Times are tough and many people are facing financial difficulties. If you are 50+ and currently unemployed, AARP is offering a Free 1 year membership + a Free spouse card.  This can be either for new members or an extension on your current membership.

While it won’t help you put food on the table (that’s what coupons are for!) it does give you access to other special discounts on things like hotels, dining and even cell phone plans.

AARP also has a page for job hunting to help people get back on their feet.

True that AARP will not help with the food, however, several times this year there has been a Walgreens / AARP deal of $5 RR when you purchase certain items. My membership has paid for itself with a profit. HTH

Thanks, our is just expiring.  The info they provide in the magazine is very much appreciated.  I agree with Vanhook2- it pays for itself & I think it is a way to unite all of us ” older” Americans

Thanks, Jenny, for posting a diverse group of deals. The membership card will come in handy when I return to Walgreens shopping. It’s been a nice few weeks of not stressing over rolling those RRs!

thanks so much for this info.  I just turned 50 this year and wanted to join, but money is tight since I have no job

Since I am already a member, I called AARP to confirm the extension. The CS could not find the application and could not even find the offer on the AARP site. I have emailed this info and website address to the member dept for confirmation that this is a legitimate site. Will advise you when I find out for sure.
