There is a great program that encourages students to read called Book-It! The program is sponsored by Pizza Hut and has been around since I was a child (I have vivid memorys of putting stickers on my book-it button to earn my pizza).  One thing many folks don’t realize is the program is available for home schools too! Enrollment for the 2011-2012 school year has just opened, so now is the time to sign up. Anyone in Kindergarten through 6th grade can participate.

The program allows your child to earn a FREE personal pan pizza each month for six months when they meet their reading goals. The great thing about it though is that you determine what the reading goals are, so you can make it developmentally appropriate for your child. You can print off charts, reading lists, and certificates to help motivate your child to love reading along the way.

Just go here to register by September 1st. Book-It will send you all of the program materials and coupons you need.

(If your kiddo is in the public school system then their class teacher needs to register.)

What if it doesn't recognize my child's school?

If your child is in school, the teacher has to do it. If homeschool you just fill in your info. In the fall they mail packet.

My sister and I used to eat tons of pizza because of this program through our school. It's a great way to get kids to read.

    • Thanks for the reminder, Jenny We participated in the Homeschool version and the boys would come to me each month after they finished their log and demand their coupon! LOL They loved getting to have some fast food !

I was just telling my mom the other day about how I remembered this! It was such a great treat on Friday afternoon to go pick up your own pizza for all your hard work.

We did it this year. I wasn't that impressed. The child gets a free personal pizza but you still have to pay for the rest of the family…We still ended up spending quite a bit of money. The plus side was the waitress really talked up how proud she was of my child.

I remember my parents would take us to Pizza hut ONLY to get our reward pizza. The rest of the family would not get pizza that day. That way, we felt like we earned a special treat that no one else got to have. It definitely made my siblings and I read more. My husband and I went to Pizza Hut last weekend and I mentioned the program to him….fond memories.

i dont see why you think that anyone other than the child should get free pizza. I agree let the child who completes there goal get rewarded and everyone else eat what you cook for dinner or lunch

That's what I do… My son gets the Book It pizza & everyone else eats what I cook, and I usually make the reward on a night I'm cooking something he dislikes so he REALLY feels special! :)

Why would Pizza Hut treat the rest of the family?? The child is the one who gets a treat, the adults and others should be able to pay their own way.

My daughter's school participates and when we go I get a personal pan pizza too and my husband gets a dozen wings (we have Pizza Hut/Wing Street here). I get a water and the get teas and it it less than $13 for us.
