Unfortunately, I’ve got some sad news for Food Lion and Bloom fans.  The company that owns both of them, Delhaize America, has decided to close 113 Food Lion stores as well as retire the Bloom banner.  Many Bloom stores and Bottom Dollar Food’s will be converted into Food Lion stores.  You will see this happen within the next 30 days according to their news release.

See if your store is on the list for Bloom Conversions or store closings and get the full details on the Food Lion and Bloom changes here.

(thanks to everyone who emailed and left Facebook notes)

    • Blumingrose32

dont shop there much but occassionally they do have some good sles i enjoyed getting, will still have one local store though, hate it for those that will be lookinbg for jobs in an already rough economy, where many all already searching for jobs,Walmart may need experienced cashiers though, who knows..

      • Blumingrose32

should have been have some good sales!!!

    • Elizabeth

Sooo sad to hear this!  There are 2 FL’s closer to me than any other stores and they are so convenient. I hate it also for their employees!

    • Mlgrazier

Food Lion is about 2 miles from my home so I do run there a lot for quick things, and deli meats…I sure hope mine isn’t one of them closing:)

      • Elizabeth

If you click on the Store Closing link Jenny posted you can see if your store is on the list.

    • Clarkiechick

I wish Publix would move north to nc and take their sorry butt’s over. lol

    • Mhhughes

Happy to see that none of our Food Lions are closing.  Thank you Jesus.

    • Ryanandwendy2005

My store is on the list, but I won’t miss them, I very rarely set foot in there.

    • Learn22read

      Wow!  I’m 1st.. :)

    • Donna

      Hate to see people losing
their jobs and lots of real estate sitting empty, but I must say that I
never shopped at Food Lion. We are losing 3 stores, but I was never impressed with their stores and

    • Rudydoescakes

      What about Harvey’s?

      • The press release didn’t address Harvey’s, so I’m not sure.

    • Lonestar9

My Food lion that is close to my house is closing. I use it fairly often because it’s so close, even if I don’ use a coupon. I hate to see stores close, it has a ripple effect with people with no jobs, less selection for consumers, and on on. So sad.

    • Gina

My store isn’t one closing, but I am just sad to think of all the people that will no longer have their jobs!

    • Linda

Darn, I get my newspapers there every Sunday (they always have plenty of them in stock).  I’m sad to see that my store is closing :(

    • Emma Lou E

Absolutely upset. It was the best of both to have the new (less than 3 years old!) Food Lion & Bi-Lo next to each other in Inman, SC. I sincerely hope management will help with the displaced employees of all the closed locations.

    • Shana

Oh No, No more SUPER DOUBLES… :(

    • tambry

I am sad because I buy my meat from them.  I can always count on good deals on chicken, beef, pork, etc.   I didn’t show there for other things because they didn’t double.

      • tambry

And it is less than .2 of a mile from my house.  Oh well.  At least we have Bi-Lo and Publix.

    • Kimberly

Well, mine isn’t closing but I can’t imagine how they are staying open. The few times I go in there I am usually one of only 3-4 people in the whole store. I think the fact that Harris Teeter and Lowe’s Foods make shopping so convenient and both double coupons while FL doesn’t has a lot to do with it…the prices are not that much lower to make buying there a better deal. Sorry for people losing their jobs though. Maybe FL should try a new business model.

      • Rae

Just what I was going to say – do not like the job loss, but the Gainesville store was dirty. More of a problem is that the single FL is in a very poor section of town, now their option for “groceries” is going to be convenience store junk food.

      • lgeorge

I was going to say the same thing. Mine isn’t closing, but I don’t really know why it isn’t. There’s hardly anyone in there the few times I go. But mine recently converted from a Bloom (that was a sad day), so maybe the verdict is still out on that one. But I hardly see good enough deals there to actually plan a trip even though I drive right by there every day. I feel bad for anyone losing their job right now. That just stinks. :*(

    • Tracey

Ours is closing in Conyers, GA.  That makes the 5 chain grocery store to close in that spot. Think they might as well just bulldoze that building.

      • Mmtinga

Guess that will be the kiss of death to the Dollar Tree in that shopping center.  I only hit FL when they had great sales since I live on the north side but enjoyed having the option of another store for meat purchases.

    • Kelseyk112

Such sad news….i love my Bloom…looks like it’s going to become a Food Lion

    • Ctcjsbag5

Oh no the Conyers, GA store is closing :(  I agree with Tracey….Kroger, Publix, Food Lion, etc. all within a few miles of each other!

    • Tsmith8966

I am SOOOO happy that they are leaving the ones here in the part of VA that I live in alone!

    • Vicki

Sorry that they are closing that many stores for the employees, but if they would double coupons then they could compete with HT, Lowes Foods and Bilo in my area. I was told that there prices were low enough without doing double coupons. They lost alot of my business when they changed our Bloom to FL.

    • Danielle T

I might cry… Bloom is literally attached to my apartment complex .. I can walk there.. and to think no more doubling of anything (and I will miss the super doubles more than anything) this is so sad! say it isn’t so!

    • Sabrinadawson

my food lion is closing and both near my moms house. I hate that they are closing but i would love it if they are going to mark their stuff down. I am buying a house tuesday, my sister has a 6 month old and her husband was laid off, my mom is a single parent and i would love to be able to help us all out by being able to stock up on everything.

    • Misstristyn

Oh no!  As if the economy weren’t bad enough, now hundreds and hundreds more folks are jobless.  I won’t really miss our Atlanta area Food Lions, but I do feel bad for the employees.

    • Cinweed2

4 closing here in St. Johns County, (St. Augustine), one less than a mile from me,. I will miss it, I could always run in there and quickly buy things because they were never that busy. But, I did not like shopping there, it was kinda dirty and prices were not good, unless on sale.

      • Anonymous

But I do like the new one in St Augustine!

    • Qponklink

Someone told me today that our FL was closing and they’re putting a Harvey’s there.

      • Qponklink

lol Yep! Found it on the list. The only one converting to a Harvey’s.

        • Lori

Have you heard if they will be doubling coupons in Lake City?

    • Thall561

We have 2 Blooms in our small town. I wish one would close and be replaced by Publix!!!!

    • Snowdogmom

I’m sorry for the people losing their jobs but in all honestly no great loss. I hadn’t shopped Food Lion since they were caught selling tainted meat many years ago. I gave Bloom a try but ours didn’t last long, they converted it to Food Lion. When they changed it to FL they made the Bloom store employees reapply for their jobs with no guarantees. That didn’t do anything to improve my opinion of the corporation running the chain. Now that converted store is closing. You reap what you sew.

    • H Powell413

I work at foodlion and I know the store I work at will be have a huge clearance and store closing sale starting the 18th. So hopefully there should be some great deals.

      • Curlylocs83

I’m sorry you will be losing your job :( Which foodlion do you work at and do you know if all will be starting their sale on the 18th?  A few years ago one closed near me and while I was excited to get tons of stuff really cheap I felt really guilty walking around in the store with excitement because I felt horrible for the employees.

        • H Powell413

I work at the one in Martinez, Ga. The store closing sale witll start tomorrow at 25% off. And I have been told we will still be accepting coupons!

    • Rach3lbu11man

Sorry for those losing jobs but I think if they would double coupons I would shop there more!!!  I used to shop there all the time…but when I started couponing I realized I could save more at HT and BiLo.

    • StaceyF

I won’t miss them. I didn’t get the deal today for buying all of their stuff, nothing off my total and no coupons after. What a waste of my time to go there today. They don’t double, nuff said.

    • :( I’m sad cause they have some good deals and their milk is cheapest its 2.59 which is almost .50 to $1 less than anywhere else :( humph and seriously they just opened a Food Lion near us a year ago and they’re closing, actually both of the ones near us are closing :/

      • Anonymous

        Are you in St Augustine?

    • Denise

One in my area is closing…I’m not bummed by that but its right night to the CVS I shop at so that will probably hurt them.  I hope the CVS doesn’t close.

    • restore

Jacksonville is heavily hit according to the list…I know a lot of people who are losing their jobs in about four weeks…

      • Anonymous

Florida in general is being hit majorly since they are leaving the state all together…

        • Kkeen44

According to our newspaper the food lion in Lake City is the only one in Florida not closing. It is being converted into a Harvey’s

          • Anonymous

Thats what I read as well on Food Lions site…

    • bev

I am amazed that they have stayed in business as long as they have . I did shop at bloom but since it converted I have been in fl twice and wasn’t impressed. I hope they take a hard look at their practices and restructure so that more employees do not lose their jobs. They are just not competitive with publix and bi-lo in my area and it would be great for everyone if they were.

    • Brittneysterner48

Thats a bummer, I’m sorry to hear people will be out of jobs but I actually asked my husband the other day if FL still gets as many customers bc they are not on the double coupon band wagon. He buys Monster energy drinks there and I use to shop there all the time until I started to coupon. Now I never go.

    • tigergirl

Our bloom converted a while ago too, and I shopped there ONCE: that was enough, it was awful :( Not only were the prices not good, the departments that used to be really nice in bloom (seafood, produce, bakery) were terrible. Bought crablegs for my daughter’s birthday and had the first bad crab in my life! But our now-FoodLion is not closing, which actually surprises me.

    • Dianiagay

Both mine are closing.  I HATE It that so many are losing jobs.  I hope I can get some good markdown prices.  Anyone know if these stores will take coupons up to the close date?

    • Lana

I’ve often wondered how they manage to stay open with so little business but they cannot compete with double coupons at every other store in town.  Sad that all those people who have worked at my store since it opened will lose their jobs.

    • Msmyhawj

I hate food lion. Their stuff is Always so expensive. I wish we would have more stores in Charlotte that double coupons. I would like to see a Kroger store.

      • Snowdogmom

Are you talking about Charlotte NC? Harris Teeter, Bi-Lo, Lowes Food all double. We seem to have more choice than most. For all you PUBLIX fans there are 2 stores coming to just over the border from Charlotte NC. Gold Hill Rd & Pleasant Rd called Publix On Gold Hill in Tega Cay SC sign says late 2012 and they are clearing the land now, and the other will be located on  Hwy 521 and Doby’s Bridge Rd called Cross Creek in Indian Land, SC not sure of date for this one.

        • Guest

Yeah seriously Charlotte is one of the BEST areas in the country for couponing, we have a lot more choices in doubling stores than a lot of other places.  Really nothing to complain about here in Charlotte.

    • Delektolove

:o( im sad the one in my town doubles coupons to .60 and price matches UGH  and I really feel bad for the employess.. I have gotten really use to seeing their faces when I coupon

    • Hartmanmel35

I live in the hometown of Food Lion and there’s like one on every block here!  I can’t stand FL and I’m so glad that the HT in our town has survived and prospered despite their heavy presence.  I’ve tried to convert some of my friends and family to be HT shoppers but they’re so loyal to the hometown store which is twice as expensive and doesn’t double coupons.  I understand loyalty but I have to shop at the cheapest and that’s not FL.  Sorry for all the people losing jobs though!!!!

    • MomOf4

Our Bloom doubles every day and does super doubles once a month.  Last summer, they did super doubles once a week for the summer.  I’ll miss Bloom!

      • Monica

I wonder if you live in the VA area. Our Bloom did that also. I will miss Bloom, never really cared for Food Lion.

    • Daisy

What is crazy is that they are closing my Food Lion Store in Conyers, GA which has been open less than 2 years. I never shopped there though, I’m a Publix girl.

      • Rsteadman4972

One of our 4 closings here in Savnnah, GA has only been open about 9 months.

    • Mdvgarrett

I was really surprised that find out that Food Lion doesn’t double coupons and Harvey’s & Bloom does when they’re all operated by the same parent company. Our FL converted to Harvey’s several years ago and at first I didn’t like it but since I’ve started to coupon, I’ve come around to it. Lucky for me the FL near my parents in Thomasville, NC is still staying open, but for my inlaws in Smithfield, VA…their Bloom is converting BACK into a FL which is what was there when they first moved there 10 yrs ago. CRAZY!

      • Robert

Yeah, I’m in Smithfield. No good.

    • Nicolemann86

Dang my food lion is closing. I must admit I didn’t shop there very much but they did have good meat sales:( esp this week 50% off chicken breast… oh well they were right in the middle of ingles and bilo where i live and hardly ever were there cars there. I just hate all those ppl will be out of a job :(

    • guest

Bummer! Was hoping the one near me would close and a better grocery store go in that actually doubles coupons!

    • Melissa

First they will stop getting deliveries so the selection will go down hill fast.  They start marking down a little at a time.  And yes, the last FL closing we had in Columbia they took coupons til the end.  We still have some stuff from that deal bonanza at 60% off.  But be prepared for long lines to check out and it just gets nasty at the end.

    • Jjonlineoffers

I think Food Lion stores here still have the stigma of being known as dirty and low on inventory.  That has changed over the past few years (they truly made an effort) but the mental impression still stayed.  They are closing one in Cary, but there is an Aldi and a HT right there, so I don’t think they are going to be terribly missed.  If they doubled coupons (even up to $.50) or even stacked them, I might shop there more.  Their prices are lower on some things, but I am not too keen on the Food Lion brand, so it is just too much of a bother to shop there.

    • Brandy

DANG! There is a Food Lion a few miles from our house that is closing. Although I don’t shop there for most things. I have found their meat/chicken prices (especially the clearance prices!) are THE best around. Also, their milk is cheaper than most places, even Walmart. I’m really bummed!

    • Anonymous

The one closest to me is actually staying open but the other one is closing. I rarely shop there but it is nice to have the option if there’s a good deal.

    • Bob

To be honest with you, I shopped Food Lion for years until they got greedy over any coupon I used. I hated to shop in that store because everyone seemed so hateful, and I talked to the store manager about how I was being treated and told him I’d never shop there again.. It’s not closing here in Northwest Ga. because it’s the only grocery store in our town besides Ingles. I will not miss Food-Lion because I stopped going there over a year ago.

    • Anonymous

Okay the Food Lion in St Augustine (the new one by Walgreen’s across from the Shore’s) told me tonight that they will start marking things down by 25% on Monday.  They also said that they will continue to accept coupons up to the end.  Once stock is gone it is gone!!

    • Kerrie

Cant believe our Food Lion will be closing! Didnt see that coming. They were the only store around who would ever double up to .60. On the other hand, I hardle went in there cause they were kind of high. But always had REALLY cheap milk!!

    • Britt

In our local news they said it was 126 stores.  It’s majorly affecting the Chattanooga area bc all of ours are closing.  Which is terrible for me bc they are the only store in the area that sells Marcal Small Step items.  :(  I am very sad…

      • Anonymous

THey are completely gone from Florida all together!

        • Ranchdreshin

The one on Blanding Blvd in Orange Park is staying open

      • Teedlesp73

Ringold Road Food Lion in East Ridge is the only one staying open in the Chattanooga TN  Area.

    • CC

I have a FL one mile from me, and a Bottom Dollar (that is now being converted into a FL(even thought it was a FL before it was a Bottom Dollar)) going a mile in the other direction. Seems like a waste to have the same stores within 2 miles of each other, when other cities are losing the stores all together.

    • Anonymous

Does anyone know if you can stack a manufacturers coupon with a coupon from the Food Lion website that  you load onto  your MVP card?

      • Anonymous

        Other people have said yes.

        • Anonymous

I called 2 of the closest Food lion’s and neither one knew anything about coupons on the Food Lion site?

    • CYR

NOOOO!  my food lion that my publix accepts as competitor is closing!!!
There are 2 stores in that town so I will still get to shop at FL, but the one of the two that the publix accepts as competitor is closing… ugh!

    • Mrs. D

I’m glad the one less than 1/8 mile from my home isn’t closing. It’ s my back up store when I need something in a pinch. I would shop there more often if they would double coupons. Unfortunately, Lowe’s and Harris Teeter double and I give them my business.

    • Mommy124

I just saw the one by my house is closing and I’m a little disappointed.  Food Lion doubled coupons up to 60 cents and they matched competitors prices.  I didn’t like that they only took one like printed coupon per product.  Does anyone know if they will be having going out of business sales or if they will be shifted their products to another store staying open?

      • Mommy124

This is unfortunately a tragedy that is reflective of our economy today.  I just called my Food Lion and she stated they were going to have discounts starting next week with 25% off for the week, then 50% off, then 75% off.  Please don’t think I’m inconsiderate as others are loosing their jobs and I’m very sympathetic towards that considering my husband was unemployed for 11 months.  My best to all the employees of the affected stores.

      • couponqueenieinva

I’d be curious to know this too. One of my Blooms is converting to FL and there is another store that is closing. I plan to call the store on Monday to see what they plan to do with their inventory. The press release said they will close/convert within 30 days.

    • I knew something was going on when they stopped selling liquor last week (license was not renewed).  Then the clerk mentioned the “Western Union” machine license was not renewed as well.  Just today she told me how “cold and callous” they were yesterday with the bad news.  * sigh *

    • couponqueenieinva

What a shame. They were always a little pricey, but my store had some great prices on the closeout clearance items…many of them I got for little to nothing on the SD specials. Plus I liked stacking the e coupons and the paper coupons. Hope FL will do this as well….

    • Jules

The 2 Food Lions near me are not closing, but it wouldn’t bother me if they did since they don’t double coupons. And their prices on most stuff is not that much cheaper than the Weis I shop at, which does double coupons. Feel bad for the people losing their jobs though :(

    • Kathryn

they will have a going out of business sale but they will not have a sales paper during this time and will not take coupons. husband is a manager at food lion

      • Mommyshortstuff

I hope your husband’s store isn’t one that is closing=(

      • Amw4999

I was just at my local food lion in Martinez, Ga, and the manager told me that they will be accepting coupons. I guess it just varies by store.

      • Anonymous

Food Lion in St Augustine Fl said they are still taking coupons.

    • Tissie

Will Find out about the coupons, knowing people  helps.  Sad about the Closings, over 4000 people will lose jobs.  They were testing doubling coupons in a few markets, afraid it came too late.  But not all stores are closing so we may just see a bigger and brighter Food Lion in the future, who knows.  Or at least I hope so!

    • Tissie

The closing sale will go for 3-4 weeks

    • Carla

Food Lion on 176 in Inman, SC will be one that is closing.  Rumor has it that there closing sale will be starting this coming Wednesday the 18th.  Everything in the store will be sold at 25% off.  Do not know if this store will be taking coupons.  And do not know if this is true but wanted to post anyway.  Just to give you all a heads up.

    • I don’t care for Food Lion- they don’t double coupons and the sales deals just aren’t very good.  I occasionally went to the Bloom in Greer, SC when they had the Super Double Coupons.  However I have not seen that in a long time.

    • Tawankalee

Our Foodlion in Geer,  SC took over Bloom’s last year. FL has some good sales, but they don’t give senior discounts and don’t double coupons. I expected them to close for those two reasons alone.  Too much competition nearby. BiLo and Publix both double coupons and offer senior discount on Wedndays.

    • Iva @ This Side of Perfect

Food Lion in Ware County is closing down. I suspect they will have massive discounts on their product in hopes of getting rid of stock. I’ve already seen signs going up on some products in the store. Does anyone know if they are touching the Harvey stores? Harveys and Kroger are the only stores we have. A Piggly Wiggly opened up about 10 minutes down the street from me. I might venture into their store to see what they have to offer.

    • Josh1_9

I am an employee of Food Lion. I just want to say that even though I am sad that the store that I work at is closing, please don’t tell the employees, we know that you are sad to see us go. Also, don’t ask us what we are going to do after the store closes. Many of us do no know. It will mos likely be  look for another job and file for unemployment. Thanks for your support.

      • Josh1_9

I forgot to tell you that most of the stores that are closing will no longer take coupons after January 16.

    • Guest

Martinez, Ga Food Lion closing sale starts tomorrow, everything except alcohol and tobacco will be 25% off. This does not include vendor products, which some of them are Coke, Pepsi, Nabisco, magazine and balloons, those are some of them, not sure of all of them. You can still use your coupons.

      • Elizabeth

Our FL is closing also but they had signs up saying that they are no longer accepting coupons. The store was practically deserted. With no sales/specials and no coupons, the 25% clearance is generally still more expensive than Publix….  Don’t get me wrong – I hate to see them close!

    • Angelsam

The food lion in newnan always doubled coupons up to .60. Im so sad to see them go. You could not beat their meat prices anywhere. Also my husband was an employee there and the hardship on our family is going to be rough. Praying for all the people who lost their jobs overnight!

      • Elizabeth

        So sorry for your family!

    • Tissie

Regardless of their coupon policy it is sad to know so many are losing a job. I wish you all the best of luck.

    • Crap.  They’re closing my Food Lion.  There goes my milk savings.

    • Shannon

I am not sure if anyone has posted this as comments were added since I read this a few days ago. Some one did Mention the Food Lion (which had the BLOOM name on it untill a few months or so ago) in Greer off  Wade Hampton. They are STAYING OPEN. I just came back from there.

    • Neelyeypotts

The Food Lion in Tega Cay is closing. . Everything is 50% off right now and will be 75% off next week.  This store has been here for a long time, so I am sad to see it go!

    • Shotgungoldsmith

WWhen does 75% off start? Anyone know? Thanks

    • Mbigby

I heard today that the Food Lion in Conyers on GA 20 is closing in a week or two.

    • We have a lovely new store.  Part Bloom/part FL.

    • Sad

Funny I was looking for it in Conyers on Sunday, I was like maybe I was in the wrong place because it only been open around a year .. So wow. Sad. Im a Publix girl to. I should’ve patronized the underdog because competition is healthy. Especially in this economy.
