I don’t know of anyone who wouldn’t mind making a little extra money on the side, especially if they can do it from home!

You may have seen ads or Instagram reels about making a million dollars in 8 months with some kind of scammy affiliate marketing, and while I wouldn’t mind a million dollars, if it seems too good to be true, it probably is. The best options to make money from home are opportunities that fit with your skills and that have a good return of money on the amount of time you put in. Your season of life will also determine what ways to make money from home are good options for you.

I’ve come up with my 10 favorite ways to make money from home, although there are certainly many more. I’d love to know if you’ve ever tried any of these!

10 Ways to Make Money from Home

Declutter and sell things you don’t need

Selling things you don’t need is a great way to declutter and also make a bit of cash. You can sell clothes, furniture, toys, games, and more! See my post on how to sell used stuff online.

Refinish furniture and sell it online

If you like thrifting and going to garage sales, finding furniture and refinishing it can be a really lucrative way to make money from home. Even if other people also know how to refinish it, the process takes time and some people just don’t feel like doing it. If you are mostly at home due to kids or other life circumstances, invest in a few simple tools and then start watching Facebook marketplace for cheap furniture deals.

Become a mystery shopper

You’ll want to make sure that you are working with a legit company, but if you are someone who is willing to be on the go a little bit but still wants something flexible, mystery shopping can be a great option. See this post about legit mystery shopping jobs.

Walk dogs, mow lawns, or house sit

Ask around in your neighborhood group to see if there is anyone who needs any of these services. Maybe someone will be out of town for a few weeks and needs someone to keep their grass mowed while they’re gone. House or pet sitting can be really great if it’s in your neighborhood, because you can still sleep at your own house. Walking dogs is a great option for making money from home because it also gives you some exercise!

Sell homemade items

There are lots of ways you can make money from things you make at home. If you are a crafter or a baker, you can sell baked goods to friends and family or make watercolor thank you notes or even printed Scripture on commission.

Use couponing mobile apps

These apps aren’t going to make you a ton of money, but you may be able to slowly stockpile some Amazon gift cards and use that cash to buy birthday or Christmas gifts! Here are a list of what I think are the top couponing apps.

Take online surveys

Two sites I’ve found that are legit are Branded Surveys and Inbox Dollars. You aren’t going to make thousands here, but if you’re not able to find something outside your home, this could net you a small amount of cash with very little work.

Write an ebook

If you have expertise about anything, consider writing an ebook! That may sound complicated, but with Amazon KDP, you can self publish your book as an ebook or even as a book that will be printed by Amazon for you. This doesn’t have to be an 1,000 page novel. It could be a book of recipes or even a mini book about a specific topic.

Babysit

If you are a stay-at-home mom with young kids, babysitting an additional child could be a great way to make money from home. You’ll need to make sure that the number of children you have in your home doesn’t require you to be a licensed child care provider, but usually if it’s just one child that is not yours, it won’t fall into that category. You can check out Urban Sitter to see the average amount babysitters get paid in your area, but if it’s something you’re going to do on a daily basis or once a week for a day, you might be better off charging the parent by the day or by the week for a flat rate.

Create and sell digital downloads

It costs almost no money to list items on Etsy, and this is a great passive form of income if you can build up your store. You can create digital products for free online and then sell them on Etsy. The customer prints them on their own, so there are no shipping costs for you. For some ideas of things to create, check out this post on 30 popular digital products on Etsy.

While you may not be able to make a full time income, there are lots of ways to make money from home. Here are my favorite, from ebooks to dog walking!
