It is a great time to ditch cable! There are three fun deals currently available on streaming services. You can get a deal on HBO Go, Hulu, or Steam.

HBO Go

Free 30 day trial of HBO Go. Get caught up on Game of Thrones and other HBO favorites (they usually have great movie options).

Hulu Deal

Subscribe for 2 months to the limited commercial or no commercial plan and get back a $20 Visa gift card.

Limited Commercial Plan: $15.98
No Commercials Plan: $23.98

Valid for new and returning customers. Gift card will be sent between 31-45 days from sign up to the email address used to sign up. You can read all the details here.

Sling Deal

You can get a FREE Roku Streaming Stick when you prepay for one month. It is $20 per month. This is the cheapest way to get a Roku streaming stick… we see them on sale for $24.99 (and that doesn’t happen often).

If anyone streams and wants a channel recommendation, I highly recommend DramaFever and Viki. You can watch Korean (and other Asian) dramas which although you have to read subtitles, are sooooo good! I left Hulu and Netflix behind several years ago and don’t really like American entertainment because I now find it way too racy, violent and vulgar. Just my two cents that’s worth a boatload of entertainment. If you like spooky stories, try Master’s Sun or if you like romantic entertainment, try Flower Boy Next Door, my very first Kdrama. :)

Hey fellow Kdrama fan!!!!! You can also watch on dramafire.
Try some j dramas too…much different feel to them and a lot more physical comedy

Just buy a jail broken Amazon Firestick, and you will get way more than all three of those combined Nothing to pay except high speed internet, and these can be found on Craigslist from $50 to $100 each. I’m not selling, or helping sell, just found it to be much better than paying monthly fees to stream.

      • Jen

The problem with that is its illegal and it’s stealing if you get services you aren’t paying for. And you could get caught.

Exactly….I was told to download Kodi and I went to youtube to do that. It was step by step and obviously not something the average consumer would know how to do (which is your first clue it is not above board). Once I downloaded I saw that movies that were currently at the theatres like Office Christmas Party were available. I knew this was pirated material so I immediately deleted the Kodi app. Just an FYI….your internet company can track your use and see what you are doing. You can be fined or jailed for watching pirated material. You are also opening yourself up to hackers using your IP address in this manner. Just sayin’

But you are streaming, just like streaming from any source on the internet. You are not down loading, how is it illegal?

            • andi330

It is illegal because the owner of the copyright has not been paid for the use of their material. Any time you get anything for free like that, without a monthly fee or by paying to rent or own the copy, you are illegally streaming. The only exception would be if you are streaming something that is in the public domain. But generally speaking, anything created after 1923 is likely to still be copyrighted.

Just told my husband we’re ditching cable next month after the Super Bowl. Does Sling Tv show local news stations?

      • Jennifer

I’m not sure about Sling but you can buy a digital antenna for $50-$75 and put it on the side of your house, to pick up local channels. That’s what we did when we ditched cable. And the HD picture was far better than the additional $10/month we were paying the cable co. for! Also, I’ve noticed that larger local news markets ( NY and Orlando) are making their own apps that you can download on the Fire Stick and use to stream news coverage.

I get local channels with a cheap indoor antenna. I think I paid about $10 for it many years ago.

We are thinking of getting rid of directv. does anyone know of a streaming service or other way to record live tv? that is how we watch tv and that is the hold up for us to ditch directv. we have found that watching shows on demand is not always an option as the episodes aren’t always available (network channels.) thanks.

      • Jennifer

My friends bought a used TiVo that had a lifetime subscription from the previous owner, so they’re able to record TV without paying for a subscription to TiVo.
