We have a dog that has learned the joy of running away. There are lots of friends at the neighbors house (about half a mile away), plus there is a river to go jump in and many more places to explore. The downside is figuring out where he is so you can get him back!
After the first couple of time of tracking him down by calling all the neighbors, my husband decided to get a Whistle 3 Pet Tracker. It’s a small GPS locator that stays on the dogs collar, and alerts you every time the dog leaves the home area (that you set). Now if Major goes for a jaunt we get a text message that says “Hi it’s Major. I’ve left the home area.”
We can then open up the app and see exactly where he is on the map!

A few specs on the tracker that are important. They say the battery has a 10 day charge, we found it to be more around 7 days, but that is still plenty long. We try to get in a habit of charging it every Saturday night. It charges fully during the night and is ready for the next day. The tracker is also water proof and shock resistant. We live near a river and in the summer the dogs tend to wander down for a swim, the tracker handles that beautifully (it even tracks their swim time for us).
