Going Nuts? I can help you understand coupon terms and abbreviations

It’s Wednesday again, and time for new deals at Publix!  This weekly ad starts 5/27 or 5/28 depending on your area.  It is a good week for savings this week. The prices aren’t incredibly low, but the savings will still be great.  Thanks to Paula for an early sneak peak.

Note:  Many of your coupons will expire on 5/31 so going shopping on or before Sunday might be best.

Don’t forget the Yellow Advantage Buy Deals or the Green advantage buy deals. A New Green Advantage Buy Flyer starts 5/30. Look for those deals later in the week.

Check out the Food Lion Printable coupons before you go shopping. Remember that you can use a competitor coupon for house brand items on Publix house brands.

Remember:
1. You do not have to buy 2 of the B1G1 items to get the sale price
2. If you do buy 2 items that are B1G1 make sure you use 2 coupons to get the best deal
3. Publix accepts competitors coupons (you can stack with a manufacturers coupon and a Publix coupon too)
4. You can use a store coupon and a manufacturer’s coupon on the same item
5. Most Publix locations double manufacturer coupons that are.50¢ or less

    Correction: B3G1. Wouldn't B1G3 be great though? :)

I am also a cashier at Publix, not Customer Service or management, simply a cashier. Personally, I've never had a customer yell at me, but many talk down to cashiers because they refuse coupons. The honest reasons cashiers may not seem thrilled with your coupon purchases are: 1. more and more, management is breathing down our necks about coupons. A newsletter to cashiers from my store this week threatened possible termination from the store if our tills were short because of coupons. Coupons, especially competitor coupons, are actually costing the store a lot of money. 2. A lot of couponers assume they are right about the coupon simply because of what a website, not just this one, may say. The truth is, like Jenny said about stores in Florida, every store has a different policy. Corporate has almost no regulations about coupons in Publix, so management must make one that keeps the store from losing money and keeps you saving enough money to keep you coming back. 3. Honestly, though it sounds lazy and like poor customer service, sometimes at the end of a long day, a stack of coupons looming before us is the last thing we want to see. You guys know how much time and effort you put into matching coupons with the sale items. We're expected to do this in a timely manner and with a happy face. As previously stated, we love to see you save the money, but it's simply a pain to scrutinize every little slip of paper like our stores require that we do. So just be friendly; couponers are often some of the most friendly customers. Many don't take the time to talk even when spoken to, but almost every customer with many coupons is willing to make small talk. Just as customers often brighten my day, I do my best to brighten yours.

We don't double coupons that say DO NOT DOUBLE because we're told not to. That's the bottom line. Ask your local manager; don't get upset with the cashier. We're at the bottom of the totem pole. =)

I read nearly every comment on this post, and it makes me happy that so many of you are happy with our stores. However, it makes me upset that all we hear is negative feedback! Many of you mention your favorite cashier. Shoot an email to corporate and mention their name and store. Heck, they might get a pat on the back, a free sub combo, or even a raise because of it. If we get customer feedback, the cashiers who deserve praise receive it and the cashiers who don't, well, don't. Give names on here if you want. We don't mind, and that way, other couponers will know who is coupon-friendly and who is not.

About B1G3 on items that are already B1G1, I always give the customer the 50% price for free. The way we are told to ring up free items is to do a price check on the item then take that much off. If the price is 1.50, it wouldn't be right to give 3.00 off. That's my logic anyway. Once again, if you disagree, take it up with a manager. We'll do whatever you need to make you happy. That's why we have signs that say "We will never knowingly disappoint you." That means tell someone who can fix it!
  • MiniMidgMom
JEB, I sometimes when I print the coupon.com coupon within a week or two the expiration date is different, sometimes it stays the same. You just have to decide how much you want the item,if you will still use the coupon even if it doesn't come on sale, if you want to risk the coupons' print limit being reached if there is a good sale, and if it's worth the cost of ink.

My Publix is sooo good! If I have a $1/2 coupon they will still let me use a $1/1 coupon. If I have $1/3 then they let me use two more coupons. Their rule seems to be one coupon per item,a bar code for a bar code. I have not tried a BOGO coupon with a BOGO sale yet, since they ring up the items at half price I'm guessing that I would just pay 1/2 price and walk out the door with two items. The last time I went I was able to use a BOGO with another MQ - the GO applied to the free item and the MQ applied to the BO.

I use about $5 in competitor's coupons a week. I've asked several times for them to post signs if they ever change their policy so I'll know when I go in the door. I call and ask about new coupon combos and scenarios before I go, or stop at the desk on the way in and always get the name of who I talk to. If person who said yes was wrong then the manager will still allow me to use the coupons that one time only. We have a lot of competitors for Publix in our area and I stay loyal to Publix for non-coupon items because their customer service is so good.
  • Meg
Just wanted to say thanks again to Jenny for the free dog food PLUS $1.09 I was given back from overage! Can't beat being PAID to shop :)
  • Mina
Thanks, Paula. As much as I want shoppers to be honest and fair in their dealings, I expect the same from the stores that I deal with. If Publix states that their stores accept the coupons they issue in conjunction with MQ's, but continues to word them in a way that prohibits that stacking, then they are intentionally misleading customers. It really tarnishes the company image in my eyes. They either need to change the wording on their q's to eliminate ONLY combining them with any other store/competitor q's, or just admit outright that they are no longer stacking store and MQ's.

Their raincheck policies have been changing in my area, too. I'm not one who asks for huge amounts of a product on RC, and I seldom actually redeem them, but just getting them when items are OOS satisfies me. Two "deals" or 4 items is often not enough to go around in my family.
  • Crystal
I used the Kraft buy three get one free Q tonight. After it was scanned the computer took off the $.49 for the free box, then it doubled it. So, I really got 2 free! The four boxes ended up being $.25 each.
  • Paula
    Christine,
According to the Publix Guidelines from Corporate.....We can stack coupons. One store coupon (a competitors coupon is considered a store coupon) and a manufacturers coupon. You can either use the Publix coupon or a competitor coupon with a vendor coupon. But you can't use all 3.
Some stores (which will soon be most stores) will not take a manufacturers coupon if it states on the store coupon "not to be used with other offers or coupons". So be prepared for cashiers to be even more "careful" when you come through the check out. And NO it is not on most coupons.....they are basically (for right now) just looking at it on the store coupons (which can also be a competitors coupon). They are tigthening up on the coupons that say "Do Not Double". So be prepared for that too.
  • Kim
I have a question regarding the Natures Own bread. Is it just me or was there no Redplum insert on 3/22? I have a Smartsource insert, but there's no Natures Own Q in it.
  • gretchen
I just left a nice comment about the awesome cashiers at my store on the Publix website. Hope that will help them out!
  • Jen C.
I saw the question early on in this post but did not see an answer....has anyone had luck using the Smart Ones Weight Watcher Coupons on the WW Ice Cream? They do not say Smart Ones on the box so I was wondering if the coupons posted have actually worked.
    Thanks!
  • Paula
    Catherine,
Thank you for mentioning the reward to cashiers that do a good job. So many people are ready to jump on bad things and never mention the good. The associates that do well or go above and beyond get a voucher for a free lunch. It is a great reward.
If everyone could be as thoughtful as you were to care enough to mention good service.....wow - what a better world this would be.
  • Lisa
Publix was pretty good for savings this week, especially as we needed a few perishable items. Not anything frozen - not much more space.. Eggs were .99 a dozen, the Sargento Cheese was 2 for $4! I saved 87%!! Total 129.02 paid 17.71!! YEAH!
Oh' and in front of the Tostitos chips section there were tearpads for free salsa with the purchase of 2 tostitos chips... I know they are due to BOGO soon... They expire in Sept so plenty of time. Also, I got a Winn Dixie $10 off $50 purchase - cashier had no issues, she just wanted to know where she could get one... I went to Winn Dixie for 2 things, less than $5 and it printed out?? In my area the most all the Publix stores accept FL, WD, most everyone but Target.
Also, my cashiers have never taken the coupon if overage to the exact amount, actually today my cashier took more than what the item sells for on the B3G1 free mac/cheese, she took the max on the free amount. She was being really nice. I used the Beneful coupons and it was $6 off the 5.49.. BOGO
Oh' and one more thing - the Advil PM is only .49 with the new $3 advantage buy coupon and the printable $2. Great Deal! I think...
  • MiniMidgMom
Mandy, I live in Tennessee and get most of my savings from stacking coupons, and also b/c my Publix lets you buy 1 item for 1/2 price with a BOGO sale. Are there any other grocery stores in your area that are more flexible with coupons than Publix?Honestly, our Publix has higher prices on many things than Kroger or WalMart and before I started couponing I had to drive 20 minutes to go to WalMart, which I hated b/c I like Publix better and it's only 3 miles down the road. But I was saving $30-40 a week there without coupons.

We have a Super Target and Super Kroger that both sell household goods - and in the summer our Publix (like many) sells patio furniture and lawn plants so the manager's comment wasn't real accurate. The grocery portion of Super Target is huge, and the regular Targets are trying to get in the game as well. Our Walgreens and CVS aalso have small grocery departments and their prices and deals are starting to rival the grocery stores but our Kroger and Publix do not consider them competitors. I feel really blessed here - I don't know hwy the Florida stores are so different.

Lay's chips: I have scored big with them this week! The Target printables for $1/2 helped, but I have coupons from tearpads in Publix and Kroger: get a free bag of any Lay's chips when you buy 2 baked, $2 off Sara Lee bread when you buy 2 baked(bread is on sale for $1.99 so it's free), $2 off when you buy 2 baked, $2 off Lay's dip when you buy two bags - I have 4 bags of baked chips, 2 bags of regular, a dip, and two loaves of bread for less than $8, would have been less than $7 but I forgot the Target coupon the second time I went. The $2 off bread expired 5/31 but my store still has the tearpad up in the chip aisle and will take the coupon until this Saturday. Guess we're taking baked Lay's to the next picnic we go to!

I wound up in Publix 3 times between Sunday and Monday the penny item was different every time. I didn't know they switched it around so much. Publix deluxe mac and cheese, the beefaroni on the con-agra list, and Hunt's pudding.
  • Becky
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I'm new to this. Sent my hubby to Publix today since he was in the vicinity. Gave him a list to get Beneful, mustard and the penny item (pasta). Sadly, he forgot the pasta... But he was so excited to walk out of the store with 2 bags of FREE dog food and one bottle of FREE French's Honey Mustard.

He said that cashier and manager were "bum-fuzzled"... They had to do some thinking and adjusting, but in the end, they worked it out! (Sadly, they didn't have any more Original flavor Beneful...so our doggy will get to eat the Diet kind. Won't hurt him...LOL!)
  • Jason
    Tonya,

I had the same issue last night with the taco bell dinner kit IPs, however the rest of the IPs worked for me. Rather confusing. The cashier ended up manually putting them in.

Also is it common for Publix not to have all B1G1 items marked? I didn't see anything on the McCormick black pepper or spray and wash last night so I was hesitant to buy them. Will go back with the ad today and buy them I suppose.
  • tonya
each week at my local publix, my coupons from many links here like coupons.com, smart source.com or redplum.com have had difficulty scanning...some after 2 or 3 tries by the cashier would FINALLY scan but some even after several attempts by the cashier would NOT scan at all. the manager said they could not honor the coupon if it would not scan, so i had to take items out of my cart (embarrassing). my ink cartridge is new. the coupons look fine and the ink is dark. what am i doing wrong here?

    any advice?

by the way...all of my newspaper or magazine etc. coupons always scan perfectly. so, makes me wonder if i'm missing something on the printing avenue.
  • Kristy
Jenny that stinks. But the manager didn't have to be so rude about it, he could have nicely said we don't double coupons in Florida instead of yelling at me that he had never seen the coupon policy. Made me not want to go back. Stinks that they don't double, because the prices are also already higher than other places, and they don't do the penny item either. Florida sucks.
  • Kim
I receive the Evening Edge also, but it seems to be delivered sporadically. One Thursday I get it, the next I don't. I tried looking on the AJC website for some sort of contact number for the Evening Edge "department", but I've yet to find one.
  • Kristy
So I went to Publix today with my coupons for the first time today. I am in Jacksonville, FL. When the cashier saw my coupons, she immediately called the manager over because she wasn't sure about the buy 3 get 1 free on the mac n cheese. That was fine, I am a cashier and I understand wanting to be sure. But then I noticed the coupons weren't doubling, so I asked the manager. Well, he got so snotty with me!! He asked where I heard that and I said it's in the Publix coupon policy. So then he asked where I saw the coupon policy because he's never seen. Well, that's not my fault, but I told him I would print it out and bring it to him. He said people ask that all the time but that they do not double coupons! It was fine because most of what I was buying was coming out to pennies anyways without the doubles, but one item I probably wouldn't have bought without the doubles but I was so flustered by his rudeness that I didn't think to ask them to take it off.

So do they not double in Florida, or is it just this store or what?
  • Jenny
    Kristy,

Sorry but they do not double at all in Florida. They do in every other state but not FL. The other difference for FL is that you have to buy 2 of the B1G1 items because one is free and the other full price, where in every other state we only need to buy one at half price.
  • Christine
Also, for the Publix employee...I have had occasions when I've had more coupons than items due to stacking, but I'm not committing fraud. I'm following the rules of that particular store. I always show the cashier what I am stacking for each item before she rings it in. Just yesterday my cashier had to call the manager over because I had more coupons than items (from stacking), and the manager actually asked her if my savings was "all legal" or something to that effect and the cashier said "yup". If I'm doing something wrong I'd like to know, but I've emailed Publix corporate and spoken to my local store manager and they have assured me that they do stack coupons and that they do accept BJs coupons. I'd really hate for a cashier to get in trouble for accepting coupons from me that they shouldn't be accepting, though. I honestly wish that the stores would standardize their policies and have a printed policy so I could stop worrying that any particular cashier was going to get "written up" for accepting stacked coupons from me or something.

Do you stack manufacturer/competitor/store coupons still or is this supposed to be prohibited by the "one coupon per item" language that is on basically all coupons? It's so hard to know because the manager says one thing and then the cashier says another.

FWIW, my Publix doesn't take Target or SuperTarget coupons either. I don't quite understand it because they are a competing grocery store around here, but whatever...I can go to Target and stack coupons there if I really want to.
  • Christine
One "manager" at the Publix around here refuses to take Publix coupons and manuf. coupons together because there is a restriction on the Publix coupons now. I just avoid going to his store as a result. One thing that you all might want to ask your Publix managers is if they accept BJs coupons. Ours around here do because there are 2 BJs that they compete with for customers. You obviously only use the ones that are "off any" and not off some specific huge size, but they frequently make the items free or free with overage. For instance, there is a $2 off Nonni's Biscotti coupon (any size) on the BJ's website. If you are a member and have an account, you can print them off and get the biscotti free plus $1.01 in overage with the B1G1F this week. Check with your store manager to see if they might take BJs coupons because you can save a good amount with them! Hope this helps someone!

*ATLANTA COUPONERS* I live in Buckhead and I have started to receive the AJC on Thursdays delivered to my home. I do NOT subscribe to the AJC so I'm not sure why I'm receiving this paper but it has coupons in it. It is usually the same coupons that were in the previous Sunday's AJC so you'll have twice the savings. The name of the paper is "The Evening Edge".

I got Pringles ($1.34 sale price) last night at Forest Drive as Penny Item. Penny coupon took off $1.98 for pasta shells. I was happy to get chips instead and I got overage to offset the six boxes of Little Bites I bought. Thanks to Jenny I am trying to get stocked up on sale with stuff we REALLY use when it is on sale. I just need more room at my house. I had no problems using my Food Lion coupons or other coupons as well. The last two weeks my savings at Publix were over $70.

I suppose I am very lucky with a Publix that is FANTASTIC. I've been shopping there for years, and most of the employees know me. They know that I'm not committing coupon fraud and I don't get many hassles. Of course I have my favorite cashiers, and I will gladly wait in their line rather than have to go through a line with a cashier who is not quite as coupon-friendly. I also make a point to know the name of the manager(s) I speak with about a particular coupon question or issue. That way when I go through the line if there is a question I can give the cashier the name of the manager who okayed the coupon or confirmed the store policy. That seems to make a big difference. Also, it has been my personal experience over the years that shopping during the day tends to make my couponing easier. The cashiers that have been with the company the longest seem to work day shift (I'm assuming because it's the most desirable shift), they know me better, and they seem to be more familiar with the coupon policy. That may not be the case for every location, but it's what I've found to be true with my local store. I guess what I'm saying is that it's important to get to know the managers and employees at the store(s) you shop at the most. Once they know your face and recognize you as a honest couponer/shopper you are much less likely to run into issues.

    Paula,
Thank you so much for posting on here from a cashier's perspective. I recently became a Publix shopper and I have to drive across town to shop there, but I love it! The first time I went in with all my coupons the cashier was very nervous about accepting them and went back and forth to the manager several times. I sensed how stressful it was for her and I remained calm and kind and midway through the transaction I felt that she was on my side. She was patient despite the time it took and very careful. I called the manager that afternoon and told him how great she was and the kind treatment she had given me, despite the stress of it. He said that they have a reward program for their employees and she would be recognized. So I encourage everyone who has a positive experience to call you store and report it so these hard-working cashiers can be credited for that. The only grocery store I go to that checks coupons so closely is Publix. Since the others don't accept competitor coupons they don't have to be so careful I guess. It's a real privilege to get to use competitor coupons at Publix, not a right, and so it's worth the careful checking.
  • Catherine
I have had similar mixed signals at Publix. One week the cashier nearly had a stroke when she realized that the coupons would make the items free plus overage! But yesterday I asked the service manager before I went to the register about the French's coupon. She said yes I would get the overage off the rest of my bill because the manufacture pays them face value. She acted like it was a no brainer that I would get overage! I guess some cashiers are less familiar with how it works than others.

Be careful on the Uncle Ben's deal. Only certain flavors are BOGO. I asked an employee on that very aisle and she told me they were all on sale if the original price on all varieties was the same. Wasn't I surprised when I looked at the bill in the car only to discover that 4 of the 6 boxes were not the BOGO price! I will be more careful next time.

At our Publix house hot dog and hamburger buns are ringing up at .89. With the FL coupon this makes them .39! :)
  • Elizabeth, I had the same experience in Duncan, SC today. First time I've ever had a Publix cashier tell me "I will have to do these coupons differently...you can't get more off than the price of the item." I politely said, "I understand, but I have never had someone tell me this at Publix before...." )French's mustard q's for 50 and 75 cents). She called over the manager, he said "scan them" and she went about it normally. I have a feeling change is coming though. The policies here seem to flux a bit.

Hi Athens, AL Shoppers....we are building our numbers! Teresa, did you see that someone posted how to get to the Athens store?

Coupon fraud...how do you know if they are fraud. I HAVE purchased coupons on ebay. For instance, I purchased 10 $2.00/1 similac that came out in the paper a few weekends ago. I have only purchased
real coupons...never Internet coupons. But how would I know if it is fraud????

I am definitely on the up and up and don't want to pass anything fraudulent or take advantage of my store.

I have three computers and can print from each computer....so sometimes I can get 6 of a certain coupon. Is this fraudulent??? I rarely do this as I don't have the room to really stockpile but for the Huggies coupon that came out a couple months ago I did print from all three computers. I looked at it as the same as if I printed it from work and home, etc.
  • Paula
    Teri,
We got a stack from Corporate. The Pace coupon for $4. was in it and so were things like a free roll of Reynolds Wrap, a free case of Purina Cat food (this coupon was sold on ebay). I can't remember all of them, I'll have to check again. Most were for pet food. Most were for free items that you did not have to buy anything to get them.
If you stick with coupons through links (like here on Southern Savers, Publix4pennies, or IheartPublix) you will be fine. I strongly suggest that you don't BUY IP coupons from sources like ebay. You usually get what you pay for. For those of you who do pass counterfiet coupons the fine if you are caught is very steep and it is starting to be looked at the same way counterfieting money. The law is catching up to that. I will try to write up a list, if I'm allowed to.

We also look for numbers on the coupon. Most IP coupons have #'s on each coupon. So if you have 4 coupons for an item, all the #'s should be different. We can not take copies from a copier. The manufacturer will NOT reimburse us for copies.

    Dana,
More and more Publix are not taking Target because Target is not considered a "traditional Grocery Store". As one manager said to me, when we start selling televisions and tents - then we will start taking their coupons.
  • Paula
    Lauren,
I truly appologize for any cashier that ever gave you an attitude. You are so right. You should never walk away feeling badly. Now, on the cashiers side. The attitude is usually not one of contempt for the couponer. It is usually born out of fear of getting in trouble. If they see a stack of coupons come through it is a higher chance she/he will miss something and get in trouble. Also, they have to be fast. You may not give the cashier attitude, but the person behind you in line yells at her after you are done because it took her so long to check you out. Her Customer Service Front End Coordinator starts running to find other cashiers to open to keep the lines moving and that makes the cashier upset (because she will usually "get spoken to" for not letting them know the line will back up or not noticing that it did).
They are not implying you are a thief or dishonest. They are not intentionally saying "there's that couponer again". They love to see you save money. They are just trying to stay out of the wrath of the Customer Service Staff and other managers. You may walk away knowing you did good and you were honest (as most people are), but she may loose her job because of an honest mistake.
As our CS manager has told us. There are 100's of people looking for jobs right now......we can replace the ones that make a lot of mistakes.

I can't seem to find the electrosol coupons when i go to the link...any suggestions?
  • Stacey
Any idea how to find the Baked Lay and Kashi TLC bar coupons? I can't find them at the links posted! Thanks!
  • Just got some Family Dollar Q's from a neighbor. Anyone know if Publix accepts those?
  • Mandy
After looking at this site, I went to Publix expecting to be able to take advantage of the secret penny deal, and match competitor's prices, but they told me here in Florida they don't do that. He said a lot of the deals I was mentioning were specific to the GA state area. I know someone from college who has the website www.mysweetsavings.com who is constantly saying how she gets all of these groceries and only spends maybe $20. I looked at the coupons I could find through the links on this site and hers and couldn't come up with anything that would allow me to do the same. If someone who is really good at this stated what they bought and how many of each, and where they got the coupons for it, that would be more practical for someone like me. I can't for the life of me figure out how to get food to feed everyone with the coupon here and coupon there that maybe saves 50 cents or so on a few things.
I'm taking the suggestion of stockpiling, so when there were a few buy one get on free sales on stuff I know we would eat, I bought several because eventually I'll use them. That saved me about $20, but that was about the extent of it.
How do these people find these things and save all of this money and still get what they need? Am I missing something?
  • Dana
My Publix here in Birmingham recently stopped taking Food Lion q's (which I understand since there isn't a FL in Alabama) BUT they also stopped taking drug store q's AND Target q's. They said they will only take Super Target q's since the local Target is a Super. How ridiculous is that? Whether you print q's off Target or Super Target web sites they are the same q's!
  • KC
When I went to Publix last week the manager asked me to ask you if you know of a certain item that is going on sale (I guess when you review the add) and think a lot of SS girls have the coupon if you could give them a heads up they could get more of the product. She gave the example of Suave shampoo....I meant to send you a note earlier but I got sick this week and forgot :-( Sorry...

the cashier at publix on valleydale (meadowbrook, al) told me the same thing, but then the manager came over and looked at my coupons and allowed them. i am soo confused!
  • lauren
I appreciate the comments from the Publix employees and I understand that in as much as we have to deal with rude cashiers, they have to deal with rude customers, but I am SICK of the certain employees who AUTOMATICALLY treat you rudely because you have coupons. You may have dealt with the fraud that other couponers commit, but at that moment It ISN'T me, it WON'T be me, each person is different. By all means check my coupons (I have nothing to hid so theres no problem there) and see what's going on BEFORE you get an attitude which I am NOT purchasing. Just because one might be saving a ton of money does NOT mean the coupons are fraudulent or something funny's going on. I save a lot every time I shop and it is legitimate and in thanks to this site. It's ridiculous that when I check out I wonder if this cashier is gonna be nice or not because I have coupons. I have my q's in order, I hand them over right away and if there is the rare one that shouldn't be there or is wrong in some way, just explain it to me nicely. People make mistakes. Yes, we know you are doing your job (and we're just trying to save money), I've heard it a million times but the problem is the attitude, can't u understand that? Just check my q's, show me what the questionable transaction is, and let's resolve it quickly because odds are there's a line behind me!! And don't you dare act like you're scanning my q's and then don't and cheat me b/c sister, I check my receipts. Repeat, this is only directed to the cashiers who have done this to me and others. I know this is harsh but I've had enough of it. If you don't like to deal with coupons, then DUH don't work in a grocery store. I WILL save my family money. I do have my favorite cashiers and I'll wait if I have to to go through their lines. God bless you cashiers who do your job well and treat the customers with respect!!!!

I agree with you! I am also in the Charleston area, and although I usually shop at the James Island Publix, I have been to a few others in the area and have found that the more polite and grateful I am, the better the experience. In the 6 months I have been using SS, I have only been denied 2 coupons, 1 was not printed well and the other was the Knox gelatin and the very young cashier was just really confused so I told here not to worry about it and took it off (I have used this coupon several times before and after this experience). I feel so lucky to be saving so much and I have found that the more grateful I am the more the cashier, managers, and all employees are helpful. Whenever I hear a negative experience I get so nervous that this will in turn force Publix to change their policy. I love Publix! Before SS I rarely went to Publix and now it's my 1st stop!
  • Tracy
I noticed several times the coupons are listed as "Home Mailer." How do I get on these mailing lists?
  • Tangela
    Robin
You are so right about the store here in Valdosta. I was at the store this week and had no problems using my coupons. I was able to save $136.00 and only spent $1.65 out of pocket. The store manager was great. And thanks to Jenny for this wonderful site.
  • Susie-Q
I would like to encourage everyone to get to know your Publix manager, personally. I have gone to "Arnold" at the N. Charleston Publix many many times just to say hello and to clarify any questions that I have. The result of this has been above and beyond the BEST service and help anyone could ask for. As a result, he has offered for us to come as groups and he would even give us a room to gather all of our coupons together and shop together ( a girlfriends field trip, so to speak). He asks if I've had any trouble checking out with coupons, and I am honest with him in a positive way, when I've hit some resistance. I have been sharing with many about Southern Savers, and we have quite a "movement" happening. I believe the favor we have gotten is because we don't go in with an attitude of "entitlement". We go in with the attitude of gratefulness for the store's management and employees. My goal when I walk into the store is to give to them things that money can't buy, or coupons can't save and that is encouraging conversation, friendly smiles, and a pleasant attitude. The principle "What you sow is what you reap" has proven very true. So to those of you who are frustrated, I'm sorry, but instead of fussing about what you feel you are enititled to,turn your lemons into lemonade and see if your trips don't become just a bit sweeter. You might be surprised.
  • Teri
Thanks Jenny. Please tell me where on the site I can find those coupons. I have looked all over it and cannot find them. Thank you.
  • Teri
Jenny, Please help me understand about the Rite Aid q's that are accepted at some Publix's (mine does). Today when I went, the CS lady said she was going to call about the Rite Aid q's to see what is up with them. I decided to call myself and spoke to a man at RA who said that the q's come only once when you sign up at MyRiteAid and that you only have access to them once. He said they are currently emailing some out as well. I asked if it was OK to use q's printed from another web site for RA and he said that the only ones online that should be used are the 2 I have mentioned above. Is there a special deal that you know of so that you are able to make these available to us? As much as I love using these and need them to keep our family's costs down at Publix and Rite Aid, I only want to use them if they are completely "legal". Please help me understand. Thanks!
  • Jenny
    Teri,

The coupons I post are usually always housed at Rite Aid.com and so they are coming straight from the company. Past coupons were from the NBA page as a sponsor of some team in the NBA, but were approved by Rite Aid. There is a new one that just came out yesterday that is again housed on the Rite Aid site (meaning it is not loaded permanently here). As long as Rite Aid posts them on their site for everyone they are perfectly legitimate coupons. Hope that helps!
  • Publix Employee
I've been asking my Customer Service Manager about our official coupon policy. Basically there isn't one with the exception of internet coupons. Each store is different based on its location, competition, and the Store Manager. So, again, just ask the store manager. Don't be afraid to ask to speak to a manager when ringing up your order or right after. If your coupon was not used but should have been we'll give you cash for the coupon. My store allows for coupon overage. I know it's frustrating, for shoppers and cashiers alike.
  • Dianna
Did anyone ever get the Beneful/Purina coupon to print? I have been trying since last night. I take the quiz and it keeps coming back to the same page. I have tried restarting my browser too and still no luck.
  • lynn
remeber when shopping the clearance shlf at publix you can also use coupons on that stuff also i get some realy great deals no nonesence pany hose where in clearance this week for 89 cents and i had 3 1.00 coupons free plus overage at least once a week i have coupons for the clearance section and get things for pennies or free +
just thought id share that happy shopping
  • Teri
Paula, You mentioned in an earlier post that certain q's were known to be fraudulent. My Publix said (and showed me the letter) that the corporate office sent a letter saying that the $4 Pace q that was out recently from the game played on their website was fraudalent. Would check that out and post on here? I don't have any more but I'd like to know if I was using fraudulent q's.
  • Elizabeth
It was Publix at Trenholm Plaza.
  • Elizabeth - which store was that at?
  • Elizabeth
Just finished shopping at Publix in Cola - have not had a hard time using coupons til now. The lady checking me out refused to use the Purina Beneful Dog Food coupon with the B1G1 bc it would give me overage - after politely and kindly reminding her that the manufacturer does reimburse them so they don't lose money - she still refused - I then said she should at least reimburse to the paid amount. She finally just ran the coupon thru with much complaint - but 2 people left who were behind me and it was very uncomfortable.

She also would only reimburse the B3 G1 free Mac n Chesse to 55cents - not the $1.09 that it cost - bc that was also and B1G1 free. She basically made each coupon a really big deal after that - pulling things back out of the bags and checking prices ect... Whew!!! Glad that is over.

I did not talk with the manager bc I was with my young child - but may will go check their coupon policies on line tonight. Most of the time - they are very nice and say nothing about the coupons.

I have that CAT, but mine came from Kroger??? ...I think it did atleast.
  • Catherine your Publix prints cats?!
  • Catherine
Just wanted to add that the Catalina machine at my Publix in Kennesaw, Ga printed this:
Buy any combination of 12" DiGiorgo or California Pizza Kitchen pizza varieties between May 17 and June 13 and receive $5.00 off your next order!!

For when pizzas go on sale again - you don't have to have it as a coupon, it will just print a Catalina for you. Details are: buy 3 items, get $3.00, buy 4 or more items, get $5 off your next order. All items must be purchased in one shopping order. No cash back. Offer expires June 13, 2009.

The Publix I was at was on sandy plains road and highway 92 in roswell close to Woodstock. I was there at closing time and there were some things left but pretty much picked over. The lady may have said GA was the ones doing the total reset, to be honest I was in such a state of shock i was only able to half listen to her!!
  • Lb
I just called a couple of Publix's here in the Birmingham area and they said that not all stores do a total reset. But that throughout the year, they all do resets on certain products that are not selling as well and may be discontinued from the store or products that will be replaced by a newer version or what have you. These can happen any time. The manager at the Hoover Publix said there is a shelf in the back of his store that they place their clearance items on and that he only knew of one store that would be doing a total reset in the Birmingham area and that was the one in Vestavia. At the Publix on Deerfoot they put orange or red stickers on the products or mark them with a clearance tag. This manager said the deerfoot store does this almost on a weekly basis. And from what I gathered it's not necessarily the same products at each store. So be on the lookout!
  • M Rose
Robin thanks for that tip----LOVE those kind of deals!!!

    Elneeta-I am having same problem:(
  • Mina
Meredith, that's a very good reason to not accept them; they aren't a local competitor. It may be disappointing that they are discontinuing acceptance, but at least they have an obviously good reason.
  • Meredith
My publix in Pelham, AL is no longer accepting food lion or target coupons as of about a week ago. They said they would not accept food lion becuase there is not one in the state. Bummer!!

I went to Publix today and did the 10$ gift card deal. I called after I left the store and the people at the rebate center said that my total could be BEFORE coupons. So here are the participating products;Chef Boyardee, Hunts Ketchup, Peter Pan, Snack Pak Pudding, Van Camps, Libbys canned meats, Slim Jim, Hebrew National, Guldens, Redi Whip, Crunch and Munch, Fiddle Faddle and Marie Calleders dinners and pot pies. The rebate center number is 888-532-8999. I spoke with Shelley when I called today. I went with the Marie Callendar because it was easy. They were 4 for 10$. I know that there were also some coupons for MC but I did not have them with me so I will probably take them in tomorrow and get some $ back.
  • Robin
I went to my publix today is Roswell, Ga and had the best surprise ever! Apparently Publix is resetting their stores meaning they will all look alike in the future, woohoo! But the crazy part is since they happened to have done it in my store last night they had put out bins galore of items and marked them down to either 50 cents or $2.00 I got 5 cans of formula, some enfamil some similac for $2!! I also got mylicon for 50cents, a ton of bandaids, medicines galore, some cleaning products and so on and on for a total of $68 with my total savings of $553!!!! And on top of that I actually still bought my groceries I had planned to with the help of your site and spent $8 and saved $27! The cashier told me that earlier in the evenng a man purchased 3 carts full of items for a total of $200 but saved over a $1000!!!! What an awesome night!! I joked around asking how I get in on this in the future and she said that they will be resetting two stores a week and so to call around and ask if they have reset yet and if not when they will be and shop the next day and try to get lucky again! I may just do that :)

Thanks so much for all your coupon help!

Thank you so much for this site. It is so helpful and I love it!
I have a question- I am in Charleston SC and some of the coupons in our Sunday paper seem to different than yours. I especially noticed it last week. You would say to pull a certain coupon from SS/10 and I would not have it. I checked with my sister and she was having the same problem. So, are the coupons we get going to be different?
Thank you for all your help!

I only take peelies that are on items that I actually purchase. I feel that taking a peelie off an item that I don't buy is stealing but hey to each it's own.
  • Willowbeth
Oh that pesky Peelie Theif has been to several stores in my area of Tampa, Temple Terrace, New Tampa. She or he only leaves ONE so you will know what you missed. Really Tacky. I used to never take peelies until I was ready to buy the item. Now when I find a peelie that I know I am going to use in a week or two I will go ahead and take what I plan to use, usually 4 or 6. Some people are just greedy. I agree, who needs 50 bottles of A-1?

Thanks again for all you do and you dedication to our cause. Just got back from Publix and Kroger. Did better at Publix than Kroger. Publix spent $21.18 saved $130.97. Kroger spent $32.78 and saved $42.10.

I am new at couponing and have become addicted. However, I find tips like (Target coupon) but I am not sure where to find it. Can you help me. (I am particularly talking about Nabisco Chips Ahoy Cookies for Publix).

I have also seen a Target mailer. I did received a mailer but the item listed was not in it. Does that mean that all mailers are not the same?

    Thanks for anyones help.
  • Mina
jenniferpy1- You're not over-reacting. There are evidently several who hit my favorite store and wipe out every peelie, tearpad, and anything else w/q's that they can get their hands on. I do NOT have time to go from store to store hunting down the leftovers. I've learned to always grab a few of any tear-pad as soon as I see them, because there will be none to be found the next day. I might not have all that I feel I "need" when a good sale comes, but at least I have one or two and know that they really did exist.

I'm starting to wish that places around me would keep those things at the front desk and require people to ASK for them.
  • Mina
Thanks, Paula. Those were the only two q's I had given her for my entire order. Neither was an IP. One was a Publix q which I had carefully torn from their flier before checking out. The other was an obviously legitimate manufacturer's q distributed through Smart Source. I was purchasing more items that those coupons were valid for than the number or value of the q's. The items were regular, not sale, priced.

First, she carefully examined the one from the Advantage Buy flier, rang it up, and then handed me the other and said that the letter from corporate had instructed them that they would no longer take both a store & MQ if either said anything to the effect of "may not be used w/any other coupon" and that wording is on all of their store q's now.

My items weren't on BOGO sale, and neither q was an IP. When I stated (POLITELY - I'm always polite in my transactions, even if I disagree. I spend many thousands per year in stores that I like, and can always just take my business to an establishment that welcomes me. Besides, I try to make the cashier's day happier for having waited on me) that it was my understanding that Publix policy is to accept a single MQ and a single store q, she went to CS. The CS person smiled, and said, "Sorry, we don't allow multiple coupons if any say only one can be used." Since both of my experiences at that particular store have been negative, I've already made up mind to not shop there at all, and consider it an opportunity to visit the friendly Piggly Wiggly when I'm in that area. Heck, there are no Piggy Wigs near my home, and they always have good buys on local produce.

I did call corporate early this morning to ask if there was a policy change, and have not heard from the Dist. Manager. The customer service rep that I spoke to there said that she was in Florida, and was only familiar with her local policies.

I'm just getting grouchy and frustrated from waiting for a definitive answer. I put many hours into creating my weekly lists for the stores where I shop, and matching the q's that I actually have available and am positive are legitimate to what I would like to purchase. I try to avoid shopping during Friday and Saturday when stores are busy. I don't want to do anything that might cause problems for my local stores, or anything that is not a completely honest purchase. My local stores know me as an almost daily customer who is easy to get along with and honest. I want to keep that relationship. (Well, ONE morning manager thinks I'm at least a little weird for going through the Sunday papers to make sure my inserts are all there before I buy them.)

The cereal bars were among other items in my order that I did not present coupons for.

Also, I LIKE that management of individual stores has the leeway to make decisions. That way they are better able to serve their own customer base, and have the flexibility to compete effectively in their own market areas. Right now, the Rosewood Dr. store is on my "stores to avoid supporting" list. Since I have at least 10 grocery stores within 10 to 15 minutes of home, and more that I pass during the day, I'd rather spend my money where I feel welcome.

    Sorry about the "book".
