There are a lot of bad ways to use AI, but I like to think of tools like ChatGPT as a super-charged Google search. There are so many things you can ask it so that you don’t have to sift through half of the Internet looking for your answers. Of course, when it comes to health issues or anything that could cause harm to you or someone else, it’s best to consult a professional or do your own Google search to confirm ChatGPT’s results. But there are so many ways to use it to save time and make life easier! I’ve come up with 20 ways to use ChatGPT that you might not have thought of, from ways that I’ve used it to ways that my friends and family have shared.
20 Ways to Use ChatGPT You Might Not Have Thought Of

figuring out what haircut to get
I was wanting to try a new hairstyle but always have trouble figuring out what would look best. I uploaded a picture of myself and asked ChatGPT, specifying the minimum length I wanted it to be. While the pictures it came up with were not great, it gave me a phrase to use when I spoke to the hair stylist. I was able to use that phrase to search Google for some inspiration pictures.

a walking plan after an injury
A friend recently had foot surgery and her doctor had given her the go ahead after a few weeks to begin walking short distances. She told ChatGPT what the doctor said and it came up with a six-week walking plan with gradual increases. She said it worked out great!

meal ideas for date night
Even though I think a lot about food and meals, sometimes the well runs dry. ChatGPT isn’t great at coming up with recipes, but it will give meal ideas that you can then take to Google.

Bible theme search
A friend was recently doing a presentation on prayer in the Bible, and she wanted a list of every passage in the Bible that talked about prayer. ChatGPT whipped up the list in about 30 seconds!

skincare routines
I was wanting a simple skincare routine I could do in the morning and evening that wouldn’t make me have to buy a dozen products. ChatGPT helped me narrow it down to using 3 different products and I found them on Amazon!

piano chords
A friend of mine used to play classical piano but has started playing at her church. Church music is very different and her brain was rusty on chords. Whenever she encounters a new one, she asks ChatGPT (it is occasionally wrong, she says, but the thing about the piano is that it’s immediately obvious that it’s wrong!).

figuring out who owned a business
I randomly needed to know who owned a business in Tennessee in 2006 for something I was working on. ChatGPT couldn’t find the person, but it gave me a list of places to look—and I found it!

breaking down different types of health insurance plans
A friend got a new job and was trying to figure out which health insurance plan would work best for her. She dumped all the info into ChatGPT and it gave her a comparison so she could choose.

Google sheets formulas
One of my friends does a lot of work with spreadsheets, and she is a whiz for the most part, but when she finds something she doesn’t know how to do, ChatGPT is almost always able to help her with a formula.

finding missing pictures on my laptop
A few months ago I was trying to find some pictures that I knew had to be somewhere on my laptop. I take pictures on my phone but upload them to Dropbox so they are stored on my laptop and in the cloud. I thought they were gone forever, but I asked ChatGPT and it helped me search through a deeply nested file on the Dropbox server to find my pictures. I almost cried with relief.

tax deduction help
Disclaimer: Don’t trust ChatGPT to do your taxes. But, it can answer questions that can put you on the right path to getting the answer. I had a question while working on our taxes and asked ChatGPT. Once I had an answer, I confirmed with a tax expert.

transcribe audio files
One of our family members does a lot of recordings for her job and she uses the paid version of ChatGPT to transcribe them and analyze them.

changing the sound settings on my phone
No matter what I did, even if the volume was turned down, one of my apps was continuing to make noise. I asked ChatGPT and it helped me turn the annoying notifications off!

predicting car taxes in my state
We’re about to have to purchase a new car, so as we consider the price we want to take taxes into account. ChatGPT was able to take the predicted car info and give us an estimate.

what to do if your propane tank is leaking
This was a scary one! Recently I went outside and saw our propane tank giving off some kind of emission. I quickly moved it to the yard, away from the house, and asked ChatGPT because I truly wasn’t sure what to do. The answer was: CALL 911! I did so immediately.

the names of bathroom sink drain parts
We had an issue where the stopper part of our bathroom sink wasn’t working, and we realized a piece of the mechanism below it had rusted. However, we had no idea what to look for or ask for at the hardware store. We explained the part to ChatGPT, and it identified the part so we were able to order it online.

explaining shockwave therapy
A friend was being offered shockwave therapy for a foot issue, but she wanted to know what all it entailed beyond what her doctor told her.

interpret MRI report
When you have an MRI, there is someone who writes out what the MRI showed. But it’s written in very technical language, and it can be hard for a non-medical person to understand. If your doctor didn’t go over it as much as you wanted them to, ChatGPT is pretty good at explaining it in more detail.

other medical questions
Again, ChatGPT is NOT a doctor, so don’t treat it like one! But I have heard so many stories of people who used ChatGPT to figure out a diagnosis that their doctor later confirmed. For example, a friend was having arm pain and had seen two doctors. She explained to ChatGPT what the doctor said but then said it hadn’t solved the problem. It asked her a series of questions and caused her to believe it was coming from her neck and not her arms. She went back to the doctor and told them, and they ordered a nerve study that confirmed it!

questions to ask a doctor
This last tip also involves medical stuff! If you are seeing a new doctor or have a new issue, ChatGPT is great at coming up with what to say to the doctor and what to ask. Most doctors don’t have a lot of time to spend in the exam room, so if you can quickly and clearly articulate what you want to say, it might help things go better.
