If you have ever been interested in opening an online banking account, ING is giving you $50 today to try it.

For all folks who open a new Electric Orange checking account will be able to receive a $50 bonus!  The $50 will be directly deposited into your account if you use your Electric Orange Card to make at 3 least signature-based purchases in the first 45 days of the account being opened.

We have had an account with them since their last bonus promotion and have found that it’s very easy to use.  For us we are using it more as a savings account with occasional purchases.  I have found that the best thing about online banking accounts is the ease with which you can organize your money; as opposed to just having a lump sum in savings, I can organize my money into very specific categories.  If you want to save for a car, just make an account for it.  When you get the money you need, you can just close that account.

In general, there are no fees and no minimums and over 35,000 ATMs to use.

I don’t know how long they are going to offer the $50 bonus, so you probably want to think it over and get signed up if you want it.

I think everyone should know that ING Direct is up for sale, so there are no guarantees that past performance will mean future results!

We have done this before and never used it…the $50 will go away in fees if you don't use it!!!

      • flower_mom

All you have to do is 3 transactions in the first 45 days…I think I can handle that! ;)

      • I have had my ING account for years, and never incurred a fee – did you not use it? I use it for gas, that's it, otherwise it only gets deposits twice a month. Mine has a 4% interest rate and has been the easiest account to use!

      • WynetteC

As long as you don't dip below a zero balance, there should be no fees.

My family is HUGE fans of ING. We have several savings accts with them, checking, our mortgage (you absolutely cannot beat their rates on mortgage loans or their low closing costs if you have good credit), and we do stock trades with their Share Builder. This is an awesome freebie deal to get started with a very good company. We think so anyway!

I did this in January. I use this card as my gas card. I transfer $150 per month over to this account and only buy gas with the debit card. I'm doing cash envelopes for everything else, but it is just so much more convenient to pay at the pump. I got the $50 on day 50, just like they promised. This is also an interest-bearing account. I have been extremely pleased so far:)

I never even got my 25 bucks for opening savings accounts back in Nov. :(

      • Angel_in_Charleston

We did! Have you contacted them?

      • Sometimes when you sign up there are stipulations, like when I signed up awhile back I had to make three transactions in 45 days, then they would throw in my $50. Did the same with a savings account for my children, make three deposits in 45 days and got $25 deposited! Maybe there were requirements?

      • tasha

I did as well. Contact them they will credit you.

      • WynetteC

There were issues from all of that with their computer system. I had to call them and they credited both the new savings accounts that I had opened immediately! :)

They also had to credit the new checking account I opened as well since it did not work right either.

    • Brittanyvanhouten

There are no fees with ING

Can't say enough good things about ING… we have banked with them for 6-7 yrs now and have never had any problems. Their method of banking takes a little getting used to if you are used to a regular paper checkbook kind of checking acct, but once you do get used to it, it is super easy and convenient. We do direct deposit of our paycheck and all of our bill paying online with them. They offer a fee-free, interest bearing checking account, which is almost extinct these days, and the interest rates are always competitive. We highly recommend them.

Just opened ours! Thanks for all you do! It has changed my way of shopping completely!!

    • ccsMom

Jenny, do you have a reference code I can use in order to get some type of incentive for yourself?

    • Patty

Just be reminded “3 signature-based purchases” and the way I recall it from our experience is that you have to chose credit when you swipe it so it gives you the option to sign for your purchase. It still only comes out a debit to your card since you don't have a credit line approval on the account. It then will show up with a little pencil mark beside the transaction line on your online view of the account. So it is really easy to keep up with. Do one for each of your family members. Hubby and I did it in 2009 when they were giving $121 for each account holder under the same stipulations. And it worked wonderfully for both of us. Cha-Ching!

    • $avin'some$

ok, i just signed up. hope i do it correctly and get my $50. :o)

    • Jane

We did this the last time they offered the deal. Opened one for myself and one for my husband. Got $100 after we filled the requirements. Everything went very smoothly and as promised!

      • Great idea to use for a gas card! Just opened one for myself and one for the hubs!

    • Kcreviews

Was there any code to type in or anything? I just opened an account and it seemed too easy! It's done and they're going to mail me the debit card. Is that all there is to it besides the 3 transactions?

    • computer id

Was anyone concerned about putting the SS # online??

    • caroline

I signed up and got the deal today! They are still offering it!

    • Paige

I forgot to read the “fine lines”. What qualifies as “Signature” in regards to the types of purchases you need to make during the first 45 days to qualify for the $50?

      • Kcreviews

I just read up on this, and basically when paying for something, after swiping the card, pick “credit” instead of “debit” so you will have to sign for it instead of using a PIN.

    • Lisab

Are they going to mail me a card? They say nothing in the help about this. It was really hard to activate everything. To get my $50 I have to wait for a card and then use it? So freaking complicated

      • Paige

yes, i got mine really quickly

        • Kcreviews

It took about a week for me to get mine. They send you the PIN separately in a later mailing. I have that now, too, and am ready to use the card to make money!
