Is there anything yummier than a crunchy tortilla chip in some salsa or queso?

You can buy pretty good tortilla chips at the store, but I’ve found an easy way to make my own tortilla chips out of corn tortillas. These only take about 15 minutes from start to finish, and in my opinion, they taste even better than restaurant ones. It may take some trial and error to get the cooking time right, but once you figure it out, you’ll never go back. Best of all, these are baked tortilla chips, so they’re a better option than frying them!

Easy Baked Tortilla Chips

You only need three things: corn tortillas, olive oil, and salt. And the salt is optional, although I think even just a little bit is helpful.

I just bought the cheapest package of corn tortilla chips I could find at the store.

Other tools that could be helpful are a brush for spreading the olive oil and a pizza cutter.

I use this silicone baking mat (no longer available on Amazon, but these look good!), but you can also use parchment paper on a sheet pan.

I think the easiest way is to brush one side of each tortilla with olive oil and stack them, then cut them into sixths with a pizza cutter.

Then spread them out, flip them over, and add oil to any piece that doesn’t have much on it.

Spread them out on a baking sheet and sprinkle with salt.

The baking time may vary. I did one batch that took about 10 minutes and one that took 14! Depending on how your oven bakes, it seems like it could take anywhere from 8-14 minutes. You want to flip halfway through, so I find that it’s best to flip after about 5 minutes and then check them every two minutes or so until they’re done.

Let them cool for a bit to let them crisp up more, and then you’re ready to dip some chips!

Easy Baked Tortilla Chips

Ingredients

  • 6 corn tortillas
  • 2 tbsp. olive oil
  • Salt
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Brush one side of each tortilla with olive oil and stack them on top of each other.
  • Using a pizza cutter or knife, cut the stack of tortillas into sixths (six pieces per tortilla).
  • Spread the tortilla pieces out on a silicone baking sheet or parchment paper on a sheet pan. Spread more olive oil on any pieces that don't have any.
  • Sprinkle the tortilla pieces with salt.
  • Bake for anywhere from 8-14 minutes, depending on how hot your oven gets, flipping halfway through. I'd recommend baking for 5 minutes, flipping, and then watching carefully until they are just barely starting to brown.

These baked tortilla chips are so easy, and they taste like what you'd get at a restaurant! All you need are corn tortillas, salt, and olive oil.
