Doesn’t it seem like fuel prices keep climbing? We do our best to have all of our apps and points ready to save at the pump. Here are my top five ways to best save on fuel consistently.
1. Wal-Mart+ Membership | Another perk of having a Wal-Mart Membership is saving on fuel. You’ll save 10% every single time, plus you get access to Sam’s Club’s pumps, too! I will die on the hill that Wal-Mart+ Memberships pay for themselves – the free shipping, delivery, streaming capabilities, returns from home, and more! Not to mention, you can get 10% off fuel at Murphy’s and Exxon, too! Grab your free 30-day trial today and try it out for yourself. I think you’ll find that the $98/year is well worth the investment.
2. Amazon Prime Membership | Save 20¢ per gallon every Friday through January 29, 2027. Fill up at bp, Amoco, and participating ampm and Thorntons locations— you also get 10¢ off every day with Prime. Check out the details here. Don’t have a Prime membership? This is another subscription that is totally worth having for us – delivery, streaming options, free GrubHub subscription, prescription savings, and unlimited photo storage (my favorite perk!). Get an Amazon Prime membership today.
3. Get the GasBuddy App | Download the GasBuddy app and locate the cheapest fuel in your area – you can event find local EV charging stations. They do have a savings program if you sign up for a card.
4. Your Local Grocery Store | My usual go-to is Harris Teeter because I save up my points and then fill my car up and get $.80-$1 off each gallon. Harris Teeter and Kroger both have decent fuel point programs. You can really rack up the points if you’re a loyal shopper.
5. Pick Your Days to Pump | According to fuel-tracking data, the cheapest days and times to fuel up in the Southeast are Sundays (early mornings). If you miss it on Sunday, early Monday mornings (South Carolina) or Tuesday mornings (Florida and Georgia) are the days to fill your tank. You can monitor fuel trends and tracking data on GasBuddy.
While it may seem like a decent amount of effort to only save a few cents at the pump, trust me, every visit to fill up your tank counts! What tips and tricks have you learned over the years that keep your fuel budget down?
