    • monica

There are many things at Walgreens cheaper this week than prices listed, highlighters 9 cents, 10 ct. papermate mechanical pencils 39 cents, etc. Very worth checking it out.

      • Steph @ Wags

The ad for Walgreens is not good at every store. Only select regions have the back to school ad this week. It will be repeated at the other stores according to their regional BTS dates.

    • Ibfree47

why not take the ads to walmart? They match.

      • JennyBmom

Exactly!  Please don't give your money to that greedy company!  Wal-Mart is awful!!!  I have truly given them atleast two dozen chances to improve.  Everytime I'm there, they hate coupons and they don't want to match any ads.  There corporate policy on ad matching is a scam.  A total lie.  My Wal-Mart DOES require all ads and they never match anything that they don't want to.  If it's too cheap, they always have a reason not to match like “This requires a Kroger Plus card and we don't have those.”  Ugh!  I pray that Wal-Mart goes out of business in my lifetime!

        • JennyBmom

And by the way,Target matches ads AND they don't mind your coupons!  Nor will you have to miss your child's graduation, wedding, first child, etc. while you're waiting in line.

          • Belle

            I agree JennyBmom!
The coupon policy looks good on paper, but it is getting the store to implement the policy that is the problem. I have complained to Walmart via email, facebook and even called, but I get the canned response of regurgitated coupon policy verbiage without explanation as to why the store isn't honoring the policy. Stick a fork in my business going to Walmart because I am DONE.

          • The Target we live near does not price match, they laughed me right out of customer service when I asked last month :(

            • MarieNC516

No, they are supposed to price match. Print out their corporate coupon policy and take it in with you.

    • Tyler

Anyone know where large legal pads are on sale?

    • Babysnuggles83

anyone no how much the notebook paper is at rite aid

    • 70 sheet 1 subject Mead notebooks at Target were .50 last Thursday.  Inside the cover of each are $6 in coupons including coupons for mead vinyl binders and the Five Star Flex notebinder included in the CVS ECB deal. They are manufacturer coupons with an expiration date of 9/10/2011 (Mead) or 12/31/2011 (Scotch). In case one of these products is on your must-have list, here's the run–down.

$1 off Scotch Restickable Shapes, Strips, or Tabs
$1 off Scotch Pop-up tape dispenser
$1 off Scotch Ultra Edge Non-stick Scissors
      $1.50 off Scotch Poster Tape
.50 off any Mead vinyl binder
$1 off any Five Star Flex Notebinder

    • Jody

Thanks Jenny! I am just starting to get school supplies together and was grateful to see this list. You have and continue to make shopping and saving money easier, thank you so much!!

    • Monica

Target will only price match if the other price is WITHOUT a card,  For instance, I tried to price match the Kroger Crayola crayons for 25 cents today, but she said it was with the Kroger card so they wouldn't match.  Okay no problem I will go give Walmart my money.

      • instantphoebe

You might get a cashier who will let you at Walmart, but generally, Walmart does not let you price match with a store card either.

    • mhrn97

Just wanted to thank you for this post. I was just about to do a back search for good deals this week for my shopping day tomorrow. I love your blog and you do such a great job. Thanks for all your hard work.

    • Scottpluskelly

If you have a Max Perks card, backpacks are free (100% back) this week at Office Max.

      • blessedinsc

Technically, they are not free and neither is any item in which you pay money and then receive all the money back in some form that isn't cash (like Rite Aid's rebates – – that is really free).  Remember that you ARE paying out money for the item.  If you then use the “bucks” or whatever the store calls the store money you get back, and you use that to purchase something, then its like getting both of those items for half price, not free.  Of course when you can roll the bucks on and on and on then the price per item goes increasingly down.  I used to buy some of the “FREE” things on this site that I didn't especially need but figured since it was free, I should get it and donate it or use it as a gift or whatever but I am on a tight budget and stood back [{Its easy to get caught up in the couponing excitement}] and realized I was really  paying and sometimes paying a lot just to get the “bucks” which then required me to use these in their store.  Sometimes a bargain is to be had and sometimes not.  If you really need the item and are going to have to buy it anyway and the price is good to begin with, then its a good deal.

        • amy

I agree with you, however, I did this backpack deal last year at Office Max and the rebate comes as a check, not as store “bucks” so this really is a good deal.

      • Brynd

In Florida – we have .01 index cards, .01 pencils and .01 Sharpie highlighters at Staples- with a $5 purchase- and if you have the 15% discount card with them, the printer paper and a set of pens are more then free…

        • Jamie

Wow, we have those same items but they are .10 here in NC, at least in my area.

    • Jimandrachael10

    • Stacey_gaffney

Has anyone seen large glue sticks on sale? I need 12 of them – uggh!!

    • Michelle

I just wanted to leave a comment about giving and what a difference it makes.  My husband and I have 5 little boys, 4 in school, and as you can imagine, between school clothes and shoes and supplies it's a lot!!  This year, despite my best efforts, and his–he's self-employed–we find ourselves in a bit of a squeeze financially and I was worried about what the children were going to need, and how we were going to pay for it.  So, I began to pray that the Lord would just help me find what they needed, and that He would make a way.

I learned last week that a number of churches in our area got together and made a donation to our school system and just about supplied everything the children in the elementary building.  For instance, my 2 younger sons, each need a 1″ 3-ring binder, and for my older son, he needs a tub for under his desk and a 1 1/2″ 3-ring binder.  That's it!!  (Our oldest son is in high-school, and the teachers pass out their list on the 1st day of school).

The efforts of these churches, and I'm sure they're not all of the same denomination has been such a blessing, not just to me and my family, but to all the other families of these children.  I'm trying to find out who they are so that I can send a thank you letter, but just wanted to post this little bit of good news here.  How wonderful that these good people worked together and helped so many!!  That's what I love about Southern Savers, not only are we saving, but we're encouraged to help others.  Have a wonderful day, all.

    • Rfarmer5125

Does anyone know where to get a decorated pencil box? not just the plastic ones. the kiddo is wanting a “cute one” also any deals on lunchboxes?
      thanks for all the help

      • Guest

I saw some really nice decorated pencil boxes on sale at staples, i forgot the price though

    • Brandi

      What about Walgreens?

      • Liz

I was wondering that myself.  I just got 50 cent paper, 39 cent index cards and cardholders, and 19 cent pack of (10) pencils.  They also had a pack of 10 PaperMate mechanical pencils for 39 cents.  :)

    • Shirley

I've gotten everything my son needs this year except for one thing. I'm hoping for some help. His list says he needs a “durable 1 1/2 inch 3-ring binder with a clear front pocket,” that I can find, no problem. But then it says beside it “(we have found that zippered binders work best.)” I've seen lots of zippered binders, but not any with a clear front pocket. Has anyone seen these??

      • Kristi

Wish we could get the zippered, our specifically says ” NO TRAPPER KEEPERS”

    • Amanda

I am very new to back to school shopping – my oldest son is starting kindergarten.  I am searching for a thermos for him to take in his lunch box.  I saw a very nice steel cars thermos at Target for around $12 and almost fainted!!  Is that typical and are they that expensive??  Don't want to buy him one that will leak everywhere, but I don't want to send alot of $$$ for something that might get lost.  Any recommendations on where (and what) to buy a thermos for a 5 year old??  Where have you guys found the best deals on those?? Thanks!!!

      • Jennifer

Those are the “funtainers” by thermos?  If so, I recommend them!!  We have 2, and they have lasted through so much.  They also keep the drinks cold all day…even still have ice at the end of the day!  My girls have dropped them a ton, and they still don't leak.  I don't put them in the dishwasher, so that's kind of a pain…but they were way too expensive to ruin!!  :)

      • Marcy

Get it.  I know it seems like a lot but $12 is actually a good price and they are well made.  We had others and they broke right away.  When I wanted to buy it, like in January, I could only find it on Amazon and spent more.  My advice for some school supplies like crayons or paper, pencils is buy extra because they won't be that price again during the year and you can always use them next year.

    • Kristi

OK, so does anyone know where to get 10 packs of Binder Dividers? See lots of 5 and 8 packs, but they specifically want ONE row, 10 dividers, for my son's 4th grade class ( using a 2in binder vs the old way of using a bunch of folders). I can't find them, and they are the only thing I need besides the “class objects” and the earbuds for laptop use

    • wendy

why did you not include walgreens…we saw some awesome school deals there
