tanga magazinesFather’s Day is coming up (I know Mother’s Day is too, but today it’s all about dads) and  I always have a hard time figuring out what gifts to give my dad…

This year, we’ve teamed up with Tanga to give everyone a few options.  Magazine subscriptions are a great gift option because it’s not just a one-time thing, he gets to think of you every month for a year!  The tricky part with magazines is that they take a little while to get your first issue, so that explains why we need to think of Dad now!

Tanga is offering a great deal on the following dad-worthy magazine subscriptions for your dad, husband, brother, or friend.

 The Magazine Discounts:

Golfweek:  1 year for $3.99 (9¢ an issue).
Popular Science:  1 year for $3.99 (34¢ an issue) for up to 3 years.
Motor Trend
:  1 year for $3.99 (34¢ an issue) for up to 4 years.

Use the code SOUTHERNSAVERS at checkout on all of the deals above to redeem the discount.  These deals are available all week.

The Giveaway:

Tanga is giving away a Char-Broil 36,000 BTU 3-Burner Gas Grill, with Side Burner to one Southern Savers reader.  The big question will be, do you give it to your dad or keep it for yourself??

    • I always try to get my husband 3 different types of gifts each holiday. The first thing is something useful like a new tool he needs for an upcoming project,
Then I always get him one thing from me that’s straight from the heart.Usually they kinda match up with my personality. A few years back I made him a small scrapbook. I’ve even sent him on a scavenger hunt before to collect little gifts around town. That was a blast!
Then the kids always have their own gift for daddy all their own (usually a craft project). Last year me and my 5 year old daughter made him a t-shirt that said, “Worlds best dad”! Then my daughter picked out her color and put her hand prints on it and left room for her unborn baby brother to put his foot prints once he was born:) It turned out great! He wears it all the time. We had a blast making it together for him and we saved a litte money too, which is always a plus around our house:)

    • Richable

Every year my dad would say, “All I want for Father’s day is for you children to be happy.” And than he’d add, “Although breakfast at Cracker Barrel would be nice.” Sadly, my dad died of cancer three years ago. My dad don’t grill and he always says not to get him anything, just go to church, so I do, My husband on the other hand grills 4-5 times a week and he has wore his old grill out, so this one sure would be a nice present to give him on Fathers Day.

    • katiecravey

I give my dad a card and give him the most valuable gift… the gift of time. I try to spend a day or afternoon with him doing whatever he wants. Special days like Father’s day are about honoring the dad’s wishes as to what they want.

    • My dad always says he doesn’t need or want anything (which is probably true, but still..) so we always made him homemade crafts and cards as kids. My dad has worked had his entire life and sacrificed so much for our family. It’s hard to find a gift that shows the amount of appreciation and love I have for him. And now my husband is exemplifying the same attitude as my dad did to me and our little girl. This will be my husbands second fathers day and I have no idea what to get him. For my dad I usually give him a tie or a gift card along with a card. All he wants is for us to spend time with him so I try to spend the day with him as well. Normally my Dad and I go for a week long Beach trip for Seashell hunting, but my dad suffered a Stroke this year, and is not picking his feet up enough to walk on sand, so any entertainment at home for him right now, would be great for him.

    • Dolly2661

Last year, my husband asked for a “#1 Dad” mug. We went to the dollar store and bought a plain mug. My then 2-year old decorated it for him and presented it to him on Father’s Day morning. My husband works so much and so hard, it was touching that was the only thing he asked for. He is the grill master and has been bugging me to get a new grill now for three years. i have been holding off since I took a big pay cut to spend more time with my girls. A grill for him would be a dream come true!

    • Stepharnold20

My dad and I are so close and he’s not a spend-a-lot-on-gifts-kind-of guy so I usually get crafty and make him something personal. Two years ago for Father’s Day I had a photo from my childhood framed for my dad. The photo was of him holding me in his arms (at age 3 or 4) while I kissed his cheek with my arms wrapped tightly around his neck. I hand wrote on the photo in calligraphy “I love you now like I loved you then.” We were in the heat of wedding planning last year on Father’s Day so I gave him a t-shirt and a rubber bracelet that read “I am Second” and I wrote him a letter reminding him and thanking him for all the ways he has put myself, my sister, my mom/his wife, and his other family and friends in front of himself on all different levels. He always puts our needs first before his own. He definitely deserves this grill.

    • Jess

Another thing that I’ve tried to make a tradition it to take my parents for dinner on special occasions, now that I’m getting older and don’t see them as often, I really enjoy being able to spend some one on one time with them, and pay them back in a small way for everything they have done for me my entire life.

My dad is 73 and still works every day..can’t afford to retire.  I usually give him tools that he can work with (drills, tool sets, spotlights, ladders, etc).  I’m just thankful that I still get to spend father’s day with him after all these years!

    • Mlw1ofakind

I always get my dad a card and let him know I love him.  Sometimes I can talk him into coming over and I will cook whatever he wants for supper.  I let my kids pick out cards and sometimes they make something special for him.  My dad don’t grill but my husband does.  He has always wanted one of those big grills so it would be perfect for him.  I’ll give it to him and tell  him he has to grill a steak for my dad!  :)

    • Donnaleegriffin

Home Depot or Lowes gift card is all Dad ever wants!

    • DSmith2872

My dad always liked Kohl’s gift cards (he was never very handy) This will be my first father’s day as a dad so we’ll see what I get, though I am blessed enough already.

My dad passed away 14 years ago, but he taught all of his kids how to grill. What a pleasure it would be to put some of that knowledge to work. Everyone in my family would love that GRILL!

    • Cindy

My dad passed away in 1989, so while I would keep the grill, I would dedicate the grill to a man who loved to grill on just about any kind of grill, even a campfire!

      • Cindy

But I usually help the kids pick out something my husband needs, like a tool or clothes. He’s a tough one to buy for. The grill, however, would be epic for Father’s Day.

My dad lives very far away so usually I just talk to him on the phone.

    • JenO

I like to work with my dad on a home project.  He works in construction and always has an idea about how to fix my house!

This is the first year that my husband will be celebrating Father’s Day.  I think we’d keep the grill for ourselves and cook my dad a burger! :)

    • Julie

My husband would LOVE that grill! Usually though, we don’t do anything store bought at all. For Father’s day, we make it into a special weekend long event with special menus, chosen by Dad, and at least one meal cooked by each of our sons and a special dinner cooked by me. Dad is waited on hand and foot and is excused from his usual weekend chores! We started this tradition years ago as money just always seemed to be tight. We do this for Mothers day and birthdays as well. Our sons are teenagers now, but they still very much look forward to these weekends.

      • Julie

My dad passed away when I was just a little girl so my Mom has always played both parts. She has lived with usbfor the last ten years . On these weekends, regardless of whose it is, Mom gets the same royal treatment!

    • Krystal

    • Tankervet

My dads birthday and Father’s Day falls on or around Father’s Day every year. So he only gets one gift most of the time, but you never hear him complain. That grill would make up for some of those years.
