Sometimes when we’re trying to find a family movie, we struggle to find one everyone will enjoy. While there are a lot of newer movies that are great, the best option we’ve found is to revisit movies we watched as kids and teens.

All of these movies are at least 20 years old, which will probably make you feel old, but we’ve found that these are movies that have held up over the years. It can also be a history lesson of sorts–you may have to explain landline phones and CD players to younger kids! Here are 20 older movies to introduce to your kids.

20 Older Movies to Introduce to Your Kids

Homeward Bound

Watch on Disney+
Rent on Amazon Prime

This one is a bit of a tearjerker, but kids will love the animals and wait with bated breath to see if they make it home.

School of Rock

Rent on Amazon Prime

When we pulled this up to watch with some teenagers, they were not excited, but by the end, they loved it.

Harry Potter & The Sorcerer’s Stone

Rent on Amazon Prime

Once you finish this one, if your kids like it, you can watch the next seven movies!

The Fellowship of the Ring

Watch with Amazon Prime

This one will eat up a good bit of time (and I recommend the extended edition!). If you have a lot of time, you can finish the series!

Jumanji

Rent on Amazon Prime

We recently watched this one with our kids, and they declared that we should watch it again every year. Robin Williams is hilarious.

Labyrinth

Watch with Hulu
Rent on Amazon Prime

This one isn’t for everyone. It’s a little weird and hasn’t aged very well, but it’s still extremely entertaining.

Honey, I Shrunk the Kids

Rent on Amazon Prime

This is one I have on our list to watch with our kids. I hope it’s as good as I remember!

The Sandlot

We have watched and rewatched this movie in our home. Even kids who don’t care about baseball will enjoy it.

This story of perseverance never gets old.

The Mighty Ducks

This is an extremely goofy movie, but kids will love it!

Spy Kids

This was one of my favorite movies growing up. Julie Andrews is wonderful.

Once again, Robin Williams is amazing in this movie.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

I will never forget how scared I was of the Childsnatcher when I watched this as a kid, but it didn’t keep me from watching it again and again!

Little Giants

Football fans or not, this movie about kids playing sports will appeal to the whole family.

Remember the Titans

Yet another classic football movie. High schoolers might enjoy this one.
