With all the couponing going on in our house, spices are the one area I’ve found that can be hard to save on and hard to get a good quality spice.  Believe me, not all brands are the same, and with spices you can truly “get what you paid for”. I was asked a few weeks ago to do a review of My Spice Sage, an online spice company, with our love for cooking I jumped at the chance.

With store bought cheaper spices, they aren’t bad really.  It’s more that they can have preservatives in them and can be old (losing flavor and color).  A flavorless spice is basically a useless spice.  Honestly most are only good for 6-12 months max.  In typing that I’m now thinking of my spice cabinet and I’m pretty sure I have things from before I was married ten years ago…  maybe that should tell you why I was so excited to review new spices!!

My Spice Sage offers gourmet individual spices and blended spices at wholesale prices.  When I say wholesale prices, I mean it.  Right now you get free shipping on any $10 order and a free 1 oz sample with any order!

Here’s some price comparison’s:

McCormick Gourmet Cumin (preservative free), 1 oz, $5.79
My Spice Sage Cumin, 1 oz, $2.75

Morton & Bassett Paprika (preservative & msg free), 2 oz, $6.79
My Spice Sage Hungarian Paprika, 4 oz, $5.25

Seriously that’s huge savings!  To get top quality spices for half the price (and actually even cheaper than the cheap store brands) is awesome!

If you need to get a gift for someone who appreciates a good cookout, they have just the thing!  My Spice Age has a “Grilling Gems Gift Set” which includes:

Applewood Smoked Sea Salt
Barbeque Seasoning
Blackening Seasoning
Fried Chicken Seasoning
Garlic Pepper Rub
Herbs De Provence
Jamaican Jerk Seasoning
Lamb Rub
Lemon Pepper Seasoning
Rib Rub

Now, if you can’t find a spice in that list that strikes your fancy, I just don’t know how else to help you.  It’s making my mouth water just thinking about it!  The entire set is 40 ounces of spices for $36.75.  Less than $1 an oz!

The Applewood Smoked Sea Salt makes plain chicken breast taste and smell amazing!  Saute it in a pan or grill it, you’ve turned a moment of not knowing what to cook into a fancy dinner with one spice.

My Spice Sage offers over 500 spices (like 7 different types of paprika alone).  This saves me time from running all over town to grab random Indian spices for one dish.  As long as you can plan 3-4 days out on menus your spices will arrive in time for the meal.

If you’re still a little iffy, it doesn’t hurt to try the company out.  They’re so convinced that you’ll love what they have to offer that they have a 100% Satisfaction Guarantee.  You’ll not only get a full refund, but they’ll pay for return shipping – no questions asked.

Sometimes our family likes to make our own spice blends.  One that I love in the summer time is Montreal Steak Seasoning:

Recipe
2 Tbsp Paprika
2 Tbsp Crushed Black Pepper
1 Tbsp Granulated Garlic
1 Tbsp Granulated Onion
1 Tbsp Crushed Coriander
1 Tbsp Dill
1 Tbsp Crushed Red Pepper flakes

If you want some more spice blend ideas, I wrote an entire homemade spice and seasonings post a couple of months ago that can help inspire your kitchen.
