Today is the National Association of Letter Carriers is running the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.  This is the  nation’s largest single day food drive.  How do you help?  Firstly, place non-perishable food items in a bag (see a list of acceptable foods), then leave it at your mailbox tomorrow morning.  Your letter carrier will pick it up with your mail to be donated to hungry people across the nation!

Since we can easily fill a bag with food for less than $5 I urge you to give generously.  It won’t take us long at all to restock anything you giveaway!!

Note:  This isn’t just for food.  Food Banks also need personal Care items!

I live in the Birmingham area and our postal worker put bags in our mailboxes yesterday with a flyer about it. I thought that was nice, because I completely forgot last year. Thanks for reminding also, Jenny!

Thank you for the reminder! I posted a reminder on Facebook for my friends, too. It was so much fun going through all my Publix bargains, thinking God is so good!

Hello All, I am a Postal worker living here in Saint Marys, Ga. Thanks so much for your kind donations. Last year, our Post Office collected over 5,000 pounds of food thanks to kind folks like you! This year, the goal for our unit is 6,000 pounds. We hope to accomplish this, but, as you all know, people are not giving as generously because of the state of the economy. Please tell your neighbors, friends and family about this important event. Your Donations benefit Church pantries, homeless shelters, battered women's facilities and The Salvation Army Food Bank to name a few. If you miss out today, not to worry. You can still take your donation to any Post Office (any day) and we will deliver it to a local pantry. Thanks again fellow couponers. Many Blessings! Benja Thomas

I can really take donations to any post office any day? I missed today :( I've been waiting for this but was so busy I totally forgot and the mailman is gone already.

      • kelleyharold

Thanks for letting us know we can take it. Last year I put out a few bags but they didn't get picked up. This year it snuck up on me, so I am glad to know I can take it to my P.O. later.

    • Jenni

Thanks for the reminder! I forgot, but my mail carrier hasn't been by yet, so here I go to go collect a bag together…

    • JennyU

thanks for the reminder! I managed to get out there with my bag full of stuff as the mail truck pulled onto my street. The only thing sent in the mail about to me was a month ago, and my memory does not last that long!

    • irisfaith

Jenny, thanks so much for posting this!

Hey y'all – this is a great way to donate those free Depends (etc.) we picked up at CVS this week!

    • kcreviews

I left a bag of things and saw the mailman take it a little while ago. It sure did help that I had been stockpiling cereal!

    • Jennifer

Before being introduced to your website I would not have been able to find that many items to donate so quickly! :) I didn't know the post office did this, so thanks so much for the info. Our nearest food bank isn't very convenient, so this was a great opportunity to give!! Thanks again for all you do! You are a blessing to so many!! :)

    • dianecatherine

I put my bags out this morning. The mailman came by about an hour ago but never picked them up. ?? Any chance they are sending a different vehicle around to collect? I guess I'll leave them out there for now and wait and see…

      • johnsbrownsugar

Hi, some Post Offices send two different Carriers on food drive day, based on the volume of mail. They are actually delivering and picking up at once and can't hold it all. If they missed it just put it back out Monday. Thanks for giving!

    • JDaniel4's Mom

I put out some things today. Thanks for the reminder!

    • Moorebuilder

I put out 2 bags and they only took one of them?

    • carolinamom21

I just found out about this. My mail man has already come by. If I leave it on monday will they still pick it up?

      • johnsbrownsugar

By all means, PLEASE leave it out on Monday. They will still pick it up and deliver it to a pantry. Thanks

    • esturm1

If I had known about it in time, I would have put stuff out. :-( Last year the post office people put a note in my box about it ahead of time.

    • We just got back from our local food bank and we had 11 truck loads!!!!! That is the most we have ever had! Praise God!

    • Ivey

My mailman did not pick mine up either!

    • Heather

Thanks so much for posting this. I requested this be posted. I am a mailman. Please leave your food on Monday if you did not know. We will still be picking up food. Thanks to all who gave. I used harris Teeters Triples last week and was able to donate about $300 for $50.

      • johnsbrownsugar

        Great job fellow Postal Worker!

    • jeffswork

I gave 5 bags, just getting in to couponing myself. I hope that I can give more next time, it is such a good cause. I had already plannd on taking all the free womens items to a shelter anyways. I get it because it is free or next too free. I picked up the Kotex U's today and the Bayer meter so I could donate as well. Thanks to Jenny and the US postal Service, I thank you all.

I put my bag out this morning & the neighbor child saw a pedestrian walking by STEAL the bag! I am so disappointed!

      • camib

I had the same problem! I put my bag out about an hour before the mailman came and after about 20 minutes I noticed that the bag was open. Someone stole some rice and soup out of the bag. My only hope is that they really needed it.
