Frugal Date Friday - Southern Savers

This next Frugal Date Friday idea is one of our family’s favorite things to do – Geocaching!

It’s like a real-world treasure hunt and you can either play with the whole family, or just use it as an adventure for a date.

You enter your city or zip code and navigate to the GPS coordinates to find the “treasure.”  You can enter the coordinates into your  GPS device.  We love to go geocaching when we’re in a new city and looking for something to do.  It helps us explore the city with the goal of finding the geocaches (containers).

To learn more about it, visit the geocaching website.

My favorite form of childcare is weeks with family friends to watch the kids.  We’ll go out this week while they watch our kids, and we’ll watch they’re kids next week.  Or, you can take your kids along on this adventure – they’ll love it.

What are your frugal date ideas?

    • Shana

I love Geocaching. There is a large community and in several areas they even have meetings and get togethers as well as Geocaching Events. It is a great way to learn about your community. My husband and I started doing this almost 3 years ago and we’ll never regret it. We’ve made some wonderful friends and though he’d lived in our town for his whole life, and I’d been there for 14 years, we still found places while geocaching we would not have otherwise known about. Great family activity and a great way to get off the couch. :)

I love geocaching. I haven’t been as active as I used to be, but am hoping to get back into it this next week when I go on vacation!

    • I love geocaching but have gotten discouraged b/c the last few times I couldn’t even find the cache :(

    • My husband and I used to geocache all the time while we were dating. There’s a smart phone app that links up to the geocaching website and has a really user friendly GPS interface. I think it costs around $10.00. Such a fun, cheap date!
