Atlanta Zoo

Zoo Atlanta is teaming up with the Georgia Public Library Service to give Georgia families a completely FREE family pass to the Atlanta Zoo!

The family pass allows for 2 adult passes and 2 children passes.

To get your free pass, you must hold a valid Georgia library card and head to your local library to “check out your pass”. Heads up that you will have to use your pass within the following seven days.

Check out their website for other restrictions that may apply.

(Thanks, BuckingtheEconomy)

    • Sherpent

      How long will this last?

      • Kristin

The library near me has had the pass for years. The only problem is you can not reserve it . . . You just have to happen to be there on the day that the pass is turned back in.

        • Jessica

or you can just call ahead every day!

          • Michele

Why does it have to be so hard to get a pass? Urrr Would love to take my daughter.

            • Sarah

If it was easy, it probably wouldn't be free…. and the zoo would probably go bankrupt! Keep trying!!! It is like a scavenger hunt! Good luck to everyone.

            • Jessica

I agree,if you keep your eye out its bound to be your turn to get it sooner or later! now that we know you can check online instead of calling that will really help.

            • Jmh62207

Where can you find out online if they have the pass?! I've tried looking for it and can't find where to see if they have it!

    • Jessica

wow this sounds too good to be true! so I called my local library, here is the low down. Apparently this has been going on for awhile now…
and they do not know how long it will last, you have to rent a copy of the DVD and turn it back in and then get your tickets, there is only 1 copy per library so you will need to call ahead, the woman I talked to said it cannot be placed on hold. she also told me that its very hard to get b/c people are bringing someone with them… and then that person checks the DVD back out right away. I plan to try to do it but I dont think it will be easy!

      • Tiffany

Yep, this is exactly right. (I work at a GA public library) I know that it's been going for about a month now, and I have yet to actually see the DVD because it's constantly checked out. If you happen upon it when it's actually in it's a wonderful deal, but it's just hard to get your hands on the sucker!

        • Mikamoris

Anyone know why Forsyth County is not participating?

          • Susan

Hi – I just checked the catalog online and it looks like the DVD is part of the collection they have. Did you call to see if Forsyth County is participating? I am at the library all the time!

            • Susan

Oh, just saw that we are not a participating county with the Zoo. Too bad!!!

          • cary

I was told yesterday that Forsyth Co. is participating. I am # 19 on the list right now

    • Tryan7399

That is a wonderful deal. My friend bought a family pass which lasts a year. We have been to the zoo with her atleast once a month. I recomend getting this pass for your family if you have small children especially. Atleast once. It has been a wonderful experience. Who would have thought we would experience something different every month. Also the last half of the pass all rides are free. Great deal in itself.

    • cant people just check out the DVD and check it right back in? So that more can get it.. why take it home…

    • Tiffanylynnbrown

yep, that just made this “deal” stupid.

    • Jessica

so um is anyone in Walton County GA that would like to help each other with this? it seems the best way to get it is to work together! I was told at least one of the local libraries has it but I cannot get out there today :( my email is jmccann1003 (at) hotmaildotcom

    • Kay

I found what I believe is the “pass” in the catalog for my library it is listed as: Zoo Atlanta [videorecording-DVD] : wild explorer : history of Zoo Atlanta / video production by Chattahoochee Technical College.. My librarian told me that if you see it available swing by and pick it up quick because it doesn't sit in the library for long.

      • Jessica

thank you! that's really helpful now I can just look it up online instead of calling every day that makes it a little easier
the family pass is a pretty good deal for only100.00 it pays for itself in two visits so if you do go once a month thats a great deal. does anyone know can you bring your own food in?

        • Libby

You can bring your own food!!

    • Snellmom

With everyone else, they are all checked out in Gwinnett County and you can't reserve it online. It would be so much easier if you could reserve online, even if you had to pick it up within a day or so of it becoming available. But, no one said this had to make sense.

    • Britras

NOTE: One Zoo Atlanta Family Pass is available for checkout in each participating public library. The pass may be checked out once per year, per card, per household, and is valid for two adults and up to two children.

It is not an annual membership and it can only be checked out once per year per family. Just a heads up.

    • WynetteC

Okay.. hopefully this information will help someone.
I just called into my local library and they have only had this zoo DVD thing in for two weeks and it has only sat in the local library for a total of 3 hours from the time it first came in. The rest of that time being checked out by only 4 people.
Here is something I would think would be helpful to others:

Be thoughtful of others when you check this out and return it promptly so that others will have the chance to enjoy this deal. Consider it like a REDBOX that has to be returned the next day. Though they give you many more days to view it. Be considerate of others while holding it in your possession.

It cannot be reserved nor can it be put on hold.
I plan, if it is meant to be, to check it out (should it be available) and return it immediately in that same day visit. So far there is nothing in their contract that says I cannot do this. This would benefit whoever might come in right behind me and would actually want to go to the zoo that same week also.

Be wise when you check it out. It's a one time a year thing on your library card and once you check it out, that will set in motion your pass good for only week. So if the weather is rainy, you might want to hold off on checking it out for that week.

      • Wants to go to the zoo

I completely agree. I wish that they would make it a one day check out type of thing like Redbox so more people can access it. My husband is a truck driver and we are hoping to be able to take advantage of this free family pass next week when he is home…so far it's a no go as I can't seem to get my hands on a copy of the dvd to get the family pass. :(

    • Tiffany

I did this in Fulton last year…and I just kept checking the catalog for Zoo Pass and as soon as it was available I ran to go get it! It works great and we had no problem at the zoo.

    • lyssibee

DeKalb County Libraries have 21 copies (1 for each branch) and as far as I can tell, you can place an online request and be notified by phone, when it is checked in. There are just over 400 on the list, so it may take awhile, but worth it.

      • Lindsey

you cannot reserve/request it online. That was the first thing I tried.

    • DC

Yea…my library had it and I got it checked out….planning for a trip this weekend….so excited…thanks for sharing the info! And such a great deal!

    • guest

Duluth and Peachtree Corners still had the DVD around 2:00 today.

      • I wish I had known that! I just put the kiddo down for a nap, otherwise I would have driven there immediately!

    • Yolli

This is great! Fun thing for the upcoming spring break

    • Prsol

This is excellent! I read about this offer and my cousin (who has two little ones) happened to call me from the library at that same moment!!!!!
It was SO meant to be! :D

She just walked back inside of the library and grabbed the DVD! :D

      THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • elizabeth

This sounds like a great deal, if you are lucky to get the DVD!

I will say that we love Zoo Atlanta–we researched several attractions (the zoo, ga aquarium, imagine it children's museum, etc) and the Zoo's annual pass is very affordable and the best deal and fit for our family. We've been several times and there's tons to see and do there–each time we see something new! Plus the parking is free, plenty of picnic tables for you to enjoy your picnic lunch, etc. And no, I don't work for the zoo! Oh–the best part–of the $129 that we spent for our family pass + a guest pass, $102 of that was tax deductible! The other attractions don't have the tax deductible bonus.

      • Erin Clary

I totally agree! My mom gave us a membership as a gift last year and it was the best use of $100! We got the named adult & guest membership, so I could take a different adult with me on different visits + 4 kids. The zoo is so family & budget friendly…free parking, bring in your own food, reasonable ride fees AND the tax deduction! If only the aquarium would do the same, LOL!

        • elizabeth

We did the same thing–I only named myself so I can actually take two different adults with me, whenever. And up to four kids, so it really provides a great playdate! Yes, the aquarium is sooooo expensive…we would have considered it though, except for the tax issue. And the $10 parking. And the non-outside-friendly food.
One other zoo tidbit–they have little passes you can get for the train, carousel, etc. that are 10 rides for $15, and are good for a year. And you can use one for multiple kids. A great little thing to keep with your annual pass! :)

    • Stephrogers13

FYI, you must plan ahead. In order to enjoy the free admission, you must use the passes within one week. When the movie is returned you recieve the voucher that is dated.

    • frugalady

What's the cheapest way to buy additional tickets? I have 4 kids, and only 2 of them would be free.

      • Themayfieldzoo

Check Half Off Depot…they have discount tics sometimes

    • Bummer! We just visited from NC 2 weeks ago!!! We LOVED Zoo Atlanta! I wish this would have been available just a bit sooner! For those of you who have never been and have access, GO! My 2 and 1/2 YO loved it!

    • Shelly

My family just went to Zoo Atlanta this past weekend with the pass! The kids (I have 3) enjoyed it so much. Love they offer this pass.

    • Wendyfkimberly

Anyone know how long this will be available?

    • Jan

Some libraries are offering “group watches” to make it more available to families – where you would watch the DVD at a set time at the library w/others want to take advantage of this deal. My library won't hold the DVD but will call as soon as it it in.

    • jlm

Must you have a receipt to get in or the voucher? My library only said I needed the voucher and didn't give a receipt.

    • Dawn

Murrayville Library in Hall county has it right now if anyone is interested!

    • Srbartlett86

how long is this deal going on?

    • Kay

Wow! After stalking the libraries in my area this week, I managed to pick up the zoo pass DVD. Here is my tip if you REALLY want to get this DVD: pull up the library search page and look up Atlanta Zoo. If you see one, GO NOW. This thing does not stay in the library for long at all. If you don't see it, keep your computer running and search again or refresh over and over again (I had to work on the computer today, so I kept a tab open for the library and kept coming back frequently.) Another idea is to go to story time if your library holds one. You may get lucky that someone there is returning it while you are there. Lastly, if you do manage to get your hands on one PLEASE return it PROMPTLY. Once we picked ours up we got in the car, popped it in, grabbed some ice cream to celebrate, and brought it right back. It never even entered our home. Be considerate of others and don't keep it for long!

    • April_arnold

can the dvd be watched online and the library give me like a comformation number or somthing

    • Guest

This program is not good at all. Good luck finding a pass at the library. There is only one pass per library and guess what? They are all checked out all the time and guess what else? You can not have them hold it for you once it does come in.
