I told you last week that we needed to save up for this week, and I must say I’m glad we did!  Sometimes there just isn’t any way to lower a price further and you just have to pay.  My way of saving on those deals, is by saving up money for them.  I refuse to never eat a meal again just because I can’t get it for free…

We are making Low Country Boil with 12 people tomorrow night.  This isn’t a cheap meal to make for my normal crew of 5, so doubling it doesn’t help.  It’s a fun meal for a large group of people though, and incredibly delicious (plus we are always glad to have folks over and cook)!!

I had to purchase everything for it this week and nothing was really on sale so we went to the store that had the largest amount of the purchase on sale, Kroger.

Gulf Shrimp medium, 6 lb bag, $5.99 lb – $35.94
              (2) Rogers Smoked Sausage, 24 oz box, $2.84 – $5.68
              (2) Red Potatoes, 5 lb bag, $2.99 – $5.98
              (2) Corn on the Cob Nibblers, 12 ct., $2.49 – $4.99
              (1) Old Bay Crab Boil Seasoning, 6 oz, $3.49
              Total = $56.08

The shrimp were on sale $2 off per lb, and so was the corn and potatoes.  We also saved by going with the large size of sausage rather than getting more smaller packages.

              Total Saved: $15.31

I had other things we needed this week too.  That we grabbed from Publix on a different day:

              Publix:
Total before sales and coupons: $67.19
              Total Spent: $33.10
              Total Saved: $34.09

This included the lovely, never on sale, milk and bread and a good amount of produce for two different fruit salads that made this week.  So to save right at 50% is awesome!

              Weekly Totals:
              Before sales and coupons: $138.58
              Total Spent: $89.18
              Total Saved: $49.40

It’s not impressive looking, but I’m happy.  We had saved enough to have $100 this week for everything and still managed to come in a little under.  In my book, many times it’s not about getting it all for free, it’s just about getting it to where you can afford it!
