There is some big news concerning Publix and Bi-Lo! Publix is going to purchase seven Bi-Lo-branded stores in North and South Carolina.

If you’ve always felt like you’ve missed out on Publix deals, this may be your chance to start shopping there!

The Bi-Lo stores Publix is acquiring:

8120 S. Tryon Street, Charlotte, NC
12810 York Road, Charlotte, NC
9815 Rose Commons Drive, Huntersville, NC
158 Hwy. 274, Lake Wylie, SC
Fincher Farm Rd, Matthews, NC
1735 Heckle Blvd., Rock Hill, SC
2186 Cherry Rd, Rock Hill, SC

The deal should close next month. The purchasing of the stores is part of Publix’s plan to expand in North Carolina. If you still don’t have a Publix in your area, hopefully you will soon.

On a side note, Bi-Lo is currently purchasing 22 Piggly Wiggly stores in South Carolina. Harris Teeter will buy also 7 Piggly Wiggly stores in the Low Country of South Carolina.

If you live in those areas, be on the look out for going out of business sales!

How do you feel about this deal? Are you excited to start shopping at Publix or sad to lose Fuel Perks?

we are getting two publix soon and I am super excited. They look like a great store to coupon at from your post.

      • ChristineC

Publix is AMAZING for couponing! I always save over 50% each week :-)

    • Jessica

This is bittersweet for me, being that both of the Bi-Los I frequent in Rock Hill are being purchased. I am sad to lose Fuel Perks (but I suppose I could still go to the only BI-LO that will be left in town which is further away). However, I have been wishing for a Publix to be closer to me so I am very excited to try it out! I will also miss the great BOGO meat deals at BI-LO :(

    • Donna

Publix is too pricey for my taste, and losing FP would definitely suck. Hope they don’t by the one and only Bi-Lo near me!

      • Donna

        *buy! (lol)

      • laidbackracing

I get a ton of deals out of Publix….they have great B1G1 and a ton of store coupons that you can stack with manufactor coupons. also the Publix in Chas accepts Earth Fare as a cometitor so the recycle bank coupon works on top of the other ones.

        • Megan_A

Which Publix accepts Earth Fare? I’ve been told that Earth Fare isn’t on their list of competitors.

          • laidbackracing

in Charleston SC the one on James Island not sure about the other ones as I don;t shop at them..now that I think about it I am pretty sure the publix at the corner of ashley phosaphate & dorchester has a sign on their door that they do…at the JI one the only restriction is you have to have as many items as coupons so I count and if I don;t I add kool aid or fresh veggies

      • hazybuck

PRICEY?!? I save, at a MINIMUM, 60% every week, at Publix. For instance, the receipt I just grabbed out of my file . . . my OOP is $31.18, savings of $156.91. This particular trip was over 83%!!!

        This included:
        6 ‘Boxes’ Swanson Chicken Broth
        2 Chinet Napkins
        6 Jolly Rancher candy (bags)
        4 Sargento Cheese (bags/shredded)
        2 Quaker Oats Instant Oatmeal
        10 Sunlight Dish Soap
6 Uncle Ben’s Long Grain Rice
        4 Sabra Quacamole
        4 Oreo Cookies
        2 Simply Mashed Sweet Potatoes
        4 Hormel Lunchmeat
        6 Dr. Scholl’s Inserts
        Small amount of produce.

Personally, I’d be EXCITED about a Publix – I know I’d be heartbroken if mine closed!

    • David Ballinger

Glad to have a Publix soon, but they are taking mt favorite Bi Lo. It’s all good because I do have three more Bi Lo’s, and I NEED Publix! lol

    • mom2max

I am so sad, We love visiting Piggly Wiggly when we go to Hilton Head. We always get Piggly Wiggly t-shirts; what a bummer.

    • laidbackracing

the guy at Harris Teeter told me today that HT bought some of the Piggley Wiggleys and Bi Lo bout the rest:

    • Phyllis

Ok, so let me get this straight. Publix is buying BiLo stores and BiLo is buying Piggly Wiggly stores and Harris Teeter is also buying Piggly Wiggly stores here in the Charleston area but, wait, there’s more. Kroger is buying Harris Teeter stores. Seems I need a scorecard!!

      • laidbackracing

        yep that’s about it…hahahahaha

    • Laurie

Is there any chance that Publix will buy any North Georgia Bilos? Like Bilo but miss Publix badly, save more at Publix.

    • Gynger

I’m confussed…with one company buying another and another buy the other…Thought Kroger purched Harris Tetter…So how does it Harris Tetter buy another store???…And what does it mean to couponing and getting good deals?

      • Me

Kroger is not going to change the Harris Teeter name. They are looking to keep it the way it is – which also means no unions for the their HT employees, although I do believe Kroger is union.

    • Christy Herndon

Rock Hill will luckily have one BiLo left (on East Main street). Yah:) I am not familiar with Publix but I am interested if the deals are as great:)

      • David Ballinger

I really am a HUGE Publix supporter. I go overboard all the time, lol. The deals are often as good as Bi Lo, and some weeks better, and some weeks not as good. They do have more selection, and always a more friendly staff, and the love to embrace coupons. They really are an amazing store to coupon at, and just shop at in general, the only down side is that the products not on sale and that you don’t have coupons for will be much more expensive than most other stores, so you have to stick with what’s on sale pretty much if you have a limited budget.

    • Beckyd423

It makes me wonder if Bi-Lo is looking to downgrade the quality of their stores.

    • Susie

Also if you live in the state of North Carolina and currently have a Kerr drugs near you, Walgreens has purchased all the North Carolina Kerr Drugs. It was announced earlier this week. That will give alot of small rural towns a Walgreens.

      • WNCmountaingirl

        YAY!

    • Carmen Smith

GAHHHH why won’t they come to Florence, SC??? Ugh. I’m so jealous. We have family in Rock Hill but I’m so sad one of the stores wasn’t here :(

    • Joy T

Whew, I’m glad Asheville’s not on the list! I love my Bi-Lo! Things are crazy in the grocery store business here: a new Harris Teeter just opened, Trader Joe’s opens soon, land is being graded for a Whole Foods, a Publix is coming to the south part of town, plus we’re the home of Ingles, so you can’t throw a rock without hitting one. I’m not a huge couponer (Celiac makes most avaliable coupons worthless), but I’m excited to check out Publix once it gets here.

    • Robyn

So, so sad. I heart my Bi-Lo. I save SO much money there, and I love my Fuel Perks. :(

    • Birgit Gilbert

We are getting a Publix in our town but it will be a new store. They are not buying the Bi-lo in our town. I’m exited to have both.

    • use to be there

Ya never know what they are doing. I’m guessing that Bilo will go belly up….Why?….because of corp greed and bleeding the host of all equity. See most folks think that Bilo is doing all this….no,no,no. It’s Winn Dixie. All payments, checks, letter head etc etc says, WINN DIXIE. ~~~~but Winn Dixie hasn’t been doing very well, not then, not now. I dare you to inquire about the pay rate or number of hrs that the stores have cut it’s poor workers to, then do a few google searches at what these CEO and merger experts are making (the benifits alone will make you gasp) …….but the bight side is that , we the consumer, get low low prices with fuel perks. Yay! ……Everyone knows that low prices come at a high cost…….my prediction is that when you see the CEOs’ leave to “HELP” another failing company, then you will see the decline of Bi-lo aka Winn-Dixie. And you will see many many more lose their jobs just to line the pockets of the CEOs

    • WNCmountaingirl

I prefer not to shop at Publix – they don’t double coupons and am not a fan of their coupon policy …Glad they are not coming to my lil town…

      • David Ballinger

my Publix doubles, and the coupon policy is about the same as Bi Lo around me, the only difference is that Publix has a much better staff.

      • BethMc

Publix not only doubles, but they accept competitor coupons and are (in my experience) the most coupon friendly of any store. The manager at my store often is the one to take my groceries to my car and on one bad day, buckled my twins in their car seats! Publix rules!!

    • Tina

I am moving out of the south and I will miss publix , publix is clean organized , has the Best subs and alway is a pleasure to shop. I can’t wait till the day they make it to the north . With the buy one get ones you save a ton on money, every now and then they even have gas card sales which can help save a lot! Saving 10 off a 50 dollar gas card , think how many grocery you have to buy to save 10 dollars at the fuel pump.

    • Erin

Bad experience at Bi-Lo keeps me out of there. We have both Publix and Bi-Lo in Greenville. I usually shop Aldi though.

    • Mimi Flynn

Soooooo……Sad! My family and I relocated to SC, because Bi-Lo’s gave my husband an amazing job opportunity, it’s been almost a year that my husband has been with the company and now we are stuck finding a new job in a panic. It’s like Bi-Lo’s is holding the employees hostage because, they are not allowed to leave the job for new employment until after October 16 which is suppose to be all the employees last day. On the letter given to my husband it states one states one date however they are willig to pay employees up until that date. Really disappointed that Bi-lo’s didnt think of their employees first, and customers 2nd.

I’m excited to get a Publix, I’ve been wanting to coupon there because I always see great coupon trips from others. At the same time I’m deeply saddened that so many people are losing their jobs :'( These are people that ask about my kids every time I shop there, they become part of your life in a small way. I will miss them. :'(

    • Blondempress

From the Caribbean and never been to Publix. My friend went to one in Orlando and said they were expensive. Bilo is reasonable plus you save lots of money on gas. Hope publix wont be as expensive as those in Orlando. Hope they will also have something similar to Fuel Perks.
