During the month of January, funnix.com is offering a free download of a great reading program. This program is usually about $300 dollars and is made by the same people who wrote the book: Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons.

After you download it you have 2 years of reading curriculum at your finger tips.  (Go here to read a review of the system if you want more info).

Just a heads up that these files are huge – it took me about three hours to download the program.

(thanks Kristen and everyone else that emailed!)

    • Leanne

Thanks! I homeschool, and I think I will try this as extra reading practice!

      • Misstristyn

    • Myronstrader

Is there a time limit on this?

      • You have to download and install before the end of Jan. but after that the program is yours to keep.

    • Michelle

Yea! I just finished Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy lessons. She is 3 and can read. This will be the perfect follow up!

      • Saviorbucks

we are using that for my 4 year old's homeschool and we love it, I'm thrilled about this offer! Get a flash drive to back it up, you wouldn't want to lose this!

    • Iteachspecialkids

Email I received was empty. What did I do wrong?

      • Amyinatlanta

Mine was empty too! Those of your who were able to download — help!

        • Reddensh

At the top of the screen where you enter your info, right under the box to agree to terms, there's a choice of Mac or PC. you have to choose one. I did the same thing the first time.

          • Amyinatlanta

            thanks — it worked!

    • Churchgirlfriday

That book is the reason my 2 older kids could read before kindergarten. Oldest one started school at a third grade level. His teachers were amazed. Think I'll download for kid # 3 to use with the book- she's 2 now.

    • Saviorbucks

Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

    • Mandi

So it looks like this is mainly for 2nd grade and younger?? My daughter is in 4th grade. Does anyone have any experience with this program and would it be appropriate for that grade?

      • Winona

If she is a struggling reader, it may be good as a refresher on some of the basic phonemical awareness principles, but I think it tends to focus more on the beginner or struggling readers.

    • Nd

does anyone know how much data usage you use on the download i.e. 500 MB? We are on a mobile broadband and can only a certain amount of GB per month. Also, can you download it to a DVD to load onto a different computer that does not have internet access? Thanks!

      • Shelly

The website says, “Computer requirements: You will need at least 2 GB of free space available on your computer. PC users: XP, Vista, Windows 7. MAC users: 10.4 or above. You will need a high speed internet, either cable or DSL. Dial-up is not recommended. “

    • kjmiller

Wow!! Awesome! We are just finishing the book too (decided to teach my 5-y old daughter and 3-y old son at the same time. Both have done so well and really love reading). My sister's kids also used the program with great results. Highly recommend. I'm so excited to get this followup program!

    • Ellisonfamily5

is there a commitment required or credit card needed?

      • Winona

No, no credit card or committment. I downloaded it, it took about an hour total to download everything and all the PDF attachments, but once I got it loaded it works awesome! My five year old loves it!

    • Savemydoe

Has anyone had a problem with running the application? My computer is telling me to choose another location to extra the file. Nothing I choose is working.

      • Cademackmom

I am having the same problem. I tried 4 or 5 times and then emailed the company. The response I got was keep trying “so far the longest attempt has been 18 times” and then if it still didn't work to sign up again from the beginning and get a new email. It's still not working and I've spent 4 hours downloading and trying it in Internet Explorer and Mozilla and still not working. Anybody get any better response from the company?

        • Freedom

I am having same problem. Only thing I can think of is FAQ says it has to be downloaded to main drive on computer. We have another internal that we installed-1TB and I wanted it on there so thats where i loaded it too. May have to try and put it on primary drive and see what happens.

        • Plaidjenn

We got same response from the company. Except they told us someone tried “28 times!” and finally got it downloaded. She said they've had 9000 or 10000 successful downloads, but I'm not exactly sure if they are able to tell from their end if they truly are “successful.”

      • Jennifer

        Same problem here!!!

      • Beth

Having same problem. I contacted the company and she said that basically the file is not completely downloaded. I was using Google Chrome, and the option once clicking on link is save or discard. They were a bit confused on what Google Chrome was (lol) but told me that the file that I download is temporary files and when you click install, it connects to finish downloading the files to install. And of course because there are so many people trying to download the server is getting bogged down, and we are getting timed out.

Going to try again with Internet Explorer…

      • Kensgirl91

If I have trouble with Google Chrome, I use Firefox. I have both on my computer. I use Chrome as my default browser, but I have started to realize some of the troubles I have with downloads and such can be solved by using Firefox. I no longer use Internet Explorer.

    • momof3

Not that I'm complaining, but did anyone, other than myself, notice that “curriculum” is misspelled in the title? I just thought it was funny, that the post was for a reading system…I guess is isn't spelling, though…:)

      • Cheapandproud

Its not from the Funnix company. I get many e-mails from professionals who misuse words and spell words incorrectly – this will get worse in future generations – all thanks to invented spelling, which is promoted in the schools.

        • momof3

          I could not agree more!

    • jsrvn

I used the Teach your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons for all 5 of my children. They were reading at a second grade level by the time they were 4 or 5. It's a great program! Reading opens up the world to your children. Can't recommend this program enough! If you get too frustrated with the download, break down and pay $12.50 for the book at Amazon. Best investment ever. Just follow the instructions in the book and they'll be reading in no time.

      • momto2boys

I just ordered the book! Thanks for the recommendation, I hope it works!

    • Awesome! Thanks for posting this. I am a homeschooling Mom and having a hard time getting my 6 and 7 year olds reading well. We are using saxon phonics, which worked well for children numbers 1 and 2, but it takes SOOOOOOOOOO much time we can't always get it in. I love free programs and I have the teach your child to read book. I should just toss saxon and do that!

      • Jules

I am excited to try this too! I am using “Reading Made Easy” by Valerie B. and love it (much better than any of the others I tried abeka, saxon etc…) but can always use supplements. WOOHOO!

    • Strategic Solutions

Thanks for all you do. Just a quick suggestion. May want to change the spelling on “curriculum” . Unless it was meant to be that way in the title. I do freelance editing for companies and individuals and mistakes can be embarassing for those in business. Thanks again for your site.

      • guest888

Your comment is really rude and offensive. I would never hire a freelance person who cannot tell the difference between constructive criticism and downright rude. It was clearly a typo and your lack of class in bringing it to attention when you are taking advantage of the free tip, shows the high class type of individual you are. Arrogant Solutions may be a better name for you.

      • Quia

This is kind of ugly to read, for lack of word, I can care less about spelling if someone is devoting their time to find ALL kind of deals for me. By the way English is a second language for me, so don't bother correcting me. Thanks.

      • Bradyfigueroa

It's funny everyone is rushing to judge you…I took your comment as polite and constructive. You said thanks at the beginning and at the end. It is difficult to read “inflection” in written text….and so people are quick to judge. If it were me, I would not be upset that someone pointed it out.

      • I totally agree with you! Ignore the ignorance of others; a business should want to improve for credibility!

    • Boomer3145

Kind of funny that Jenny kills herself to find deals & information & rather than just say thanks you find the time to complain about spelling. We had the same problem in a Raleigh NC column. I have a name for that but they won't print it.

    • My download is taking forever! The longer I wait for it to download the longer it says it is going to take. Right now it is saying it will be another 8 hours. I started downloading it this morning around 9:00am (7 hours ago). According to the progress bar it has 2/3 left to download and I'm using high speed internet through cable. Anyone having similar issues?

      • I had similar issues until I took it to someones house where they run a t1 line for internet, then it installed the first try.

    • Shannon

I am getting a message after I click run…I've never seen it any other time I've tried to download anything. It says, “Please select another location to extract the installer to…Choose or Cancel”. I click on choose and pick my desktop but then nothing happens.

    • BEWARE: Downloaded and tried to install and it was block by my virus software. The files are corrupted and there was a virus (WIN32/HEUR) with one of them.

    • holliejolly

Starfall.com is an awesome free website I use with my children, but I think this will be a great supplement. Thank you!

    • Starymyst

I really want to download this, but I am worried about viruses. The last poster said there was one, has anyone else had this problem?

      • I had an IT specialist help me and he found no errors or virus' in the software :)

    • For those having trouble I may have found the “secret” then again it could be a fluke.
After getting frustrated and trying everything I know to install I brought the laptop to moms bf's house where it installed on the first try with the only change being using a T1 line rather than DSL. Install/download speed may very well be a huge factor here.
