I know that many of you love Aldi, and some of you don’t have other good grocery stores near you. If so, know that you are often going to be able to get low prices on many items. But if you have other options such as Publix or Kroger, I want to challenge you with this list of 10 things to never buy at Aldi. You can almost certainly get all of these items much cheaper using sales and coupons, so don’t fall for the trap that Aldi is always the cheapest!

For more comparisons, see my weekly Publix vs. Aldi post.

10 Things to NEVER Buy at Aldi

Cereal bars

While the price at Aldi isn’t bad, these kind of bars frequently go on sale at Publix and Kroger, and you can get coupons for the name brand versions that will frequently make them even cheaper than the store brand.

Canned biscuits

These are often on sale at other grocery stores for less than the Aldi price, and Fetch Rewards often gives extra points for buying them.

Hot dogs

Recently, hot dogs were on sale at Publix for less than $2! Stock up on them at that price and avoid buying them at Aldi.

Meat

Fresh meat is going to be cheaper at almost any other store when it is on sale. Even Walmart is often cheaper than Aldi! Wait for the sales and stock up. (The only exception would be if you manage to find some marked down items.)

Yogurt

These large containers of yogurt often go on sale. Try to get them for $3.50 or less.

Frozen pasta

This frequently goes on sale at Publix, and since it’s frozen, you can buy enough until the next sale!

Frozen pizza

I like to try to wait and buy frozen pizza when it’s less than $4, and sometimes you can even get it on sale for $3 at other stores.

Cereal

There are always coupons for cereal, and even though the store version at Aldi is cheaper than the name brand, you can get the name brand even cheaper if you use a coupon at another store.

Cereal is also a great example of never buying a name brand at Aldi.  This is the one area where you will see many familiar brands, Aldi doesn’t have a good price on any name brand items.  Stay far away from them and stick to Aldi brands for anything you are going to buy.

Frozen chicken

Apart from a sale, Aldi’s frozen chicken isn’t bad, but you can usually get a similarly sized item for about $5 at another store on sale.

Baby food pouches

While Aldi might seem to have a low price on these, on sale you are sure to get a cheaper price elsewhere. Stock up since they have a long expiration date!

Do you agree or disagree? Are there any items you never buy at Aldi that aren’t on this list? Let us know in the comments!
