I love my new button.  Thanks Ellen for getting creative!!

Welcome to Day 6!!

Today we are going to have some fun.  TJ Maxx & Marshals are running a great promotion to try to raise money for Toys for Tots.  They are running a Caroloke Contest on YouTube.  For every person that loads a video of them singing one of the TJ Maxx and Marshalls original carols they will give $1 to Toys for Tots.

Not only do you get to have fun singing and help out a good cause, they are also giving awesome prizes.  One person will win a $5000 shopping spree and 15 folks will win $100 gift cards!

TJ Maxx & Marshals are also running a fun activity for bloggers too, this is where I need your help.  They are hosting a “Secret Gift Exchange” and have matched up various bloggers.  I have $25 to spend at Marshalls on a fellow frugal blogger that lives up north.

To get to the point… the giveaway

Today we are giving away (2) Flip MinoHD Camcorders (these retail for around $190).

To Enter:

1.  Leave a comment with a gift idea for my fellow blogger that is $25 or less and something that would be at Marshalls.

2.  Head over here and sing a christmas carol.  Come back and leave a comment with a link to your song.  (You can use a camcorder or a webcam for your song).

(this gives you two chances to win!)

P.S.  Tomorrow when winners are announced I’ll share the link to my song

Day 5 Winners

I was sent a $25 giftcard by TJ Maxx/Marshalls to participate.  The Flip Camcorders are sponsored by Southern Savers.

    • Jessi M

Candles:) Everyone loves candles and they have such a good selection at Marshalls!

    • Jackie

How about a “Grown Up Time Out” gift set? Get her some bubble bath, candles, a relaxing music CD (they have some cheap one for like, $6 to $7)… girly stuff she can use to unwind after a long day.

You can write her a card that looks more like a coupon (which is right up your alley) stating that the bearer of the coupon is entitled to a “Grown Up Time Out,” for when she wants to take some time out (get it…hehe) of her busy schedule to relax right at home.

I think it’s a great idea cause you have some freedom to search for the best items to collect based on availability and price, plus it incorporates couponing, plus, it’s a girl’s dream to sit in a nice warm tub, soaking in bubbles, with the soft glow of a candle, while letting the sound of music drown out the busyness of life…

Come to think of it, I want that right now myself…

    • alice

    • Melanie

      A scarf would be great!

    • Ok, I haven’t heard my thoughts mentioned yet. My ideas may be silly but are very practical and isn’t that what we all are? Practical. Since we use coupons…it only makes sense to do what we do. Anyway, I got a toilet paper roll holder at Marshalls for my mother-in-law because she has made several comments on how she likes my toilet paper holder/roll holder. You can put up to 4 rolls of toilet paper in the holder and also have another roll hanging for use. One of my pep-peeves and my mother-in-laws is someone not changing the roll. If it’s already there, it’s not that hard to change. And also with all the toilet paper we are saving with our coupons it is less storage to store somewhere else when you can put 4-5 rolls out at a time for use in your bathroom! My mother-in-law already has a roll holder, so I just got her a toilet paper storer for $5.99 at Marshalls…hers can hold up to 4 rolls. I spent $6.99 on mine since my house didn’t have holders already built in. Plus it doesn’t allow you or your guests to get in an embarrassing situation.

Get one of those and maybe a hand towel or two for the bathroom…holiday or every day use..your choice. I know this wouldn’t go with the bathroom theme, but throw in a pair of name brand house shoes! I got a pair of Dockers to give to my husband for Christmas for $7. Who doesn’t need a pair of house shoes?? He/she is up north and could keep their feet warm, while they are blogging! With tax, that should be about $25 (depending on the price of the towels) and that’s a lot of practical stuff for $25. However, it’s all depends on their personality. Hope this helps!

    • rebecca meyers

      everyone loves picture frames!!

    • Traci M.

How about some fuzzy sleeper socks with a large mug for either hot chocolate or tea. I LOVE sleeper socks and wear them all day long in the winter !!!! Hope they (and you) have a Merry one !

    • Jessica

I just bought myself a late b-day gift with a gift card from TJ Maxx yesterday..it was a warm, cute, fluffy, so soft feel good robe that was $20 and a pair of slippers to match for $5. I live in GA now but am originally from FL so never really a need for this type of robe but here has been a bit chilly. You did not say if your fellow blogger was female or male, but a robe could be for both or maybe a nice warm throw (which is what I used in theam before I got the robe)
Cant wait to see your jingle!!

    • Rachel

    • Ok – this may sound boring – but my favorite thing (and the fav of most of my friends) is a gift card. Then they could wait for a rainy day – or a boring day and then GO SHOPPING!!!

    • Stacy Smith

I get some picture frames to go with all the free picture deals we have had lately.

    • Michelle Z

I love their handbags – get one in a fun color. One that you might not buy if you were spending your own money. Each time i take a chance on a color it is always great!

They are classier than cloth napkins, better for the environment because they create less waste and better for your wallet because they last a long time. If Marshalls had good enough deals I’d get two sets and matching placemats or napkin rings.

    • Juliett

They always have the best prices on handbags. Although that is a very personal choice. There jewlery dept is not bad! I got my Mom some pearls there for $12 last year! Always a good choice, I think! Would love to give the Flip to my DH!! He would FLIP!!

    • pharmSCgirl

They have the best selection of purses and they are pretty cheap!

    • Susie

A cute basket filled with their gourmet foods, teas, etc! Also maybe a cut dish or tea cup on the basket!

    • Mathea Otero

I was in there today and they had some great pajama sets and slippers that would be a great gift idea.

    • Brandi

I saw an adorable Christmas mug set (4) there just a few days ago! Great for northern weather, and Christmas themed. They also had some great travel mugs for around $7.

    • There is alot of gifts under $25. One that is overlooked there is there cookbooks. Then there is the spa and bath items

    • Fonda Latham

How about a pair of jeans, and some warm cozy socks.

    • Sarah Wall

I love those nice, warm “stay at home” socks they have!

    • Aisha

I have actually never been to a Marshall’s but I’m guessing that they would have nice blankets, or glove/scarve combos… keeping warm for winter!

    • Heather

      Warm scarves are always great.

    • Nicole

For the men in the family, Marshall’s has great dress shirt and tie combinations for less than $25 a set!

    • Ari

I would say to get a series of cute kitchen gadgets and supplies or bath accessories and make a gift basket.

    • Erika

How about a fun holiday serving platter. I got one there that was a large and circular in shape and then it had this cute little snowman in the middle (made of ceramic). Perfect for putting cookies or other holiday goodies in and then something that she’ll use every holiday for the years to come. Then you could also pair with it a cute holiday dishtowel set. I saw some that just had holly leaves, christmas trees, etc. but the one I really liked had one that said “naughty” and one that said “nice” very cute!

    • Angela P

Hmmm. Being a Northerner I can tell you it is way too cold here! (Wind chill tonight of around -11!!! YES that is a negative sign in front of that 11). Anything to aid in warmth would be super! Or even some kind of games for those cold days of cabin fever!

    • Terri

Marshall’s has an excellent selection of purses and wallets. Why not get her one of those? Thanks for the give aways! Merry Christmas!

    • molly

      cute scarf or gloves

    • Kim

      A designer 3-tier candleholder ($9.99), with candles – still under $25. Perfect!

    • Kristy

When I’m buying a gift, I like to buy a gift for people they wouldn’t normally buy themselves. Therefore, I will leave a short list of things I love, but I don’t spend money on: fuzzy socks, jewelry, Holiday serving dishes, and funky bags/purses that don’t just go with everything. I love to buy gifts when you see something that seems to be just made for the person you are getting it for!

    • Michelle

I would love to win this. I just bought an inexpensive camcorder to record my daughter’s play last night and it was a piece of junk. I guess you get what you pay for but that is all I could spend. On to your question, I love new pjs for Christmas! Slippers too!

    • Laura

How funny! The first thing I thought of was a great scarf. I think they are fun to wear, can speak volumes about your style, and make you feel “with it!” :) Then I came over to comment and as I was scrolling down, I saw how many others had the same idea. Oh well, must be a great idea! :) I’d love to win one of these camcorders!!

    • Carla

They have cute hats and gloves! I have quite a few from these two stores. Keep warm this winter:)

    • Linda

I would get a keychain that displays digital photos. Everyone seems to have a digital camera these days!

    • Ileana

Marshall’s always has great items on their home decor aisle. For $25 or less, they have great artwork.

    • Jennifer

I love their kitchen center. They have great decorative platters and pretty plates.

    • Shawna

shoes, shoes, shoes!!!! we can NEVER have too many shoes!!!

    • Erika Ebel

I love to get scarves and jewelled hairpins for my husband’s grandmother at Marshalls. I can usually get a matching set (both in the same color) for under $25 too! She has Alzhiemers and lives at a nursing home and there’s a lady that comes by once a week to do their hair. She loves getting made up and looks so cute!

    • Michelle Corvino

Fuzzy socks and a fuzzy robe for me!

    • stacey

You can’t go wrong with a great purse in a fun color or a cozy bathrobe. For the guys, a great tie or a cool tee.

    • Becky

I would go for a nice set of bath towels. If they are anything like me, theirs are getting threadbare and that’s something you just can’t have too many of. Or some nice dish towels, dish cloths and silicone pot holders in a pretty bread basket.

    • kellye

How bout Jammies, maybe flannel, for those northern nights. Everyone loves pajamas.

    • Beth

How about a gift card? Or is that allowed??

    • Danelle West

What about a cozy blanket & some fun slippers?

    • Karen

I’d get a picture frame. I love giving picture frames with pictures already in them, but I realize that’d be tricky for a “stranger!” For “Secret Santa” type things like that I have also framed Bible verses or nice quotes. You can type it up in a pretty font. They can keep it as is or replace it with a picture. Either way, it’s a fun way to make it a little more personal and not spend more than a dollar in the process!

    • Lindsay

I love getting Yankee candles at Marshalls because they always seem to have them clearanced to $3 or $5.

a cute purse/bag is always a good gift!

    • Martha

      I love it!

    • Rhonda

I would get her some storage containers to store and organize her stockpile.

    • I think some nice warm pj’s or a soft robe. If you have a little extra left I would get a candle for some bubble time. :) Can you tell I have 4 children?

    • denise skelton

      A warm, fuzzy blanket!

    • Julie

      a nice bag!

    • Maegan Hall

      Another scarf suggestion! Maegan

    • You could give an awesome perfume!

    • candice

Well, I may not have the ideas that Ms. Alisha has, but I think I would go with a dress shirt/tie combo. Every man can use one!

    • Alison

I love their linens, so I would get her some warm flannel sheets for those cold northern nights!

    • Rachel

A warm blanket to snuggle with

You can’t go wrong with a cute, nicely made scarf…

    • amanda

      gift card, of course!

    • Laura

I still love giving a scarf and mittens! It can make a new coat look new and festive. It also encourages my family and friends to still “get out and go,” even during the cold weather!

    • Wendy

I vote for gloves. I can never seem to keep a pair with 2 kids in the house

    • Karen W.

How about a gift card. I know, not very creative. Ok, how about several small items like stationary, journals, frames, those specialty chocolates that I always want, lotions, etc.

    • Annette Ramirez

How about a soft, cozy throw and a mug for coffee and/or tea.

    • Stephanie

Marshalls always has really nice bath sets at amazing prices. A great gift for someone you don’t know!

    • Susan

Leather gloves, lined with thinsalate (I think that is how it is spelled), not fur lined, they are not warm enough. Being a former Yankee, my hands were always cold, and leather glovers are good for driving, or packing snow balls. The thinsalate linning, keeps your hands warm and dry.

    • Jennifer

Marshall’s has great mittens and gloves at great prices

    • Monique W.

A fun pair of boots or the hat/scarf/mitten idea are great… or a super groovy bag/purse, because EVERY woman loves those! Oooo or something pampering. That sounds particularly nice!
Or make a gift basket with a fuzzy blanket and something I already mentioned.

PS I have no singing skills at all, and I have a cold… caroloke will so not be happening!

    • Michelle

If you know their size, I say a cute sweater. If not, a purse (if female of course) or a scarf and glove set. We love Marshalls and TJ Maxx here!

    • Wende

      Snuggly boots!

    • Caren

They sometimes have really great lotion that can come in handy for dry skin in the winter.

    • stephanie m

I love getting seasonal items, like sunglasses or hat/scarf/gloves!

A nice set of sheets. I was able to pick up a pair for $24.99 today for a king set.

Also had very soft robes that were pretty

    • Amelia

I usually scour the kitchen clearance when I am there. I use a mixing bowl as a basket and fill it with useful stuff for the kitchen stuff- dish towels, utensils, can opener, etc.

    • Aymee

Jenny, you could make up a gift basket. I wouldn’t put anything scented in case the person has any allergies. Maybe a “Warm the heart” basket with some fuzzy socks, gloves and a nice robe or blanket and maybe throw in some of that free hot chocolate that Publix or Target had!!

    • They have excellent purses and computer bags at great prices!

    • Jenn D

      picture frames I love those

      Go for a hat/scarf/gloves set.

Jenny, this may involve so time but this is a great gift. Buy four wine glass and a nice basket. You could also add in a wine bottle topper if they have any. The other two purchase would have to be outside of Marshals. Buy a can of chaulk board spray paint and some chaulk. You will also need some blue painters tape, hopefully you have this at home. On each wine glass make a retangle shape, I also used scrapbooking scissors to cut the tape for a torn looking edge. Spray the caulkboard paint into the retangle area. I added two pieces of chaulk to each glass. Put glasses, wine bottle topper and also a bottle of wine in the basket. Everyone loves these wine glasses!

Jenny, this is my second entry for an idea. Buy a great photo frame, make sure that it has a matte in it. Go to Micheals and go to the scrapebooking section. There they should have rub ons. I always buy the ones that say Family, togetherness or cherish the moment. I rub these onto the frame. They turn out great and with 25.00 you could by two different frames. The rub ons only cost about 3.00 and its takes just a few secounds to rub it on. Hope like this idea along with my wine basket idea.

    • Mandy

I would get a couple of towels and have them personalized for that extra special touch! =)

    • courtney

A great gift idea is a warm blanket, some coffee mugs and a hot chocolate gift set.

    • Jennifer

Being from OH, I do agree with the winter clothing accessories: scarf & mittens, etc. But I would pick some funky ones to dress up a plain coat-I am sure she already has the standard black/brown.

    • kelly longley

The $25 would buy an awesome scarf!

    • Janelle

How about a new handbag or a pair of boots(if you know her size). So many cute boots at Marshalls. I just bought two pairs of shoes last week there for 16 dollars each. Love ’em. Thanks so much for this chance to win!

I always have the best luck in the home sections of stores like Marshalls – I’d go picture frame, candle-ish kind of gift. People have different styles and tastes but a picture frame can be pretty universal AND very useable!

    • Tracy C

a great pair of bedroom slipers

    • Brandy

A kathy van zeeland purse, a scarf or a few great picture frames!

    • Vicki Ball

I would definitely, as a true ‘Southern Saver’, go with the Burt Bee’s Shimmer Clutch. It includes a black clutch, champagne lip shimmer, rhubarb lip shimmer, and watermelon lip shimmer. Retail price $15; Marshall’s price $3…the best part is a $1 off coupon from Sunday newspaper a couple of weeks ago!

    • Adele

    • Beka

If you know it’s a lady, I’d get some nice serving dishes for parties and showers and such. The ones that match everything because they are white. Marshalls and other stores like that usually have some nice dishes.

TJ Maxx is my ABSOLUTE favorite store ever! There are so many good things! I think a wonderful splurge that we never buy for ourselves would be a nice, thick robe – they usually have really good ones there. Your friend would love that!

PS – If I had a camcorder or webcam I would record myself singing (and I sing horribly!) and post it wherever it needed to go to get a second chance at this! Thanks!

    • catherine aponte-gray

A nice picture frame with a picture of you!

    • Jeans

    • Chantelle

    • Heather

A single-handled, metal-framed fabric tote (they’re all the rage but I don’t know if they have a “name” – they kind-of look like a picnic basket) she could use it to carry around her couponing supplies, etc or small purchases, or sewing, etc…I have mine next to me in the seat during the “carpool line” with everything I need to sort through coupons, etc…keeps everything where you need it!

    • Rebecca

      Yankee Candles !!!

    • lisa kingsbury

Kitchen stuff. A mixing bowl with some other accessories in it

    • Jackie

Had another couple of ideas… how about a nice leather-look photo album? That way, even if it doesn’t exactly match the person’s taste in clothes or decor, it’s still useful. They can enjoy it now and for years to come, since they can just swap out pictures over time while still having a book that looks timeless.

    • Jackie

Or, you can get her a nice box, some pretty stationery and a pen (ideally that all fit into the box) and label it Holiday Memories. I have one that we keep and this is what we do with it… Each year, we ask our immediate family to take a card and write what they are thankful for this year. We put those on our tree during the holidays and then store them in the box after that. The blogger can skip the whole tree part and just ask family and friends to write some holiday memories, or wishes for the new year, and put them in the box, making a sort of time capsule…

    • Jennifer

No kidding… I was at Marshalls tonight and bought a white ceramic coffee canister 6.99, Kona whole bean coffee 2.00 (clearance) and a monogramed coffee mug 3.99 to make a gift basket for a friend. 14.30 total. great gift I think.

    • Christy

Some stylish warm boots for looking good and staying warm in the cold weather…

    • Amy A.

My suggestion is anything kitchen related. Serving pieces, linens, gadget, etc.

    • lynn

Well, regardless of where she lives, but especially because she is up north, some lovely coffee or tea accessories would be great. I saw some fancy gourmet coffee and pretty tins of tea at Marshalls. You could get something like that with some nice mugs and a lovely serving tray. It would be the gift that keeps giving because she could use it when guests come over. You might want to add a little cheese and cracker tray if you have enough money left.

    • Scarves are the thing this year.

    • Sandra

A nice scarf and hat would be nice!

    • Items for making a spa basket would be nice.

      Jen A.

    • Corrie

What about a cute teapot? I’ve bought a couple of really cute ones at Marshalls. They have the best throw blankets, too!

    • Laura Pichard-Murphy

Clothes are great, but picking out clothing for others is a chancy kind of thing.

Make a combo gift that includes items for the kitchen like a Le Creuset baking dish and a Kitchen Aid knife or utensils. You could likely throw in a colorful kitchen towel and still keep it under $25.

Another option would be for the person who loves to entertain…a cheese board and spreader along with wine stem charms.

      Merry Christmas!!

    • Maggie M.

I love the picture frames that say “Family” “Friends” “Mother” and have gotten these at Marshall’s at a great price! So I would get your fellow blogger one or two of these frames depending on the deal you get!
Thank you for another great giveaway!
      Maggie M.

    • Amanda

Well since you have $25 to spend and most of the nice gifts are over that (such as shoes or purse), I recommend a cute little something to put in her house that she can think of you every time she looks at it. Such as one of those cool Santa Clause setups that come in a variety of outfits, or maybe something such as a Christmas candle or ornament.

    • Donna George

Definitely something nice smelling for the bath – a real luxury item like bath beads or salts, or one “serving” of the high-end treatments. Makes you look AND feel like a million bucks. I always think that a gift should be something the receiver wants, but would never buy for themselves because it costs too much for that little bit. Definitly an extravagance.

    • Tori Chauvin

I got a great flat iron for my niece for $25 at Marshalls. The name brand is Baby Bliss. It is the one that the stylists at my local salon use. It retails for much more, so it’s a great buy!!!

I would love this Video Camera!!!
      Keeping my fingers crossed!!

Surprisingly, TJ Maxx and Marshalls carry really nice, inexpensive jewelry–both costume and sterling silver. Right now, I’m wearing a silver chain I scored at TJ’s for $9.99.

    • Kerry

How about some fuzzy slippers or a nice big robe. Those are my two favorite things to have during winter :)

    • Marti

I say nice towels- very spa-like, maybe with a candle or bath salts.

    • Jan

A picture frame set would be a nice gift under $25

    • Marshall’s has a ton of super nice photo albums and books. Maybe a couple of matching ones to put all those cute Christmas photos in.

Marshall’s has a great selection of handbags…..I am a sucker for them. I bet you could find a cute small clutch for under $25. Easy to ship, and something that frugal bloggers may not buy for themselves!

    • Tommie

    • kim

I believe that giving a gift card is sort of like two gifts in one!!!! I think I’d mail the gift card to her and she can pick out EXACTLY what she wants. Include a sweet note about wanting to get her a perfect gift and that she should spoil herself and buy something she has wanted for awhile.
Sometimes it is hard for a mom (I have 6 beautiful children) to spend money on herself. There are always bills and needs for the family. If I receive a gift card it lets me go out and shop (wow…. some time off!!!) and I get to treat myself to a gift I WANT and LOVE!!!!
So, I know that is pretty simple but this way she does get exactly what she wants.
Merry Christmas and thank you for all you do!!!!!
PS….. mailing a gift card is WAY less expensive too!!!!! ha ha

I would LUV to have a pair of them for house shoes right now. They seem so comfy! Good luck finding the blogger gift. I found the best French Coffee presses at Marshalls for only $7.99! There were several different styles, and all of them were prettier than just a plain press. I got several and made gift baskets by adding flavored coffee and a travel mug. They even had a combo french press/travel mug but the regular press was too pretty for me to pass up.You could add a coffee grinder or slippers, or add some spa items and make it a real pampering treat. These presses were less than half price from the presses in other stores…Go Marshalls!
