A thought… You will not get much closer to free, so if you don’t need, like or want this item, then give it away. There are many folks that would probably love it!

I can't seem to find this in my ad. Where is it located?

      • Joanna

It's not in the ad. They post a sign on the doors and the display the first day of the new week. The coupon is in your local paper, usually in the Lifestyle section. Here in Marietta, GA you can get a copy of the coupon from customer service.

        • Campfyremom

I sure wish it was available in Florida, I feel left out, especially when this is where Publix began. :(

          • Cindylou

I know right? Have you ever asked in Fl whey they don't have penny item? I would love to know too…lol I hear they don't give senior discount in Fl either..that one I can almost understand..since they probably have a lot of seniors there..but you would think they would have the penny item…

      • Amandae21

I can get mine in the store the same day… Flowery Branch GA

        • Kim3

You must shop at the same Publix I do!! Corner of Spout Springs & Friendship Rd?

      • Cindylou

It is NOT in the ad flyer..it is in the Wed or Thur local paper normally somewhere in section a… it will be in the paper on whatever day the new ad starts. Here in SC it is Wed….always in wed paper…

    • Muffinstuff1

The coupon is in the newspaper, not in the Publix ad. Here (Birmingham) it's on page 2A of the Birmingham News.

    • Norma

My new Publix deals start on the 16th yet I cannot get the SSavers website deals until the 17th. What up with that?

    • guest

Not worth it to me.. It would cost me a small fortune in gas ( I live on the other side of town from this store) and then another 10 dollars for food purchases just to get a store brand salad dressing for a penny.
Publix is a very expensive grocery store. Use your head people..what a gimmick just to get you into their high priced store to shop.
      NOT me…

      • Sis2

Hmmmm. Well, hope you are getting good deals somewhere else then. I love Publix and they have great deals. I can get more for my money at Publix than either Kroger or Walmart. But to each his own.

      • Rebecca

I used to think the same thing about Publix but since using SS, I am hooked. I have “purchased” so many items for FREE from Publix. I don't even shop at a drugstore b/c I can get great deals at Publix. If you are using your coupons and the lists that Jenny compiles, then you will save TONS of Money at Publix.

      • Allison

I actually began using Southern Savers so I COULD shop at Publix. There really is no comparison for a shopping experience. I actually spend less at Publix than the other stores, especially Kroger and Food Lion, because I don't have to buy 10 items, etc (or count the items!) and I can just buy the sale items each week. Publix is awesome!

      • MMoris

Yes, Publix is expensive if you buy things that aren't on sale and without coupons. However, items that are on sale and that have coupon match ups are by far the cheapest at Publix! I cannot tell you how many items I have gotten for free (besides the penny items) because of their sales and coupons. Walmart prices can't hold a candle to Publix if you use Jenny's lists!

      • Amandae21

I agree that Publix is over-priced. Mine is right beside my (beloved) Kroger. I only go in to buy sale items that are matched with coupons. But when you match sales with store coupons and mfg coupons, you do get seriously awesome deals. This week, I bought Birdseye steamer veggies for about .60 each (usually $2.20ish at Kroger and more at Publix)… item was B1G1, had mfg coup for $1 off 3 and a store coupon for $1 off 2… bought 6 and used 5 coupons.

Anyway… just saying. Getting good deals there can be done, and if you're already going to be spending $10 there (for instance, I wait until Wednesday to do my Publix shopping so I can take advantage of the penny offer regardless of what it is) then it's a good deal.

      • Rebecca D

I used to strictly be a Kroger shopper, until I started using the Southern Savers website. I realized that it only took one good B1G1 item to equal using 3 or 4 coupons at Kroger. (i.e. B1G1 Prego or Ritz crackers). I easily save 40% on my grocery bill using manufacturers coupons, store coupons, competitors coupons & B1G1 sales at Publix. I was a skeptic too until I saw the coupon matchups on the SS website. Please don't think that all us Publix shoppers are sheep, dazzled by penny items. Try it for one month & if you shop as this website recommends you will be hooked!

      • Cindylou

Dear “guest” I do NOT know where you get your information, or what YOU buy at the grocery store, but Publix has some of the BEST sales around!! Every week, many BOGO's and many unadvertised sales!! You need to pick up a yellow and a green sales paper at the front of the store..they each have many coupons that are good off items that are on sale for about 6 weeks. Everyday prices are no higher than other stores in my opinion, and as far as the penny item goes, most always a very good value. sugar, paper towels, 1 lb bag of coffee, large bag of chips, box of cereal, laundry detergent, hot cocoa mix, and a 16 bottle of salad dressing..these are a few of the things that I get for a penny at my store on a regular basis. I can't tell you when I bought sugar for more than a penny! WELL worth it!!

      • I'll admit that I'm in love with Publix, especially since I can get such great deals with BOGO's and coupons. I will shop at Kroger for some sale items, meat and milk (lots cheaper) but get most of my groceries at Publix. I routinely save around 40% or more. Their service just can't be beat. I sent an email to corporate and the store manager called me to thank me. It came up that I coupon and he listed of what competitors they took coupons from. I told him I didn't like to use them since Publix wasn't reimbursed but he actually insisted that I take advantage. I love this store.

      • Gettobobs

You are obviously interested in saving money because you visited this site and looked under the Penny Item link…. so why dont you just try one week and print the coupons and see how much you save by buying an item at its lowest cost plus coupons!! Where do you shop…Walmart?? Ha, their stuff hardly goes on sale. Most ALL of us on here get grocery items for PENNIES just by following the guidlines Jenny says…not just the one penny item. You'll see.

    • Anna

I think the penny items are great. If you use you coupons correctly you can get $10 worth of groceries for $3 and get the penny item. I think it's fantastic. I spent $44 last week and saved $87. My buggy was full and one of those items was a roll of paper towels for a penny!

      • Dixiechick9598

i am new at this couponing. Still learning alot.
Can you explain the penny item and how it works?
        Thanks!

        • Zombiemommy

You buy 10 dollars worth of items (before coupons) and you get the penny item of the week.

        • Cindylou

yes, Dixie..here is how it works at my Publix… very simply, you must have the the coupon from the Wednesday local newspaper..it is normally in the section “a” in our local paper The post & courier..it is called the “mystery coupon”. IF you live in Mt. PLEASANT..also look at the Harris Teeter ad..they have a $10.00 off coupon that Publix takes!! Then just buy a total of $10.00 in order to get mystery item that changes week to week for ONE PENNY. At the Parkwest Publix it was as listed, Publix salad dressing. My store also has it in the front of the store with a sign that says “.01 Mystery item” If you plan to use the Harris Teeter coupon you must have $40.00 left as total AFTER all other coupons and discounts… YAY!! that is all there is to it!!

      • Terri lane

I had a CVS coupoon the other day, and they told me they stopped taking competitor's coupons unless they were from another grocery store (but not drug stores).

      • germ

i work for publix… they have started whittling down the competitor list… most stores will accept target, and all other grocery store coupons… i don't know if walmart makes coupons or not… but they would accept those as well. just a fyi

    • Our penny item is never the same as posted here. It is a very new store like this month new… maybe they are just out of wack. :) I love Publix and today got Sugar for a penny. Spent 7.52 and saved 26.21. Can't beat a great deal! That even included milk and chicken. Thanks Jenny!

    • Groovybree

Is there a limit on the penny item? Can you only get one per ten dollar purchase or one per person or as many as you want? Thanks!

      • Gabi

I guess if you had multiple coupons and went to the store more than once, you could get more than one penny item. Normally, you get one per person per week. HTH!
