gluten-free cheese sauce

Most cheese sauces use flour as a base, but if you can’t eat gluten, it’s easy to miss eating that cheesy goodness.

This gluten-free cheese sauce uses cornstarch as a base and it’s great mixed with broccoli (we like to pile cheesy broccoli on baked potatoes with shredded BBQ chicken).

Gluten-Free Cheese Sauce

Ingredients

  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 2 tsp cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup shredded cheese

Directions

  1. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter.
  2. Stir in the cornstarch right when the butter is melted and whisk until dissolved.
  3. Whisk in the milk and continue stirring until thickened (if you'd like it thinner, add a bit more milk).
  4. Add in salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Whisk in the shredded cheese and continue to stir until melted and smooth.
