      • Cjmilburn06

I was so excited about this…I got a TON of stuff for my classroom and did manage to find out about the teacher limits before checking out. It was not until i got home that I realized I was miss charged for my items at Staples, Office Max, and Office Depot! So irritated. Two I know I can fix, how does someone trust me that I only bought 2 packages of paper when they charged me for 3. I can only get a rebate for 2 :( I can't go back today as they are closed now.

    • Shelleyschu

Thank you Jenny!!!! Love this list! Trying to buy school supplies on a tight budget is tough!

    • oneplustwins

So is it better off to wait until closer to school starts (Aug 15 in Cobb County)…will prices go lower (based on previous years)?

      • Maryljames31

Cobb County starts the 15th! Paulding County starts the 3rd. Summer vacation went by so fast for us!

        • Mstw

          Cherokee Co. is Aug. 1….UGGGHHH

          • Aking3

            September 8 here in MI

      • Swaltz

yes they go cheaper but- best options for backpacks and lunch boxes are early and my kids need special colors for folders so i get those early… if you can wait things are cheap AFTER school starts

        • Tana

I agree with you – and you can always buy stuff now, keep your receipts and return it if it gets cheaper.  I have bought most of my stuff already just to get it done and to keep from items  getting picked over.  If filler paper goes down a couple of cents – no big deal.  I am just going to watch for lower prices on big things like reams of paper, binders, etc.  No need to get myself crazy over saving $0.15, and I DEFINITELY do not want to fight crowds of people waiting until the last minute :).

    • Allie :-)

I might attempt to buy some school supplies this week, but from previous years experience, most supplies should go on sale super cheap next week and the week after…I can't wait to long since school starts here on August 8th :-(

    • Juliebear73

For my fellow teachers: when you go to Staples, Office Max, and Office Depot, tell them you are a teacher. They will usually allow you to buy more than the published limit on some items. For example, Office Max has folders for one cent, limit 5. Teachers can buy 10. At Staples this week, this applies to the penny deals. (glue, cap erasers, and Bic pens) Teachers can buy 25 of the penny items instead of the published limit of 2.

      • Lyndsey

Thanks for the info! I'm a new teacher this year and don't know about all if the discounts yet.

        • Amandahoge

          me too!

        • Smamf1922

ALWAYS be sure to ask if there is any discount for teachers…can't hurt and definitely helps. (retired teacher here)

    • Tagtenn

Just an FYI…the $.25 multi purpose paper at Staples is AFTER you do the mail in rebate so you're out of pocket over $ per package first.

    • Amanda M.

Wal-mart in Cleveland, TN had 1 subject notebooks for 20 cents.

    • Monaleon42

Here is St. Lucie County, Florida — the public schools have a dress code/uniform policy.  Anybody know the best deals on school uniform clothes?  ie: collared polo shirts, khaki shorts/skorts, etc.

      • Mdrye1

Old Navy had polos for $7.50 and khaki shorts for $10

        • Mjbraun70

WalMart.com – clearance had girls polo’s 4/12 and free shipping to your house.  Cost me 12.83 with tax yest.

          • Rita

Yes – I just did the same thing last night 4 for $12, zero for shipping to home and .78 tax.  And the Walmart polo shirts have held up better than some I bought at Gap last year.

      • Reddfamily3

I know that childrens place has them, and if you can catch them while they are having a % off sale going on you may get some good deals, and Gymboree was having a sale on uniform clothing not sure if its still going on….

      • Rockerchic4b

I work at Belk and we have Uniform clothing (in my store in NC) you should check there… and the prices are always good… if you need kids sizes check the jkhaki brand… if you need jrs sizes girls or boys check out the red camel for him and grane or red camel for her…
        hope it helps!

      • Keldansmom

My experience is that Target's uniform clothes are cheaper and hold up better than any others I tried.  I get enough to get through the first week or so and they usually go on clearance pretty quickly after school starts.  I have had no problem stocking up @ 75% off.  Good luck!

    • Thomasmom

Mechanical Pencils, 2 ct., $1 w/ in-ad coupon.  This was gone at my store on Monday morning and no more coming in this week and NO raincheck.

      • Vicky

Every sell item was sold out at my Office Max on Monday morning and no more coming with NO rainchecks. When I asked about it I was treated like I was trying to rob the store or something. I just don't understand how you can sell out of something with a limit of 1 in one business day if you are stocking items like you should. I call corporate and they said it was up to the individual store and out of their control. In my honest opinion it is more of a scam to get you in the door than to buy other items and they only have a handful of the sell items in the first place. At least it is this way with MY Office Max. I will not be bothering with their sells anymore.

        • Carol_R

I wouldn't expect Staples, Office Max or Office Depot to have any of the really good deals left on a Monday. I know for Staples store I went to on Sunday they were already out of a bunch of items but I wouldn't expect anything else for the 1cent and 25cent sales. They did have stock but people were coming in droves and it was clearly stated on their ads (which were available way before Sunday) that those items were limited to stock in the store. Peope know that if you want those items you need to go Sunday when the sale starts. You snooze you lose.

          • Amanda

Staples have PLENTY of supplies left. I have went every day so far! The stock lady said they have 1,000's so they won't run out!

            • Juli

Maybe some Staples do, but the Rome, GA store was out of the glue, the pens and the sharpies at lunch yesterday.  I was told by a man doing stock that there weren't anymore in the back.

            • Carrie

My Staples was out of the glue and the sharpies but told me there would be another truck in this week.  He said people were lined up at opening Monday am and Staples lets teachers get 25 of each item with a school id so that could contribute to them being out so fast.

        • Melissa

I went to Staples around 5:00 in the evening on Monday and they still had plenty of sale items. They were only out of 1 thing – the .25 mechanical pencils. But I was still able to stock up on plenty of other things.

    • Roseyposey

CVS has Expo dry erase markers at $1.99 for 4 this week.  Better deal than the Walmart price of $1.47 for 2.

    • Cindy

How do you use UPromise coupons at Publix when they don't have a saving card like the other grocery stores?

      • tmama

ask customer service for upromise shopper card- it's light green color.  you then register the card @ upromise, and then present it @ check out.

    • bingmom

Yesterday at Target the Papermate Eagle pens 10 count were $1.02.  I used two Target coupons for $1 off each package for a total of 4 cents for 20 pens!

    • what about DRY ERASE MARKERS?! Anyone know of a good deal on those in Central Florida?

      • amy

I found 4 packs of EXPO markers for $1 at the Dollar Tree!

        • couponuser

Are they the Expo brand markers? Some of the cheap brands mess up our dry erase boards. I only use Expo on my board.

      • Amy B

There are 2 packs of EXPO black dry erase markers at Target for $1.50. I don't know if this is the best deal around, but I went ahead and got them–dry erase markers are always my budget busters; that and jumbo glue sticks!

    • Janet

CVS has a 4 pack of Expo dry erase markers (blue, green, red, and black) for $1.99. That is the best price I've seen for dry erase markers. They have the thick ones and the fine tip ones!!! I'm sure Walmart would price match!

    • TabithaIlges

With office max, do you have to spend a seperate five dollars for each one penny deal or can you spend just 5 dollars and get all of the deals for one penny apiece?

    • Alison V.

united way collects school supplies for needy students.  now is a great time to collect for campaigns such as that.  we went to walmart last year during a no tax holiday and got a huge bag full of school supplies for $10 to donate!

    • Nmckeown

This is the BEST Jenny.  THANKS!!!

      • Nmckeown

Can't I just take this to Walmart and get all my school supplies at 1 place with their price matching?

        • Keisha Morris

You can, just make sure you bring all your sale fliers from the stores as proof. :)

    • Amy

Jenny, thank you for this list. School starts August 8th here and I'm so grateful to have this list to make things easier (and cheaper)!

    • guestsc

When price matching at Target will it matter that most items are store brands or brands they dont carry. ie Staples or Schoolio.  Can we get their brand of like item?

    • Thank you so much for this post.  I was hoping just yesterday that you would do this for us.  Thank you!

    • Stacey

WOW!  Thanks for putting this list together!  AWESOME!!!

    • Abigailfr

my office max ad had a $5 off $25 purchase coupon

    • Amanda

Staples will have pencils, index cards, and 2 pack of highlighters for 1 cent starting this Sunday with a minimum purchase of $5. Teachers, if you show your id card, they will allow you to get a limit of 25 per penny item only!!!!

      • Jennifer

is there a limit for how much you can get?

        • Yvne Online

There is a limit of 2 of each penny item.

      • Sundaydrive00

Is it a min. of $5 per 1 cent item? Can I just get $5 worth of something and get  highlighters, pencils, and index cards in the same transaction?

        • Yvne Online

You can buy all three as long as you spend $5 once.

        • Chell

The minimum $5 does NOT include the special priced or extra value items. You have to buy other items that are at least $5.  They can be on sale(a regular sale) but not an exceptional deal.

      • Frances

Does this apply to homeschoolers?  Can you show your Home School Legal Defense card?

    • Deyna115

I paid $32.67 for a XBOX 360 and my mom got a 17 inch Toshiba laptop for $94.83 being delivered to our house tomorrow by FedEX. I will never again pay expensive retail prices at stores. I even sold a 46 inch HDTV to my boss for $650 and it only cost me $52.78 to get. Here is the website we using to get all this stuff, GrabPenny.com

    • Leeannabowers

Toys r us has 25 pack crayola crayons 4 for $1, you have to buy 4, but a great price.

    • RayS70

Target has 1 subject notebooks for 20 cents and Rose Art 12 pk colored pencils for .75.

      • Amandahoge

is this in a certain place?

    • jennifer

Was it tricky to get started? I've always wanted to try websites like that, I'm just hesitant to start because I've always thought “if it looks too good to be true, it usually is.” I sounds like you've been really successful though…

      • Smamf1922

Jennifer< I was skeptical too until I got the FREE Kodak printer at BEST BUY back in May for taking in an old printer to be recycled.  I kept thinking it was a hoax but walked out w/ great new totally free printer!  Wish everyone had taken advantage of that deal – only knew one other person who did.

    • martensboysmom

Thank you SO MUCH for this. Also, I found Kids Fiskars Scissors for $.99 at Walgreens, my son's school prefers them to use this brand. Cheaper than walmart!

    • MSTW

Target in Cantonl, GA has composition notebooks for $.40 each.

Also want to share my find of the day…The same Target has an entire rack of boys blue jeans marked 75% off, Cute jeans at that. I bought my son 3 pair today for $3.24 each. Yes you read that right  $3.24 WOOOHOOO!!!

      • Couponbizy

If you need more jeans, go to the Target website you can print off a coupon for $3 off of denim jeans.  I think it is only for men's or ladies.  But you might find some markdown there also.  Mine had Men's and teens for $5-$8 the other day.  Got my daughter a pair for $2.98!!

    • monica

At Staples, if you are a teacher, you are able to buy up to 24 of the pennie items. You just have to tell them!

      • sssss

I got 24 glue for 1 cent  at Staples then went to Walmart and he lef me get 25 more for 1 cent with the Staples add,  Great deal.

    • Radman6ga

walgreens also has with in store coupon filler paper 2 for $1 and index cards .39 cents!!!

    • Lwhetzel624

Target has the best deals out after using their coupons, bought 2 packs of 2 sharpies, 4 packs of bic pens, 2 packs of paper mate pens, 4 scotch tapes and the comp. notebook all for $2.00!!!!!!!! GREAT DEALS FOR SCHOOL, WORK OR HOME

    • Mommylovesqpons

Here is a question for busy mom's. Our school sells school supply bags with everything you need already in it. my 3rd grade bag is $56 and my 5th grade bag is $60. It includes the kleenex and hand sanitizer. Is it worth my time and effort to find the deals or should I just write the check and be done with it? I am tempted to be done, but if I could get the supplies for much much less, I might be willing to shop around.

      • Southern Momma

Our school provides this as well but I did it one year and the stuff was a bunch of crap, cheap stuff that was broken before Christmas break. Not only that but the stuff the school buys isn't “cute” and you know how these kids want the “cool” stuff. This is an easier option I will admit but take into consideration you likely wont be getting good quality supplies.

      • Leapgirl1964

Our school offers the package for about $65, which I bought the first year.  But the second time around, I thought I could do better, and I saved about $40 doing it myself.

    • Elizabeth

Thank you for this! I just finished my first year teaching and this was big help to wallet as I stock up for the coming year!

    • Sam

Target in AL has 1 subject spiral notebooks for 20 cents (NO LIMIT!!)….I got tons for my classroom.

    • Heidi

Office Max question:   If you use a 5 off 25 coupon and only buy the 100% rewards items do you get the full rewards on the items or do they deduct the $5?

      • Heidi

        I meant Office Depot!!!  sorry

        • Sarah

          You get full rewards!

    • mary

Kroger has 70 ct sheets, wired notebook .15 each, no limit posted….

    • Allison

Can you add ink too? As a teacher, I go through a LOT of ink!

    • Walmart has one subject notebooks for $0.20…

    • Sarahruf

Office Depot gives you $2 in Worklife Rewards for every recycled ink cartridge you bring in and $2.50 for every ink you purchase.

    • Veruca686

My little girl needed glasses for her first year of school, got them for $34 and free shipping at ispecsonline.com…..they were cheaper than Wal-Mart!

    • hechisera
