Every month I come to you with a 30ish days’ worth of dinner ideas. Now that the weather is warm, we’re happily using our grill as much as possible so as not to heat up the kitchen too much. We’re also eating some cold meals that don’t require any cooking at all. This month there are two holidays that might affect your meal plans: Mother’s Day and Memorial Day. I’ve linked to some recipe ideas on the calendar for Mother’s Day, but for Memorial Day, why not check out my list of ideas for grilled meat? There’s nothing better than getting together with a bunch of people and cooking out!

I’ve found an ingredient that is new to me that I’m now trying to incorporate it into as many recipes as possible. That ingredient is Gochujang spicy red chili paste. It’s an ingredient often used in Korean recipes and I can’t get enough of it. I couldn’t find it at my grocery store, because we live in the middle of nowhere, but I was able to order it on Amazon. A little goes a long way, so one container will last a long time. I’m going to try a recipe with noodles and then also a rice bowl.

Teacher Appreciation Week is coming up on May 4-8, 2026, so it’s time to start thinking about ways to express your thankfulness and respect if your kids have teachers of any kind. The week usually focuses on school teachers, but you might want to use this as an opportunity to thank piano teachers, sports coaches, or any other adults who impact your kids’ lives. However, if you do this, you may end up with many gifts to buy, depending on how many kids you have. Here are 10 frugal teacher appreciation ideas that will be meaningful to the teachers in your life but that won’t break the bank!
10 Teacher Appreciation Gift Ideas

A handwritten note or card
If you were to ask your child’s teacher what they love most of all, it is handwritten notes or cards from their students and students’ parents. This is by far the most frugal option for teacher appreciation, but you can also pair it with one of the ideas below.

A gift card
After a few years of teaching, most teachers have enough coffee mugs and tchotchkes. Give them a gift card to a place where they have the option to get something for their classroom or something they want for themselves. I’d recommend Walmart, Target, or Amazon, since regardless of where you live, teachers can shop online and get things delivered.

Something personalized
Consider getting them a notepad with their name on it, or something else for their classroom that is personalized. I love these cute personalized stamps.
