was buying 5 cases of Coke products for $15. Used a $5 off $15 and $5 ECB to bring it to a total of $5. That's $1 per 12 pack!!

I think I'm finally getting myself used to going through the grocery store ads, organizing my coupons and will hopefully start doing some grocery store savings soon!

    • I don't have the picture but I bought 8 boxes of Special K at Rite Aid for 38 cents oop. I used 4 bogo coupons and a rain check from a few weeks ago.

      • Frugal4eva

        Hi there. What's oop?

        • Kcwandu2

oop = out of pocket expense.

    • Kristina

For CVS this week, My total was $53.80 and after coupons $20.89. I then went off to Rite Aid, which was my best savings-total before coupons $287.03 and after savings $48.61. At Walgreens, the total before savings was $122.80 and after coupons $42.40. Last but not least, Tops Markets (grocery store in NY), total before savings was $162.53 and after savings $82.61.

    • Shayelyn

I did pretty well although I dont' have pictures. I think I had my second best week at Publix ever with $90.84 in total savings and $47.64 OOP. But my absolute favorite was spending $4.99 on Neuragen, getting $10 RR and turning around and getting three 24 packs of Desani water for $1.97 at Wags.

    • Jen M

I tracked my first month of spending in January. Here are my numbers…
      Total Shelf cost: $3788.51
      Total Coupons: $1167.97
      Total Discounts: $1338.18
      Amount Paid: $1317.93

      Savings Rate of 67%!

I was so excited. Can't wait to try to beat that in February.

    • I forgot to take pictures but I did “donation” shopping this week. First, I took advantage of the B1G1 Stayfree at Rite Aid and picked up 22 packs of various size pads…total spent after coupons $3.87 (originally $75.28). Then I went to Food Lion and took advantage of the Unilever promotion with Dove & Degree deodorant coupons. I got 16 sticks of deodorant and spent $1.10. All of my great finds this week have been taken to my local women's shelter.

    • Jmnasdaqqqq

after just 4 weeks of southernsavers I am proud to say Thank You! This is the biggest savings yet <3 Spent $ 25.89 and saved $ 144.00

    • Jjtwyatt

Ended up having a great weekend. 50% savings at Target and 20% savings at Walmart did not need a lot this week, though Target had some great sales and coupons this week and a few good deals at Walmart as well, found some markdown on glade automatic freshners. Normally over 7.00 marked down to 4.88 then 3.00 coupon, picked it up for 1.88.. Not to shabby.

    • Kate_coupons

Does anyone else wonder how you get a competitor coupon worth $19 as seen in one of the pictures of a receipt?

      • LB514

Sometimes a cashier will add up all of your competitor coupons and enter them into one entry. Or maybe someone used $19 of ECBs, RRs, or another type of reward.

    • LB514

I hope I used the form correctly; I'm not seeing my post yet but maybe it just takes a little time.

    • Bpinzer

      Jenny,
Still waiting for a full report on your trip to Haiti! :)
