Are you ready for Father’s Day this weekend?  Don’t panic most Dad’s are used to the sleeve of golf balls and funny ties, they won’t mind whatever you give them.  One idea is Dove Men + Care products, available at Kroger.  They have a wide variety of personal care products to help your dad look and feel his best.  Personally I think it makes them smell great too.

I know for some that Father’s day isn’t all happy, whether you are with your dad or just remembering him this year I hope that you are able to remember a few things about what made him special to you.  For me most of frugal nature came from my Dad.  He was always huge on saving for retirement, I can remember him whipping out a calculator and trying to explain compound interest on a number of occasions.  Thanks to him I’ve been saving for retirement since the day I graduated.

The Giveaway:

A Southern Savers reader will win (2) $25 Kroger gift cards – one for you and one for your dad.

My Dad is the Best Dad Ever because he is so Humble and giving. He looks out for others more than he does for himself. He is a great cook and likes feeding others. Coming from meager beginnings, he taught the value of money and being frugal. I am thankful to him for the life lessons that I pass on to my own children.

    • Angela BLack

I never knew my dad, but my Grandpa stepped up to the plate and loved a young girl with every breath!

    • katie

My dad is the best because he has taught me so much! My children love when we get to see him. He continues to help me and teach my children when the moments come.

    • Nicky S

My dad was at work most of the time, but he would take my sisters and I to dinner once a week (while my mom usually did her weight watchers meeting;)). We’d rotate on who decided where to eat and then we’d follow it up by getting some candy at our mall. I loved growing up with that tradition and I think my dad loved it as much as we did!

    • Courtney

My dad is the best because he has always been there for me. He picks me up when I am down and is an excellent pawpaw to my little girl Karson who just turned 2! He has worked hard all his life to provide for his family!

Because he loves me despite it all. :)

    • Jennifer Barbee

My father is a man of character that can not be explained. He stepped up to the plate when my mother left me at 2, He not only had to provide for my sister and me but he had to learn how to put up pony tails, tie ribbons, teach me how to be a graceful young lady, and most of all to be a very independent woman. I would not be where I am today without him, he wll forever be my hero.

    • Beth Felder

    • Selene M.

My Dad worked two jobs to provide for his family. He always had a quick smile for everyone, and in his older years, he continued to lovingly support all of us in quiet ways. He lived with me for 3 years, and wanted to do everything he could to help us in so many ways.

    • Linda

My Dad was the best.Every one loved him.He loved to fight and was not afraid to take care of his own.

    • cbachmann

He is very patient and never complains!!!

    • Kris R

My dad taught us how to build and fix things from things we could find around the house or buy at junk stores. He is great at rebuilding stuff and I love spending time with him. I appreciate his effort on teaching me to use my brain.

    • Rachael Sharpless

I would actually have to speak of my stepdad. He took my mom and I as a package deal. He taught me how to drive, change a tire, but most importantly he treated my mom respectfully. The BEST memories of him and I though were every Wednesday night we would go to Publix and coupon together. I would do the coupon match-ups and he would hold the coupon after we put the item in the buggy. Never failed, he’d drop the stack AT LEAST once every shopping trip and coupons would go EVERYWHERE!!! When we got home, we’d tell mom about the best deals and lay out all of our “stock ups” on the counter. Mom would say, “more laundry detergent?!? How much more do we need?!?” But he learned the coupon game with me! ????

    • Nicole

My dad came later in life. He was there when I was young but didn’t know how to be ‘present’ with us. He didn’t have a good example himself. Now that he’s older, he’s learned how important of a job being a grandfather is to my LO and his grand babies. I’ve watched him transform into this amazing, strong, loving, sensitive man that cares for both his children and his grandchildren. That’s why he is an amazing father and I get to celebrate him every single day of the year. :oD

    • bookie

Dad loves and protects his family.

    • Jess

My dad can always make me laugh, he is always there when I need him and he is a great grandfather to my girls!

    • Alison D

My Dad is the best just because he is mine.

    • Jen

He was patient, kind, involved in charity towards others, set a great example and always took the time to discipline us. I am so proud to be his child and even at 73 he is the most important man in my life.

    • Brenda

My dads the best dad ever because he volunteers with the Amvets and helps his community. And he is a very hard worker.

    • Ann Moore

My dad is understanding and easy to talk to.

    • SunnyAutumnn

He sacrificed so much for us.

    • Isabella Gallivan

My dad is the best dad ever because he finds ways to make time for me and my sisters after he is done being everyone else’s hero. My dad is a police officer and a drill sergeant in the Army. My mom and my sisters and me miss him but we also support his job because he does a good job making people feel protected and safe. We love dad and I think winning the gift card will help my mom with groceries and make dad happy with food. We could make him steak and be his hero instead.

Thank you for listening to me,

      Isabella

    • Katherine

He is always there when I need him.

    • Brenda

My Dad was the greatest because he taught me about Jesus. He always took us kids to Church and Sunday School. I know he is in heaven waiting for me.

    • Jessica J

My dad told me everyday “There’s a world out there!” and encouraged me to go see it! He helped me raise money to go on foreign mission trips and internships and fostered a love for traveling. He mentored that example in his own life as a missionary and by being sensitive to other’s needs, especially those of foreigners. I love my dad so stinkin much and wish I could see him more.

    • ann

My Dad was the best Dad a Dad could be!!!!!When a man would sincerely and secretly assure you that you were his favorite and you believed him with all your heart, yet you find out now from your six sisters he said the same to them…..No man could get away with that!!!!!!He was an awesome father, dearly dearly loved and so very very missed !!! I think of him everyday!!!!!! HAPPY FATHERS DAY to the best Dad ever in heaven!!!!!!!

    • mjeaustin

My Dad was the best Dad ever because he never limited my opportunities. If I asked a question and he didn’t know the answer, we searched out the answer together. When I chose to major engineering, he asked, “Are you sure you want to do that? It’s going to be hard as a woman.” And then he supported me every step of the way.

    • mami2jcn

My Dad was the best cook ever and the best Dad ever! He smoked all kinds of meats and whenever he came to visit me, he always had an ice chest full of meats and goodies, so I never had to cook! We could just relax and enjoy his visit with us and his grand kids! Miss him LOTS!

    • HTaylor

My dad is the best dad ever because he always thought of his six children’s needs over his, had our utmost respect and all with a mild demeanor! He worked long 12 hour days, but yet always had time for us in his spare time. He is the epitome of a great dad role model!

    • Helema Hurst

I do not to have a best dad story for myself. When i see my children play, laugh and interact with their dad. With the water balloon fights and sneaking candy, (cuz mom doesn’t have a coupon for it, lol). I believe they have the best dad they could imagine. My husband takes the time with both of our children with so much patience and his nieces and nephews. He has super dad qualities.

    • Sharon H

My dad was a hard worker and made sure me and my three sisters had our needs met! He drove an hour each day to work so my mom could be a stay at home mom. I miss him so much but I know I will see him again in heaven!

    • kimbo9999

My dad has always been supportive of me and has always been there any time that I needed him. He raised me to work hard, be kind, be respectful of others, to listen to others but not to be afraid to stand up for what I believe in. He has always been a wonderful role model for me and many others!

    • Samantha

He paid my college expenses that weren’t covered by Financial Aid

    • Traleighm

He brought me into this world, protected me and made it so I would never want for anything. He showed me how to save money, helped me get my first job, bought furniture and supplies for me when I bought my first house. He’s still living and by the Grace of GOD in good health.

    • Ruth Ann Lawley

My dad is humble enough to apologize to me.

    • Prathamesh Joshi

On Father’s Day, I can’t help reflecting on all the things my father gave me and lessons he taught me over the years. Although time and distance may separate us, the man you are and the person you’ve made me never diminish.

    • Haydensmommy05

Oh goodness I’ll simplify because I could go on forever! He is caring, giving, loyal man. He raised me and my brother and sister like his own with all the love we could ever need. Whenever any of us need anything we know who to go to! He will help with a listening ear and a story with a moral. The grandkids are his world and treats them with more love than any person I’ve ever seen. That’s why is the Best Dad Ever!

I lost my Daddy 8 years and 5 months ago. Then, I lost my Mother exactly 10 months and 10 days after Daddy :-( Yes, I am an adult, but I do cry just at the mention of them; I MISS them both so much…….My Daddy was my hero and my protector. As a little girl, I had to go many times to hospitals to have my blood drawn or have a Dr. exam me. I was sick and they didn’t know what it was. Daddy was always with me, letting me sit in his lap to have my arm stuck. I also had to take lots of pills, some really big & I had trouble swallowing them. Daddy did anything possible to make them go down easier…..He took care of me from the day I was born to the day he and Mother gave me away at my wedding, and all the way up until Parkinson’s stole his physical & mental abilities. I would never be the wife, the mom, the friend, the teacher or the sister that I am today without the love and guidance of my Daddy and of my Mother :-)

He is always there for me, a friend, a mentor, a supporter, what more can I ask for? He is the best Dad ever!!

    • Mandy Stasi

My dad is the best dad ever because he taught me how to be tough. He wanted me to learn to not only be able to do the usual “girly” things growing up, but he taught me how to fix things around the house, about construction, how to hunt and fish, how to work on cars and be able to take care of myself. Over the years this has saved me thousands of dollars, because I don’t have to call a plumber, electrician, or mechanic every time anything breaks. Thank you dad!

My biological dad wasn’t really part of my life, my stepdad became daddy for me when I was 3. He’s the one who was there when I was sick or hurting, he’s the one who walked me down the aisle when I married my husband (who is a lot like him, just don’t tell either of them lol). He has always been there for me, and I love him very much.

Since he’s gone, I’ve put a lot of things in perspective. I’d be lying if I said my father was “The Best Dad Ever”. He did, however, do the best he could. I miss getting to know him and now that he’s gone, I’ll never have that chance.

    • Cheryl Abdelnour

My Dad died 6 years ago. I miss him so much. I always liked my Dad’s sense of humor. I am a lot like him. He did a lot in his life. Joined the Navy at 17 in WWII. He went on to work as a farmer, in a dairy , a copper miner, a restaurant manger, and worked at a power company. He did many things, made a lot of friends, and most of loved and supported his wife and 10 children. I am very proud of him and his life. I have many wonderful memories.

    • beth dunlavy hoppe

My dad is the best ever because he loves me unconditionally!

    • SmoochTheCook

My dad is the best dad ever for sooooo very many reasons, but the one that is huge is that he stood by me through 17 years of my drinking and never once did he give up- he took me to rehab when I asked to go and even took me to all of my AA meetings and sat in with me for the first year. He’s an AMAZING man!!!

    • Robinbird

My daddy is the best dad ever because he always put his family first when other fathers I knew didn’t put their family first. But, on top of that, he still found ways to give to others, even strangers, who were in need… even if it meant seeing a man on a corner when I was a little girl and rolling down the window to give him his own pair of gloves because it was cold and the man had no gloves. He taught his little girl about giving, and love, and about self esteem. Those are the best gifts a daughter could get from her daddy. I try to spread those gifts to others every chance I get. That is what makes my Daddy the best ever. <3

    • Terry

My Dad always had a huge garden and watermelon patch, and he shared the fruits of his hard labor with many in the community.

    • Brittany Smith

My daddy has been my rock and stability in a very unstable world. He has made many sacrifices to make sure I always come first and come out on top. No matter what question I asked or what topic we have discussed, he has always been honest with me. My daddy taught me how to drive, fish, cook, etc. But the most important thing he taught me is how to be a good person and to respect myself and others. I truly do not know how I would have survived my childhood without my Dad’s advice, love, hugs and support. To me, he truly is the “best dad ever!”

Unfortunately I don’t have anything nice to say about my father. But my husband is amazing!! He works so hard to provide for us and never complains. When he walks in the door our girls run to him screaming Daddy we missed you! It warms my heart to know they have this special bond even though we can’t spend much time together as a family.

    • http://fahling.net Cheryl

My dad taught me to remain active and coached by sports teams when I was young.

    • Daleen

My dad was a really hard worker, sometimes 2 or 3 jobs to support our family. One of my best memories was waking up early on Saturday mornings and going to garage sales with him. Just me and him. Then ending with a Shoney’s breakfast with hot chocolate. The waitress knew us and that I liked the whipped cream piled high in my cup. I lost him on December 28th last year. This is my first Father’s Day without him. No card, phone call. Lots of pictures to go through and my memories! :)

    • lrae17

One of my favorite character traits my Dad possessed was integrity. My favorite story to illustrate this was he and a few friends getting caught smoking past curfew at college. They were caught red handed and the penalty for such wild behavior (back in the day ;) ) was expulsion. The administration told each young man separately, “If you tell us you didn’t do this we will believe you and you won’t be expelled.” My Dad was the only one who told the truth and the only one expelled. I’ve felt such pride in him for this.

    • Gina M (Wild Orchid)
