Working Walgreens.
There really isn’t much to work here, but traveling last week with folks from all over the country I realized that there aren’t CVS’s in every town.  (Here they are on every corner so it’s hard to imagine).  If you had to make a run this week this is an idea of how to roll the deals.

I really don’t think the Dove deal is supposed to work that way. The coupon for the free body mist wyb Dove deodorant says that it excludes travel sizes. I didn’t notice that before I went to Walgreens to try the deal. The cashier pointed it out to me and wouldn’t take the coupon.

Bummer. It would’ve been a nice deal.

    • Question on the Keebler Fudge Stripes, why do you need to buy 5 Keebler items? Would 4 at $2.50 make the $10 required. I am so sorry if this is a lame question….

    • Melissa C.

Michelle, the Body Mist isn’t travel size. The coupon is for the Body Mist. Walgreens is going to get reimbursed for a regular size body mist when they submit the coupon for payment.

It says you get a free body mist wyb deodorant. It doesn’t specify what size deodorant you have to buy to get the free body mist.

Your cashier interpreted the coupon the way she wanted to, which was wrong.

    • Cynthia B.

I just got back from Walgreens and boy am I upset. I tried to use the $2.00 coupon to purchase the Dry Idea deoderant and it wouldn’t print a RR. I tried to use a register reward from a previous week (not from the same manufacturer and it wouldn’t print a RR. I went to a different Walgreens and the same thing happened. I was told by both managers that if you use a coupon OR a register reward, no register reward would print! I told them both this made no sense, but that seemed to be the case. I plan on calling corporate after the holidays to see if Walgreens has changed their policy. This really makes no sense to me.

    • Michelle

I hope you’re right, Melissa. I might try it at another Walgreens to see if it will work.

    • lynn

did any one in florida get the bogo coupon for that deal i ahve look and cant seem to find hope i am just missing it what ad is it any

    • Michelle W

I was told by one of the Walgreen associates that RR will not print out if you purchase that item with a RR. Has anyone encountered this situation? I was most unhappy to hear this news. He said they were revamping the way they do the couponing. Soooo disappointing!

    • Deb

I’m heading out early Sun to give the Dove deal a shot.I wish the Cakester deal hadn’t ended-so cool! I kept getting 2 boxes for 46 cents total, then got $3. RR on each pair! I must have done the deal at least 7 tiimes!
Had a fab trip today to Target-so many trial sizes to snag free-those tiny ALL detergents are great! And how about the FREE Reach tbrushes? Sweet!

First Easy Saver- Now Register Rewards*

I have now been to 3 different Wags and bought the Dry Idea NO RR printed at all 3 stores. I also tried it on the Dove deal, NO RR there either. Paid cash, so no RR rollover was involved. I was told by every Mgr. that the RR will no longer print when ANY Manufacturer coupon is used. Not sure if this is only in the Atlanta area or if it’s at the store’s discretion, but it is not good, not good at all !!!

    • Kim

I am not sure about the dove deal. I don’t think you can buy the travel size deodorant. My coupon states that it excludes travel size. Do they make the body mist in a trial size? If they do not then they must be referring to the deodorant. But, when I looked at the coupon, it does not say which trial size they are excluding. Melissa C were you succesful with the dove deal?

    • Sondy

      For Lessie

I think you’re right about just needing to buy 4 @ 2.50 each for this the Keebler deal. Don’t forget the Keebler Sandies Q’s we printed a couple of weeks ago that is a 1/1. I printed 4 so I should get 4 packs for .25 ea. Fingers crossed!

    • Amanda in GA

I tried the Dove deodorant and body mist deal at my local Walgreens and they would not take my 1.50 off coupon for the deodorants. The manager stated that I could not use that coupon with the B1G1 coupons.
I could not get him to understand the scenario at all.

    • Amanda in GA

The dove deal will print a 2RR. Although I had problems with the 1.50 coupon, I did get the 2RR in Mableton, GA. They are wrong about the Manufacturers coupon not allowing RR to be printed.

    • susan

I am in FL. Tonight at Walgreens I used 2 Listerine Qs and 2 RRs and the $3RR printed. I am wondering if that Dry Idea was just a bum deal. I have friends in Atlanta and in FL that didn’t get RRs for that either.

    • Tracie

      Susan…..Prognosis Negative!!!

I tried 3 different items at 3 different stores. I even went to a store tonight that I received a RR for a few days ago when I used a coupon and now it doesn’t work. They are slowly revamping the registers to make it so you have to pay full price to qualify for a RR.
I spoke to a very nice Mgr. at my store here in Atlanta and she said that the registers are all being re-programmed to not print RR when a coupon is used. I asked her if this applied to both Manufacturer and RR coupons and she said yes. She said that they are phasing out the RR program, just like they eliminated the Easy Saver. They plan to have an “Instant Gratification” savings program and she said the target date for RR to be eliminated completely is 10/2010. So enjoy it while you can, because things are looking bleak at Wags.

    • Tracie

      CORRECTION: RR elimination date 10/09…sorry!

    • Michelle W

Oh well I guess Rite Aid and I will be real buddy buddyl

    • Stacey

Well, I am glad I read the comments on this section because I was told the same thing here in AL (If you use a RR for an item, the new RR will not print). I have to say that the roll out of the “‘Instant Gratification’ savings program” will probably be the end of my Walgreen days also.

    • I’m looking at our local ad here in Central Florida and they have Free Playtex Coupons with purchase. Doesn’t specify what kind of purchase. Not sure if anyone else saw this or not….I’ll try to go this afternoon and get those free tampons and find out what kind of purchase is required and let you know.

    • Just bought Pepsi at Walgreens and it rang in for $2.99 each. So after RR’s it is like paying $2 per 12 pack. Should have rang in at 3 for 12 or 4 bucks each. Great deal get it before they catch the mistake!

    • chopsmom

I used my free mars candy bar coupon today (from free chocolate fridays), combined with the in-ad coupon and it worked for a small overage.

I have also had lots of problems with rr, and wags customer service told me that they are eliminating the rr program by the end of the summer due to customer complaints and problems. Maybe they should model their new program after CVS…

    • marfmomma

does Walgreen’s accept manufacturer’s coupons? want to use them on the Fiber One cereal deal.

    • Brandy

I got the Dry Idea deo too and used my coupon and the RR didn’t print. I just asked to see the manager and when he saw that it was clearly stated in the ad he wrote me a rain check for $4 off my next purchase. (I bought two of the deo’s in two separate transactions.) Though at first I would have rather had the register reward to use at Publix at least this is $4 off anything. Also I bought the Off clip-on in those same transactions and used a coupon and the RR printed both times, so they can’t say that’s the reason they aren’t printing. Was even happier that I got a rain check for the $4 when I went to Publix next and found out that since the RR’s from walgreen’s aren’t for a specific item they will only take 1 per transaction anymore. BTW, I’m in Lexington, SC.

    • Brandy

Hate to hear that the RR program is going away, but to tell you the truth I do much better at CVS anyway. I will miss using them at Publix though.

    • Cherish

I live in Chattanooga, TN and in our paper I never get the coupons for Osteo Biflex. This is something I take daily. Does anyone have the coupons? Maybe we could do a coupon trade or something else? My email is creed4106@hotmail.com. Thanks, Cherish

    • Susan

Chopsmom mentioned “free chocolate fridays.” What is this? And how and where do I sign up? ;)

    • Samantha

You can go to realchocolate.com. Every friday you can sign up for a coupon for a free mars brand chocolate product. It takes a couple of weeks but free is free.

    • Teresa-QOCD

Wags in Laurens SC printed out a $1 RR instead of $2 on the toothpaste deal. Spoke with the manager and he said the RR will not print bacause I used a coupon. I’ve had them not print but not print wrong amount.??? Must be ending thr program early cause it aint working for me!

    • Amanda

Try’d to use more than one RR would not let me. They told me that I could only use one RR per transaction.

    • tonya

I used a register reward $3 & a coupon $1 on the soft & sheen and carson products on 7/4 in smyrna ga and it printed my register reward for $5.

    • Jenn

The management that is telling you that you cannot use a RR to pay when you are to receive a RR are wrong. Walgreens registers are programmed oddly… Here’s how it works. You can NOT use a RR you received from the same deal to purchase the same product or you will not receive another RR. For instance… if you did the Aquafresh toothpaste deal last month: You can NOT use that RR to pay for more Aquafresh (also on a RR promo this month) or you will not get a new RR. If you use a RR from Oreo Cakesters you should receive a new one for the Aquafresh.

If your stores are telling you that you can’t use mfr coupons with RR – they are WRONG! There have been MANY instances where the Walgreens ad states “use Sunday coupons for additional savings” within the box for a RR promo. I carry one of these with me (from a previous week) and show the managers this whenever anyone tells me this.

Another solution – ask them to “humor you” and rering the transaction (or the RR part of it) without coupons or RR. This way the new RR prints and the managers learn something new (unless it is a machine problem – where it may be better to re-ring at a different register or check the lights before they re-ring).

On the Dry Idea – I do not believe the roll-on is even included in the RR promo. If you look at the tags – the roll-on does not fit within the size requirements for the RR.

    • Cindy

Anyone know what zip codes work to get the $2.00 coupon for Listerine?

    • Tracy M

Cindy – try zip code 92688 for the Listerine coupon

    • Cheri

I was in our Walgreen’s a several weeks ago. I purchased one sale item with 1 mfg coupon and rr. It would not take the rr. The manager was EXTREMELY rude. She made quite a scene when the cashier asked her why it wouldn’t work. She quite loudly remarked that they were sick of people taking advatage of them. I was very embarresed and offered to pay cash. I had not done anything wrong. The coupon was for the valid item, in date. She said she would take the rr this time but that she would never again make an exception. I felt like a criminal. She said big changes were in store and a lot of people were not going to like them. I have not been back.

    • Emmy

i went to listerine.com and got the $2.00 off there

    • Sharon

Use 60060 for the zip code on Coupons.com (pretty sure that’s where I was at) It worked for me and i got 2 coupons. Hope this helps.

    • Tracie

      Jenn #31-

They are not telling me that I cannot get a RR, it is simply not printing. Most of the time they don’t even know why! I did not use a RR to purchase my item, I was paying cash. No RR when a Manufacturer coupon is used. I have tried several different Wags, items, registers and Managers and no luck. New system is now in place and a memo was sent out to not allow any coupons (this includes RR) when receiving rewards. I understand that alot of stores are still allowing this, because their system has not been updated.

    • Linda

      RE: #34
I hope you take the time to email corporate about this rude manager. No store wants to lose customers right now. Especially nationwide chains that have plenty of competitors. This manager needs to be re-educated on how to discreetly handle situations like this without angering the very people that keep her in a job. Believe me…Walgreens is NOT losing money on people that take the time to use the coupons available to them. They are actually gaining customers that might just keep the company afloat in these hard economic times! I am sorry that you were made to feel like you were doing something wrong, please don’t let poor employee performance on Walgreen’s behalf discourage you from doing what it takes to keep your family finances in a good place.

    • Buffy

      Cheri (#34) –

I agree with Linda…never, NEVER let someone treat you like that – you need to call corporate and tell them exactly what happened and what she said.

When she said, “She said big changes were in store and a lot of people were not going to like them.” you should have told her it sure would be sad to see Walgreens closing then, considering it was couponers who help keep it afloat, and pay her bills!

Keep us informed on what’s going on!

    • OM Word…I haven’t bee in the WALGREENS chat in a while, but yeah I will be anxious to see what happens.

    • As much as I hate to see a good thing end, I’m almost relieved. Shopping at any of the Walgreens stores in the Alpharetta/Roswell area has become more and more stressful over the past few weeks. I walk in almost expecting to have RR/coupon issues (even though I KNOW the rules and exactly what is and is not allowed). As long as CVS doesn’t start changing things, I’ll still be able to stock up.
