Publix Weekly Ad 4/29-5/5

Jenny View Comments Comments

Your Publix deals are ready! These are for the ad that starts today 4/29 or 4/30 depending on your area. As always it is a great week at Publix. This week there are lots of matches with Target coupons, I know many stores no longer accept these but I am including them for any areas that do.

Don’t forget the advantage buy deals . The new green advantage buy flyer starts this Saturday 5/2, I have the flyer and will get to it as soon as I finish the Bi-Lo post.

Check out the Food Lion Printable coupons before you go shopping. Remember that you can use a competitor coupon for house brand items on Publix house brands. There is a $1 off $5 produce printable!

Remember:

1. You do not have to buy 2 of the B1G1 items to get the sale price
2. If you do buy 2 items that are B1G1 make sure you use 2 coupons to get the best deal
3. Publix accepts competitors coupons (you can stack with a manufacturers coupon and a Publix coupon too)
4. You can use a store coupon and a manufacturer’s coupon on the same item
5. Most Publix locations double manufacturer coupons that are .50¢ or less

**1 & 5 do not apply to Florida stores**
For a detailed explanation of Publix’s coupon policy go here.

The Schick razors---can you use the $4 off coupon for the disposable ones? Looks like the coupon might be for the regular razors?
  • Nicole
Also, be sure to check your local competitor stores for coupons in the isles. You will be surprised what you might find coupon for to use at Publix. There is nothing wrong with grabbing a coupon or two to save for a later sale (if anyone questions you). I also get in the habit of writing to your favorite brands for a coupons. Here is what you do...
Go to the website - find the contact us link and complete the form with your info. Mention in the comments that you want coupons and how you LOVE their brand. I have gotten MANYYYYYYY coupons this way. Some for FREE items and most do not expire until 2010. The best ones were from Fresh Express/Chiquita and Kashi..
  • Nicole
I was more than prepared for Publix this time but unfortunately my preparedness still did not make a difference. I have been 'couponing' at Publix for the last 8 weeks with much success. I've use Foodlion, Whole Foods, Winn Dixie, Fresh Market and Target coupons at my location many times until recently. I had never had a problem until the last 2 weeks of shopping. I waited until Sunday (5/3) to be sure I would not need anything from the current Sunday paper. I had coupons from Target on Capri Sun, for the A& W root beer, and for some Store baby wipes (Foodlion Cu). I was told by my very nice cashier that he could NOT accept them b/c it was a COPY. I was like "How do you figure?, Were you there when printed it from the Foodlion and Target websites just 2 hours ago?" The bagger (senior cashier) went to get my 'favorite' (say "no" to everything) mgr. She smiled and hello ma'am good to see you again, I'm sorry we are not accepting printed competitor store coupons anymore. She went on to explain that they have experienced a lot of fraud and lost money as a result. I said well I understand and I will have to put those items back "as a result, of course." She walked away quietly, but I still felt like they dreaded having to deal with 'another couponer.' It's so sad, that in this economic time, we have to fight with retailers about saving money. I did not steal, I did not try to argue over illegitimate coupons, and I do not ever give them a reason to question my transactions..
I, too, plan to call the corporate office and will keep a copy of the store policy with me at all times to fight for my right to save while shopping.. Isn't it all so preposterous?
I love couponing hope that the opportunity to save money never goes away... Thanks again Southernsavers!!!!!!!!!!
  • Kristin
Just an idea to make a shopping trip go more smoothly since it seems a few bad couponing apples have spoiled it for the rest of us honest ones: I greet my cashier with a smile and a hello, and before she/he begin ringing in my items, I hand them my coupons. This way if they need to scan my stuff and make sure I have all items & coupons matched, they can. I can totally understand that they need to be careful and verify coupons. After all, most people want to do their job well, right? And if someone behind you gets anxious as the cashier scans your bundle of coupons, just be wise knowing that you just earned money while they pay full price.
  • MiniMidgMom
My store was out of Capri Sun Sunrise so they let me substitute.

Here's the breakdown on the buy 3 GM cereals get free milk in case you have other opportunities to use your coupons elsewhere. I lucked out and the cashier counted the free box that I got with the buy 2 select GM cereals get 1 free as one of the three I needed for the milk (the person at customer service said I had to actually buy a third box so the freebie didn't count towards the milk).

Here's the math - the cereal was $4.99 a box. I had two $1/1 coupons and a $1/3 coupon. 9.98 for cereal minus $3 = 6.98 minus $2.69 for milk = $4.29 divide by 3 boxes of cereal = $1.43 a box. Only 6 cents less per box then if you bought then BOGO with a $1 coupon and bought your milk. So if this is a lean week and you don't want to lay out that much money for cereal you might want to wait and stockpile when you have more money in the bank.

  • Kim
From a friend who works at Publix. They are having a lot of bad couponers come through. Expired coupons, coupons for items they didn't buy, etc. Just take a deep breath and be patient. They are going to crack down, and make errors, for a while, then everyone will relax again. If you want to make it go easier on all of us, just make sure everything is valid. If you think there's an error, ask to speak with the store manager. I do know that they are supposed to stop taking the $5 of $$$ coupons from drugstores because in some areas they are getting flat out slammed by them.
  • Stacey
Amazing to read all the stories of people having trouble using coupons at Publix. I, too, had trouble today. The cashier stood there for several minutes before ringing up my groceries scrutinzing every purchase I made: type, how many, etc. At one point she yelled across the store to another cashier and asked if they took Food Lion coupons. I was embarrassed, to say the least. She also would not give me any overage. I used the 2 J&J First Aid coupons. Because the 2 items I bought didn't add up to $5, she said she could only use one. Last week they also told me that they don't take Target coupons anymore. Apparently Publix feels as though they are being taken advantage of or something. Everyone is checking very dilligently. I didn't want to make a scene so I didn't put up too much of a fight. I still saved more than I spent. But I agree, they treat you as though you are trying to rip them off instead of a concerned shopper just trying to save money.
  • Dianne
    Jenny,
Had to write to say thank you, thank you, thank you! So proud of myself & my successful (and even profitable trip) to Publix today. Total savings was $72.50. My grand total was -0.82. They actually paid me to take 3 bags of groceries out the door! I couldn't have done it without Southern Savers. Keep up the great work.
  • lynn
the other day my trip to publix was interestings as the cashieralso read every detail on each and ever couponcome of my coupons were for a value more than the product so she manual typed in the coupon value to match the price when i asked her about this she said they are no longer allpwed to give overagethere were alot of people in line behind me so i chose not to deal with it then as some people in line were cranky... when i got home i called the store manager to ask about the coupon policy and to inquire i explained to him what happened with the coupons being lowered so he went and pulled acopie of my recept and matched the coupons he said that definatly was not there policy to lower the value of the coupons as they get the full coupon value back from the mf and that any overage is suppossed to be applied to the rest of the bill he also thanked me for choosing to use my coupons at there store and said when i come in he would have the amount to refund me for the amount she dummied down he was real nice and apoligetic that she had done that ....... any ways went back and got my 4.00 back from publix (he had the cashirer there that did that with the coupons) all and all i have learned if you are nice the will try to explain and acomidate you as they do seem to value the couponers who are following the rules....
  • lynn
Jenny if i have a coupon for buy this item get that itam free can i use a $ off coupon on the free item?
  • Jenny
    Lynn,
At first I was going to say yes but then I reread your question. The Buy this get that coupon is counting at the coupon for the free item so technically no you can't use another coupon for the free item. You could use a coupon for the item that is still full price though.
  • lynn
Leonards hmm am i missing somr thing if it is a 2.00 off coupon and the paper plates are 3.00 how are they free? are you stacking with another coupon?
  • lynn
some of the chinet plates here have a coupon for free napkins
  • Emily S.
Hi! Does anyone know if you have to have the in store coupon with you to get the free milk deal with the General Mills cereal? Thanks!
  • Jenny
Emily you do need the store coupon but it is in the weekly ad so grab an ad as you go into the store and you are set.
  • Amy
Did the Target CapriSun coupon for a box of 20 drinks work at Publix when thier sale was for a box of 10 drinks?
  • The Leonards
I had a terrible experience at Publix today with the Rite Aid $5 off $25 coupon. When I entered the store I asked the manager if I could use it and she said yes. During checkout I handed the coupons over in order, but of course she started from the bottom so I asked her to scan the Rite Aid q first. She looked at it as said "ohh i have to ask the manager." After scanning ALL the q she asked the manager if it was ok and she said yes, but guess what-the computer could not accept it because my total was $14. I was so HOT.

Any hoo, there are a few great coupons in this Sundays insert(5/3) $1/1 Tropicana, $1.50/2 expandable ziploc on sale $3/2, and $2/1 chinet lunch plates on sale for $3-makes them FREE.
  • Diane
Apparently Target and Publix are cracking down on the coupons. I am very particular about my coupons. I have everything sorted, items circled in the ad, etc. I had someone at Target who stood there and read the fine print on every coupon before even allowing me to use them. Then I went to Publix and there twin must have been there as they too sat there and read every detail. After that I am not sure if I am going to bother with the coupons. I have a 16 month old who I can't leave at home to go shopping alone and I can't stand there for what seems to be 30 minutes while they read every coupon and treat me like I am stealing and then try to tell me they have new policies and procedures! I also had an item at Target that they miscoded on clearance and the guy wasn't going to let me have it even after a manager came over and told him to give it to me. Seriously? Is this how it is now a days just because I am trying to save money? I will be writing to both Target and Publix over this.
  • Sheila
I went to publix tonight and was very intent on just buying the best deals, had made sure I had all my coupons in order...get to check out and was treated like an absolute criminal. The cashier was great, the front end manager was horrible. She accused me of using too many coupons on certain item, which I had not, I took every one of them out of the buggy and asked her count them in front of me. I AM writing a letter and making a phone call. I stood my ground but to be honest I am not sure I got credit for all the coupons. She started adding them up and putting in 1 lump sum. Doesn't that keep me from getting doubles on those. I am just so upset with them. Is this how it always is??? I have only "couponed" at publix like 5 times ever. Does anyone else get treated like this?
  • Teri
There is a coupon for a free Glade Scented Gel Warmer in the small booklet called SC Johnson, Save Over $37 today.

Also Sargento Salad Finshers are on sale 2 for $5, I think. Used with a $1 q and the full rebate (attached to q that was in the paper)makes it a good. A customer in Publix said they are quite good.

Some Eggo products (near the waffles) are on sale and Publix allowed me to use the FL q ($1)and a $.75 manufacturers q to make them $.25.
  • Jackie

I used a printed compet Q for .55 cents off Quaker Oatmeal just on Thursday this week at Publix. I thought it was a FL Q. It is on sale for $1.99 this week at Publix. I wanted to get more but now can't find the Q. Does anyone know where it is?
  • Tiffani
I was so bummed out on my visit to Publix today. My cashier would not take my RR from Walgreens, he even asked the front end manager and she wasn't familiar with them so she also refused to let him take them. I tried to tell them that they were manufacturers coupons, but the line was backed up and I was tired of arguing. Upon getting home, I called and talked to the store manager and he confirmed that they should have taken them. But now, I've got to make another trip to take my receipt and coupons in to get reimbursed. Uggghh!!
  • Jackie
I agree completely. Many of the cashiers are NOT well trained whatsoever, and I actually think they just say whatever comes to their mind, truth or not. I have had a similar experience with a cashier that said "we just had a meeting today in fact that we can no longer take *any* competitors coupons" I put up such a fight that she said "Ugh fine, I will just scan them this one time for you" when I got in the car I immediately called the manager and he said he's NEVER given a meeting about thier "new policy on coupons" and in fact, he thanked me for my business and for using competitors coupon at their Publix rather than the actual store. Come to think of it, I havent seen that cashier since so I am hoping she got fired???? :)
  • mary
The back to nature printable coupon says that it may not be copied. When you print it out from the computer it of course looks copied. My store would not use it. I am not sure where this coupon is coming from, but it would not work with my store manager. They said they are cracking down on coupons lately. It all depends on who is checking you out. I have noticed teenagers are a bit more lenient, but be aware, it may not work for you.
  • I, too, had a bad experience at Publix (in Goose Creek) this week. Instead of following my instincts and waiting in a longer line for a cashier that I know is "coupon friendly", I got in another line, with a "newbie", who totaled out my order before scanning my coupons, and debiting my account. I do know better than to slide my card before the total, but that day I did it anyway fro some reason. She then tried to tell me that she didn't need to scan my coupons, because the coupons came up automatically when she scanned my items. What!?! Okay, I had to give this girl a lesson on coupons that apparently her bosses didn't. She thought the sale prices and advantage buys that show up on the receipt were "coupons" and that she didn't have to scan mine. Supposedly another cashier "told" her this. I explained to her what coupons are, and that they come from the MANUFACTURER. So, another cashier came over, corrected her, then the bag boy took me to customer service to get my coupon amounts refunded. After waiting for about 10 minutes while they helped ONE customer, the Helper Cashier came back and got me, took me to a closed register and refunded my coupon money herself, to the tune of $25. I was so aggravated! I know new cashiers make mistakes, but in my opinion, this girl was not fully trained. This Publix has a LOT of extreme couponers too, I've seen and met many in there! So obviously they need to spend some time on this with new cashiers.

I will, of course, go back to Publix. I'll just make sure I go to "my" cashier next time! Lesson learned.

How do you get 3 coupons, there were 2 links for 2 coupons to print, but where is the third coupon?
  • lauren
I'm not seeing the Pace for .50/1 - all I have in my SS is .40/2. What other coupons are around the .50/1 in the SS so I can find it?
    Thanks Jenny!!
  • Halie
I guess hat coupon would not actually work b/c it says save $1 when you buy three, and with the deal you are only buying two.

I am sort of new at this so someone tell me if this would work.
    thanks!
  • Halie
There is a $1 off three General Mills Cereals, manfr coupon, that expires on 5/16/09, though I am not sure which week it was from. I already had clipped it and it was in a big stack with others from various weeks.
I just saw that it was a SmartSource coupon, just don't know the week.

this would go with the Buy 2 Get 1 on General Mills Cereal.
  • Jenny
For the GLade plugins there is also a coupon "Get a free warmer when you buy a twin pack scented refill" You get two free warmers since they are bogo! What an awesome deal!

I have never posted on this site because I normally read it from work where this part is blocked. I just wanted to share my shopping experience at Publix from a week ago..
I am usually well prepared for my shopping trip to Publix with a list (incuding cost and amount for coupons), coupons organized along with my sales ad. I was rather confident that I would come out paying about $27-$30 for my transaction but when I got the to register there was a cashier with meticulous standards on coupons and the shift mgr was bagging. She took my coupons and immediately started to separate them according to how my items were on the conveyor belt. Fine, but when she got to a coupon she had never seen before she would show it to the mgr bagging my items and confirm it was legitimate.. This did not make me so mad; only when she got to the coupons that came directly from the manufacturer - usually those coupons are printed on better paper and look VERY authenticate. I was embarrassed and started to feel like a criminal rather than someone who wants to save money for me and my family. Here's the kicker; Silk soy was on sale for 2/$5 and so had a mfc coupon directly from the company AND the silk soy PUBLIX coupon that I cut out from the greenwise Publix magazine. Can you believe that the cashier gave those back to me and said they were Mfc coupons and I cannot use TWO mfc for the same ONE item.. I proceeded to ignore the cashier and explain to the mgr that one is a store coupon and one is a mfc coupon. The mgr got visibly frustrated with me and pointed out the since that coupon had MANUFACTURER on the heading of the coupon Although it clearly says 'redeem at Publix... LU #5910'. It did not have a scan bar to indicate that it could be used at any other store. So instead of getting my milk for $.50 I had to pay $1.50. I still saved a ton but I really felt they were giving me misinformation.. Also, I have been using the Foodlion coupon for $3 off Kingsford charcoal since it was released as a competitor coupon, but again the MGR would not let me use it and the peelie on the charcoal for $2 off. She gave me the FL coupon back and said they are BOTH mfc and proceeded to show me that it will scan as MFC and not competitor !! URRG
After this experience, I realize that not all of my trips to Publix will be pleasant and without worry of scrutiny. I was discouraged at the time and walked out of there feeling like I had done something wrong. I do plan to talk to the store mgr this week to clear up the soy milk deal... I hope all of you have had better luck...
Thanks southern savers for all your research and advice!
  • tonya
i can no longer pull it up either joy. looks like it has run out. don't be discouraged. my family ate them for bfast and weren't that impressed. especially dh.
  • Joy
When I go to the Farm Rich site the only coupon offered to me is the Meatballs...have I waited too late?
  • tonya
has anyone ever frozen orange juice in the carton? does this work?
  • Kim
Has anyone seen the new green advantage buy flier? I haven't been able to find it at either of the stores near me.
  • tonyac - they do not get reimbursed for the target q's or any other competitor coupon. They just want your business so they accept them because they would rather you spend $ at their store than at target. I think this is why many Publix managers are only accepting "traditional" grocery store coupons now. There are less of those out there and many are not printable in mass quantities.
  • tonyac
Margerie, I have noticed too that all the coupons don't always match the specific items that are on sale, but depending on your store they may or may not take them. I think a lot of it has to do with the cashier at times as well. The only problems I have really had with this was at Walgreens. The listerine sale there got me because it was only for certain kinds of listerine and the coupons I had was for the wrong kind. So Far no problems at publix.
  • tonyac
Lauren, That is the way that the manager's both explained it to me. My main point is that they are reimbursed the face value of the Coupon regardless of whether or not they "adjusts the coupon down". I cant even remember the costs of the razors but yes even though the one 4.00 coupon puts you in overage they will accept the $2.00 target one anyways, which would give you an overage of about $2.60 and would be deducted off your balance. sounds strange I know. I'm sure that different stores do have different policies. That is why I checked with my local stores when I first started shopping there, to make sure I had all the details straight....As far as being reimbursed for the target coupon , I understood it that they were but I'm not for sure on that, Surely they benefit from it or they wouldn't accept them. People that keep duplicating the coupons are the ones that is causing them to lose money.
  • lynn
where are the orange juice coupons located would love to print them thanks
  • tom
where do you get the $120 savings book??? Also how does the advantage buy deals work??? Just starting out and could use your assistance...Thanks Tom
  • Lauren
Thanks Tonya! I have nothing but admiration for Jenny, Im thankful for SS every day!
  • Jan
TonyaC, ok now I am really confused. Are you saying that Publix is remibursed for a competitors coupon. For example on the razors, if you use the $4 off manfq and stack with the $2 off competitor q you will end up with an approx overage of $2.60.
  • Margie
I have noticed you will post several different brand coupons to use with an item, but when I get to the register the cashier will not allow the coupon, for example the Dannnon Dan-o Nino to use toward the 6pk of yogurt. It's not the same item so they wont allow it. this has happened on numerous products I was counting on. What am I or the cashier doing wrong, or not aware of.
This really messes up my shopping.
    Thanks for any help
  • Jenny
    Margie,
With most deals that include various types of products like the dannon yogurt. I am listing all the coupons for all of the possible items that are on sale. When go in you need to use the coupon that matches the product that you choose to get. Since the ads are vague sometimes I have to guess and just give you every coupon that is out and sometimes one of the products may not be part of the sale.
  • tonya
    brandy,

just read your previous comment about a zip code(?). when i logged in there was already a zip code typed in and i didn't change it to my own. try... 97211 maybe it will work for you.
  • tonya
    hi lauren,

coming through loud and clear. jenny has always been extremely punctual at responding to questions/comments from anyone/everyone since i've been a fan. keep trying. i know she must be very busy.
  • Michelle Thomas
    Hi Cayce,

The number I called to check on the General Mills/Publix gift card rebate is 1-800-627-6059. Sorry it took me so long to respond!

Hope you get your rebate, too!
  • Diane
The Columbia Downtown Publix and the one on Harbison said that they can no longer honor either the Rite Aid or Target coupons. I talked to a manager at both stores.
  • Lauren
    Hi,

I'm an avid southernsavers reader and fan, and I laud you for all you do for all of us who are trying to struggle and squeeze by in these difficult times.

I'm confused, however. I've posted comments/questions/tips, and written emails to Jenny, many times, but have not gotten a single response, which seems really strange. I think what I'm adding or asking is timely and relevant. I'm starting to feel like I'm invisible. Anyone out there?

    Thanks.
  • TonyaC
Jan, I Just wanted to point out that Publix does not lose any money by allowing overage. I actually spoke to customer service at both the stores I use to make sure the policies were the same and this is what they both told me. Publix accepts competers coupons because they want our business, and they are reimbursed full value for any coupon so they are not losing any money. Also if say you used your $4.00 coupon and they did adjust it down , they would still receive the $4.00 from the manufactor, which would mean they were profiting off of the customer. Basically it is a win win situation . The manufactor wants you too use the coupons as well to encourage you to use their products, and Publix is making money not losing it, and the customer is saving so they want to shop there. One problem I do see is that some of the coupon links listed on this site are reproduced. I'm not going to mention the site they are coming from but this is going to be the reason that they stop stacking coupons and taking competetors coupons. Not too mention illegal. I didn't even realize it until a cashier asked me about a specific Target couoon that I had used.
  • tonya
    brandy,

i clicked on link posted above for the farm rich french toast sticks and printed two and used them both...making each box 89 cents.
  • Tonya
Jackie, the Bogo Deals at publix ring up at half price, instead of one ringing up full price and the other free. That means you only have to buy one and still get the item for half price, and if you get 2 you can use a both a Man and a store coupon on each. My Publix will also deduct the full coupon amount even if it is more than the cost of the item.
  • JMR
The 50 cent Daisy coupon doubles to $1.00. The item is 99 cents so it is free.
  • Anyone?? French Toast sticks coupon printable?? Anyone??
  • wendy
tropicana.com has 2 different $1 off coupons...one is for Tropicana
50, the other is for regular OJ!!! That makes OJ at Publix $1.50 this week!
  • I am in FL go figure lol
  • Aymie, the coupon doubles if you are outside FL to $1.
  • The shick quattro worked fine for me... hopefully no one has a problem...
  • Jenny
If Daisy is $.99 each, and you have a $.50 off coupon, how would it be free?? Wouldn't it be $.49??
  • Ashley
I am bummed that Publix doesn't take the competitor advertised savings. I used the WD and Food Lion coupons, but they wouldn't adjust the prices for what was in the flyer papers. Oh well.

I was excited when I found a coupon inside my goldfish package for $1/1 V8 Fusion!!
  • Jan
I am with you on that one Jackie. I didn't push it and just used the $4.00 off one giving me an overage of .60 each. If we get TOO greedy they will limit the stacking.
  • Has anyone used the $4 Q for the schick razors at the Goose Creek Publix? I'm going today, and want to be prepared, as that Q alone will make an overage.

Also, Shellie (above) said she used the $4 Q and the $2 Target Q on these, and all the overage came off the bill. Why would you use both when it's already free? Just for the overage? I'm just curious.
  • Renee
Boo Hoo! I ran out to Publix last night to use up all my 75 cent Q's for the Nabisco snack packs on sale for $1.99. Unfortunately the coupon states save on Honey Delite Bars or chewly granola bars. Guess what? Those 2 are NOT included in the $1.99 sale. They were $3.29 a box. I returned them all. What a wasted trip.
  • Carrie
There are also blinkies right now at Publix for $2 on any Contessa meal.
  • Carrie
Don't forget the $1 off Digiorno Pizza FLIP to stack!
  • Jenny
    Carrie,

I think the DiGiornio FLIP is expired :( Sorry.
  • Stacey
Last week the cashier told me that they will no longer be taking Target coupons. Kroger and Food Lion yes, but not Target.
