Joy in the Journey, written by Lori Hatcher, is a new devotional book written especially for home schooling parents.  Lori is a veteran home schooling mom who has written straight to the heart of stressed and tired parents.  The book is broken into months with a group of devotions related to each month.  I don’t know that I could wait for each month to read them.  I had the joy of getting to read this over the last few weeks and it felt like every devotion was written straight to me.  They were great.  I also liked that each one is short, to tackle during a quiet time or just a stolen moment during the day (because how many of us really get the quiet time we want).

In our house we have been homeschooling now for 3 years, but this is still just as relevant to us today.  I would say this a great book for anyone home schooling whether you have 1st graders or kids moving on to college.

Here’s one expert that I loved (I personally sing “Morning by Morning” each time I see my morning glories bloom):

By the next morning, new flowers appear, and the cycle begins again. Every morning they burst into bloom; every afternoon they lie spent on the ground. I call it the Mercy Plant because it reminds me of Lamentations 3:22-23, “His mercies fail not. They are new every morning. Great is Your faithfulness.”

Perhaps you had a terrific year of homeschooling last year. The children were eager learners. You were patient and organized. You scheduled appropriate field trips and took time out for service projects and visits to elderly. You are eagerly anticipating the new school year and can’t wait to get started. God bless you! You need to read on.

Perhaps your school year wasn’t perfect. Maybe it didn’t even come close. You started out organized, but it went downhill fast.
