It’s now January 14th, have you thought about taxes yet?

For folks that file a standard return with no itemized deductions, you probably qualify for the FREE version of Turbo Tax.  They even file it for free.

If you need a state return also, that is an additional fee.  A tip though, before kids and deductions we used to use the free version for federal returns and then do a state return on paper using the numbers that turbo tax had given us for the federal return.  Then you are only out the cost of a stamp!

If you don’t qualify for the free version they current have the deluxe and higher versions up to 40% off.

Don’t forget about free budgeting software for everyone from the makers of turbo tax.

        CVS Money Trasher Gift Card
If you are like me, you work hard to never waste an Extra Care Buck from CVS.

Now you can turn your frugal mindset into a chance to win CVS giftcards!! Now through January 31, CVS is hosting an I’m Not a MoneyTrasher photo contest. It’s pretty simple to enter and the prizes are huge – more than $11,000 in gift cards will be given out!

The Grand Prize is a $2,000 CVS/pharmacy giftcard.  I can’t even imagine how far we could stretch that in our house.

The goal of the contest is to help you keep track of your ECB’s through their new Send it or Print it programs, so enter by submitting a fun photo of how you use/redeem your bucks.

        To enter:

Like the CVS Facebook page and enter a creative photo.  The first 20 random winners will be picked on Monday January 16th so hurry to increase your chances!

If your photo is really great and you end up in the top 100 votes, you will win even more prizes. (Hint: You can have friends vote too!)

This was meat week at our house.  We picked up our Zaycon foods chicken order and put up all 40 lbs of chicken (pictured above).  Then I went to Publix last night and grabbed salmon, hamburger, veggies and vitatop muffins.  You didn’t expect me to not grab those muffins did ya??

Zaycon Foods order $67.60 (paid for really the last week in 2011)

            Publix
Total Before Sales and Coupons: $83.36
            Total Spent: $53.88
            Total Saved: $29.48 or 35%

I know it’s not thrilling, but it was honestly all that we needed.  This is been a rough week with site outages and other issues, so in the end I tried to practice what I preach.  On a bad week, throw the coupons out the window and at least buy what is on sale.

I almost forgot, my husband earns points for doing Walgreens all by himself.  He needed Prilosec so I sent him off with the $4 off printable coupon and he proudly came home with his $10 register reward.  Then proceeded to tell me everything the cashier had taught him about the program.

            Walgreens
Total Before Sales and Coupons: $24.99
            Total Spent: $16
            Register Rewards Remaining: $10
