Looking for a quick and easy keto-friendly option for dinner this week? I shared for weeks on our Keto Meal Plans that we were loving stir-fry cabbage, but it took me a bit to sit down and type it up.

This quickly became one of our favorites.  It’s a routine for us to have Chinese for dinner every Sunday night after we put the kids in bed.  The downside is that finding keto friendly Chinese recipes is very hard!  This fit the bill perfectly and has way more flavor than any of our frozen skillet meals we were normally eating.

Low in carbs but high in flavor, this keto stir fry is a great frugal option that I think your family will love, too!

This recipe is based on a version we found on the Diet Doctor.  Adapted over the weeks as we kept making it and put into measurements that all of us in the non-metric world use.

Keto Stir-Fry Cabbage Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 head green cabbage, shredded
  • 5 oz. butter
  • 2 lb ground beef
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
  • 2 tbsp white wine vinegar
  • 3 garlic cloves
  • 1 tsp chili flakes
  • 2 tbsp fresh ginger, grated
  • 3 scallions, in slices
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp wasabi paste or powder

Directions

  1. Melt 3 oz. butter in a large pan on medium-high heat and saute the cabbage until it starts to soften. Don't let it get brown!
  2. Add spices and vinegar. Keep stirring the cabbage for a few more minutes. Remove the cabbage from the pan and put it in a bowl.
  3. Melt the rest of the butter in the same frying pan. Add garlic, chili flakes and ginger and sauté for a few minutes.
  4. Add ground meat and brown until the meat is cooked. Lower the heat to medium-low.
  5. Add scallions and cabbage to the meat and stir. Add salt and pepper to taste. Top with the sesame oil before serving.
  6. Add a small amount of wasabi paste to the mayonnaise until the taste is just right. Serve the stir-fry warm with a dollop of wasabi mayonnaise.

If you have a smaller family than ours, you could cut the recipe in half, but this is great as leftovers and is so delicious you’ll love having extra in the fridge for lunches.

My husband really likes kick, so he sometimes doubles the ginger. Keep in mind that ginger does have some carbs in it, so don’t get too heavy-handed, but feel free to add more if you like spicy foods.

The wasabi mayo topping is optional, but does add to the flavor. It’s not as spicy as you might think!

Note: We have made this with leftover steak and chicken. Both are great and it was a perfect way to reuse leftovers.
