Calling all potato lovers! This recipe for crispy smashed potatoes is a great side dish with crispy edges and buttery insides.

The smashing part of this recipe makes for lots of nooks and crannies in the potatoes, which creates lots of places for extra crispiness.

Note: Use baby yellow (or gold) potatoes for the best flavor and texture!

Crispy Smashed Potatoes Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1.5 pounds baby yellow or gold potatoes
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tbsp olive oil, plus more for preparing the baking sheet
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp ground pepper
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp Italian seasoning

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Line a baking sheet with foil or parchment and brush or spray with oil.
  2. Add the potatoes to a saucepan, cover with water, and bring to a boil. Cook until the potatoes are soft, about 15 minutes (it will depend on the size of your potatoes).
  3. Drain the potatoes and let them sit while you prepare the butter.
  4. Mix together the melted butter, olive oil, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning. Stir until combined.
  5. Place the potatoes on the prepared baking sheet and use the bottom of a cup or a potato masher to smash them down.
  6. Brush the potatoes with the butter mixture.
  7. Bake for 40-45 minutes, until the potatoes are golden and the edges are super crispy. Serve hot.
