Walmart has announced that they are making yet another change to Savings Catcher that for many folks will be a deal breaker.
Starting October 29th the only way to use Savings Catcher will be if you sign up and use Walmart Pay at the register. Due to this change, the ability to scan paper receipts within the app or submit via desktop will be discontinued.
What Walmart Pay Means For Couponers
You will no longer get a paper receipt when you check out. Which means you won’t be able to submit any receipts to cash back mobile apps without breaking their policies. All of your receipts will be saved in the Walmart App. You can print them out when you get home, and possibly get money back from Ibotta when you scan the printed QR code at the bottom of the receipt… however it is currently Ibotta’s policy to only accept the actual in-store receipt. I have no doubt that some of the apps will create a work around, I just don’t expect it to be live before this rolls out.
Walmart Pay is currently not an option for Walmart Grocery Pick up. Unless they change this, you will no longer be able to get anything back with Savings Catcher on Grocery Pick Up orders.
On a Personal Note:
In case you are curious, I’ve not really been a fan of Savings Catcher for years… it already doesn’t catch about 60% off the sales around town by not matching prices for produce, meat, instant savings promotions (think any Kroger Mega event item), drugstore rewards, and more.
Why the Change?
Most agree that this is all in an effort to reduce card processing fees and to move to more self pay registers for Walmart. You could also say they will save on register paper…
How Savings Catcher Will Work
Rather than scanning paper receipts using the Savings Catcher scanner after paying, you’ll simply create an eReceipt using the Walmart Pay scanner when paying. Here’s how:
- Enroll in Walmart Pay
- Use Walmart Pay at checkout to create an eReceipt for submission.
This can be done by:
Opening Walmart Pay and selecting which credit, debit, or gift card you’d like to use.
Using Walmart Pay to scan the QR code at the register to generate your eReceipt. - Tap “Submit Receipt” directly from your Walmart Pay confirmation page or from your Savings Catcher dashboard on the Walmart app.
