Hi All! Does any veteran school supply shopper out there have a buy price list for school supplies?

      • Rebecca

I got 33 cent composition notebooks at CVS this morning (technically the ones I bought are called “1 subject notebooks”, but the nice ones w/ the nice composition notebook-style binding were included in the deal in addition to the ones that were spiral bound).  The kids aren't in college, yet, so I doubt the teacher will really care if they don't say “composition notebook” on the outside!  :)

    • Guest

You have to have a minimum purchase of $5 to get the 1 cent deals.

    • Stephanie R

Can I get more than one 1 cent item when I spend the $5?

      • kathy

It says limit 2.  But sometimes they let you buy more if you can prove you are a teacher.

        • Ek1998

If you have a teacher rewards card and teacher ID, you usually can purchase 25, but it depends on the store manager as well.

      • Rebecca

It's 2 of each for your $5- oop.  For instance, if you bought $5 worth of stuff, you can get 2 packs of 1 cent erasers, 2 packs of the 1 cent pens, and 2 bottles of the 1 cent glue.

    • Cmskelton

If you are a teacher and have an ID…you should be able to get 25 of each on the penny items (you do still need to purchase the $5 though)!!!

    • Carthur05

I just called to check on the limit and they said that even if you are a teacher, you can only get 2.  He said that the register will begin to charge regular price after 2 and they can't change it.

      • Carthur05

It must depend on the store.  Just called another store and she said that as long as you could prove you were a teacher, you could get up to 25 of each item.

    • Stephensgirl99

This is also a great opportunity to purchase school supplies to donate! You can always find a church or food bank that is collecting supplies for needy kids.

      • Abbeypsu

I agree. I'll be filling two backpacks for a church ministry.

        • Rebecca

Our school doesn't let us know who the kids' teachers are until a day or two before school starts, and then that teacher has her own supply list (usually differing from the general one that the school puts out -well in advance- for each grade).  I buy what I think the kids will need, plus more, and then when I get the actual list, I scramble to pick up the odd items the day before (which is ridiculous, btw, but I'm not bitter about it), and everything else goes to whatever school supply drive I can find to donate it to.

    • Cattyjenny

I just got (2) $5 off $25 coupons from Staples in a post card in the mail yesterday!!  Just in time for school supplies! Love it!

    • Heather

Does anyone know if u can use coupons @ staples? I thought I heard u coulldnt use coupons anymore, unless it is an actual Staples coupon.

      • Jaylene Scott

I used one there not too long ago.

    • Jbluikart

I believe if you are a school teacher you can bring in proof and your limit goes up to 5.  It was that way in the past years anyways.  Worth a try!!

    • Amanda

So can my husband go through the line after me and purchase 2 more of everything? I homeschool..a limit of 2 is ridiculous, especially since the store is 30 minutes away.

      • Sillysnicks

Yes, I have even gone out to my car and put my stuff up and and then gone back in and purchased again.  I agree limit of 2 is silly but imagine what would be left if there weren't any limits!  Just remember, you have to spend $5 to get the penny items.

        • Trareid

My child needs 6 folders alone. So would it really be worth me spending 15.00 to go in three times for 1 cent folders.

      • Amy

If you homeschool, take proof and get a teacher rewards card. You can get a limit of 25 then. At least of the penny items.

        • Amanda

I don't know what kind of proof I can take…a picture of my school room filled with my children and their books. lol

          • adrienne

@ amanda you can take your letter of intent

            • Dianne L

or if you are a member of HSLDA (which you should be :)), then you can use your ID card from them

            • guest

I STRONGLY disagree that you “should” belong to hslda! I homeschooled my kids for 11 years, researched hslda thoroughly before we started and for us it would have been a huge waste of money–starting w/ they didn't even have any lawyers on their payroll who were legally qualified to practice law in my state.

I think you and anyone else should research hslda before you “buy” to make sure it meets your needs

            • Frances

I disagree with your post “guest”.  We have a lifetime membership to HSLDA.  It was well worth our money for our five children ages 5-16 whom we have homeschooled from the beginning.  HSLDA is an outstanding organization.  I highly doubt that you will feel that HSLDA does not have lawyers not legally qualified to practice law in your state now.  I consider my membership “insurance” in case I ever need the organization.  If not, I know I have helped other homeschoolers by my membership.

          • HomeschoolingCouponingMom

Amanda…I home school (we're in GA). Some stores will accept your Letter of Intent (here in GA, that's the letter we have to submit to the BOE letting them know we intend to home school) or, if you belong to a home school association/support group, your membership card. I'm interested in contacting Staples and finding out if they accept home school parents/teachers. JoAnn Fabrics does. I showed my support group membership card and received a 15% discount teacher card.

          • Aimee

Are you not a part of an association?  Then you should have a card saying so.

          • guest

If your state requires certain paperwork to be filed you can use the proof that you have done so as proof of homeschooling. You can also make yourself a “faculty id card” (take a good face picture, attach it to a card w/ your school name and list your position as teacher, laminate) Lots of people here do those for their older kids as well since there are places (movie theaters, skating rink, etc) that offer discounts for students

    • Dianne L

Is the Charmin toilet paper deal still going on? I told a friend about it, thinking it was a month long deal, and when she went, they said it was just last week.

      • I went in Thursday (7/7) and found the Charmin still on sale. hth

      • Asmith

Got one yesterday and was 4.99 charmin basic 16 rolls

    • Sillysnicks

I called Staples and I was told teachers could get 25 of the penny items but would be held to the same limit on all the other items.  The guy on the phone said he got a “paper” explaining?!?

      • Ericarae1327

I was able to get up to 25 of the 1 cent and 25 cent items today!

        • Sillysnicks

So envious…I really needed a new class of the poly folders!  They last for years and the ones we have are on their last legs!

    • GAmommyof3

I am SO excited!  I just got a Staples letter in the mail with a card for 15% off school supplies “all season long.”  It says I can use it once per day until September!  I just wonder if the $5 for the penny items will be pre or post discount.  Has anyone ever done this?

    • For those that were talking about going through and doing numerous purchases. Remember there's a reason there's a limit. How mad do you get when there's a great deal but they're all gone cause someone has wiped the shelves or bin clean. Please be considerate and not abuse the system or Staples could very well just stop doing it all together.

      • Rebecca

The only shelf-clearers at our store this morning were the teachers.  Bummer that us Moms can't even get 2 of something!  Where does Staples think this stuff goes, anyway!

        • KBB

While I can definitely see the frustration for non-teachers looking for the supplies, I have to say that I was extremely grateful to Staples today for giving me the opportunity to get these supplies so cheaply. My students come to school without ANYTHING, and supplying 25+ students with school materials is not something the school or I can afford at actual price. I hope that Staples keeps this in mind and has many extra boxes of supplies ready so that everyone can have a chance to cash in on the deal.

          • Rebecca

I'm sorry I'm grouchy.  I didn't have a good experience at Staples today.  Our store was under-stocked this morning.  I wasn't trying to knock the teachers out there, but when you drive 20 minutes for just 2 of each thing, it's a little frustrating when a teacher walks off with the last 25 (in the first 15 minutes of the sale).  Our store should have been better prepared, I guess.  As a side note, some of the stuff I buy goes to kids in need as well, as we don't get our supply lists until 1-2 days before school starts (And by then I've already bought everything that I think my kids will need. Whatever isn't on the teachers' lists goes to whatever school supply drive I can find – lots of needy kids in our area as well).  Have a great school year!

            • Angelascoupons1

Will Staples give rain checks?  That could be an answer to the out of stock issue.  Does anyone know???

            • Amy

Last year, they didn't give rain checks for the extreme deals.

            • Calico

No rainchecks..ask if they are substituting anything.

        • Oneteacher

          Don't be a teacher hater!

    • Tanyalulu

Is the $5 minimum purchase before or after coupons?

    • Calico

I work for Staples & i wanna clear up a bunch of comments.1….Yes, show your Teacher ID & your limit is 25 on the 1cent sale product when you make a $5 min. purchase.2….No, Staples will NOT except any INTERNET coupon from any competitor.3….The 15% off Back to School Savings Pass (now-Sept.17th)..is good on any BTS supply, Calculator, Backpack & much more. You will receive 15% off the 25/1 cent items. You can only use the BTS Pass ONCE per day.4…The $5 min. purchase is BEFORE coupons.5…The Charmin deal goes thru July 31st, we carry the product all the time,6…All Staples stores accept manufacturer coupons.Hope this helps my fellow couponers!!!Happy Shopping!!!!

      • Amanda

I the don't accept any internet printable competitor coupon, why does Jenny always post that deal?

As a homeschooling Mom, would I be able to qualify as a “teacher”?

        • Calico

I have seen that Jenny posts saying Staples accepts internet comp. coupons. Home Office has always told us no. We will price match any local competitor pricing. With Homeschooling teachers, i would say that's each managers decision.

        • Jhwhitley77

I homeschool and have never had a problem qualifying as a teacher… HTH

      • Dianne L

Thanks for your info! Can you tell me how much the BTS savings pass costs?

        • Calico

The pass costs $10. I've seen customer's save almost $10 in their 1st transaction.

          • Dianne L

Thanks. That is not a bad price at all!

      • Amy

Thanks for the info. My staples has accepted an internet coupon for office depot a couple of times. Maybe that's a manager's decision for their store?

        • Shannon

          Mine has too!

    • Rhoadesaa

FYI–the Staples ream of Multi-Purpose paper is 25 cents AFTER a $5.74 easy rebate.  A great deal–& I am hoping it will work to meet the $5 minimum purchase to grab some of the 1 cent and 25 cent deals.  Rewards members–check your mail before you buy that 15% off card they're advertising b/c it came free in my mailbox yesterday!  :)

      • Calico

The Staples ream of paper that's 25 cents after rebate WILL meet your $5 min. purchase. Congrats!! on getting a BTS Pass in the mail, Home Office were sending those out to a select few.

      • Angelascoupons1

I got an email from staples but not the free card…boo!

      • MustangLadyred

Thanks for the hint about the paper…..I plan to go in later today to get mine!!
I too got the rewards card for free in the mail on Saturday!!!

    • BrittG

Last week, someone posted a link to a FANTASTIC post-it coupon.  It saved me 10 dollars.  Just wondering if anyone had any great coupons for this week that they could post.

    • Bethany

Anyone know if the eraser caps are latex free? Our lists are becoming difficultly expensive with “latex free” items as those are not normally the ones on sale. Also, the poly folders – with brads or without? Thanks to anyone who can answer these!

      • If I remember correctly and its been some time since I got them I believe they are latex free and I only say that because I have to be careful with my own personal exposure to latex.

      • couponing rocks!

Just looked at my pack and they are latex free.

    • Thank you so much for the printable list and printable coupons to go along with these deals.  I had already warned my other half that we would be hitting Staples tomorrow to use a $10 gift card.  This just sweetens the deal.

      Thanks.

    • Susan

Kudos to my local Staples today! I was very impresed.  They had all the items on sale.  I asked questions and they knew the answers!  I am a teacher so I was able to get the 25 items instead.

    • Marandtysmom

My staples was finally stocked on the sale items.  I was also able to get 25 of the items by showing my school id.  I was also able to use a 5 off of 25 office max coupon ( I do not have an office depot in my town).  Tons of great deals.

    • LeAnn

I too was impressed with my Staples this morning. By the looks of the front door at 11 am, you'd think it was Black Friday!! They had everything stocked that was advertised, and were very welcoming and helpful. A+ for customer service! Just don't be a loser like me and not notice that some items are “after easy rebate” and hold up the line. Sorry, people who were behind me.

    • Jeneane

Thank you, Southern Savors, for posting this.  I got three bagfulls of stuff for seven dollars!  Teachers—you can get 25 of the 1 cent items by showing your teacher ID.  Awesome deals, and like some of the previous posts, I was very pleased with the helpfulness of the store employees and how well-stocked things were.

      • Julia

I did the same thing today.  Those cap erasers come in handy as I require my students to complete their work in pencil.  My husband is also a math teacher and went about 20 minutes after me.  When I was there the glue was about gone.  He came back with all of his items still in the shipping boxes because they were restocking.

      • Felicia

Is this advertiesed? or how do you know you can get 25?  I've got to get me a teachers card when I go in the next time so I was just wondering.

    • couponing rocks!

Just looked at my pack and they are latex free.

    • Dbaeimers

Does anyone know what day the ad was in the paper?  I bought today's paper thinking I could take the ad to Walmart to price match (easier to spend $5 at Walmart than here) and none of the back to school ads were in today's paper.  (I live in Chattanooga)

      • LeAnn

My paper didn't have a Staples ad (Huntsville Times) – I only knew about the sale prices from seeing them here.

      • Adriennewillis29

Might want to double check b/c I thought mine didn't have one either.  It isn't like all the other sales ads…. it was more like a two page newspaper flyer.

      • Couponqueen66

Staples usually has their ad in Saturday's paper.

    • Mary

Ditto for me.  I went this afternoon and not only were they fully stocked but they had several employees just around the sale items to make sure we could find everything we needed.  Between the great sale events and the rewards and rebates, they have made a loyal customer out of me!!   I know I spent over $100 at Target last year and I got the majority of what I need for $17.

      • lorib0704

I don't know which Staples you went to, but I would have loved to have had great customer service. I approached an associate and while asking him a question two other ladies came over. He told me he couldn't tell me where the sale items were located. It would take away from the thrill of the hunt. He also said the penny and 25 cent items were not marked. After a minute of listening to him go on and on about how if they put all the extreme deal items at the front of the store no one would shop for other things, I interrupted him. All I wanted was Sharpies and he refused to tell me where they were at.

    • LeAnn

Are the Staples' limits weekly, or per shopping trip? For example, if I go back tomorrow and get 2 more reams of paper that have the easy rebate, will I be able to get 2 more, or does my rewards card tie me to the 2 I've already bought? Thanks!

      • Amy

The rebate says two per household.

    • lovedbyGod2

I'm sad about the $5 minimum purchase this year to get the .01 cent deals – though I understand it… I'm not always going to need to walk into Staples and spend $5 just to get a deal I want…

      • Amy

Same here, though like you I understand the reason behind it. Look for rebate deals, like the paper this week. You have to put out the money up front, but you'll get it back in a few weeks.

        • lovedbyGod2

you're absolutely right! I didn't need any paper – I still have all of that free paper we got last year, but that's an easy/almost free way to hit $5 and I can give it away to  a school or nonprofit! Thanks!

    • Klonghall

I bought the school supply 15% savings card on Saturday.  Guess what Staples sent me in the mail for free today (Monday)?  Yep, the same exact 15% savings card.  Unfortunately, it can't be returned or credited.  (I asked the manager.)  It was so nice of Staples to send me the card for free.  I just wish I had known to expect it…  I guess I can find someone to give it to.  I just hate that I wasted $10.

      • lovedbyGod2

That was nice of Staples! I thought about buying one – but I only want it if I know I'm going to make up for the $10 in savings, and since I don't need a bookbag this year… I just don't know.

      • Couponjunkie

I saw the ad for the 15% off card but we've been on vacation this week and when we got back guess what I found in my mail!!  I'm glad I had to wait.

    • momto2boys

I just wanted to say that I am very pleased with the service I received at my local staples!  All of the items were in stock and they had employees walking around the store helping people find the sale items.  I also inquired about homeschooling moms being recognized as teachers and the manager said “absolutely”….I don't really need 25 of each item but I do believe I will go back and get a few more to donate to a school supply drive at our church.  I also purchased the BTS savings card and my total was only $43 for nearly everything I need to begin our year!
