Teacher Appreciation Week is coming up on May 4-8, 2026, so it’s time to start thinking about ways to express your thankfulness and respect if your kids have teachers of any kind. The week usually focuses on school teachers, but you might want to use this as an opportunity to thank piano teachers, sports coaches, or any other adults who impact your kids’ lives. However, if you do this, you may end up with many gifts to buy, depending on how many kids you have. Here are 10 frugal teacher appreciation ideas that will be meaningful to the teachers in your life but that won’t break the bank!
10 Teacher Appreciation Gift Ideas

A handwritten note or card
If you were to ask your child’s teacher what they love most of all, it is handwritten notes or cards from their students and students’ parents. This is by far the most frugal option for teacher appreciation, but you can also pair it with one of the ideas below.

A gift card
After a few years of teaching, most teachers have enough coffee mugs and tchotchkes. Give them a gift card to a place where they have the option to get something for their classroom or something they want for themselves. I’d recommend Walmart, Target, or Amazon, since regardless of where you live, teachers can shop online and get things delivered.

Something personalized
Consider getting them a notepad with their name on it, or something else for their classroom that is personalized. I love these cute personalized stamps.

A favorite thing
Many school PTOs/PTAs have started giving teachers a little survey at the beginning of the year about their likes and dislikes and passing it on to parents. I think this is a great idea so you can tailor your gift to your child’s specific teacher. If you know their favorite sports team or restaurant you can give them something related.

Something handmade
With only a little bit of skill and a sewing machine, you can make something like a pencil pouch or small makeup bag. Here is a free pattern for a small boxed makeup bag.

Get coffee or lunch delivered
Sometime before the end of the school year, either get their favorite coffee order or a lunch delivered to them at school, or pick it up and deliver it yourself.

Give them some fancy chocolates
Consumables are always a great gift for teachers because even if only half their students give them something, that is still a lot of stuff.

Gift them fun classroom supplies
I have several teacher friends who love a special brand of pens that are rather expensive. Another teacher I know loves lemons and loves anything for her classroom that is lemon themed.

Put flowers in a vase
If your garden is blooming this time of year, cut some flowers and other greenery and place them in a Mason jar, then add some ribbon. This is a very frugal way to give a teacher something beautiful!

Organize a gift basket with other parents
This might be a lot for you to do alone, but if you know some of the other parents, you could go in together and put together a themed gift basket. Here are some ideas.
