I have a strong feeling that my shopping week was the same as many of yours.  It consisted on sitting at home and thinking about the deals but not being able to get any of them thanks to impassable roads.

We did run out this week for basic essentials and cold medicine.  We had a second big wave of colds and it’s seriously depleted my stash of medicine.

Kroger:
Total before sales and coupons: $55.17
Total Spent: $26.88
Total Saved: $28.29  or

We grabbed house brand sudafed and children’s ibuprofen along with orange juice, ginger ale, and produce.  A lot of the savings was focusing on marked down produce, it’s still great to eat in the next few days and half the price.

Publix:
Total before sales and coupons: $38.80
Total Spent: $19.40
Total Saved: $19.40

This was my incredibly wonderful husband grabbing what Vitatop muffins our store had left before the sale ended.  He also got a rain check so I can grab more when they are restocked.

I ran into CVS and got a rain check for the Pepsi deal.  We don’t need them right now but the deal will come in very handy when we are heading to the beach this summer!

How did you do this week?  Leave a comment or a link to your savings post.

    • Lisamarieonssi

Yes but most nice stores substituted like items so you were still able to get your deals. I have 4 CVS stores in my daily route and 2 of them are awesome. They ill work out anything for you. They are glad to help you save money and compliment you. The other two look at you like your scum and that you are trying to steal something. They make me feel so bad that I really don't lie going to them. I won't even ask them any questions for the fear they'll ema

      • Lisamarieonssi

embarrass me! I feel looked down upon!

      • Wish these stores would just train their associates how to properly handle coupon and understand that the store actually makes 8cents per coupon.

    • Traci

100% savings this week, thanks to snow and ice. LOL We had plenty of food thanks to a stocked pantry, and I was able to save my entire grocery budget for the week. I did get out briefly this afternoon to run to CVS for rain checks on the Izze and Pepsi products :)

    • Yes, I just finally got out today. Only hit CVS, but that is my favorite.

    • This is my very first whole week! I went to CVS early Sunday morning and did 3 transactions and then I went again yesterday and did the Pepsi deal.
      Total Before Savings/Coupons= 120.43
Total Spent= 54.34 (still have a 10$ ECB for my next visit)
      Total Saved= 66.09

I also hit the brand new Publix twice because the grand opening was so crowded the first day. And I got an 5$ Apron's binder to start my recipe collection; I've never shopped Publix before, it was a whole different experience for me!
      Total Before Savings/Coupons=163.24
      Total Spent=56.65
      Total Saved=106.59

I'm very happy for my first week! The only disappointment I had was Rite Aid…I went there with the intention of getting about 6 different transactions and walked out with NONE. They had nothing at all this week left by Wednesdays. I asked when they got new stock and the cashier said only once every two weeks on Wednesdays (not this one). I thought that was weird and not very smart for a retail store.

Oh, I forgot. Because Publix was doing their Grand Opening, I got a huge bag of free samples and coupons! I was so excited LOL!

      • katie

Rite Aid can be a little odd–they have full stores and “limited distribution” stores. If you have a limited distribution store, they keep small stock on a lot of items and don't get restocked as often as they should. Just don't forget that you can get rain checks if it's a deal you really want!

        • Amber

I've tried that at the Rite Aid….probably the same one…they only give rain checks for 2 of the item and they expire in a month and they only get 2 at a time of replenishment. Totally not worth the frustration.

          • The main one in Lexington? Yeah, that totally would not be worth it then. Thanks!

            • Cheerliteful0209

Oh my, some of the cashiers there are really, really hateful….I only shop there if Doug is working….he is amazingly fantastic to work with. I have now moved to anouther rite aid, where they are super friendly and most of the cashiers coupon too!

        • That's good to know…I was so aggravated when I left there…The cashier was not very friendly so I just left. I probably should have gotten the rainchecks, but do you get the register rewards when you do that there? I wasn't sure, so I didn't want to ask her. LOL

        • Traci

I find Rite Aid to be super aggravating. Unless I go on Sunday bright and early it is all gone. Truly a shame because the employees at my Rite Aid are the nicest drug store I deal with.

    • Mrsleurs524

I did pretty great at Publix this week. Spent $67.57 and saved $112.56! I was SO excited about the diaper deal. It was for the REALLY big box, so I got the 140 count Huggies for $15.50 a box! The Tyson chicken BOGO was great too. HOWEVER, due to the snow in Nashville, they had not gotten a truck in a week (they were all stuck in Atlanta) so I had to go to two stores to get my daughters size diapers. Overall, a better trip than I have had in a while for things I use all the time! LOVE THIS SITE!

    • Shogan422

At Publix I spent $18 and saved &39! Not good considering last week I spent $30 and saved $150!!! At CVS I sid the pepsi deal and spent $21 then ent back and did the Lysol deal ( plus a few extras including a chocolate fountain, left over from Christmas) and spent $2 and saved $68!! • Donna

    • just curious, but where are you based out of?! :) we're from atlanta, and we had trouble getting to the store this week as well.

      • I'm in Columbia SC

    • Klgoff

Didn't do a lot of grocery shopping this week but did get several small great deals! At Wags…total oop was $18.27 and I got 4 bottle of Pantene, 2 boxes of Special K meal bars, and face powder. Then at CVS I got the 6 12-packs of Pepsi drinks for only $8.50 with my ECB and 4 0ff 20 coupon. Lastly I went to Old Navy and saved 71% on a big bag of goodies (242 for only 73) So I am happy with my week none the less!!!

      • Klgoff

Oh and got 10 ECB from CVS too for next week!

    • momto2boys

We were iced in most of the week too! I made it to CVS on Sunday before the snow and did both pepsi deals. Had to make an emergency run to dollar general for some childrens ibuprofen as well…must have been the week for colds because my whole house was miserable, we didn't even go out in the snow but one time for a few minutes. I did finally get out of here today to go back to CVS for the Scott deal. I don't have totals right now but I know I did pretty well!

    • Mistydawncoupon

Are you asking for a rain check even if they have the product?? That was confusing at the workshop last night and didn't get a chance to ask. I'd love to get a rain check for one of the pepsi deals, especially since it is on again next week. I just don't have anywhere to put all those drinks.

      • Ashley

YOu shouldn't be able to. BUT, if they are out of a certain flavor you want you can get a raincheck for that. For example, if they are out of diet then you can get a raincheck for that even if there is a ton of regular.

    • KSC

I went to Publix tonight to get the B1G1 AJ Waffels, and use the $1/2 coupon. They were sold out. Are you saying that I could have ask for a rain check for this item? How does a rain check work?

      • Mindyinsc

yes you could have gotten a rain check. They give you a slip with the item you want, the quantity you want and the price. Within the next 30 days go back and pick them up at the sale price. I did it last week with V8 fusion.

        • MelRae

I know the Publix rainchecks say to use within 30 days, but they don't expire. I used one today from 12/09! Over a year old! I absolutely LOVE Publix. I haven't even been to Kroger since last year!

    • Rose

I went to Publix yesterday and they paid me 51cents after taxes. I left the store with $20 worth of items! Also I have stocked up on my Stayfree Pads. I have about 15 packs of pads for FREE before taxes!

    • Leighann Howell

I sat here and thought about all the great deals I'm missing, too, but that's not because we were iced in (gulf coast Mississippi here, just some low temperatures, no ice or snow…), it was because we don't have stores around here with good deals :-(

When you're enjoying those wonderful Publix b1g1s, think about us poor folk who don't have good stores around lol

    • Mickie

This was my very first week, so I had only a few coupons from last Sunday's paper. I spent my 4 snow days making my plan and signing up for all sorts of deals.

This is a big learning curve for me; I'm changing how I view my weekly meal plans and trips.

I got the Kiwi mag for $2 and a $25 restaurant gift certificate for $2.

I spent about $91 at CVS and saved $65.

I spent about $100 at Kroger and saved $40.

I have an impressive stock of paper towels, TP, and Gatorade.

My freezer is looking real good with lots of Green Giant Steamers for meal sides and individually wrapped pounds of chicken and ground round ready to go.

I'm real excited (and so is my husband) to see what happens to our budget as I get better at this.

      • Donna

Great job! I just started a few months ago & I totally understand the excitement! You'll be amazed at how much you save when you get better (and it'll take less time to plan too) and how much more you'll get at the drugstores once you start racking up the “extra bucks” too! :)

    • My2monkies

Can you get a raincheck for items that are in stock? Ex. The pepsi deal at CVS?

      • Kitten102602

The cashier is not suppose to.. but if they are not paying attention, aggravated or busy when you ask. then yes. All you can do is ask!

      • Yes, you can. They write the event code on the rain check so the extra bucks can be printed when you buy it.

    • My goal is to spend no more than $60 per week on groceries, toiletries, diapers, etc. This week at Harris Teeter I spent $58 for $125 worth of groceries! Click the following link to see a picture and a breakdown of the deals I found:

      http://homemakingmom.com/2011/01/60-weekly-grocery-challenge-spent-58-75-for-125-57-worth-of-groceries/

(I tried to link up above, but for some reason it isn’t showing up). Thanks!

    • Dsgent

I had a pretty good week – only one trip to CVS. The total value was $237, I spent $40 and saved $197. I loaded up on the clearance Christmas gift wrap and gift bags for next year and got an awesome deal on a Spongebob ornament for my grandson. My CVS had its Essence of Beauty stocking stuffers marked down 75% so I got 20 small bath gels, soap, sprays, etc.,for $10.

    • Harris Teeter: $17.98, bought 5 granola bars, 4 biscuits, 4 crescents, 3 cinnamon rolls, 1 Cheerios, Brownie mix, 2 cookie pouches, 1 Jimmy D biscuits! :-)

    • The only thing that fustrates me when couponing, is the fact that they don't have the sale item in stock. It throws off my all my tedious planning and budget. I got tons of cereal for like 60% off.

    • Donitta

Harris Teeter had great deals this week. Total ended up being 100.30 and only paid 58.04, but I only used 1 coupon this week. They have great deals that are BOGO een on meat. Also the 10 for 10 deals are good.

    • Lauren

I went to Publix and Kroger this week. Here are my totals:

Publix: Total paid: $11.58; Total savings: $34.32
Kroger: Total paid: $17.36; Total savings: $22.56 (This included 3 free toothpastes, 2 free Vitamin waters, and a free Sierra Mist 2 liter. I also got 3 Softsoap hand soaps for $0.08 each!)

I wanted to do a little better, but it wasn't too shabby! I'm getting better each week!

    • Staasee

Hubby and I totalled out at Publix beginning at $173 & paid $37 which included 40 boxes of Kleenex

    • Krmilwood

spent 36 and saved 70 at Publix

    • mpb0078

I braved the ice and snow to get to my local Publix. My total was $156.94 but I only spent $22.46!!! And this was only my third week of couponing ever! I was so stoked!!!!!

    • Ap17182

I made a couple trips to cvs this week. I am new to them. I got 12 packs of drinks, scott toilet paper, scott paper towels, 2 of bundle packs of kleenex, loreal eye shadow, starburst, and 2 20 ounce diet cokes. Totals: 78.48 Total spent $40 and still have $10 in extra care bucks
