Protein is everywhere these days, isn’t it? I really had to laugh the first time I saw protein Pop-tarts. I like Pop-tarts as much as the next person, but if I’m looking for a good source of protein, that’s probably not going to be my main source. There is protein popcorn, protein candy, and even protein water! The truth is, we do need protein, and it’s an important macronutrient, but you’re better off looking for sources of protein that actually have a high amount of protein in one serving.

There is an easy way to figure out if a food really is “high protein.” Take a look at the nutrition information, such as on these Built Protein Bars.

The label says each bar has 17g of protein, and each bar is 150 calories. Take the number of grams of protein and put a 0 at the end—in this case, that makes 170. If that number is higher than the calories, then it’s a good source of protein! There are many bars that claim to be “protein” bars that have 10 or 12g of protein but are 200 calories or more. You’re better off just eating a bunch of slices of deli meat turkey!

Sam’s Club does have a lot of great options that meet this criteria of being high protein. Here are some of my favorites.
