Bad News Round Up

I have two bits of bad news for you:

First:  Weekly Cinema is going out of business.  If any of you have ordered Groupons, Living Social or other daily deals for their movie tickets you’ll need to request a refund from Groupon or the site that you ordered through.  Groupon has a promise that they will fix it, so you should be fine… just a little frustrated.  Go here for more details.

Second:  Toys R Us is no longer honoring the gift card in their weekly ad for the awesome Hasbro deal.  They actually stopped around Wednesday and I haven’t had a chance to share.  The ad stated that it was while supplies last and they meant it.  The difficult part is that most cashiers and stores aren’t warning you, so many folks are getting frustrated at checkout and the cashiers have no clue about the gift card deal.

Anyone have any good news to share…

    • Anonymous

Phew, good news is that I pre-ordered my Harry Potter tickets with my Weekly Cinema groupon. Since I already redeemed it through movietickets.com, my tickets are still covered.

    • bradleyr

It's Friday! YAY weekend! How's that for some good news!

      • Rachel L

Hi I am wondering if this means they will no longer honor the gift card when you go to redeem it (for those of us that already have one), or are they just saying that they won't give out any more gift cards?

        • RebeccaFer

It sounded like Jenny was saying they had a limit to how many gift cards they were going to give out. They should honor the card without any problem.

    • Valerie

      Hi Jenny,

There is a new Pampers Gift to Grow Code: Thanks2Veterans

It is worth 10 points. Thanks for all you do! Your site helps me save so much each week!.

      • Grrrowlgurl

So happy for these codes! I haven't opened a single Pampers diaper or wipes to get codes yet (and I have a huge stack from showers already) and I have over 600 points thanks to Southern Savers and a few other sites!

      • Acott

        Thanks for the code!!

      • ChristyMy

        Thank you!!

    • Kelleyharold

I'm so glad I went yesterday to Toys R Us, then. It's a trip to a different town so I'd have been really frustrated if I didn't get the deal. Had issues because of the Milton Bradley/Parker Bros but all of the games still had a Hasbro logo on them, too. I had to get my gift cards (one deal for me + one for my Mom) at customer service. She mentioned something about “while supplies last” but the two closest registers had stacks of them about 7″ high so they definitely had supplies. They were completely out of the Chocolate games, though.

    • Kelley

Another day given to me to praise God and spend time with my husband and son is always good news to me!!

Thanks for all your help Jenny….couldn't stretch our dollars like we do without you! :)

    • Mom3girls1boy

Just called Living Social and they processed the refund immediately. Thanks for letting me know. I was planning on taking my older girls to see Harry Potter next week…

    • Guest

I was at the Toys R Us in Johnson City last night and they were still giving them out; don't know about today though. The customers and cashiers were upset about the 6-hour delay on activiation.

      • Rudydoescakes

They have the delay for all their gift card promotions

    • Shannon

I got a Dinosaur Train game at Khols for 52 cents! It was on sale and then I had a $10 coupon off anything in the store!

      • Leyly

Where did you get the $10 off coupon from?

    • Cynthia Z

I saw thrilled about the Carnation deal & Kroger this week. I planned to avoid the mega event this week (silly- i know, but I needed a week of down time) but then heard about the carnation deal @ .19 after MQ. Best of all- I had 10Qs, so I was able to get 20 cans for $4.18. It was priceless when the bagger said ” That's it!” and her jaw practically dropped. It always makes me giggle when people are so amazed.
      Thanks for all you do!

      • zoe1643

Dumb question, how did you use 10Qs of the same item at Kroger? I live in TX, and I was told that they only accept up to 3 “like” Qs in one transaction. Is it different in different states? Or was my cashier misinformed?

    • ddflamingo

Teeter is now offering coupons loaded on their EVIC card.. i got an email yesterday. they do not double. and one of the coupon can be loaded at one time. if you want another, if it is still an option, you can upload it again to your card. so that is exciting!! :)

    • Kermit11

My Toys R Us in Centerville, GA was stilling doing the Hasbro Gift card when I was there yesterday

    • Lena

I did the $19.99 for 5 tix special that you posted on 11/3 so it wasn't through Groupon or Living Social. Do I just contact Weekly Cinema? I'm very nervous since they have my credit card info. REALLY hoping they don't charge my card monthly or worse! Lesson learned……just because something is a bargain, doesn't always mean it's a great deal. :-(

      • Suzanne

I did that as well. Please let me know if you have any success or instructions on how to receive that refund.

      • Andre

Did you pay with a credit card? If so, dispute the charge asap. You'l get your money back.

    • Ashley

I just got back from my Toys R Us, and they honored the gift card deal for me, no questions asked. Maybe they didn't know it had ended? The cashier and manager were really nice. Way to go Gastonia, NC Toys R Us!

      • Mceccofiglio

I'm in Fort Lauderdale, FL and I too had no problems with it!! :O)

    • Megan_A

I'm excited about the good news about the new eVic coupons that HT sent out yesterday. A cashier told me about a month ago that they had been testing this by letting employees load coupons on their cards, so I've been eagerly awaiting the news!

      • NCcouponer

Is that just for select locations or did everyone get this email? I'm in Cary, NC and didn't get one!

    • Freejunkit

Thank you for letting us know about Weekly Cinema. I'm so disappointed, but at least I know now instead of next week when I was planning on using them!

    • Grrrowlgurl

I got diapers for $2.50 thanks to prinable coupons from Southern Savers with two MCs that I cut out of American Baby magazine that I got for free thanks to Southern Savers post! =)

And Christmas music is already on the radio! =)

    • Laura

Do you by any chance know if any printed vouchers still be honored at the theaters? I redeemed a ticket last week to go to the midnight premiere of Harry Potter and need to know if that voucher is worthless now and I should hurry and buy an actual ticket before they get sold out. I know this isn't your issue, I just wanted to check and see if you knew any more details. Thanks for letting us know!

      • Anonymous

I talked to a customer service rep about this issue and here is what I understood. If you have redeemed and printed a ticket through their partners (movietickets.com or fandango.com) and printed the receipt off of those sites, then you still have tickets. If all you have are weeklycinema credits, then no, those can no longer be redeemed at movietickets.com or fandango.com to purchase tickets. Since I have a receipt to turn in to the box office for movietickets.com for two HP tickets, then I am good.

I hope that makes sense! The link that Jenny put above links to customer service. They have live chat help that was actually helpful!

      • Reymannkids

Laura, if you went through Fandango, your printed voucher is good. That printed voucher is just like going to the theater and getting a ticket.

        • Laura

Unfortunately, my theatre isn't a fandango theatre…it's only a weeklycinema theatre.

          • Anonymous

The way weekly cinema works is that you get codes from them to purchase tickets from either Fandango or Movie Tickets.com (to use at your local theater) and if you’ve already purchased the tickets from either of those websites your tickets will still work.

          • Laura

Actually, I meant movietheatres.com theatre. So maybe it will work then.

    • Corb1232001

Good News—We are all blessed with a great website to utilize for coupons and deals. Thanks for all that you do here!!!!

    • Amy L

If you love Guy Harvey tshirts .. Big Thursday has them 30% off today and tomorrow!! Check it out! Plus most of their other items are also 30% off AND Rainbows are 20% off! How's that for a Fun Friday?

    • mommydub

I just called Customer Servcie at Tippr, the company that had the Weekly Cinema $15 for 4 movie tickets deal back in October. The guy said that they don't issue refunds after 30 days, and this was just over 30 days ( I order my tickets on October 9 and this is November 12). He did say he would issue a $25 credit for something else from their sight. I told him I would like a refund and I'm waiting on a manager to call me. I credit would be better than nothing, but I'm hoping to just get my money back.

      • Andre

Did you pay with a credit card? If so, dispute the charge asap. You'l get your money back.

    • ToddDu

Sorry, but more bad news. If you haven't heard, many basic food prices are set to increase (anywhere from 3-15%) early in 2011. This is due to an increase in prices of raw materials (and inflation becoming a concern).

The good news is we all have the opportunity to create large stockpiles, may want to stretch past 6 weeks if possible, with the savings here.

      • RebeccaFer

We have an Italian Ice business and we will have to be raising our wholesale prices quite a bit next year. We saw sugar more than double from the beginning of this year to now. I have definitely created more of a personal stockpile for items like pasta, sauce, frozen veggies and such because although I hope the great sales continue, they can't be banked on in this uncertain economy.

    • Andrea Hoover

      thanks for letting us know!

    • ChrissyPunkin

I got my Proctor and Gamble $110 coupon book today. Sweet!

    • Tracy

I just got back from my Northern VA Toys R Us and was able to get the deal, but it didn't automatically prompt for the GC. I showed the ad to the cashier who called the manager over who acted like he didn't even know about the deal. He read the ad and then said he would take $10 off one of my items and then charge me for a regular GC (so I didn't have to wait the 6 hours to do the deal again).

I did the deal twice with different games so I could get rebates for all of the items. Then with the 2nd $10 GC I bought a bunch of $1 items for my Operation Xmas Child boxes.

I feel bad b/c I did hear the manager tell the cashier to not do this any more today. He said something about it not being right b/c it's combining 2 deals – didn't make sense to me though.

      • brenda z

Is this the fair lakes one?? I refuse to go to that store anymore due to the fact that it doesn't seem like any of the employees or managers understand how their sales/coupons or anything else even remotely complicated work and they make you feel like it's your fault for trying to save a few dollars in a completely legitimate way. I'm glad that worked for you in the end though!

    • Becca

Just called the folks at Groupon, and they cheerfully offered a refund to my credit card (5 movie tickets for $30 deal) or a Groupon credit. I went ahead and took the credit since I knew that I would be getting something else soon. It was no trouble at all.

    • Msmelmag

My good news………what a beautiful day that the Lord has made…..it is mid 70s here in N AL and could not be any prettier!

    • Angel

Just emailed Groupon about my Weekly Cinema groupons, got this reply.

” Weekly Cinema will be making their online redemption system available to Groupon purchasers later today, and currently their site is temporarily down. We ask for your patience as Weekly Cinema encounters a high volume when the weekend approaches.”

      The plot thickens.

      • Snowski824

I wrote Groupon about my difficulties with Weekly Cinema when trying to redeem my code (had to call probably 40 times before I could get on the loop to actually speak with a rep and then when I did get put on hold to talk with someone I had to wait for 45 min) and that was the same response Groupon gave me when Weekly Cinema was still semi functional.

    • Cgholmes31

I purchased movie tickets via Tippr in October, I just called Tippr and got a refund, awesome customer service.

      • guest

Can't believe you got a person. I tried calling Tippr and they transferred me to voice mail. I'm going to dispute charges w/my AX. I sent an email to Weekly Cinema and here was their response to me this afternoon: Unfortunately, we are going out of business. You would need to contact the deal site in which you purchased for your refund if you purchased a voucher. Thanks, and we apologize for the inconvenience.

    • Candi386

I did the TRU deal 2x yesterday in Gainesville. They had problems and didn't understand why it wasn't giving the cards but gave me the 2 cards. Guess I got lucky.

    • Elizabeth

Today's my bithday….I lived to be another year older. That's good news in my book :)

    • Lindseywarner

I'm Preganat with #2…thats a i'm attached to the toilet but smilling every second news!

    • Briejaobcon

Toys r us honored the gift card advertised for me yesterday. I had to talk to a manager but they did it.

    • Faith

They did the deal for me last night. In fact they just took the $10 off of my purchase instead of the gift card. Yay for cheap games!!!!

    • Stacey0216

I got the deal at toysrus today in Morrow GA with no questions asked!

    • wkenton

I went to groupon's website and expressed that I'd like a refund on my weekly cinema purchase. They emailed me back and confirmed that they will refund my account.
      Very easy!

    • Kim

I went to TRU today too…both the cashier and manager didn't know why I wasn't getting my gift card…so the manager just took $10 off my purchase…guess I was lucky :D

    • Momof3sc

I got the Gift card and so did my friend at the Harbison Irmo, SC location today around 1pm No Problems

    • SweetDenia

Well, this is a bummer – I was hoping to redeem my four tickets to use tomorrow. I tried last week, but had a problem. But….the GOOD news is that I just got home and when I checked my email, Groupon had emailed ME – I hadn't contacted them yet about a refund. Here's what they said:

“We're writing to let you know that Weekly Cinema has unexpectedly closed and wanted to apologize for any inconvenience this causes. We were sorry to hear this unfortunate news and understand it's a disappointment when you do not get to take advantage of a great deal like this one. We made our best effort to make this work, but unfortunately we were unable to assist Weekly Cinema enough to honor the deal. We sincerely apologize for letting you down, but we will do what we can to make it right and get your money back to you as soon as possible.

20 dollars has been refunded to the card you used to make this purchase. If you purchased a Groupon that was good for multiple tickets and used some of them, we have simply refunded the full amount of your purchase. Please allow up to 10 business days for the refund to reflect on your end.

Again, we're very sorry that you were unable to fully redeem this offer and thanks for your understanding.”

Yippeeeee!!!! Now THAT's customer service!!! :-)

      • SweetDenia

Refund showed up in my bank account yesterday. No problems! :-)

      • Tigergrl08

You are lucky you used Groupon to buy the deal. I unfortunately used Tippr for the first and last time to get the same deal. They are HORRIBLE. They don't respond to you and weeks later when they do they only want to give you a credit to the site so I guess you can go through a similar terrible experience. This has been a nightmare and I'm disputing the charge on my credit card. NEVER NEVER do business with them. Groupon is definitely the way to go.

    • Liz

Okay I got my movie tickets from Plum District for Dreamer Pass…. is that still okay? I am planning a b-day party for my son and we were going to use these!!!

    • Anissa

I live in the Charlotte, NC area and I went to Toys R Us yesterday which was Fri 11/12. I bought all 7 games that were listed, except I substituted Operation for Guess Who. I had a $5 off $25 or more coupon that they let me use plus they gave me an immediate $10 off instead of waiting for the gift card in the mail! So I ended up spending after rebates $7 on 7 games! So maybe it's still worth a shot.

    • Lisa

I redeemed two of my four movie ticket codes on Thursday night and Fandango would only give me $10 toward the cost of the ticket instead of $14. I had to pay $4.50 out of pocket. I got mine through Livingsocial.com. If you haven’t signed up for that, use this link and you can get $5 toward your next purchase. https://livingsocial.com/redeem_invite/8277673-dlcarn?ref=lnk

    • Carrie_C

TRUS in Wilmington NC will still honor if you bring in the entire ad. HTH

    • Valerie, SC.

I ordered my tickets through Plum Creek. I redeemed them last night for 4 tickets today. It probably helps that I had the codes written down and didn't have to go through the Weekly Cinema site. I was a previous Weekly Cinema subscriber until about a month ago when they billed me for tickets ($29.99) and never put them in my account. I disputed the charge though. I figured they wouldn't last long.

    • JS

I also went to Kroger and the store front manager checked me out. He said that they are talking about getting rid of the ecoupons because the manufacturers realized people were stacking. Really? Isn't that the point? I have saved lots of money with the ecoupons and would be sad to see them go (and it would also hurt Kroger because I won't by as much because the deals are better at Publix otherwise).

    • bre

I went to Toys R Us on Wed. night and they said that the gift cards hadn't been printing all day. They thought it was a malfunction. However, the manager was wonderful and just took ten dollars off my bill, which was fine with me. Sorry the gift cards are gone. That was an awesome deal..hope many more of you were able to enjoy it.

    • tori729

That's probably why it didn't work automatically for me on Wed. They just sent me to C.S. and she did one for me there though.

    • Andrea

ugh – I wish I had boughtt my harry potter tickets at the beginning of the month!!!

    • hilary

wow – now I don't feel so bad about missing that toy deal! that is pretty bad about them luring you in and then pulling that kind of stunt – kinda stinks!!
