It’s amazing how many items we already have around the house that can double as a beauty product. Beauty products can be pricey but here are some tips and tricks to save money and use items you might already have at home.

1. Cut makeup wipes in half
I don’t usually wear a lot of makeup and if you’re like me, a whole makeup wipe is generally not needed to remove my makeup. Grab a pair of scissors and cut the wipes in half (or even quarters) to extend the life of your wipes!

2. Use Witch Hazel as a Toner
Witch Hazel contains tannins which naturally offer astringent and anti-inflammatory properties. Cleanse you face and then apply a few drops of Witch Hazel to a cotton ball and rub on the face to remove oil build up, tighten pores, etc. You can get a 16 oz. bottle for around $2.49.

3. Make a facial scrub out of sugar and olive oil
For a radiant, oil free complexion, an exfoliating scrub can help! Grab a medium sized container or jar and combine sugar or brown sugar (smaller grains are better for sensitive skin) and olive (cold press Extra Virgin Olive Oil) works well. Mix to a paste-like consistency. Apply to your skin, rinse off, apply tonor and then moisturizer.

4. Make a Baking Soda Blackhead Mask
Mix a teaspoon of water and teaspoon of baking soda together. Drape a warm washcloth over your face (or area where you have a blackhead) to open your pores. Apply the paste to the blackhead, gently massaging it in then let it sit. Rinse it off with water and apply a tonor.

5. Add baking soda to your toothpaste to give a whitening effect
You can add a small amount to some water to form a paste and brush or if you prefer the toothpaste taste, you can add a small amount to your brush. Use circular motions to rub against your teeth, but don’t brush too hard. Don’t do this too often, because it can be damaging if overdone.

6. Use cucumber to sooth puffy eyes
This is another simple one, but you might even have cucumbers in your garden this spring! Cut up cold cucumbers and lay on your eyes to provide relief for dry, puffy and tired looking eyes. If you don’t have cucumbers, you can wet green tea bags, put them in the fridge then place on your eyes for a similar effect!

7. Sea Salt Hair Detox
If you’re hair is feeling dull, add a small amount of sea salt to your shampoo to help with residue build up.

8. Save your coffee grounds to make an exfoliating mask
Combine 4 tbls. of oil of your choice (olive and coconut work well) to 6 tbls of finally ground coffee grounds, Combine and keep in an airtight container at room temp or the refrigerator. Rub into your skin on face or body for a natural exfoliator.
