CVS is offering their annual gift card savings promotion right now.  For every $25 you buy in CVS gift cards you get a free $5 eGift Card.  Purchase online (or get more information).  They only run this for a limited time, so delay at your own risk.

I would encourage my CVSer’s out there to at least grab one and then play a game for the next few months to see how long you can get your gift cards to last.  This will make you focus on your scenarios being perfect and trying your hardest to decrease your out of pocket costs!

(thanks to everyone that emailed!)

    • Anoushka

I am a BIG cvs shopper, but I have no idea what is an ecard?

is that a gift card we can only use online?

I never shop CVS online only instore

      thank YOU!

      • It's really just a paper gift certificate. You can use them in the store still though.

    • Ed

Part of making a scenario perfect is to buy ten cent filler items. Could someone suggest one or two items that only cost ten cents because I'm having trouble locating any in the store. Thanks.

      • macboy

That'd be kinda hard at CVS…

      • Suzanne

Not ten cent filler…but there is a thirty five cent piece of carmel at the register…cashier told me about it one time when I was short.

    • Sherim0206

Can these be used in the store as well? I don't shop CVS online.

      • Yes these can be used in the store.

    • Erin

can i buy the $25 gift card in the store? and print the paper $5 gift card and redeem it in the store?

    • Bethany

I am having trouble completing the order. It is declining my order. No problem with my card, anyone else having trouble?

      • Kathy

I Just got one without any problem.

      • Kathy

Just got an e mail saying they didn't process my order needed more info I had to call the # in the e mail to verify my order. Maybe because it was $150.00 gift card. They said I would receive it within 15 min. We'll see.

    • Donna

Can you pay down your gift card or do you have to spend the total amount in one visit?

      • Kathy

Did this last year and one cashier told me I had to use the whole amount. She was wrong. Every other cashier let me use it for each order and then told me what my balance was. I wrote it on my gift card so I would remember.

        • Donna

          Thanks! Kathy

      • You don't have to use it in one visit, just hold on to it until the balance is out!

    • Annette

How long after you order it does it get emailed to you? The only thing I've received is an email saying they're processing my egift card. It's been at least 30 minutes since I ordered.

      • Annette

Never mind – they just showed up.

    • Fgavent

Do you have to spend the $5 e-gift card at one time since it is a paper gift card? I understand that the $25 can be used in multiple transactions. THANKS!

      • nope, you can use it until the balance is out!

    • Amy J.

This is fantastic, Jenny, thanks soooo much!

This should be fun……I hope the $25 GC I just bought lasts for a really long time since I now have about $28 in ECB's! I'll try not to get too carried away! LOL!

    • IG

These are eGiftCards only. You cannot get this deal on an in-store gift card purchase. You can use part of the balance and leave the rest. You do not have to spend it all at one time. It's just like a plastic gift card except you print it on paper. It takes maybe an hour to get the online cards via email after you order. Then, you just print them out and you are ready to go. I bought a $25 card yesterday and used the $5 bonus card and most of the $25 card to purchase a prescription yesterday. Pharmacy cashier tried to say I could not use the card for prescriptions. Not so. Went right through just like a plastic gift card. It's really the same thing without the plastic card. The company that sells these, cashstar, told me I cannot trade the paper gift card for a plastic card that would be easier to keep up with. I'll try to do that the next time I'm at a store and see what happens. Plastic card will be much easier to keep up with than a piece of paper.

      • Amy L

Can or “cannot trade it for plastic?

        • it cannot be traded for a plastic gift card, but still so worth it!

      • Karla

I just read somewhere else that a person cut out the bar code & the instructions on how to use it – then laminated it like a card. She said it was much easier this way. I plan on trying this with mine!

    • Kathy

This isn't about CVS but Applebees and Longhorn Steakhouse are also doing this. I just paid for 2 $50.00 gift cards and got 2 $10,00 gift cards for free. I am getting a $100.00 gift card from Longhorn and will get a $20.00 gift card for free. $40 free food YEA!!

      • Lori

A lot of restaurants do this. I read somewhere that only about 80% of gift cards actually get redeemed. So, by offering a 20% discount now, they get the money in today's dollars to pay of today's debts. Think about inflation…

    • Savergirl

I ordered some of these last year and used them on monthly prescriptions. Helped save us money there…

    • PaulaB

Awesome deal. I always end up with a few bucks per purchase and then I run out of all my cash. So much easier to instead dwindle down a gift card!

    • sandraj

I got a lot of free stuff this week at cvs. While I was on vac. in Myrtle Beach I found out that there was 200 homeless students at the MB high school. so all the free shampoo ect i got this week I gave to the cause. It's good to give. Thanks CVS for all the free stuff.

    • Vijtai01

Question guys, can u use the$5 and $25 egift card to pay off tax amount?

      • Crafty_cat_86

Yes, I used a $25 giftcard for an xferred rx to pay tax on all my transactions last week.

        • Jessica5757

not sure y they let u do that but i work at cvs and its not supposed to be allowed.!

          • laura

Giftcards can't be applied to tax? So you have to pay part of your order with cash/ credit and part with giftcard? That makes no sense…

            • Ljen3

Gift cards are like money. I use a CVS card all the time to pay my small tax amounts. I don't know how this e-gift card works, however.

      • Jessica5757

    • kidsallgone

I just bought (1) $150.00 gift card for me.

Then did it again for my mom.

We both buy our prescriptions at CVS.

      We'll both receive a $30 freebie gift card :)

I received 2 emails right away saying they were processing the orders.

PS…after buying over $100 worth of “goodies” on Black Friday at CVS and paying only $4.00, this Sunday's ad looks ,really pretty pitiful :(

      • Evilbeatile80

I'm still waiting on my $30 after purchasing my $150.It's kinda scary. LOL

    • I bought a $100 gift card during their Mother's Day Promo and have just over $1 left on the free $20 one. A big portion went for the Nuetragena Clinical, for which I did receive the rebate. The 2nd time I used it, the cashier did not know how to use it, and inadvertently keyed in that I had paid $99+, whatever the balance was on the card, so they had to give me a plastic card instead, which was much easier at the register. However, when I started using the $20 paper one, I simply asked the cashiers if they knew how to do it. Then I would tell them that the other cashier just read the instructions and it seemed really simple. They had no problems after that. So far as keeping up with a piece of paper, I have a separate envelope for each of my stores. In my envelope for CVS, I keep my ECBs, CRT coupons, and my e-gift card. When I make my shopping list and organize my coupons, those also go into the envelope, and then in my organizer. I have no problem keeping up with it.

    • Lori

I bought this about an hour and a half ago, still not in the email box. Waiting on it before going to CVS!

      • Cmschindel

Hi. i just got mine and have not seen anything via email…let me know if you get anything… wonder if we cld have gone through ebates and gotten these???

    • Cinderelligirl

can you use ECBs to buy a gift card in stores?

      • Jessica5757

no u cant.! u can use ecb on anything in the store except gift cards, prescriptions. tabacco products and money cards , money grams and etc.

        • We2ding

You CAN use it to buy prescriptions! The only restriction listed on it is for money orders and prepaid cards. It says on the certificate..this card may be used just like cash toward the purchases at any CVS/pharmacy.

      • moneysaved4disney

unfortunately I found this out last night. I was buying a few things and then going to use my $20 of ecbs on a 2nd transaction where I was getting the itunes card. Couldn't do it. Now i have $30 ecbs and I spent $70 oop! uggh. hope there are some good deals in the next 4 weeks to use up my ecbs!

    • $avin'some$

can i use one of these gift cards to pay for an itunes gift card? the terms say it can't be used on a prepaid card, but what exactly is that? to me, that seems like it is referring only to prepaid charge cards or prepaid phone cards. anyone tried?

      • unfortunately it cannot be used on any plastic gift cards :-(

    • Ahbillings

Two of the Publixs I frequent are refusing Sav A Lot and Target coupons saying they do not consider these two stores as competitors. Has anyone else had this issue.

      • My Publix in south FL, accept Save A Lot as we have one in our county. NONE of them accept Target or any other drugstore Q's. I did get one mgr to commit to saying that IF we ever get an actual Super Target, then they would accept Target Q's.

      • EFVeslock

Yes, my Publix here in Florida will only accept Winn Dixie and Sweetbay. We have a Sav A Lot close by, but it doesn't matter.

      • Victoria

Find the 1800 number for publixs they should make it right..

      • baglady

I'm just north of the Tampa/St. Pete area, and my Publix stores always take the Target coupons.

      • Jennifer

James Island, SC – My Publix won't accept Target coupons either. They said that Target wasn't close enough to their store to be a competitor.

    • nancy

So they (both) can be used on prescriptions, right? And if I have a problem with

the pharmacy, tell them to call that phone number?

    • Katyashirok

Do you know if the $5 card have exp.date? The reason I'm asking – I spent my $25 within the month of purchasing, but didn't get to use the $5 card till few months later. But when I presented my printed out of my email card to the cashier, she said they are not valid. When I asked her to scan it anyway just to see if it works, it beeped as invalid as well. I still have it (not used) but not sure what to do about it. And certainly don't want to run into the same problem again. Any advice?

      • it does not have an exp. date. The cashier probably didn't know how to use it.. I would go back in and have the manager do it! :-)

      • Rebecca

if the amount that you're purchasing is more than what you have on the card, it won't work. The cashier has to key in the $5 amount, and then run the card. If they don't know how to do it, buy something for less than $5.

    • Carol Haithcox

Sounds good but now that I have ordered, I wonder if I missed something. Nowhere in the order did it mention the gift card for $5.00. Hope it comes with the order….

    • M_bruere

how did you find out about this? i am supposed to be signed up for emails and didnt receive ANYTHING about it. I also never get any $/$ q… I am wondering if there is a way to go through upromise and get a% for this as well. anyone tried yet?

    • sstwwr

CVS is not a grocery store!!!

    • Kmnzeltner

Does anyone know if this is still valid? I just went to purchase it and do not see anything about the $5 bonus.

    • Danaldrman

I just bought one, so I'll let you guys know if the $5 bonus is still valid…

      • Danaldrman

yeah, i'm thinking the offer is over. no mention of a bonus here.

    • Jenell

I'm assuming the offer is over. When I clicked on the link yesterday, it mentioned the free bonus. Today it doesn't. I should have done it yesterday!

    • Wickpeddler

Bummmer! I called CVS the person on the phone had no information about it. Yep, should have scooped it up yesterday.

    • Kogburn

This deal is over. I bought one a couple of days ago and decided tonight to buy another. I wasn't careful enough – just did it. I did not get the $5.00 tonight. Bummer!

    • Rocio

Just did mine, I got my gift for $25 that I purchase but not the $5. Would this come later or is it over?

    • James87

this was SUCH a scam! turns out the promotion ended on 11/29 but they kept the website up! i bought my $150 gift card on 11/30, expecting a $30 bonus but when i called in today they said that because it was purchased after the ending of the promotion, that i'm not getting a bonus. then why is the website still up?? such a scam..
