Publix Weekly Ad 5/20-5/26

on 5.20.2009 at 2:08am

This post may contain affiliate links. Read our disclosure here.

This is a great week at Publix!  This weekly ad starts 5/20 or 5/21 depending on your area.  I am ready for the savings this week.  Remember if you get to the store late that’s okay.  Publix rain checks are great, that means more time to find coupons and no need to rush out on Wednesday morning.  Rain checks at most stores never expire so you get to wait and grab your item whenever you like.

Don’t forget the Yellow Advantage Buy Deals or the Green advantage buy deals.

Check out the Food Lion Printable coupons before you go shopping. Remember that you can use a competitor coupon for house brand items on Publix house brands.  New printables are up.  The only thing of any interest $1 off $5 in Beef.

1. You do not have to buy 2 of the B1G1 items to get the sale price
2. If you do buy 2 items that are B1G1 make sure you use 2 coupons to get the best deal
3. Publix accepts competitors coupons (you can stack with a manufacturers coupon and a Publix coupon too)
4. You can use a store coupon and a manufacturer’s coupon on the same item
5. Most Publix locations double manufacturer coupons that are .50¢ or less

Let’s try to keep comments focused and kind this week!!

This is part of the Grocery Gathering at BeCentsAble.
    • Dianne

Publix deals are awesome. Jenny, you are awesome too. My only problem is lack of room in my small pantry. I don’t think I will complain though since I’m getting quality items at bargain prices. I wonder if Wal-Mart is missing my business. I hated shopping there anyway.

    • Lauri

Can anyone provide the store policies for FL again? My family and I are headed to the beach next week and I’ve got my list in hand so I can utilize these savings at a store in FL, but I want to make sure I’ve got their policy.

    • Dianne,
You are not alone. I hate shopping at Walmart myself. But, today I decided to stop by before my Kroger trip to compare my coupons and I ended up saving $5 more at Walmart than I would have at Kroger. So, I think I will do that before going to Kroger and Publix every week.

    • Alisha

There were several coupons in the Summer ’09 edition of the Kraft Food & Family magazine I got yesterday. One was $1/1 Oscar Mayer hot dogs.

    • Tara

yipee!!! Last one there is a rotten egg!

    • Amanda

Can somebody tell me what the “Family is its own reward” booklet looks like and where it was found? I don’t think that’s one I have in my stash here.

    • Sondy

Heads Up. The Coles Garlic Bread Q says do not double or triple but .89 for garlic bread is still a great price for me. :)

    • Sondy

If you click on Jenny’s FL page you will see a link at the to for corp. policy. Have a fun vacation.

    • Laney

Can someone please tell me how to get the target coupons? The only time I can find them is if it has a link.

    • Karen

I’m having trouble finding ANY Oscar Mayer Hot Dog Q’s. Didn’t find any on the link for the dogs or in my Food & Family mag. Any help?

    • Helen

unable to find oscar meyer coupon when you click printable.

    • :( My Publix has stopped accepting Food Lion and Target coupons. They said they are only accepting local competitors.

    • Laney

Also did the wording on the Food Lion coupons change?

    • Adele

Hey! The only Kraft Target coupon I see is for the chunks/shreads we used last week. That wouldn’t apply to the slices of processed cheese would it? Or is there one that I am missing?

Kraft American Cheese Singles, at $2.59
-$1/2 Kraft Singles printable (makes it .79¢ ea)
-$1/2 Kraft Singles AA 4/19 (Target Coupon)
(if used with Target coupon makes it .29¢ ea)

    • Sharon

Foodlion has added NO OTHER COUPON MAY BE USED WITH THIS COUPON!!! Well it was real good while it last, wonder what Publix will do?

    • Sharon

Well I guess it depends on which ones, All the Baby ones say no other coupon, but other don’t??? Wonder if this is a change coming or just Baby products

    • Emily

Still no sign of the new ALL YOU magazine at the local Walmarts here! My MIL subscribes and has received hers…

      • Jenny

With the FLIPs it is just the Baby ones that have that I guess. I just loaded new ones and they do not say anything.

The Wal-Mart’s don’t put them out until right around the date that is on the Mag. This month it is May 26th or something like that so look for them next week.

For everyone with the Kraft printables… some of them are already gone. If there was a printable I still linked so you will know if you printed one last week or not. I’m sorry you missed them :( It’s hard for me to see what is gone or not since I have reached my print limit.

    • Joy

I haven’t looked online for the printables, but we got some Target coupons in our inserts a few weeks back that had the $1/2 Kraft Singles. Hope that helps.

    • Joy

For the charcoal deal: I found a booklet at my store yesterday called “Summer is Here”. It has a coupon for $3 off Kingsford Charcoal. I also noticed a couple of the $3 off meat peelies still on some bags. So, $12 off if you use all three together, should make for some nearly free meat and charcoal!

The booklet also has $1 hidden valley ranch, masterpiece and glad products.

    • Teri

Jenny, Do you think I could use the following together since my Publix accepts FL q’s:
      $2 q A1 Steak Sauce, $1 off $5 beef FL, and a manufacturer q I got from a tear pad at Publix $1 off beef wyb A1?

      • Jenny

You can use those together. Have fun shopping!

    • Sondy

Kraft sliced Q is still printing. It’s the on that says $1/2 (Shredded, Chunks or slices).

    • Teresa

Having problems getting the V-8 Fusion to print. When I click on the link the top portion looks like it tried to load twice. The only thing it shows is to enter your email address…when I do it says “your last name cannot be blank.” There is nowhere to put my last name…any ideas?

BTW…Jenny Monday I went to Publix and through three transations my total bill should have been $173.94 but after coupons and store deals I walked out paying $70.23!!! My family is loving all the wonderful deals I’ve been getting! Thank you soooo much for your help and hard work! May God bless you and the work of your hands! You are such a blessing!!!!

    • Tammy

Publix is not listed as a store for the $6 off pork coupon and none of the other stores are local for me…any suggestions on being able to use the Q?

    • Jenny, the target coupon for the wheat thins is for a larger size than what’s on sale at Publix.

    • Rebecca

What are Nabisco “classic” cookies. Is that just oreo’s, chips a hoy, etc.?

    • Tammy – this is the link I’ve been using http://www.gatherroundthegrill.com/coupon.php?store=publix

    • Janet

I am also looking for the family is its own reward booklet. Where do I find it?

    • Shannon

Am I correct in understanding that Publix in Florida does NOT double q’s? We are going to be in Florida for vacation and I am trying to plan out my grocery shopping for while we are there. I love the Publix, but will be so sad if I can’t get some great deals???? Is there a better store for good deals in Florida?

    • Kristen

Another question from a newbie ;) I see that I can get the freestyle glucometer for free from Publix this week.

      First question:
Where can I donate this? I don’t have a need for it, but can’t pass up a free item! I’m in Columbia, SC.

      Second question:
I know that CVS has deals on glucose meters a lot. Should I save this for when CVS runs a deal so I can get the free meter AND CVS bonus bucks? (I really am starting to think like a couponer aren’t I?!)

Thanks for all your hard work Jenny. You are fantastic!

    • Amanda

Shannon, I am in florida and I can say I haven’t found a store with better deals, even without coupon doubling. My publix here still takes just about anyone’s coupons. (Wags, Food lion, winn dixie, target) So, I make out pretty good. Hope this helps.

    • Lynn

Are you allowed to print more then one Cole’s coupon? It brings up a box where you could select to print multiple copies. I was just wondering if it assigns a specific number to the coupon and allows you to use it only once.

    • Amanda C

Shannon, (from a differenet Amanda:)) also, not sure where you are going in Florida, but I live in Jacksonville, and I know that Harris Teeter doubles coupons on a daily basis, and Fred’s doubles coupons every Saturday:)

    • Amy

Thanks, Jenny! And shame on all you peelie stealers=) I love the new vocabulary I have from couponing. I even have my husband using some of the lingo. He will like this one!

    • Shannon

When they take other q’s, do they work like store q’s that can be stacked with manf q’s?

    • Jennifer

Hi Jenny! My Publix has blinkies for $1/4 of the Aunt Jemima entrees that are on sale this week. Not great but every little bit helps…

    • Alicia W.

Last week I noticed a bunch of Oreo’s and stuff (Nabisco brand) that was in old timey style packages. I bet that is what Nabisco “classic” cookies means.

    • Joy

Publix is definately the best around in Florida! Honestly, there are only a few items on the list this week that will be better if it was doubled, so don’t lose heart and enjoy your vacation!

    • meagan

having trouble with v8 fusion. link is weird. top part of page is doubled into itself and tried putting in email and it says that i also need to put last name but there is no spot for it?? any suggestions? thanks for everything!

    • Joy

Yes Shannon! You can stack a competitor with a man q.

    • Amanda C

Shannon, yes, you can stack q’s.

    • lynn

on the philly cream cheese irt saysredeem at publix so does that count as a store coupon where we can use two coupons for the one product?

    • Kristie

Tammy.. Just pick any store.. The coupon will print out just fine.

    • lynn

i am in florida the only place hat on rare times that doubles is kmart no one eles doubles here

    • lynn

v8 fusion link is not working asking for last name and page is doubled over hmmmm

    • The Nabisco Classics are a new line of cookies they came out with… they look like this http://www.nabiscoworld.com/brands/brandlist.aspx?SiteId=1&CatalogType=1&BrandKey=classics&BrandLink=/&BrandId=463&PageNo=1

    • lynn

i have seen a few pdf coupons on here today and we cant use pdf coupons at our publix they just wont except them is there another way to get the coles coupon?

    • Tara

Hi all! Here in Lexington, SC they would not take the printable coupon for the Planters peanuts because of the wording on the coupon. They did not try it, just told me no. Oh well, sitting here eating my expensive cashews! Mmmm!!! Also, for the VA Fusion, at my store they had blinkie coupons. Don’t remember how much.

    • Tiffani

Jenny, there is a $.50/1 Target coupon for pop-tarts.

My Kraft Food & Family did not have the Oscar Mayer Q either –apparently we get different mags as my friend’s were different than mine…

There was a Target Q for the hot dogs in the inserts for $1/2 from 4/19/09 SS

I had to go read your comments from last week since you gave the be kind comment…I kept seeing the name Michelle everywhere–I had to go make sure I hadn’t posted something that ticked everyone off :-)

    • Hi Jenny,
      Thanks for ALL you do!!!
ADD the Target store coupon for Oscar Mayer Hot Dogs $1/2 making each pack .98 each!!!

    • Angela W

Joy- where did you find the Summer is here booklet? I took a copy of the front logo to the customer service desk and they couldn’t find it. Or the Family is it’s own reward with the parents and kids around the table making something…

    • Alisha

My Food and Family mag came in plastic. There were 2 pull-out coupons sections inside it.

I believe the Target Pop-tart coupon is for the 12 count.

There is also a $1 off any Oreo foodlion coupon if those are included in the 1.99 sale.

    • Jim

I would like to thank you so much for this site. I have been out of work for a very long time and this site helps our family a great deal. It saddens me to see how so many people take things for granted. As President Bush used to say: “May God bless you and your family.”

    • Susan

I went to Publix Tuesday night and tried to use the Food Lion coupons for the meat. I was told that if I tried to use them I would be committing coupon fraud. I did not argue. I simply said I did not want to do anything wrong and just apologized.

    • There’s a Target coupon for .50/1 Pop Tarts…

      **Jenny Here**
This is for the 12ct just so you know.

    • Nevermind, lol, I see I was late on that one!

    • Misty

      Kraft Barbecue Sauce, at $1.49
-.75/1 Kraft BBQ Sauce SS 5/03 (makes it FREE)
-$1/2 Kraft BBQ Sauce SS 5/03
-$1 off Kraft BBQ Sauce printable (makes it FREE plus overage)

I’m confused. If the item costs $1.49, how is it free after the $1 off coupon? Do I need to combine them?

    • Tara

Hi Misty! Because if it is buy one get one free then that makes it basically .75, then you take off the .75 coupon and it is free!

    • Homer

The BBQ sauce is B1G1 free which means it will ring up half price…75 cents…a dollar off of this is .25 earned toward the rest of your total. And the .75 coupon will make it free without the overage.

    • JEB

It is BOGO, so it will be .75, not $1.49. Then your .75 coupons makes it free.

    • Tara

      You said…

I went to Publix Tuesday night and tried to use the Food Lion coupons for the meat. I was told that if I tried to use them I would be committing coupon fraud. I did not argue. I simply said I did not want to do anything wrong and just apologized.

That is so not true! Publix takes competitor’s coupons that are local to that Publix. Do you have a Food Lion in your area?

    • Becky

I’m having the same issue with a few others on the V8 Fusion coupon. Any suggestions????

    • Kathryn

Just got back from Publix. Spent 35.11 and saved 90.82. Thanks so much for what you do for us!!!!

    • Gail

My Publix will not take food lion house brand coupons for their house brand items either..

    • Sande

Does anyone know where to find Axe Deodorant coupons??

    • Jenn

Hey! Just got back from publix. I spent $22.30 and saved $83.42!! Thanks, Jenny. Also, I noticed on the BOGO kitty litter that there were $2.00 off peelies (although someone had STOLEN the peelies off of some of the containers – shame, shame) which made them $1.49 each – a great price for kitty litter.

    • Amy

      Tara and Susan, post 54

We need to remember that the specific competitor coupons accepted at an individual Publix are determined by the manager at that Publix. It doesn’t matter what the Publix down the street or in the next town allows. That manager sets the competitor coupon policy for his/her store. It is his discretion whether or not to allow those FL coupons and we should be respectful of those policies. (I agree calling it “fraud” is completely unwarranted)

    • Kathleen, Central FL

Just got back from my wkly Publix trip. I am in FL so my weekly cycle ends today. I love looking at the deals you post for next week, then I can decide what to wait to buy.

At my store, they had all the coupon books I’d been reading about in the carousel at the store front AND they had $ off Q’s taped to the McCormick grill spices/Lawry’s marinades and some others. I was so excited, I bought extra.

In two short weeks, I made friends with my cashier (will have to write a note about her and the bagger :) ). She told me that some of the Ken’s salad spritzers were in the clearance sect and I should ALWAYS check that first.
I have spent less than I saved and have a ton of food products! And oh yeah, the bragging rights, too!

I can’t say it enough times: THANK YOU JENNY!!!

    • Jenn

I am in Greenville, SC and all of the Publix around here vary on what Competitor coupons they will accept. I always call ahead to see if anything has changed, which it seems to do quite often :(

    • Heather K

Hi, I saw someone else asked this, too…does anyone know what the “Family is it’s own reward” booklet is & where I can find it? I asked 2 Publix’s yesterday and no one knew. Thanks a bunch!

    • Dianne

I bought two Philly cream cheese (spinach & artichoke) using the Publix B1G1 Q and the Kraft $1/2 Q with no problem. It was my first time purchasing this item, and I was very satisfied with it. I will definitely be purchasing this again, which is probably why manufacturers issue such good coupons a lot of times anyway, so it is a win-win situation. Hope your store does the same and you enjoy it as much as I did.

    • Joy

If you live in Florida, you need to use TWO coupons to make two FREE. If you live elsewhere, BOGO’s ring up half price. Make sense?

    • Joy

Angela, I found “Summer is Here” in the turnstile up front. I can’t find the “Family is its own Reward” book though! :-( I so wish for some $1.50 off Breyers coupons!!! Not all Publix get all the books it seems.

    • Joy

      UPDATE to Comment #19:

Unfortunately the $3 peelies are expired (4/30) Bummer! Sorry if anyone got their hopes up and ran out the door like I did. ;-)

Still makes a good deal without the $3 coupon if you need pork anyways or if you actually use charcoal!

    • lynn

thank you dianne will give it a try with the bageles being on sale nice to know the cream cheese is good our sale here doesnt start til thurs will let you know how it works out for me

    • Joy

I have donated them at my local elderly care services center.

I usually do wait for them to be free plus ECB’s or RR’s, but I have to say that I’ve never seen them for that particular one. If the q is expiring soon, I’d use it. Otherwise, I’d probably hang on to it and see if another deal might come up.

    • jennifer

If the heluva good dips are $2 how are they free with $.50 coupon?

    • Molly

It’s BOGO so it will ring up a dollar, then the coupon will double making it free.

    • lynn

jenniferin some states not florida they double the coupons so that .50 cent coupons is doubled to a 1.00 coupon

    • I found some Fire up the Grill flyers about a month ago with a coupon on it for $3/1 pork wyb Kingsford 13.5lb or larger- you could use this with the $6 grill coupon, the $3/1 Kingsford coupon found in one of the books (can’t remember? someone sent me a couple) and then your qualifying item. For me, that Fire Up the Grill flyer also had $1/1 Glad food storage product, so a free cling wrap.

    • Alicia

Does anyone remember the insert type and date for the Wholly Guacamole / Salsa coupons that were BOGO and $3 off your favorite chips? (Not the BOGO and $1 from just this past Sunday.)
My Publix let me use BOGO, $1 and 2 free chips coupons to get 2 guacamoles and 2 bags of tortilla chips for .09! I’d like to repeat for the Memorial Day weekend company, but I can’t seem to figure out if I have any more of the coupons.
Thanks for your help everyone and as always, thanks Jenny! Had a tremendous week at Publix, spent around $70 in 3 trips and saved over $270 with luxury items like new makeup :)

    • lynn

stayfree has a pritable 1.00 off any product coupon

    • Lynn

Hi there Jenny! Thanks for another great listing of the deals!

I bought Eggos last week with my coupons (6 boxes of them!). Will Publix price match as they’re buy 1 get 1 this week (I can’t recall if they were last week – my memory’s just not that good!). If they were here locally (I have the ad at home and I’ll double check my receipt tonight as well), can I just take the receipt back and they’ll adjust accordingly?? I took them out of the boxes so everything would fit in the freezer so it’s not like I can take them back if they won’t adjust.

    • Susan

      Hey Tara and Amy

Thanks for responding. I did ask if they take Food Lion coupons and they said yes. I then showed them the coupons I had and that is when they said I could not use them that it would be fraud. Like I said, I did not argue I just said I wanted to check first because I did not want to do anything “wrong”. But they do take Food Lion coupons. He told me they would not take the meat coupons because that is fraud.

    • Becky

Hi. I was wondering…our Publix said today that they are working on “redoing” their coupon policy because they are losing so much money. Has anyone else heard of this or what exactly they are going to change?

    • Glenda

Will the Cole’s Garlic Bread coupon double even though it says “Do not Double or Triple”?

    • lynn

hey in the yellow advantage buy flier there is a publix coupon for buy 2 dr peppers get one free if i m right the deal with the sale at buy 4 get one free if you combine the coupon would it not be buy 4 Dr peppers get 3 free i think this would work but our sale doesnt start till thurs any input on this deal i would be grateful for thanks

    • Laura

i just finished getting my list ready and all of the coupons. as i was marking down how many of each item to get, i noticed that one of the coupons i JUST printed out is expired. i started looking at the others i’d printed out and four are expired. @_@ should i even try them?

      Contessa Shrimp – exp 5/31
      Mueller’s Pasta – exp 6/14
Heluva Good Dip – exp 6/19
      Planter’s Nuts – exp 6/19

      • Jenny

From the looks of those dates they are all still good. Maybe you are like me and never know what day it is but we are still in May :)

    • are the Helluva dips $1 or $2, if they are $2, then they would be $1 after coupon and not free. I can’t see the ad, so can you confirm if the price is $1 or $2?

    • Megan Martin

Lynn- Here in Atlanta the buy 4 12 packs get 1 free was last week (ended yesterday). On Sunday, I purchased 5 at $3 each and got 2 free using the coupon from the advantage buy flier and the 1 free from the advertised special: Buy 4 get 1 free.” 5 12 packs for $9 was a great price for me!!

    • Nevermind I see, they are BOGO. Thanks!

    • Learning2CouponFL

I checked 4 Publix locations last week and I couldn’t find the “Family Is It’s Own Reward” Booklet but when I went shopping last night they had appeared in the turning rack in the lobby, so don’t give up if you haven’t found them yet. They’re only about the size of a piece of paper folded in half and mixed in with all the other pamphlets so they would be easy to miss.

I’m not sure what part of Florida you’re planning to visit, but here in Central Florida we don’t have very many different grocery-only stores. Publix’s biggest competitor is probably Winn-Dixie, but I’ve found their prices to be higher than Publix’s, except sometimes on ground beef (and their stores don’t feel as clean and they don’t have nearly as good of service in my opinion.) There are a few Alberstson’s left (most closed) and here and there is a Sweetbay or Aldi. None of our stores double coupons except occasionally K-Mart (and I’ve never seen a Super K-Mart with a full sized grocery section.)
I’m sure you already know from reading Southern Savers that our BOGO items ring up with one at full price and one free so you have to buy two and use two coupons to get the after coupon prices listed here.

    • lynn

that is a great price and with it being a big cook out weekend just hope everyone likes dr pepper

    • Megan Martin

Lynn- LOL! I thought the same thing. We have some workers at my house digging a drain and I have offered them so much Dr. Pepper that they are now requesting water!

    • thriftygrenadian

At which publlix did you get the “Family Is It’s Own Reward” booklet. I checked 4 stores by the airport and none had it.

Also, has anybody heard that Publix would not be stacking competitor and manufactured coupons anymore? I went today to do the Nabisco deal from last weekend and I was told that I could not use the target coupons with the manufacture Qs.

    • lynn

lol gotta love our publix deals thanks megan for the 411 will be at publix as soon as i get the kids off to school

    • jen

fyi the bic all purpose lighters had a peelie for 1.00 off of charcoal. if anyone still has the coupons or the one in duncan still has them on the top shelf…

    • ChristinaD

This is in response to a few different posts. Someone mentioned the Wholly Salsa deal. Well, I did it twice this past weekend at Bloom: I bought 4 Wholly Salsas, used two BOGO coupons, 2 $1 off coupons, 4 FREE BAG OF CHIPS WYB Wholly Salsa coupons, and I chose Snyders Tortilla chips because they had peelies on them for $2 off Beef WYB two bags of Snyders chips…. so, I ended up getting 4 salsas, 4 bags of chips and two small packs of steaks for $4!!!!! I repeated it the next time I went in and it worked like a charm! I even got overage on the chips because they were only $2.69 apiece.

On another topic: has anyone noticed that the Edy’s FLIP actually says “Eddy’s Ice Cream”. Do you think that it would be denied based on it’s misspelling?

To Susan, it sounds like the person who said that about coupon fraud was just making up rules willy nilly. I’ve run into some cashiers who made up crazy rules. One cashier told me I couldn’t use more than one Jiffy coupon because it stated “limit one coupon per PURCHASE”. I tried to explain that almost every coupon says those words, but to no avail. Oh well.

    • Jenn

Our Publix had coupons for free hot dog buns on the BOGO Oscar Meyer Hot dogs **Bonus!!!!**

    • lynn

can any one recomend where t go for sweet bay and wn dixie match ups publix deals are the only grocery store deals i can use here so if you could recomend something i would be thankful

    • Lynn,

Yes the deal on the Dr. Pepper should work if it is included in the sales. You buy 7 get three free. So 7 12 packs for 12.00. HTH

    • Where do you find the Contessa and Cole’s garlic bread Coupons?

    • Fabiola

where can I find the “Family Is It’s Own Reward” Booklet??

      Thanks :())

    • Lana

The Nabisco cookies are in red packages and do not include Oreos. We bought them BOGO at BiLo about a month agol All that we tried were really good except the lemon ones and they were so weird that we threw them away. The French Vanilla sandwich cookies are heavenly and addictive!

    • Laura

can you see how red my face is from where you are? yeah.. major red. *^_^* i had to leave before i got a reply here, so i took the coupons in question to the help desk. the manager pointed out that they weren’t expired and i just had my dates mixed up.

even better, i discovered that the publix’s in my county don’t change their sales until tomorrow! i was sooooooooo confused about why nothing was on sale that was supposed to be. >_< i put everything back and will try again tomorrow. oi!

    • Alisha

I’m not sure if the coupon policy is changing, but my sister and I visited our Publix on separate occasions (with different cashiers) and both times our coupons (both manufacturers and competitors) were manually adjusted so as to not give overage.

    • Kareen

Not sure if any posted this yet if so..then just disregard…there is also a 1/2 coupon with the TARGET printables which would make them even cheaper, .20each!!!

    • Tina

Laney, I’m not sure anyone ever answered your question about Target coupons. Go to Target.com and scroll down to the bottom of the page. There are several columns of links and one of them is “grocery coupons”.

    • joei

I don’t remember the exact week the wholly Q came in. Late march early April. If you have another one use it with BOGO chips for a better deal. We have so much guacamole in our freezer now.

    • elaine

I always thought in FL you could only buy one of the BOGO and get the sale price, but not so, I bought 1 Ritz today and paid full price!

    • Christine

The VistaLakes (chickasaw and lee vista) Publix has the “Family is it’s Own Reward”. There was some there on Tuesday. Good luck! Have you found any “Summer is Here”?

    • sjones

Do you actually have to have the coupon from the store add to get the free milk when you buy 3 boxes of cereal? Or will they honor it if you say you know about the deal?

    • Kim

The only policy changes I am aware of are as follows:

they are not supposed to take the $ of $ order coupons from other stores. Some stores have started this some have not. That comes from a publix employee.

The second I learned by reading the lastest publix coupons. The coupons state that no overage is allowed. So if you get overage from stacking, they will adjust the publix coupon down. If the item is less than the value of a publix coupon they will adjust it down. Again application of this has been sporadic.

Also, please be considerate of both others and Publix employees when using coupons that have overage. If you “gorge” on the “deal”, then other couponers cannot get some. And while getting rainchecks is good, please don’t complain to corporate/management about something being out of stock when you are “gorging” on a deal. I know most here wouldn’t do this, but please make sure that if you share the deal info with someone that they have the same respect. It is stuff like that which calls excessive attention to it and causes policy changes.

I am Not a publix employee, just a couponer who has seen this happen.

    • Cori

Publix in Greenville, specifically Taylors and Furman area, do NOT accept Target coupons. They only accept grocery store competitor coupons. =(

    • Laura

Might be a dumb question, but has anyone noticed that the Edy’s FL coupon spells it Eddy’s? Think this will be a problem?

    • Candice

Sorry to be repetive, but can someone explain how curlys chicken is $1.84?

I see that its buy one get one free.
and you get 2 so you use 2 coupons.
that would be $2.00 off the 5.69, but your getting 2. so that would be $3.69 / 2 which is $1.84

      OOOOOO I understand!!!!!!
so Publix will let you use a coupon on a buy one get one free???

Curly’s Chicken or Pork with BBQ Sauce, 18 oz, at $5.69
-$1 off Curly’s product printable (makes it $1.84 ea)

    • Jess

Anyone figured out which paper the Wholly Coupon was in?

      • Jenny

Buy One Wholly Guac Get (1) Bag of Chips FREE SS 4/19
Buy One Wholly Guac get (1) Salsa FREE SS 5/17
-$1 off Wholly Guac SS 4/26, 5/17 or printable

        Hope that helps!

    • tonya

    • Teri

About the raincheck policy, one of the managers at my Publix said they expire after 10 days.

    • Jess

      Thanks Jenny!

    • Sharon

New to the site and loving it!

What’s the $120 Rebate booklet mentioned in some of the deals above? Is this something I can still get somewhere?

Thanks for all the tips. Hope to contribute some of my own, soon!

      Athens, GA

    • thriftygrenadian

No, I went there today and they didn’t have any. The only ones I found were the “live well, feel beautiful” and the “save money, save the planet”. One of the assistants help me look for it but we couldn’t find it.

Did you try to do the Nabisco deal at that publix?

    • Emily

Anyone have any luck with the $2.00 V8 coupon yet?

    • Susanna

Jenny, you are awesome, as always – thanks for all of your hard work :-)

    • Nickie

After using Rite Aid coupons last week, this week my Publix says they no longer take them. I think it is because Rite Aid is going out of business. I haven’t made it to Rite Aid yet but if they close down this week will they still honor the rebates?

    • Misty

      Thanks for the quick responses!

    • Mina

The store (wonderful store!) on Hwy 6 did not have the Philly cream cheese spreads designated in the coupon. They don’t even have a shelf space designated for them. There was no problem with the FLIP writer not knowing how to spell Edy’s correctly.

The Fusion q site used to print. Sounds like they are having technical difficulties now. I printed mine some weeks ago. I used one when they were on sale a WAGs, and decided not to use the others. I was actually disappointed because it felt like I’d been waiting forever for that drink to go on sale in order to try it. The taste is okay, but not a hit with the family the way some others are. They LOVE the Splash, and surprised me by REALLY liking all the cranberry juices.

This week was the first time I’ve ever used any FLIPs at Publix, even though this area is blanketed with Food Lion stores. The only two I used were the $1/$5 beef and the “Eddy’s” ice cream. Neither was considered a problem.

I’ve been checking with various Customer Service desks around here about the Family is Its Own Reward booklet. I know that the city stores had them early last week. I’ve been told that not all stores receive booklets at the same time. It may be that the stores with the most business receive them first, or that different areas receive them on different timetables. It sure would have nice to have had those around for the BOGO’s on Breyer’s and Lipton. Those who did are lucky!

I have no problem with stores not taking Target or drugstore q’s because they aren’t supermarkets.

    • Heads-up, my Publix has a special- the Danimals smoothie drinks are marked 2/2.49 and there are $1/1 peelies on them!

    • Samantha

Where do I get the “FAmily is it’s own reward” booklet?

    • Not sure it this has been mentioned:
Blinkies found in Publix on 5/20:

      $1.00 off any two 46oz V8 or V8 Fusion

$1.00 off any one 10-pack mini bags of Orville Redenbacher’s Popping corn (If these are included in the BOGO)

Thanks for all the hard work you do to help us save money!

    • Amy

Anyone in Columbia, SC seen the “Family Is It’s Own Reward” booklet?

    • lynn

v8 fusion is working this morning but it is no longer a 2.00 coupon it has been chamged to a 1.00 coupon bummer

    • lynn

just wanted to say thank you jenny as always for all your hard work

    • Jenny,

Thank you so much for your hard work. I come every week, but never comment. . .I should tell you thanks more often! Last week I got $200 worth of groceries and paid only $50!

PS LOVE your comment about peelie stealers. My friends and I have an ongoing disagreement about the ethics of stealing coupons! I have to actually NOT go to the same store as my friends b/c I know they would have taken everything and the people behind them are just screwed! Thankfully, I have found a GREAT publix that is well organized AND takes both Food Lion and Target coupons!

    • Amy – I found the Family is it’s own reward booklet at Gervais Publix on May 11 and Rosewood Publix on May 13th. Never saw any put out at the other stores… maybe they haven’t gotten them yet? Harbison has the Summer Savings booklet right now.

    • Emily

Does anyone know if the Kraft Philadelphia cream cheese for $1.25 is just the kind in the tub, or does it include the 8 oz. bricks too? I am needing some for Memorial Day baking, so I’m hopeful! :)

On another note, if they’re not on the sale, does anyone use the tub kind to bake with? I’m making peanut butter pies…

Thanks for any advice you can give! :)

    • lynn

i ahve used them to mak cheese cake

    • Deirdre

Greenville, SC~ Publix on Woodruff Road doesn’t accept Target coupons.

    • gwen

      question about the huggies deal:

shopping at publix, I used the instore coupon, manufacturer coupon and the FL store coupon. The cashier gave me such a hard time and informed I could only use one coupon. What do I do if I get this type of response with using all three coupons?

    • Heather

Columbia, SC–Publix on Hardscrabble Rd. would not accept Target coupons, either. The cashier (who spoke to the manager) said it must be a regular grocery store, like Food Lion or Bi-Lo.

    • What does “in ad coupon” mean? For example, the free milk wyb 3 cereals with the “in ad coupon”?

    • In means you find the coupon in the ad (flyer) for this week!

For those of you with bloom in your area. There is a printable $10/$40 competitor coupon you can use!!

    • Melissa

I am fairly new at this, so can anyone please help?
I am having trouble understanding deals like the one I copied and pasted below:

      Cole’s Garlic Bread, at $2.79
-.50/1 Cole’s Bread printable (makes it .39¢ ea)

      * I am thinking if it is $2.79 and the coupon is doubled to $1 off then the item is still $1.79.
      * How can this item be $0.39????????

      Please help! thanks :)

    • kathyctts

I am using firefox, and got the V8 Coupon to print without a problem. It is $1 off, not $2.

    • Jaclyn

I went to Publix this morning. I was just looking at my receipt and noticed the Phil cream cheese bricks rang up $1.59 each. I thought they were on sale with the tubs. I guess I should have paid closer attention.

    • Kim Austin

Just wanted to let everyone know, My (NE Florida) Publix let me know they do accept EXPIRED publix coupons!!!!!! Opens up a whole new door for me!!!!! YAY!!!!!

Well Columbia, SC area couponers I decided to call a bunch of stores and ask if they take Target coupons.

Here are the stores in the Columbia, SC area that definately do not:
“Lexington Place” 100 Old Cherokee Road, “Columbia Station” 150 Harbison Blvd, “Gervais Place” 501 Gervais St, “Murray Landing” 2732 N. Lake Drive, “Kennerly Crossing” 7320 Broad River Rd., “Rosewood Shopping Center” 2800 Rosewood Drive, “Trenholm Plaza” 4340 Forrest Drive
I am NOT complaining that our stores don’t take Target I am so happy that they take any competitor. I am just passing this along so that others know and don’t plan to use coupons that are then rejected.

Thank you Jenny for posting this week’s deals. I am SO excited about all the great cookout bargains. I am throwing a 30th birthday party for my husband in August so it is time to start planning and stocking the freezer and pantry with goodies. :-)

    • Emily

Thanks, Jaclyn. Where I am the regular price on those bricks at Publix are $1.89! yuck!
Thinking maybe I can use the tub cream cheese… the pie just mixes cream cheese, peanut butter, and Cool Whip… Might make it easier to mix!

    • David

I too just noticed that the Food Lion coupon for Edy’s ice cream reads “Eddy’s”. Is this a typo? Also, I thought Publix only accepted competitor’s coupons for house brand items, and Edy’s is not a house brand.

      Any thoughts?

      • Jenny

Publix will accept a competitor coupon for any item that they sell. So if your store carries Edy’s then you are set! They will also accept a competitor coupon for another grocery store’s house brand. (If they try to say no then emphasize that what is more of a competitor to them? Not only a different store but a product that is competing specifically with their brand)

    • David

great! thanks for the info, Jenny!

    • Elizabeth

Did I see a sign up at my store for an Advantage buy coupon, something like $1 off when you buy Hunts Ketchup and Gulden’s mustard? I looked back at the advantage buy posts and didn’t see it. Aren’t there some Gulden’s coupons from recent inserts? I have a FREE KETCHUP coupon, which could equal free ketchup and mustard!!

    • KATIE

Woo-Hoo! My excitement with shopping at Publix has been renewed this week! I went today and bought $118 worth of groceries and only spent $23 OOP!!! That is over 80% worth of savings! And, to make it even better I did not have one single coupon issue at checkout!!! My very friendly cashier said that she had never seen anyone save that much money before!

I just wanted to make sure that I told you THANK YOU for all of the hard work that you do to keep this site running. I wouldn’t be able to save this kind of money without you!

    • Christine

thriftygrenadian! Are you from Grenada? Sorry to hear you missed the “Family” book at the Vista Lakes! There is a big-time coupon crazy person in that area- eats all the books, steals peelies and goes overboard on deals! Have you tried the Lake Nona Publix on Narcoossee? They have the “Summer is Here” and “Summer Savings” book! Let me know if you find one!
I usually shop at either Lake Nona or Vista Lakes-I like Vista Lakes the best and have never had a problem there. One time, I saved around $100 dollars on the total and the cashier started waving it around, yelling to the other customers, telling them how much I saved and spent and how awesome Publix is-I was completely red but she is one of my favorite cashiers now!!!
I do not have any of the B1G1 Q’s for the nabisco deal. We are kind of crackered up here at the moment-the ritz deals last week!
Do you need any baby, catfood or dogfood Q’s?

    • gretchen

I just had a great day at Publix, spent 35 and saved 67! The only downer is that the cashier (customer service manager, very sweet) would not accept all the Qs involved in the Kingsford deal. She would only give me the 6 dollar coupon off the pork, and would not accept any other Qs in that scenario. I think she could have given me two of those since they were manufacturer coupons, but I didn’t want to argue with her.
Any thoughts on that? How’s everyone else working out on that deal? I was thinking of trying it at Kroger to see if they would let me use more than one of the Qs!

    • Ruth

Jenny: just wanted to let you know that my MOST favorite part of your site is that wonderful math you do for us in the parentheses. (makes it $ ). Saves my poor brain so much math!
      You are a gem.

    • Learning2CouponFL

The “Family Is It’s Own Reward” booklet appeared at the Champion’s Gate Publix near I-4 (pretty far from the airport if you don’t have another reason to be out that way.)
Previously I checked 3 Publixs in the Winter Park area and none had it. But I haven’t been back to any of them since I found the coupons at the other store so they might have them by now.

      I haven’t found a website that does Sweet Bay match-ups yet. SwagGrabber.com does Winn-Dixie.

Florida doesn’t work like the other areas do. The BOGO sales here work as the name implies, the first one rings up full price and the second is free. I’m used to that but I wish we got the Mystery Penny promotion.

    • Stacey

I found a rebate at Food Lion (which was NOT store specific!) for $20 off meat, pork, chicken or seafood, wyb Kingsford Charcoal AND a 12pk of Budwiser brand beer. Helps if you are a beer drinker, which I’m not, but I’m combining that with the $6 off pork coupon, $3 off Kingsford Charcoal coupon, FREE KC masterpiece bbq coupon- Those 3 things along with lots more (overage and $5/$25 Walgreens coupon) cost me about $3 today. The rest of the meat I got discounted at Food Lion and Harris Teeter, and I bought beer with a CVS gift card! All in all, I will end up paying less than $20 for everything anyways, and get $20 back!

    • Joy

The coupon you are talking about for $1 off Hunt’s ketchup and Gulden Mustard is actually a manuf coupon rather than a store coupon, so you wouldn’t be able to combine it with your other coupons.

    • Joy

You should have definately been able to use other coupons with that deal! The $6 is off Pork, the $3 is off Charcoal and if you had a coupon for something else like the bbq sauce or glad. I might go back, ask at customer service and get reimbursed for the coupons she wouldn’t let you use.

    • LMM

Well, just saved $72 at Publix and spent $62!!! I like getting $135 in groceries for 60-70% off!

    • MiniMidgMom

For the question about donating the glucometer – I would give it to a domestic abuse (battered women’s shelter). Many of the women and their children go there on an emergency basis without packing a bag, and many of the shelters communicate amongst themselves so if one has a need another might be able to supply it from their donations.

    • MiniMidgMom

Oh, and any help with the Aunt J syrup coupon? I’m mad at myself, I didn’t print it when I had the chance. I need to get over my attitude towards coupons that make you buy two!

    • Tiffani

Jenny, at my Publix there is a blinkie machine by the Aunt Jemima breakfast meals for $1/4.

    • thriftygrenadian

Yes I am from Grenada(Born and raise). Actually, the cashier was apologizing because she said its a new policy they had in place. I didn’t stress it because I had save over $60 and I could go to target or use them on the wheat thins deal this week (I have the free wheat thins Q). I do need some baby food Qs but unfortunately I don’t have any cats or dogs. I think I saw your email in the other post so I will email you.

Yeah that is a little far for me but I have to go to the Disney area this weekend so for sure I will be checking some of the Publix on the way. Yeah I AM SO ADDICTED!!!

    • Kay

For those asking about the $2 V8 coupon…I e-mailed them yesterday about it and they have fixed the issue but now the coupon is for $1

    • lynn

my publix will take this Food Lion coupon for the Publix Brand Chips making these chips only $1 per bag. they are just as good as the name brand, too. :) Enjoy!

thank you, Jenny! this has been so much fun!

    • Katherine

Just wanted to give a HUGE thank you to Jenny for this FABULOUS site!!! My Publix allows overages so I got $180 worth of groceries for only $23.88!!!!!

    • rebecca

Just came from publix, and I had ear to ear smile (could not hide it either). I spent 28.71 and saved $102 and some change. I had maaaaany coupons and $5 off wyb$25 from wallgreen. I just want to thank you for this awesome web site, and I thank God that I can save money on grocery bills!!

    • Elaine

In response to Deirdre, I was just at Greenville Publix on Woodruff road today (not the one at Five Forks) and asked the MOD before shopping and she said they take the Target coupons – I had no problems. They also still take Food Lion last I tried – I saved $110 on my order – spent about $23 or something! Now I just have to find room for it all!

    • Stacey

If anyone has a rain check on the Bic lighters from last week I found $1 off charcoal peelies on them. I used that with the Kingsford deal for BBQ sauce and pork. I spent about $6.50 for the charcoal, pork and BBQ sauce! Spent a total of $25 and saved $90. And that was with two big bags of store brand chocolate chips that weren’t on sale. A great shopping trip!

The Publix in Spartanburg, SC takes Food Lion and Target coupons. They have great customer service!! I love that store!

    • Meredith

Thanks so much for your hard work that goes into finding all the deals for us. Made a trip to Publix this morning and spent 9.75 and saved a whopping 100.36. I couldn’t believe it. For others in Birmingham area–Riverchase Publix no longer accepts Target or Walgreens coupons–bummer. Lee Branch still does-

Whole foods $5 off coupon link

    • Heather

My Publix will not take Target coupons. I was told it was a new policy. Anyone else experience this?

    • Shopped Publix this morning,,, they are no longer taking the Target coupons. (Columbia, SC Two Notch road)

    • jennifer

might have already been addressed but in columbia planters nuts are 2 for $6 not $5.

    • Amy

At the Lexington, SC Publix this morning, my cashier hit his “do not double” button for the coupons that had this written on them. This included Helluva dip and Cole’s garlic bread. Never had that happen before.

    • Hi. I’m new to this and I’m learning how it works. I’ve always been one who just bought store brand everything from Walmart, but I’m learning this is WAY better! I think my 1st shop will be Sat. night. I was wondering why there are coupons (mainly from SS) that have an expired date, yet you have them posted to use for this week. Does Publix take expired coupons? Also, what does a “rain check” mean at Publix? Thank you so much for doing this. I thought I was as cheap as they come. I can’t wait to learn this!!

      • Jenny

If anything is expired, you can’t use it at Publix. I try to catch any expiration issues when I post it and let you know if it is not going to be good all week. Let me know if there are others though!

    • Becca

All three of my Publixes near my home have tightened their coupon policies here in Northeast GA. They will only take major grocery store competitors — like Kroger and Ingles. No more Food Lion or Target. I am bummed because I was really saving some money with those.

It seems like this happened all at the same time with all three of them. Has anyone else experienced this?

    • Holly

Meredith, the Trussville store took Target Coupons on Tuesday when I went.

    • JEB

I had another pleasant shopping trip at Lexington, SC Publix today. They have never refused my coupons, even when I stacked. My cashier was Deenie and she bragged to the bag boy that I saved more than I spent. I spent $14 and saved $22. Thanks Jenny!

    • HELP…the coupon printer on my computer has stopped working. I have tried to reinstall but every time there is an error message. I have tried everything including the suggestions from coupons.com. Does anyone know about the coupon printer in detail or know info for a technician that could help??

    • Kelly

I think that if you’re going to ask folks to keep their comments “focused and kind” you should ensure that you are setting the example by being careful about your comments (i.e. calling people who take peelies “stealers).” This kind of comment can promote hostility among fellow couponers.

There are many gray areas in couponing and we should all respect each other’s differences. I can assure you that there are ethical folks on both sides of this debate.

    • Kate

Does anyone in the birmingham, al area know which publix stores still take the target, food lion and walgreens coupons. I was at my publix in Pelham off Hwy. 52 and they stated they no longet take them. Thanks for all your hard work Jenny!

    • Kim

They’re not peelie “borrowers!” What other adjective would you use to describe them, Kelly?

Spent $21 at Publix, saved $87.27!!! Thank you for all your hard work, Jenny! You have made shopping a pleasure! (little Publix plug ;-)

    • Mina

We have a few Dr. Pepper aficionados around here. I heard the deal on them was good in some areas, but didn’t realize just how good! It IS distributed by Pepsi here, and our Publix are doing their promo w/Pepsi – $3ea + Buy 4 Get the 5th free. Used the Advantage Buy q’s with them (Buy 2/Get 1) AND the cartons I purchased had $2/2 manufacturer peelies on them. I bought 10 for $5, and went back later (peelie snatchers had grabbed all peelies, but I knew that would happen) and used my 5 remaining peelies for a second batch of 10. I still have all the $1/1 inside the cartons of cherry Dr Pepper if I can justify taking all those drinks out of their cases before the sale is over. That’s not gonna happen.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen brand name drinks at 50 cents a carton before! WOOT! We now have 20 12 packs of Dr. Pepper. That’s a three week supply of soft drinks in moderate weather. Less than a 2 week supply in HOT weather. Oh, well. It seems like a lot when I see them all at one time.

    • Mina

Psst. Even though I used the phrase “peelie snatchers”, I myself do grab a single one, sometimes two, when there are lots left for those who want to buy that product right then, AND I know that it’s something that I’ll be coming back to buy. I particularly do this when the peelie says something to the effect of “ANY such and such product” and is attached to a different “flavor” than the one I want. I like to think that Jenny uses that phrase to describe people who grab them willy nilly without caring whether they leave any for other shoppers.

So, I’m small scale guilty, but figure that I’m using them the way the manufacturer hoped – as an enticement to purchase their product for personal use and not for resale of the item or to trade for something else.

    • Paula

Here is Publix Coupon Policy that you will get if you call Corporate. If your store accepts expired coupons than consider yourself lucky, it is policy that they don’t. Again, it is up to the store manager as to what they consider competitors. So if your store does not take Target, Whole Foods, etc.. that does not mean a store down the road or closer to one of those stores won’t. Most managers consider it a competitor if you there is a store within 5 miles. They also say that it must be a “traditional grocery store”. Some managers may (but do not have to) consider a Walgrees, CVS or Rite Aid a competitor. We are also told that Target, Walmart and other Super Stores are also not “traditional” grocery stores.
This also states that Publix accepts up to 2 coupons per item (one store OR competitor coupon and one manufacturers coupon). Not 3, if your store does take 3, then again consider yourself blessed.

The following are general guidelines regarding Publix policy. If there is any doubt, please speak with your store for clarification. Different regions will vary in policy and procedure.

      · Publix allows the use of one manufacturer coupon AND one store coupon per item purchased. This applies to BOGO items as well.

      · Publix accepts competitor coupons. Check with your store to confirm who they consider their competitor.

      · Publix doubles coupons up to and including $0.50. There are no limits to the number of coupons that will double. Only manufacturer coupons will double. Store and competitor coupons will not double. This policy does not apply to Florida—coupons do not double in Florida

      · Publix does not accept expired coupons.

      · The Publix Promise guarantees that if during checkout, the scanned price of an item (excluding alcohol and tobacco products) exceeds the shelf price or advertised price, they will give the customer one of that item free. The remaining items will be charged at the lower price..

      · Publix does accept internet printables (IP’s). Many Publix will not accept IP’s for free items or IP’s over $5 in value.

      · Publix does not limit the number of coupons that can be used per transaction—BUT …after a $50 coupon threshold has been reached, a manager override will be necessary for any additional coupons to be accepted.

      · Publix registers also require that the number of coupons and items purchased be equivalent. If you have more coupons than items, a manger override will be required.

      · During a BOGO sale, you do not have to purchase two items to receive the discount. BOGO items each ring ½ of the regular price. This is not true in Florida—you must purchase both items as the 1st item rings at full price and the 2nd item rings at zero ($0)

      · Publix will gladly give a rain check for any sale item that is not in stock. Some stores will only write RC’s for items in the weekly sales flyer not the Advantage Buy Flyers

      · The penny item coupon is valid for use on Sunday and/or Monday. The actual coupon can be found in the ad located in the Sunday paper (usually on the front cover). Florida does not participate in the penny item promotion.

    • Jenny

Hey Jenny, Your site is awesome, thank you!!!

I have a question about the BOGO Artistan coupon. Those kind get me confused! I have 4 coupons, Can I get 4 boxes for free, or do I have to buy 4 and get 4 free? And it says only 1 coupon per transaction so do I need to split up my transactions?

      thanks so much,

    • JMR

The Publix on Highway 150 in Hoover (Birmingham) takes the Target coupons–as of last week anyway.

    • jennifer

if your store has the dr pepper on sale, there is not only an adv buy coupon but a fl as well.

    • jennifer

publix buns on sale for .99 and fl has coupons.

    • Tiffany

Jenny thank you so much for all your hard work! This site is such a blessing! I have a question, I have been getting frustrated b/c when it says to pull a coupon I do not have that coupon. For exmaple, there was a not a coupon for dial or coast soap in my SS 5/17. This happened on 4 different products for this week. I called my sister b/c I thought maybe I messed up but it was the same with her. I am in Summerville…are the coupons that you get in your paper suppose to be different from the ones I get? Thank you so much for your help!!

    • Nicole

I went to Publix yesterday and while I did awsome (spent $15.75, saved $78.59) I could have done better. My cashier wouldn’t take the FL Edy’s coupon because it said only good at Food Lion. She was also paying real close attention to the coupons and ringing them up while ringing up the products, instead of after ringing up all of the product. She wouldn’t let me use about $5 worth of competitor’s coupons that I should have been able to use because it would have made the product free, or have overage.

    • Linda

I am in Summerville as well and have had the same issue on several occasions. It’s frusterating. One thing I have found that helps is to print any and all coupons I come across online and I recently discovered that the Pig has fantastic catalina Q’s. If you go to the one in downtown summerville and buy something small (I usually get my pork there because they have great sales on it), they normally have a pile of catalina Q’s nobody wanted at the checkout. The other day I was looking through them (didn’t want to be greedy) and the cashier told me I could take them all! There were about 20 of them, including several B1G1 Kraft dressing Q that I will use at Publix this week!Hope this helps!

    • Tiffany,
Each week I compare my coupon inserts to the insert previews each week and have find that several coupons are different, the preview has coupons I don’t have or I have coupons the preview do not have. I’ve actually started to compile a list of the coupons I have using the insert preview as a guideline. Anything that does not match up I type in RED so I know that I have something different. HTH

    • Julia

To Dianne with the small pantry…

We had the same problem. I went on our local Craigslist and purchased 2 sets of industrial shelves to put in my garage. One is for paper/cleaning products, the other for long term food storage. Today we bought an upright freezer as we were out of space. We only have 1 car in the garage anymore but who cares? We are saving so much $$$ thanks to Southern Savers!

    • Teri

      Jenny, (Paula too)
I am frustrated with the fact that I can’t figure out a way to make sure they count all my coupons. I have been counting them myself and then I make sure there is the same number but then when its not the right number, they get frustrated too. Today I had 17 q’s and 3 didn’t get counted. After telling them about it, and me trying to be kind” and letting them do a recount, I noticed they still left off a $2. Other than memorizing my q’s, I don’t know what to do. The other day, it was a $5 q they left off. I don’t want to be picky since they are very generous with their allowance of q’s. How do you make sure to get credit for all your q’s?

One more question. I also on the other hand feel a little guilty. I just bought $40 worth of groceries (not counting all the BOGO’s and sale) and paid less than $6 but used a $10 q from Bloom, $4 in other competitor q’s, plus $5 in Publix q’s. Are they even making any money when I come in there? So, on the one hand I plan and work to coordinate all of this to make it as cheap (out of necessity) as possible so I’d like to be credited for all of it, but then I feel like I am a hinderance to them because I use so many competitor and Publix q’s.
Please comment on both of these.

    • Niki

I love your website and save lots of money each week by coming here first, so thank you.

I did want to let you know that as of this week Publix is no longer accepting Target or Food Lion coupons in the Birmingham, AL area.

      Thanks for your site!

    • Bonnie in ATL

      Hi Teri,
I had coupons “missed” at Kroger and Target this week. Like you, I HATE to be a burden cause we are saving so much, but to me it is more than the $$. Every coupon represents *my time* as well. I sit down each week and plan and clip coupons accordingly. So a missed coupon is $1 … and 15 wasted mins (time away from my kids), plus a lost opportunity because the coupon is now in the store’s register. I have started counting my coupons before handing them to the cashier, and then saying (politely of course) “There should be 22 here” just so we both know how many should ring up. I am not confrontational and would love to hear what other strategies work for others.

    • holly

      Hey Teri,
I know its not a answer from Paula or Jenny but in regards to the last paragraph, I thought the same thing and thought is Publix going to go out of business because I use competitor coupons so much. I tell everyone I know and I am willing to show someone how to save money but I look at it this way. For every 5 people I try to teach how to save money, only 2 out of the 5 will actually try. So, there is alot of people out there who love Publix, and will not take the time we do to save even a dollar unless it is right in front of their face at the given time at check out. So, if you think about the person who doesn’t stock pile like us (which is alot more than the ones who do) and just make a list or buy groceries because they ran out of something, then Publix makes alot of money because their stuff that isn’t on sale is high. Before I learned to stock pile, I couldn’t go to Publix that much because I would walk out spending alot more than I could at Walmart, but I am thankful for Jenny and this site because I love Publix and I can shop there and save now. Hope this helps.

    • Lisa

      Hey Jenny,

When shopping at Publix, will they double a $.50 competitor coupon??

      • Jenny

They will only double a manufacturer coupon. Store and competitor coupons do not double.

    • Sheila

Thank you so much for all your wonderful info. I use this site more than any other. I just wanted to let you know that at my Publix, in McDonough, Ga…on the aisle where the aunt Jemima Breakfast entrees are, there was also a blinkie that has $1.00 off 4. That added to the SS $1/2, made them 14 cents each. Woohoo…I love it. I bought 16, so okay maybe I went a little crazy but what a deal. Thanks so much once again for all your effort, you are making our lives much richer, literally.

      • Jenny

Just so you know for next time, the $1/4 is a manufacturer coupon for 4 items and the $1/2 is a manufacturer coupon for 2 items to use them together you would have need to purchase 6 items. They can’t be stacked together for the same products. Sorry.

    • Paula

Teri, the next time you use coupons at Publix – just ask the cashier to go a little slower in scanning the coupons and watch her/him as they do them. Sometimes they stick together, and sometimes the register doesn’t catch them. They will not mind slowing down a bit to make sure you are happy. Count them as they go over the scanner and watch the register monitor to see them pop up.
Teri and Holly, Publix does loose money on the competitor coupons. But do not worry, Publix makes money overall. If the use of “to many” competitor coupons becomes a problem they will stop taking them. Trust me, they have found ways to make up the loss…..like cutting hours off payroll.

We love to see you save money and I do it myself (that is what lead me here to Southern Savers). Stack those coupons and keep saving money…..DO NOT feel guilty about it (as long as it is done honestly and legit).

    • Paula

You lucked out getting a cashier that wasn’t paying attention to your coupons. Stacking 2 manufacturers coupons (the blinky and the SScoupon) is a no-no on the cashiers part. But you got a great deal, good for you!!

    • JMR

My Publix still had a few Pop Tarts with $.55 peelies on them.

    • shelly

Jenny, is the sale price on the charcoal deal regional? It scans for $10+ at my store and it’s not in my sales paper. (Atlanta area)

Kingsford Charcoal, 12 to 18 lb bag $6.99 ea
Free KC Masterpiece BBQ Sauce wyb any Kingsford Charcoal 9 lbs or larger RP 5/10

-$6 off Pork wyb any Kingsford 13.5 Lbs.+ and (1) other participating product printable

    • Joanne

To niki – I live in Bham too and I used target coupons at the Publix at Trace Crossings yesterday with no problem. I’ve never tried to use Food Lion coupons since we don’t have a Food Lion anywhere close. Which Publix do you shop?

    • Kristen

Just left the Publix at Murray Landing in Columbia. I did GREAT! Spent $83 saved $171!!!!!! Wow! (Plus the cashier missed a $9.99 coupon, so I’ve got to go back about that so it was really like I spent only $73!)

Wanted to share a couple of things:

First, this Publix did accept both the Bloom and Whole Foods coupons. I was shocked, since we don’t have either of those stores anywhere around here. I checked with the manager on the way in and she said “sure!”

Second, there is a “Summer Savings” booklet out that I’ve never seen before. It’s got some good coupons.

Last, a while ago I picked up a couple of coupons for $3 off two Johnson and Johnson products. They were distributed in a dispenser on the aisle. There was a first aid symbol on the coupon, but no where did it say it was limited to first aid products. Today I picked up 4 bath buddies soaps ($1.09 each) and had the cashier check. It worked! I got all 4 free plus overage. Now I wish I had gotten more of those coupons. Darn!

You were right, I guess I was lucky they took it…oops, didn’t mean to do anything wrong. I am loving publix. I spent $26.00 and saved 136.00. I don’t think I bought anything without a coupon. Oh yeah…this is fun.

My neighbor is responsible for putting those IRC (instant rebate coupons) on products at grocery stores and she informed me that the manufacturer’s could care less if you peel the coupon off without buying the item (even on the ones that say “wyb this item). They are just happy that you are purchasing their products in any form.

Given the above scenario, people who pull peelies off without buying the item are not “stealers.” Stealing is defined by the dictionary as follows: “to take (the property of another or others) without permission or right.” If the manufacturer’s don’t mind if a person takes the IRC’s off the product then that person is not stealing.

Incidentally, I saw a display at Publix yesterday where they had a stand of Pepperidge Farm bread and the manufacturer had stuck the IRC’s on the stand AND on the product. I asked my neighbor about this and she again indicated that none of the manufacturer’s are concerned about us taking the peelies off of the products in the store. They just want us to use them to buy product.

Again, there are many gray areas in couponing. Dogmatism is dangerous; just be careful with your opinions.

    • Janel

I am really new to this and I really don’t understand how you are coming up with some of your final prices… can someone please help me understand!! I am so confused!!

      Cole’s Garlic Bread, at $2.79
-.50/1 Cole’s Bread printable (makes it .39¢ ea)

(Even if this coupon was doubled – how does it make it .39 each?)

      Thank you so much!!

    • Jan

The $2.79 is the actual price of the product (off sale price). If it is B1G1, the actual price will be approx. $1.40 then you subtract the Mfr Q that will double. Hope that did not confuse you more.

    • Beth

Publix in the Hermitage, TN area is no longer accepting Target coupons and it is my understanding that this decision was made by the District Manager and the Corporate Office. This new policy may hold true for all Publix, so I would suggest double checking with your local store before using a Target coupon.

    • april k

i really wish i didn’t have to sift through dozens of off-topic and just plain mean comments to get to actual publix couponing tips for this week.

    • There was a peelie last week if anyone got it for $2 off any meat/poultry product when you purchase 2 participating products (kraft mayo, kraft bbq sauce, A-1 sauce, and a few others). This Q works great with the Kraft BBQ sauce and A-1 sauce. I had overage on the bbq sauce I purchased because it was priced a few cents cheaper here.

WOO HOO! I just had a great trip to Publix, spending $40 and saving $110.
I found the summer savings coupon flyer, and a small flyer in the Aprons area with cheese and meat coupons.
Before I started, I asked Customer Service if I could use FL store brand bun coupons and they said yes.
My cart was FULL! We are having guests several times this week. Now I have Hot dogs and buns, sodas, chips and dip, crackers and bagels and cream cheese and Edy’s Ice Cream. Brownie mix too. Whew!

    • Kate

My Publix also has said that their competitor coupon policy will change due to them losing $. I must have caught my cashier on a bad day b/c she wouldn’t use my FL bun q, would only take one Edy’s FL q and only took 1 Denta stix q on the Bogo. She wouldn’t even give me my coupons back that she didn’t take, and scrutinized my CVS ECB’s. She made it look like I was trying to pull one over on Publix and held up my line so there were plenty of people annoyed with me. Grrrrr….I still only spent $30 on a $80 bill….but it’s the additional $6 and change that should have been accepted that burns me up. I think I’m going to go at the same time each week so I can count on my favorite Penny the cashier to ring me up!

    • jessica

had an ok experience at publix tonight. after all of my items were rung up i handed over my coupons and the cashier tells me that there is a $5 limit on printable coupons. well most of my coupons this week were printables. has anyone else heard of this? i am going to call and ask the store manager tomorrow.

they ended up accepting all of them b/c i asked to speak with a manager and they couldn’t find one and i was backing up the only available checkout lane. but she got tired of scanning them at the end and she just mentally added them up and typed in -$7.50. it was all happening so fast that i am not sure if she took in to account that most of them would double up to $1. frustrating!

when i was waiting on the manager that never was found, i asked if it was a corporate policy. the cashier then asked me if i worked for publix. i think she thought i was a secret shopper.

    • seacoastmom

I saw this coupon for $3 off a Coppertone Product on an earlier post
and had planned to go to WM just to get (2)of the Bonus sized kids spray for $7.50 but saw the same item on sale at the S’ville Trolley Rd Publix for $7.49 on Sunday 5/24. Display right inside near cashier station on right side. Yeah! no trip to WM! $4.50 for a bonus sized sun spray is an AWESOME deal!

How is your publix handling the $6.oo off pork Q?

I had the most horrible experience ever at Publix yesterday. I went to the service desk FIRST to get permission to use it the manager of the store yes ok.

Went through the line and even had an assistant manager precede me and tell the cashier it was fine and then when I was done paying I left. Little did the cashier know, that my husband was in line behind me and let’s just say she was not a NICE cashier. I feel horrible!! I don’t think I should have to feel bad about going into that store again.

I just wondered how other stores were handling it EVEN after the manager OK’d it!!!

    • starbucksgirl

Beth, my friend Carissa spoke with the store manager in Hermitage a few days ago after she emailed corporate. The store manager told her that the cashier had been misinformed. They actually do take Target coupons. Call your store manager in Hermitage and tell him that the cashiers are telling everyone that the store is not going to take Target Q’s. It’s just not true. If you have a problem, then email corporate about it on Publix’s website. I’ve spoken with the District Manager in TN and he has indicated that it is up to each individual store to determine who their competitor is; he has not told all of the stores to stop taking Target Q’s.

Kate, the problems that you had at the store should not have happened. While it’s true that they Publix stores only have to take one of the Food Lion Q’s (since that is what is stated on the coupon), they should not have limited your Dentastix (unless the coupon indicated one per transaction). If you have a problem like that again just finish your transaction and go to the customer service desk. The customer service manager needs to be aware that the cashiers are treating their customers this way so that they can rectify the problem.

Jessica, your cashier was confused. Publix’s guideline (they do not have a “policy” per my local district manager) is that they need manager approval on internet coupons over $5.00 in value. The cashier was just confused and thought that the guideline that was sent to them indicated that you could only use $5.00 in internet coupons total. Again, speak with a customer service manager after an experience like this at the customer service desk. They will fix any problems that you had.

Paula, I’m not sure what region you are in, however, I have had an extensive discussion with our district manager in TN and he has unequivocally told me that the pork coupon is just fine to use. I explained the entire deal to him a few months ago so that he would understand it. He is a terrific District Manager and he is very excited about couponers. If you have a problem just email corporate and tell them about your problems and someone will usually call you back.

I just want to encourage all of you that are out there working the deals at Publix. Just keep up the good work and don’t get discouraged. A large part of couponing is communication. Just communicate kindly when you encounter a problem and when in doubt, email corporate. My District Manager said that Publix has seen an increase in the use of coupons during this economy and they want to encourage people to coupon at their store. I told him that I teach couponing classes and that we were pulling people away from Kroger and bringing them almost exclusively to Publix for their main shopping. He was excited about this.

Keep up the good deals everyone!

    • starbucksgirl

Paula, Publix doesn’t actually have a coupon “policy.” They have a set of guidelines. The reason that they don’t have a policy, per my district manager, is because they want to remain flexible so that they can “approve” any deal that they want to. They really want to provide a good customer experience to everyone. Sometimes the cashiers overhear misinformation from a staff member and pretty soon the information that they are telling customers is not accurate (this has happened to me many times). My cashiers all know me now so when they say something that doesn’t sound right I just call the manager over so that their information can be corrected. If I don’t have time to do this I walk over to the customer service desk and talk to the manager so that they will follow up with that cashier. It must be very difficult to train all of your cashiers to be on the same page with your guidelines. Couponing is complex and they need as much help as we do. It is helpful to have a good conversation with your store manager if you have problems so that they can train their cashiers.

FYI…their guideline actually states that internet coupons over $5.00 need manager approval (they do take them….they just need approval).

Jenny- I feel like it would be redundant to thank you every week for your amazing work-but if you are like most people, you probably can’t hear it enough. I get so excited on Wednesdays when your new post goes up and even more so when I leave the store after making my list from your site. I’ve been doing coupons for a little while, but never have I saved as much as I do from your site! Thanks so much for all that you do!

    • Chantelle

My Publix today the cashier took all my Q’s except my V8Fusion printable. She said it was on their list of coupon fraud items! I just told her I was sorry that I printed it online and didn’t intend to fraud anyone. I had to stop at the desk to get a refund from last week’s penny item, which the cashier rang up a full price, and I had a problem last week with the cashier telling me they couldn’t stack a competitor with a manufacturer Q so I didn’t want to ask about the V8 but wanted to let everyone know!

      Target coupons – http://www.afullcup.com

    • Glenda

I had a terrible experience this morning with Publix in Hixson. If I did do something wrong, please let me know. I had 13 Target coupons for the Dixie plates and the cashier told me that I could not use all of them in one transaction. Before anyone says anything, I give the plates to my church for their use, not mine. Did I do anything wrong? Can I not use 13 coupons if I am buying 13 of the Dixie plates?

    • I was shopping at my local Publix and they stop taking competitors that werent local, ex, FL and Target. I switched and started shopping at another Publix in our area. Yesterday when I went to check out they said we cant take FL and Target anymore. The girl that took out my buggy said someone had been making “fake” coupons. I was really upset because my best deals come from these two stores. They said that they will take our local competitors which are Winn Dixie and Brunos, and they dont ever have printable or coupons you can cut. Can they do this?

      • Jenny

There were fake coupons made for Target a number of months ago, someone figured out the coding, but from what I remember that was for toys… in general the coupons aren’t going to scan at Publix anyway so it wouldn’t affect them. The problem comes when folks try to use more competitor coupons than even the original store would allow. Food Lion and Target both allow one like store coupon per transactions. (I.E. only one Edy’s coupon, not 5 Edy’s coupons)

They are allowed to decide who is a competitor for that store though and if you don’t have a FL for 100 miles then they probably wouldn’t be a competitor.

    • Sorry two in a row, I didnt see the first one and did another. Thanks, I am new at this.

    • joei

The target Q’s say one per transaction. However, I had 8 of them yesterday and checked out with the manager. he entered them as one competitor coupon for $8. you can ask the manager and see.

    • Glenda

Thanks. I will talk to the manager. I want to do this the correct way. I did not realize it said that on the coupon. Thanks again.

    • Glenda

Just had a lengthy conversation with the store manager in Hixson and he said they do take more than one Target coupon per transaction. The cashier was misinformed.

    • Amy Edwards

Wow – this week was my best shopping trip yet! I spent $27.65 and saved $97.01!!! Jenny, thanks for the time and effort you put into this blog – it has made living (and eating) on a tight budget SO MUCH EASIER :-)

    • Paula

That Coupon Policy (that is what our heading says) that I posted was sent to us straight from Publix Corporate. It is flexible….up to the managers to change what they want. So you can call it a “guideline” if that makes you happy.
We take the pork coupon as long as it is not a copy (Xerox). I didn’t post anything saying otherwise.

    • starbucksgirl

My Publix allows more than one Food Lion and Target coupon to be used in one transaction. You just need to speak with your manager; they have the flexibility to approve a deal. I always check with them first before a do a deal that is outside of their general guidelines (they do not have a set policy).

Just check w/your manager. It’s worth taking the time to ask. They may say “no” on this deal but they may also say “yes.”

    • Lisa

Ok…so is there an Axe? in RP 4/5? I am finding an Adidas?

    • starbucksgirl

Beth, the name of the manager at the Hermitage Oakwood Commons store that approved the use of Target coupons is Norman. If you have a problem just tell them that Norman said that it was ok (my friend Carissa spoke with him last week on the phone).

Jeff, the manager at the Mt. Juliet store in TN indicated that they do NOT take Target printables.

      Hope that helps.

    • starbucksgirl

I spoke with the District Manager for TN and he corrected me when I used the word “policy.” He told me that Publix does not like to use that word. The District Manager told me it was called a guideline so I’m going to inform others that it is called a guideline since he’s the authority within the company (and I’m not). The reason that this distinction is important is because Publix wants to be able to have the flexibility to “approve” a deal and they don’t want to be held to a “policy.”

The rest of my comments in that post were not directed towards you but were directed to everyone in general that is having problems with misinformation (sorry for the confusion). :)

    • Teresa [QOCD]

Just got in from Publix where I saved $102 and spent $20. Thanks Jenny, my 8 grands are coming next weekend and they will love the chips and dip, popcorn, soda and other items we usually cant afford.
