Friday Finals 12/4

Posted on Dec 04 2009 | By Jenny · Comments

We had a great shopping/budget week until this afternoon.  I learned the afternoon that much like not going shopping when you are hungry, you shouldn’t go grocery shopping when you are sick.  I walked the store buying things that sounded nice to my sore throat without any consideration of price.  I have had a great afternoon of delicious hot tea, tomato soup, ginger ale etc.

Thanks to everyone who voted for “Love This Site” over the last few days.  I sat at my computer drinking hot tea and watching.  It was very fun and while it’s not official I think we won!

Publix:
Total Before Sales and Coupons: $122.31
Total Spent: $ $59.50
Total Saved: $62.81 or 51.1%

This is my really good trip added together with my sick supermarket sweep run.  After doing the math I’m glad that I at least kept us at 50% savings.

Bi-Lo:
Total Before Sales and Coupons: $44.19
Total Spent: $12.77
Total Saved: $31.42 or 71.1%

This might be one of the highest percentage saved at Bi-Lo I’ve had.  It was great trip.

Walgreens:
Total Before Sales and Coupons: $51.92
Total Spent: $2.97
Total Saved: $48.95 or 94.3%

We went just for the Nivea Lip/Lotion Deal and Band-Aids. I went to a different store than normal and met the most wonderful Walgreens cashier.  I hope it’s the start of a great friendship.

Weekly Totals:
Before Sales and Coupons: $218.42
Total Spent: $75.24
Total Saved: $143.18 or 65.5%

I am new here, & LOVE this site. I had a problem at Bi-Lo this week. The cashier wouldn't take a manufacturer's coupon that I printed from the Target site, bcs. it had the Target logo.
The manager agreed that their "new policy" was to only take Publix and Bloom coupons. Neither one seemed to know the difference between a manufacturer's coupon and a store coupon. (But I did, thanks to you!) I was embarassed to argue any longer over $1 with a line forming. Has anyone else ever had this problem? What should I have done?
  • amy
Which Bi-Lo did you go to?? I know that mine is awesome and takes all comp. coupons even riteaid and target. But, on the other hand, 5 miles down the road.. that Bi-Lo will not take any!! My friend used to go to that one and she had no idea what my Bilo did. She called corporate and they told her it was really up to the discretion of each Bilo. So if one store manager does not want to do it.. go to the next bilo but call first just to see. Apparently they all work different??

I felt like coming back to say that this included 4 packs of diapers (I have 2 boys wearing diaps). 2 packs from ingles (used $2q and $1.50q) and 2 packs from Food Lion (used the $3 off plus store coupons). I got my second 2 packs from FL today doing the same deal...didn't want to do too many transactions last night. LOL
VERY VERY happy with this week's deals!!

My week started well when I reluctantly went to WAG's on Saturday night in order to roll an RR and to get one more of the deals on the more expensive first aid supplies that ran last month. I found what I needed, and realized that the Almay BOGO and RR deal overlapped for the evening, since it was late enough for this week's deals to be ringing. So, I got the girls some more MM makeup.

WAG's was FANTASTIC for me this week. Seriously, the most RR's I've ever tended to hang onto at once has been $11, and the most ECB's has been around $20, because I get tired of rushing out to roll those things on stuff I don't need, and just let them expire while I take a few months off. There are times when I'd rather just lose them than feel controlled by them. This week we got resupplied with some things we needed, some supplies for the grandkids, a bit of TP, GoodNites, and lots of other goodies.
    OOP < $10 plus tax
    Value $297
    Saved ~ 96%
Gained $30 more in RR than I started with. That should at least give me GoodNite security for a couple of weeks.

Kroger - 3 gal. milk, 4 loaves bread, all on clearance for $1 and .50
    Value $13.74 before markdown
OOP - $0 (pd. w/OYNO cat from previous battery purchase)
    Saved $13.74 100%

    Publix
    Value - $24
    OOP - $3.50
    Saved - $20.50 (~85%)

Bi-Lo - Was able to redeem some rainchecks
    Value - $25.50
    OOP - $0.50
    Saved - $25 (98%)

Also purchased $36 worth of Swaddlers at RA for $17.50, and 3 packs of wipes at Target for $1.53 (value $4.53), but they were for someone else. So, I'm not including those purchases.

Altogether, still had some miserably sick people to care for at home and their duties to take over, grandkiddos here for part of the week, but I had fun at WAG's this week because those are quick runs, and didn't take advantage of deals I liked at grocery stores because the weather was miserable and I didn't feel like the hours it takes me to set up to grocery shop or do the shopping. I only stopped at stores when I had to pass them during necessary trips. So, no extra fuel expenses. I saved more real money and sanity by not shopping than by going. I also spent the least that I have spent during any week this year.

    Weekly totals:
    Value - $360.24
    OOP - $13
    Saved - $346.76

    Jenny,
I hope you feel better soon! It has been really fun watching the voting results. I encouraged bunches of people to vote! You go girl! You deserved that win!!
  • Vanessa
Hope you feel better soon. Our whole household has had that junk for a few weeks now. The Theraflu from Walgreens (that I made a profit off of) really came in handy. We have gone through two boxes and a bottle of the liquid too.

Kroger: I bought 10 lbs of potatoes, hot dogs, shampoo, hot pockets, crescent rolls, frosting, progresso soup, bread, chips, olay quench

    value: $56.56
    spent: $13.48
    saved: $43.08 or 76%
I've also got 2 rebates to send in for $3.31 each.
I also ended up with 500 fuel points from for november, so I can save 50 cents per gallon on gas this month!!

CVS: gillette body wash and deodorant, nyquil, dayquil, accuchek

    value: $76.99
spent: $1.60 (all tax from gillette)
saved: $75.39 or 98% and I ended up with $3 few ECBs then I started with

    Totals:

    value: $133.55
    spent: $15.08
    saved: $118.47 or about 88%
  • Tommy
    Hope you feel better....

I am still learning...having a blast...thanks for all you do....do you ever get used to the looks you get...makes you feel like you are stealing merchandise when you walk out of stores saving so much!!!
  • brooke
$536.63 dollars worth of stuff for $82.68 from Bloom, Bilo, Publix, Target, Walgreens and CVS with $16 RR's and $10 ECB's left!
  • Bobbie
Hope you feel better soon and also hope you won.
  • Bobbie
Let us know when you find out for sure.
  • Kandrea
Feel better soon, Jenny! I hope the voting lifted your spirits a little bit :O)

My best deals of the week were at Bloom: I made two trips so I could use two of the $10 coupons. I spent $4.72 OOP for $125+ worth of groceries!

    YEA!!!
  • Carrie
Now that's what I call a shopping trip worthy of saving the receipt on!
  • Kandrea
LOL, yep, I'm holding onto those two 'trophies'. ;)

On my first transaction, I actually went negative by .25, so, the cashier asked me to grab a pack of gum...my total then came to .54 for $72 worth of stuff!!!

    That was definitely a RUSH!
  • Carrie
Jenny, I am sorry you don't feel well, just keep sipping the teas, and slide on a thick pair of comfy socks. Utilize those freebies from Walgreens and CVS right now. Test and see how well they really work!
The voting drama was fun to watch from this end too. Much more fun than the political ones on tv.

Looks like Georgia might get a taste of snow tonight or in the morning.

    QQ

I will watch for flurries of any size~!
